While waiting for Minnie to join her at the surface of the water, Tracey saw other people jumping into the lake. She was amazed with how many people had came to the lake that day just to dive into the freezing water to place a rock at the end of the lake, but then again, you could make friends at the lake. Tracey had just made one, Minnie, who lost a pet just like she had. Not so long after Tracey had popped her head out of the water, she heard a voice compliment her on her dive. She turned to face the voice and saw a girl around her age with her hair tied up in a bun. Tracey smiled and said,
"Th-thanks. You-your the on-only one who has comp-complimented me on m-my front flip dive. Uh, I-I'm Tracey Bailey,"
Tracey knew that the girl was also shy, since she was stuttering more than Tracey was! But, Tracey had a feeling that she could become great friends with the girl and maybe her, Minnie, and the girl could all become friends, since they all met at the Great Lake. Tracey mentally thanked the caretaker for organizing this event, since she had met two new people, who could both become great friends with her!

By the time she shut her mouth, Katie was already flushing at the compliment she gave the other girl. What if it was not well-received? Was she wrong to compliment how the other girl dived in? Was it too forward, or a weird comment to say? Her mind spun with self-doubt, willing her to go back below the water to escape her embarrassment. Then, she’d have to avoid this girl for the remainder of their time at Hogwarts. Ugh, all because she couldn’t keep her mouth shut.
Her flush turned darker when the girl smiled to her and accepted her compliment. She could easily tell that this girl was also shy, based on her stutter, which was not nearly as bad as hers was. Katie gave a shy smile back. “Yo-you-you’re wel-welcome. I ho-hope mo-more do, it wa-was fan-fantas-fantastic,” she continued. Then, Tracey introduced herself. “I’m Kaitlyn, or Katie, Connor,” she responded, her smile warming a little. “It-it’s ni-nice to meet yo-you, Tra-Tracey,” she continued to stammer. 'I hope I don’t scare her off with all my stammering. Maybe I should have put that on the rock.' She was curious to see that Tracey was not immediately trying to leave the lake. She wanted to ask if Tracey had dived in alone, but didn’t want to embarass herself further.Reducio

Tracey noticed that the girl was blushing, probably because she was embarrassed from the comment she had just given. Tracey didn't say anything about it, since she didn't want to scare the girl away. She noticed that when she had smiled at the girl, her blush went darker, but she paid it no mind at all. Her smile grew bigger when she heard the girl speak and the girl introduced herself as Kaitlyn.
"I-I hope you-your right. I-I've been practicing for awhile now. A-a long time act-actually. M-my mother taught it to me. Ni-nice to meet you too, Kaite!" Tracey happily says.
She was glad Kaitlyn had complimented her on her dive, cause if she didn't, she wasn't sure if anyone would. She hopped that Minnie had saw her dive into the lake, and hopefully Minnie would also compliment Tracey, if she did see the dive, but she wouldn't care if no one else does. And maybe she could shoe the dive to her friends, tho she didn't want to break a rule by diving into the Great Lake, maybe she could ask a prefect to supervise her, just in case something went wrong, but that'll be for another, not today.

Thoughts: italicsIt was good news that her comments had not scared Tracey off. Katie was happy to see that Tracey stayed with her in the water. Maybe this was her chance to make another friend. She could use more of them and, hopefully, enough time to not be a completely shy mess around them all the time. Then again, she seemed to get better with time. Hopefully, that trend will continue. Most of the students did not just jump up and run away from her, when she opened her mouth. That gave her a good feeling, at least. She could feel the heat on her cheeks lessen slightly. She was not a fan of being this shy.
“Th-that’s awe-awesome,” Katie gave a shy giggle. She personally didn’t have the time to practice diving, even with her friend group from St. Ann’s. Then again, they were a part of different hobbies, so it probably should not be that surprising. It still would have been cool to learn it in such a controlled environment. “You s-sound ded-dedicated. But, I’m gl-glad t-to se-see tha-that you-your dive ca-came out we-well," she continued. “I’m a fi-first ye-year Slyth-Slytherin,” she stammered. She hoped that other students saw Tracey’s dive. Tracey looked down at the water wondering if she'd be able to swim with her two new friends. Well, she thought of both Minnie and Kaitlyn as her new friends, but wasn't sure if they also thought of her as their new friends like she did. While deep in her thoughts about her new friends, she snapped out of them when she heard Kaitlyn speak. Tracey nodded her head before saying,
"Th-thanks. I-i am de-definitely dedicated. This was my second time doing the dive, a-and I'm glad I didn't mess up. It took a lot of practice to get it right. I-i'm all-also a first year, but in Ravenclaw,"
Tracey just realized that Kaitlyn is the second Slytherin girl she's met. She had already met a Slytherin boy, but she didn't really get to know him that well, Since he had left. She had actually met 2 Slytherin boys, one first year and one second year, and she's also met another Slytherin girl who is also a first year. Tracey was glad she's able to meet other people from other houses except for her own, which is Ravenclaw. She wondered how Kaitlyn and Tracey's relationship will form, but she's hopping that they become great friends.

Sere's first winter at Hogwarts. When the Gryffindor girl returned from her winter break, Sere found the annual Hogwarts Polar Plunge poster plastered on the bulletin board. Simple, yet so mature. That's what Sere thought about the event's concept when she first read the poster. Coupled with the-pretty-cool caretaker Finley Greer as the organizer, Sere decided to come to the Great Lake on Saturday.
And this is where she is now, with a winter cloak wrapped her tiny body, a brown scarf and a red beanie covering her head, completed with the thick-black trousers and brown boots. Sere sees a group of students already near the Great Lake when she arrived. Wow! The caretaker is managed to wear something like that in this season? Sere is amazed to see Finley still able to wear a swimsuit in the cold-snowy season.
Right after Sere arrived, Finley Greer gave a more detailed explanation about this event. Sere nodded in understanding, but her brain immediately thought about what she would write on the rock. Sere walked slowly and waited for the crowd of students taking the rocks to leave first, then she took one of the rocks and also a marker with blue ink.
One thing that Sere remembers as a precious moment in the past year is how her life began to change after getting to know something that was very new to her. She recalled how she started interacting with the students and became friends with some of them. She remembers all the pleasant, awkward, and some unexpected encounters. It is something that feels just like a beautiful flower of her precious first moment in the magical world.
Sere lowered her head, looked at the stone in her hand, then smiled slightly. Making sure that no one can see that smile. But when that smile began to appear, a glimpse of the feeling she hated came back over her. That loneliness, that emptiness, that feeling of sadness itself.
She also remembers the tears that appeared again last year as a contrast to the happiness she experienced. Two excessive feelings that Sere previously tried to suppress until this girl experienced neither happiness nor sadness, feeling nothing. Now when the happiness appears, the sadness also appears along with it.
Sere quickly shook her head. She opened the marker and wrote TEARS with no hesitation. She cleared her throat to clear her mind which was starting to filled up with snippets of moments from last year. I want a happiness without sadness. Is it possible? Sere looked at the rock and walked closer towards the Great Lake.
Sere squatted in front of the cold water and then took off the right glove. She grasped the rock, putting her hand which was still holding the rock into the water. Closing her eyes, feels the freezing sensation all over her right palm just for a second, Sere takes a deep breath and then exhaling white steam from her lips. I don't have to chase away the sadness for now, at least I will chase away the tears first.
Sere let go of the rock in her hand and took her hand out of the water. She stared at the water forming small waves, then stood up, dried her hands and put her gloves back on. Sere walking away from the Great Lake, not in a very good mood as the wave of memories invading her mind at the moment, all the excessive feelings she hate the most.
But, there is one thing keeps coming back and becomes the top of her mind: A happiness without sadness. Is it possible?

Minnie jumped in after Tracey, doing a simple dive. She saw Tracey do a pretty cool dive. She immediately let out a little yelp as her body hit the cold water. But soon it became the comfortable warm water she was used to. She felt her body relaxing and releasing all the tension she had had. Wow. I love water. This is better than any massage I could have. I wish I could be in the water for as long as I wanted. She sighed. But I should probably put my rock in the lake.Outfit:Reducio

Minnie took a look around the lake, searching for a place that was right for her stone. She cradled the scarf wrapped around the rock, not wanting it to fall off. She swam over to a patch of sand that was on the floor of the lake. It looked pretty promising. She took a closer look at it and saw to her dismay that a large fish was sitting on the sand. It might eat the scarf. I can't have that happen. I'll go look for another place. So she swam off.
The next place she saw that looked good was a place near the surface. It had a bunch of underwater flowers, so it would be nice. After taking a deep breath of air on the surface, she went back in and went to place her rock. But sadly, many other people had the same thought about the flowers. The flowers were covered with rocks and the flowers no longer looked so inviting. I want my spot to be original. I want my rock to be the only one there. This place isn't where I want to put Opal's scarf and rock somewhere else. The amount of rocks on the flowers made her think of the sand and the fish. I wonder why there weren't any rocks there? She shivered. Maybe the fish ate them. Yup, it was a good choice to not go on the sand. And she swam to find another spot.
Minnie looked up to find a patch of reeds. It didn't look particularly inviting, but she felt something that made her swim over. It was pretty, and no weird fish or lots of rocks were there. It felt...right. I think that Opal would like this spot. She was a slightly strange cat, in that she liked water. So I think she'll love this place. Her mind flashed to a memory when she found Opal in a lake, hugging some reeds. Yeah, this is where Opal's scarf should be. This is where my rock should be. So she gently set down her rock among the reeds, safe and protected.
When she surfaced, she decided to stay above the water and just float while she thought about the challenge. She had met a new friend, finally told someone about Opal, let go of the sadness, found a place for Opal's scarf, and re-birthed her love for swimming and water. All in all, it had been a pretty good day, and she was happy she had done the challenge. Now she could leave the water, happy and with a new friend.

Thoughts: italicsKaitlyn smiled pleasantly to Tracey. She liked how the Ravenclaw was continuing talking to her, despite being in the frozen lake together. And for that matter, despite not knowing each other previously. And she appreciated how kind Tracey seemed. “Th-that’s awesome. I wi-wish I had mo-more t-time for swimming in th-the past,” she lamented, giving a brighter smile. She also noted how she was stuttering less, more so from the cold now. And if she could see herself, her blush died down a bit. Her cheeks still looked a little rosy from the cold.
Katie giggled quietly. “A Ra-ravenclaw? That’s gr-great. I’m very st-studious, too,” she responded, pushing a piece of wet brunette hair out of her face. She didn’t want to appear too awkward, so she did her best to continue the conversation. “Th-this is m-my third time do-doing one of th-these,” she added. She hoped that she could be friends with Tracey. ‘She seems nice. I hope she wouldn’t mind hanging out with me sometime. 'Do I ask or just try to see if it flows naturally?’ Her mind raced with indecision, hoping not to scare off Tracey. In addition to being shy, she constantly had social anxiety and always questioned how others took what she said. She often opted to stay quiet to not upset anyone else.Reducio

January 6, 2024Open for interactionsWord count: 598/500It was late morning, and Matilde stood on the shore of the Great Lake with a large group of other students. She was wearing a green one piece and a towel wrapped tightly around her like a cocoon. It wasn’t quite enough to keep the winter air out, but that was the least of her worries. She was about to get way colder.
When the caretaker instructed the students to do so, Matilde took a marker and a rock from the pile. Something she wanted to leave behind in 2023… The beginning of 2023 had been rough for Matilde. She had found out that her best friend was moving to France and they wouldn’t be going to Hogwarts together like they thought. After getting her letter in June, she had spent the rest of the summer dreading leaving. She loved her house, her farm, and her life and she couldn’t bear the thought that she would only spend summers and holidays with her family and friends back home. Then the school year began, and the excitement and newness of it all cheered her up a little. She enjoyed learning magic, and she was good at it. She loved her dorm, and beautiful Scotland.
And yet, the whole school year so far, she had been worried she wouldn’t make friends and that she wouldn’t fit in. That was it. That was what she wanted to forget. It was such a silly thing to be worrying about for so long, especially when she had met someone she genuinely liked on the very first day. She had been scared that there was no one there for her here. Though she’d always had a lot of friends, her best friend was the only one outside her family Matilde ever felt like she could confide in. Now he had moved, and he was so far away at Beauxbaton. But over the last few months Matilde had realized that she wasn’t alone. Her brother was here, and she had made new friends. She could have multiple good friends. So on her rock, in blue marker, she wrote, fear of being alone.
Matilde removed her towel, folding it and placing it on a large rock. Stone in hand, she gritted her teeth, and sprinted full speed into the lake. Somehow, in her mad effort to get it over with, she had lost her balance. She splashed into the water headfirst. Matilde scrambled to her feet, coughing. She looked around at the other students. Hopefully no one saw that. Maybe they would think she’d done it on purpose. The water was so cold, Matilde felt like she couldn’t breathe. She wrapped her arms around her body, trying to keep herself from shaking. On account of her moment of clumsiness, she’d almost forgotten about her rock. She waded in a little further, and dropped it gently into the water.
Matilde made her way out of the water, this time with more care than before. Once out of the water, she ran to her towel, wrapping it around herself quickly. Professor Greer handed her a pair of slippers. They were fuzzy, and pink. They reminded Matilde of something, but she wasn’t sure what. As she was putting them on, she heard another student exclaim, “Ooh, pygmy puff slippers!” Gasping, Matilde yanked them off her feet. They were made of pygmy puffs?! She remembered seeing the little creatures on her trips to Diagon Alley. She felt a bit like crying. The girl took a deep breath in, trying to calm herself. Maybe she could give them to a friend.

While talking with Kaitlyn, Tracey saw Minnie surface back up. She noticed that her new friend was floating and she decided to call over to her so she said,
"Hey, Minnie, come here! We can hangout together, that is if you want to,"
When she said that, she realized her stutter that went away. She became very happy now. She was so happy, it was like she was beaming, and she looked in the water to see her hair slightly turning into a yellow color which made her frown. Maybe she'll dye her hair blonde so then the yellow color wouldn't be too noticeable.
"Really? Well, maybe we could swim in the lake sometime, obviously with a staff supervising us," Tracey suggests.
Now that her ability had been shown, she hopped that she didn't scare Minnie or Kaitlyn away thinking she was weird or something was happening to Tracey, when she was perfectly fine, just a tad bit too happy. She didn't like her brown hair with yellow highlights, but she let it stay like that until the two girls noticed.
"Not all Ravenclaws are studious. I mean, I met one that is bad in Herbology and Potions, he kinda broke two pots in greenhouse one," Tracey said.
She whispered the last part. She didn't want more people knowing about what her fellow Ravenclaw had done, but then again, it was kinda his fault for picking up two pots and trying to carry them. She then added,
"Oh, that's cool. By the way, d'you think yellow suits me?"
