Tis The Season Open Closed

It was a bright, sunny December morning as Luke headed down to the great hall for breakfast. He was a strong believer that Christmas season didn't start until December 1st- however, when the grand month finally arrived, Luke went all out. Who didn't love Christmas? He had already decorated his bed with little Christmas-themed drawings and had bought loads of gingerbread from Diagon Alley, which he had nearly run out of already.
Sighing contently, Luke entered the Great Hall and glanced around, trying to search for somebody to sit with. Even though he was a highly extroverted, people-oriented guy, he hadn't really made any close companions at Hogwarts yet. He had a few people that he talked to sometimes- Jacob and Julia, who he had met on the train, and a few nice kids he passed in the hallway on the way to Charms- but he didn't have any true friends. Luke supposed he talked to the guys in his dorm a lot, but he wasn't in the inner circle. You know- the Bro Circle.
The first year Hufflepuff headed over to his table, sitting next to somebody random that he didn't think he recognized.
"Hey," Luke greeted the person, smiling warmly and sticking out his hand, crossing his other fingers behind his back, hoping this went well and that he didn't make a total fool of himself. "My name's Luke, what about you? I don't think I've seen you around."

On the enchanting morning of Christmas Day, May, a bright-eyed first-year Ravenclaw, awoke to the soft glow of dawn filtering through her dormitory window. The anticipation of the festive day ahead sent a ripple of excitement through her, prompting her to leap out of bed with an eagerness that only Christmas could evoke.

The Ravenclaw common room was adorned with elegant blue and silver decorations, creating a serene ambience that perfectly complemented May's house colors. The air was filled with the scent of evergreen and the distant melody of carolers echoing through the magical halls of Hogwarts.

May, in her Ravenclaw robes, descended the spiral staircase to find her fellow Ravenclaws already gathered, engaged in animated conversations and exchanging small parcels. The room buzzed with intellectual curiosity and festive cheer, a unique blend that made Ravenclaw's holiday celebrations stand out. May was an introvert, but the kind people in Ravenclaw had managed to get her to talk to them, and anyway, who didn't love Christmas?

As she settled into the cosy surroundings, a fellow Slytherin approached, holding a carefully wrapped package. It was her best friend, Siri (her real name Sara).

"Merry Christmas, May!" Siri exclaimed, handing her the gift. "So I know you love sweets, here's a haul from Honeydukes, it's one of my favourites."

May's eyes sparkled with gratitude as she unwrapped the thoughtful present. The exchange of gifts among Hogwarts students reflected not only the spirit of Christmas but also the shared love for pursuits.

At about 7:00,, she made her way down to the great hall, already full of people, she wanted to go to the Library but Siri dragged her down the stairs.

"Hey Siri, over here, some Griffindors to prank!" shouted an unknown Slytherin!
"Coming!" Siri turned to May apologetically, "Can't miss this opportunity May, see you at Quidditch!"

Before May could open her mouth, Siri had disappeared among the crown, so May did the thing she always did; read. No matter what time, what day, what month, where she would read. Unknowingly, she accidentally sat at the Hufflepuff table. She was just about to get to the good bit when she heard a boy sitting next to her .

"Hey," the boy said, putting his hand out, "My name is Luke, what about you? I don't think I've seen you around."

May smiled at Luke's introduction, her eyes briefly glancing at the outstretched hand before she shook it gently.

"Hi, I'm May," she replied, her voice soft yet friendly. "I normally spend more time in the library; only come down here for food."

Luke chuckled, his friendly demeanour putting May at ease. "You're not from Hufflepuff, are you?"

May giggled softly, realizing her unintended detour, "No, I'm actually from Ravenclaw. Must've gotten lost in the sea of yellow and black."

Luke grinned, "No worries! Ravenclaw, huh? The clever bunch. What's your favourite subject?"

May's eyes brightened as she delved into a topic she loved, "Definitely, charms. There's something fascinating about the intricacies of spellwork."

Luke's eyes lit up, "Charms is cool!"

As they chatted, May found herself drawn into a conversation that flowed effortlessly, discovering common ground despite the unexpected detour to the Hufflepuff table. Hogwarts, with its diverse personalities and shared love for magic, never ceased to surprise her. And in that moment, amidst the Christmas cheer, May realized that sometimes the best stories unfolded when you least expected them.

Luke payed close attention to what the girl- no, May- was saying.

"I love your name- May! Like the month! One of my favorites, if I do say so myself," he added, taking a quick bite of waffles before continuing the conversation. May told her she was a Ravenclaw- Luke had suspected she wasn't from his house, as he probably would've noticed her in the last three months.

Since she was in Ravenclaw, Luke immedietly assumed she loved classes, so he jumped to the next obvious question: "What's your favorite subject?"

May's eyes seemed to light up when he asked her this. That was something Luke admired about the majority of Ravenclaws- they just enjoyed learning. Whether it be inside a classroom or out, they seemed to have endless curiosity and excitement about the world, which was something Luke couldn't say about himself. He was more creature-oriented, which included both animals and people, but not so much knowledge in general, so people who were the opposite never failed to entrance him.

"Definitely, charms. There's something fascinating about the intricacies of spellwork."

"Charms is cool!" Luke agreed. It was, indeed, one of his favorite classes along with Astronomy (which he loved because he got to stay up late and the professor was amazing). "I'm so looking forward to Care of Magical Creatures. Animals are my specialty- magical or not, I love them so much. I've looked into careers concerning animals in the magic world and Magizooligist seems like an awesome one, so that's what I'm working towards!" the young Hufflepuff shared.

"So... what do you think you want to be when you grow up? Librarian?" Luke joked, smiling hugely again and searching for a second helping of waffles.

The conversation was going great! May didn't like talking to people, let alone boys, but Luke seemed like a really nice person!

"So what do you want to be when you grow up? Librarian?" Luke joked.

May had to laugh at that, "Being a Librarian would be great, but everything thinks Librarians are strict, I don't tell people off for giving in books a day late- not that I would know, I've set the record of never returning a book late." May said proudly "Um, to be honest, I'm not sure, maybe a professor or an author, or BOTH!"

May realised she was rambling and flushed a light red. "Sorry, I got carried away!"

Luke grinned. "I always ramble, it's a way to get everything out! Well, the wizarding world is vast. You'll find your niche for sure. It's all about following your heart, right?"

"Spoken like a true Hufflepuff" May commented as they burst out into laughter.

As they finished their breakfast, May couldn't help but think that Hogwarts had a way of bringing people together, fostering friendships and shared aspirations. Little did she know that this chance encounter with Luke would mark the beginning of a magical journey filled with friendship, discovery, and the wonders of the wizarding world.

"So May, what class do you have?" Luke asked as they were exiting the Grand Hall.

"Your favourite, Care of Magical Creatures!" exclaimed May.

"No way, same! Hagrid's the best isn't he?"

"Hagrid's so sweet, all the creatures love him!" agreed May

"Allow me to walk us to class" Luke asked, in a fake, posh British accent.

"Of course, lead the way sir" May played back.

Both of them giggled through the hallways talking about whatever came to their minds.

"So, let's ask each other basic things, since now we're friends!" Luke said, "First, special question for you, what's your favourite book?"

May thought hard and deeply, she couldn't choose only one of her babies, the books she read were like her children "I can't choose between my children!"

Luke exploded into laughter and May realised she had said that out loud "Sorry! But seriously I can't. Anyway, my turn to ask the question, when's your birthday?"
