The Cygnet PV - Wren Mornstern Closed

It had been an interesting week and Victor needed some time to himself, to think and reflect, recap on all the mistakes made, a moment to pick up on all those little hints he picked up on that might not have been hints at all. The Dorm was too crowded, too many boys and girls running around like mice making too much noise. The Lake was nice, but it was far too cold for any length of time outdoors, the Library, the good 'old faithful' of the self-reflective individual seemed to be the only viable option.

He pressed on through the forest of bookshelves and the stacks of parchment before reaching a spot on the second floor. It wasn't his usual spot, but it was quiet and he was alone. Except for the nagging thoughts in the back of his head, he couldn't get her out of his mind. There was something that demanded resolution and he needed a chance to think about it in some detail. The whole event replayed itself in his minds eye for the millionth time as he sat down at a table and unpacked his bag. The mass of hair he saw from his vantage point, the fall from the tree, him braiding her hair. It was all deeply unusual, his behaviour, her willingness, how he felt at the time. He could still recall the feeling, but it was distant now, a memory, faded and dull.

Nothing about how he had acted made sense, his shyness evaporated and he had acted on impulse, which impulse he did not know, only that whatever he did was so uncharacteristic for himself that he almost felt as though he was a passenger in his own body. But it was him, not someone else or some unseen force, he had spoken the words, he had braided her hair. That it went well was surprising but nothing more.

He grumbled to himself, maybe he hit his head a little harder than he thought, or maybe he was discovering a part of himself that was already there and he just didn't want to know about. Whatever the case, he would need more information, would he see the girl from the tree again? probably not but that was alright, he wasn't in much hurry to find her and he doubted that anyone would disturb him up here.

Wren wandered through the shelves of books, grabbing books here and there as she went. Wren loved the library for multiple reasons. One of them being books were her escape from reality and two being it was usually quiet in the library which gave her time to think about things. Most time she fall asleep in a book until she was told to leave. She accumulated a pretty big stack of books by the time she was pulled out her thoughts by the weight of the books in her arms. She made her way up to her usual table in the corner of the second floor.

She enjoyed this corner because it was isolated from the rest of library and she hated being bothered by reading unless it was Argahlon she made an exception for him, she blushed as the thought of him crossed her mind. Today unfortunately today was different because there was someone sitting at her table, she frowned as she approached the table. "Excuse me, what are you doing here?" she asked annoyed putting her books down on the table and sliding into the chair across from the boy. "WELL?!" she asked wringing her hands in the air exasperated.

Victor jolted in his seat, snapped back to reality by a thin voice emanating from someone he failed to notice. He initially mistook her as a staff member or a senior student and began an apology before he laid eyes on the person he was speaking to. A tiny girl, or perhaps a fairy trying to emulate a girl, with long brown hair and pale skin had materialized and taken up a position opposite him, an unhappy expression on her face. His apology paused in his throat as he went from concern to confused and finally amusement.

He lent back, a smile half formed on his lips as he blinked just to be sure he wasn't dreaming this up. She looked like a baby swan in a way, a tiny thing trying to look bigger. He didn't quite know what to do or how to respond and he harshly repressed the urge to chuckle at this unusual turn of events. ''I was trying to read'' he finally got out ''I hope that isn't an issue'''. No sense in being rude but he couldn't help gaze at the small pixie across from him. Where was the rest of her? And what gave her the right to demand anything from him? He was surprised she could even climb the stairs to get to the second floor.

His smile grew and he turned away in an attempt to hide from her piecing gaze, and so he could hide the smile.

The boy looked amused and that just made her more mad. "Of course its a problem, you are sitting at my table meaning. It won't be quiet and plus I always sit here. Nobody ever sits here, so why did you decide to sit here today?" she hissed at him almost completely filled by rage. She examined the intruder in at her table he had short brown hair, grey eyes and pale skin. She wasn't having it, he had intruded at her table and he even found it amusing.

She didn't like the way he was staring at her either, it made her self conscious. "Fine, if you are gonna stay just be quiet" she huffed at him opening one of the books and hugged her knees to her chest protecting herself from his gaze. She wasn't even bothered that she was doing this in a skirt she just wanted him to read. She occasionally would glance up from her book to glare at him but was soon to consumed in her book to do so. She hummed to herself softly as she became more and more absorbed into her book. Oh how she loved imagining that she was the main character in one her fairytales.

He sat there, bewildered, she'd stormed in like a gust of wind and like a gust of wind had tossed his thoughts all over the place before she sat down and went quiet. Like the proverbial slamming of the door on the way out. He didn't really know what to do with her, only that her skirt wasn't helping the situation, nor were the occasional glares of death she directed toward him at infrequent intervals. He was remined of his own encounter with another girl which played out in exactly the same manner when his spot was taken, and so in some twisted sense of irony he had inadvertently stolen someone else's spot hoping to find a moment of peace.

He didn't mind reading, he didn't even mind the company. But if she was going to sit there, then he could do without the pouting, the not-so-subtle huffing and the irritated gaze. A few minutes of this went by before he looked up at her from his own book, caught her glare and finally said something ''Right'' He said closing his book rather heavily ''If you're going to sit their then lets get a few things straight shall we? Firstly, when I got here there was no else, and, until I'm introduced to someone, there still won't be anyone else. Second, I don't see you name anywhere, which means it can't be 'yours'. I'm sorry for...actually, you know what. I'm not sorry, I haven't done anything wrong. And I'm not sure I feel like apologising to someone who keeps looking at me like they're about to launch across the table and eat me. So, why don't you and I at least try to start again shall we? Like, Names? 'Hello, how do you do?' that sort of thing?''

His frustration must have seemed out of place coming from his accent but frankly he didn't give a damn. That she wanted to read was grand, that she looked like she was planning his murder wasn't. He also was not interested in being told what was up by someone many times smaller than him without so much as a reasonable explanation which he considered a gross breach of etiquette.

She grumbled as he made his point about her name not being on the table, he made a good point but still she sat there everyday. Wren glared at him as he revoked his apology feeling a pang of guilt at his remark and softened her look. "I'm not gonna eat you" she laughed lightly. her laugh was one of those laughs that almost sounded like a pretty melody or chimes in the wind. She was a bit taken a back when he asked for her name "Why do you want to know my name" she asked suspiciously narrowing her eyes at him. She didn't trust him and she couldn't quite read his intentions.

She sniffed "My names Mornstern, Wren Mornstern. What is yours?" she cautiously. "What are you reading anyways?" she said looking at the cover of his book. She was always happy to find someone to interest in books but why did it have to be him. No she did not like this one bit. Was he there to provoke or was he there to friend? This was the question the boy had left Wren Mornstern wondering to herself as she sat in the that chair on the second floor of the Hogwarts Library.

He sighed quietly to himself, was she suspicious? if so why? Was she so highly strung she couldn't identify him for what he really was? An ordinary and unspectacular boy. Or was it because she could that she wasn't sure what to do? So many questions with few answers, although she comprehended his annoyance and her disposition shifted accordingly, steadying herself to the point where he got a name. It was a start.
Wren, an unusual name, the name of a common family of Birds, but he had not heard it given to a person before. ''Very nice to meet you Wren. My name is Victor'' he didn't feel the need to add his family name, it wouldn't help her much anyway. Her attention turned to his book and he'd been so caught up in the moment he briefly forgot that he actually had a book to read in the first place. Homework done he decided to read something else, he closed it and showed her the cover.
In large gold letters on the front cover the words: HOLY BIBLE sat neatly in the top center amid the backdrop of a warm brown. It was clearly worn.
''It is an odd thing to be reading, here of all places'' he said looking around, refering more to the school than the library ''but I didn't think anyone would join me.''

In the muggle world, the mentioning of God or the Bible or religion generally was enough to prompt most people to walk on by at best, at worst it could start a small war. He hoped to avoid either scenario and was becoming a little more comfortable with his own feelings on the matter. He was Catholic, so long as he didn't start preaching fire and brimstone, he was sure most people would be fine with it. ''And yourself?'' he said, withdrawing the book ''What are you reading?'' he asked, gesturing toward the overly large tome she had hidden behind upon arrival.

So Victor was his name "Nice to meet you Victor" she grinned for the first time during their conversation. She was now transfixed at the cover "The holy bibble" she read on the cover. "Hey, is this real gold" she asked snatching the book as her pirate instincts took over. She waited for his answer to her question before continuing. He seemed to be trying to explain the book to her and she wasn't understanding any of it as she had not grown up in a religion. She flipped through Victor's book "In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth." she read out loud.

"God?" she asked in what kinda crap is this tone. "What is this nonsense?" she said picking it up by one of the covers and stared at it intently. He then asked her what she was reading kind of snapping her out of her thoughts "Oh...uh" she said completely forgetting that she had been reading just moments before. "It's called Red Rose of Ordelia" she said discarding the Bible, picking up her book and hugging it to her chest. "A friend said that I reminded them of the main character" she said blushing. She was once again thinking about that boy he hadn't left her thoughts in weeks.

Alarm caught him as his book vanished from his hand into hers, he was about to answer her question before a sharp and deeply unwelcome comment came forth from her mouth. ''What is this nonsense?'', his breath caught in this throat briefly. He'd not yet met anyone who objected to his faith and the sting of someone doubting was felt by young Victor for the first time.
He narrowed his eyes at her, ''Its not nonsense'' he said in a hushed and dark whisper, extending his hand out to get the book back. If she didn't like it, she could hand it over ''Yes, it is real gold...do you mind?'' It was rude, very rude to his mind, to not only snatch his book from him and then end up calling it nonsense.

Eager to move on, although his train of thought had now thoroughly been derailed, he forced a brief smile ''May I ask what it is about?'' He said, nodding toward her book as he closed his own and returned it to his satchel. Truth be told, he probably wasn't going to bring it to the library again, now that he was aware of the unpleasant feeling that came with someone openly criticizing something he put great value on. Although, if he steadied himself for just a moment, hard as it was, he could also imagine her not intending to offend him, still it certainly didn't win her many points.
She was probably muggle-born, that would explain a few things and if so he could forgive it a little easier, not everyone had the benefit of purity to call upon, she would be a little rough around the edges he supposed. No matter, this feeling too would pass shortly.

Wren's eyes lit up when he said that it was real gold. "You should sell it, could make a fortune" her eyes sparkled. He then asked about the book."Oh my god, it's so good. You should totally read it!" she gushed.

"So this girl Red Maximoff was born with supernatural powers that are dangerous to the world. Therefore, no one but her family members knew about her secret. She unintentionally caused the murder of her parents and hated herself. She is forbidden to fall in love, to prevent the chance of another supernatural being born... until her cousin's betrothed falls in love with her. Erwien Stexford is the crown prince of Ordelia. When the kingdom faced financial crises, Erwien's father arranges his marriage to the daughter of their richest businessman, Robert Maximoff. But when Erwien lays his eyes on Robert's mysterious neice, he realizes what his heart truly desires. As the two struggle against the dangerous forces that threaten to keep them apart, they realize that their destiny lies in each other's hands." she babbled until she ran out of breath, she inhaled sharply. She grinned at Victor overly excited to share about her book. "I'll let you borrow it once i'm done if you want" she offered.
