Imagining Dancing
Minnie walked up into the ballroom, staring. It must have been so wonderful, dancing here. She screwed up her face, trying to imagine what she would look like back then, and grew her hair out. There. Now I look like a lady back then. She smiled, satisfied, and put her hair back to normal. This is such a beautiful place. Imagine if I could dance here. Imagine if Theo was here. I could dance with him. She smiled dreamily and started to dance around the empty ballroom.

She had come upon it by pure chance, exploring a bit, and suddenly she opened the door to this place. Every day after class now, she would visit and sit and look at the wonderful view. "I love this place. I can think about everything alone here!" She said to herself. "And I can dance without being embarrassed! No one ever is here anyways. It's just me." Then she let out a little sigh. "It would be nice to have someone else here though." She admitted. Minnie stopped dancing and looked around. I just wish there was someone who could understand me and dance with me or something like that. She sighed wistfully. But that will never happen.

Thoughts: italicsKatie twirled a little, as she darted around a corner. She was headed to the ballroom. When she was packing to come to Hogwarts, she had assumed that she’d have no need to her elegant ballroom gowns. But, the first time she’d laid her eyes on the ballroom in Hogwarts, she knew her assumptions were wrong. The ballroom was an elegant room that must have held plenty of previous balls and parties. Lots of dancing students, and maybe many romantic opportunities. It felt like a truly magical place, and she loved to use it to practice dancing. It was even big enough that if there were other people in the room, she had a considerable amount of space to herself.
A giggle danced on her lips, as she opened the door to the ballroom. She stopped in her tracks when she noticed a girl in there already. The girl looked similar in age to her, and appeared to be standing there in the room. Her face flushed, hoping that she hadn’t interrupted something important or barged in during an important moment. “S-so-sorry,” she stammered, as her heart beat in her chest, feeling anxious. “If I’m interrupting something, I could leave …” she trailed off, resting her hand on the doorknob.

Imagining Dancing
Minnie paled as she heard someone walk in. Jelly slugs! This is bad. I can't believe someone found me like this! She didn't hear what the person said, but it sounded nervous. She turned around and found a girl about her age standing with her hand on the doorknob. She was a pretty girl, with pale skin and brown hair. She looked shy like Minnie. "Um...erm....hi? How are you? Who are you? Do....um...What's your name? My name is Minnie. What brings you here?" She fumbled with her words and finally managed to form a coherent sentence.

Minnie blushed. I need to learn how to talk to people! She thought. I hope this girl likes to dance. Imagine if we could dance and have fun here together! She sighed. But that will never happen. I should at least make an effort to make a friend here though. Jack would want me to. So she smiled at the girl and hoped that she could learn how to talk to strangers.
"Do....um....do you....like to...um...dance?" She asked, trying to have a conversation. Her cheeks if possible became more red. "Because this is a ballroom?" Minnie started to wish she had never tried to have this conversation. Just have some pleasantries and get out of here! She told herself.

Despite saying very little to this girl, so far, Katie could tell this girl was shy like her. To be honest, she felt more relaxed talking to shy students. Since they were both socially awkward, she was less concerned with her own deficiency. Her cheeks flushed bright red at Minnie’s questions, all of which sounded the same. “Hi. Um, forgive me if I fail to answer all of those. But it’s nice to meet you, Minnie. I’m Kaitlyn, or Katie. I’m a first-year Slytherin,” she explained with a small smile. “And, I came get to practice,” she said quietly.
At Minnie’s question, Katie’s cheeks flushed an even brighter red, and she nodded stiffly. “I … um … y-ye-yes,” she stammered, her eyes turning down to look at her sandals. “D-do yo-you?” She asked, quietly. After a few moments of looking at her feet, she looked back up at Minnie. “Um, do you want to … if you don’t mind … maybe … dance …together?” She asked, looking at Minnie in her eyes, her cheeks flushed. “If you want to, that is. Or separately, if you prefer,” she blurted out, glancing back down at her feet. As much as she liked girls, she had to constantly reminder herself that not every girl was like her in that regard.ReducioWord Count: 217

Minnie smiled. Kaitlyn had suggested what she was itching to do. "I would love to dance with each other! It'll be so fun! Although....I'm not a dancer myself so...I just do it for fun in free time occasionally." She stopped. Don't scare her off. Your first chance at a friend who might dance with you, and you don't want her to go away. She took a deep breath and looked up at Kaitlyn. "Here, would you want to....do a spinney dance?"

Minnie took another deep breath and held out her hand. "So...want to dance?" She then decided to tell Kaitlyn about herself. "How about I tell you a bit about me? It's an easy way to get to know each other." Then she started to talk about her personality. "I have a really energetic personality, and also a really um....mischievous one. Or as I call it, fun." She smiled, trying to make a joke. "Anyways...I'm a pureblood and I want to own a bakery for wizards one day. I've made a few sweets of my own." She blushed at that statement. "But that's a bit about me. Could you tell me about you?" Minnie looked at the girl and tugged at her bag, hoping that Kaitlyn would be her new friend.

Thoughts: italicsKatie smiled pleasantly at Minnie. She seemed friendly enough. She took a better look at Minnie, shyly. Short blonde hair. Glasses. A lovely complextion. She was well aware that Minnie was pretty. She found her shyness being replaced with nervousness. Katie didn’t want to scare away this girl by being a complete weirdo. “Great!” She responded happily. “Regardless, I think it’s cool that you dance, even if it’s just for fun,” she smiled. She giggled quietly at Minnie’s offer. “I’d love to, if you don’t mind,” she responded.
Kaitlyn looked down at Minnie’s hand and smiled brightly. She took her hand and nodded. “I want to, yes,” she confirmed with a smile. She flushed lightly as she heard Minnie talk about herself, already noticing a similarity. “Honestly, you already seem fun to me. I cannot wait to see how much more fun you can be,” she said with a giggle. “Um. So … I’m a muggle-born. As you can probably see, I’m kind of shy. Although I’ll warm up to you, I promise. I’m very studious and dedicated to learning here at Hogwarts. Um … I don’t want to bore you with all the hobbies I have, unless you want me to, of course. But, I also like to bake sweets, too. My favorite ones are chocolate chip cookies and brownies,” she responded, realizing that she rambled. For once, she didn’t care. She wanted to be friends with Minnie, already seeing that she’d have a great time with her.ReducioWord Count: 249

Minnie started to spin around with Kaitlyn, her anxiety melting in the fun of dancing. "I love brownies and chocolate cookies! But usually I try to make them really fun and exotic and end up burning down my kitchen, well nearly at least." She giggled. Kaitlyn seems so fun! And she seems to have a personality a lot like me. It's nice meeting someone who's shy like me. Makes them easier to talk to.

"It's so cool that you lived with muggles! I find them so fascinating, living without magic. They have pretty wacky ideas of magic too. I love to read their muggle books. Is that strange?" Minnie asked. If it was, she didn't care too much she realized. Kaitlyn probably won't mind. She was really enjoying dancing. "Anyways, after this...would you want to meet up again?" Her shyness came back slightly, nervous about asking the other girl if she wanted to talk to her later. "I think that you're a really fun person so I would like to keep talking and being friends with you." She blushed a deep shade of red, realizing what she had said. "I mean...if you want to be friends. Sorry I blurted that out."

Thoughts: italicsAs she held Minnie’s hand and started spinning with her, Kaitlyn felt a little heat rise in her cheeks. She was not embarrassed for Minnie to see her dance. On the contrary, she was happy. Happy to have found someone that liked to dance, and even more so that was willing to dance with her. As much as she fantasized of dancing with another girl before, she was slightly apprehensive at the act of dancing with another girl. It was new to her. Although she knew how to dance, she didn’t want to screw this up. Besides, having another girl this close to her made her slightly nervous. She had tried a new tulip perfume earlier, and hoped she didn’t spray too much on.
Katie smiled at Minnie’s statement and giggled slightly. “May I ask, how do you make them fun and exotic? I mainly just make them regularly. But I’d love suggestions, and that does sound really interesting,” she responded quietly. “You must be fun to have in the kitchen,” she smiled.
At Minnie’s statement, Katie nodded. “Yes, I have been. I never really understood their magic before,” she admitted. A giggle danced on her lips at Minnie’s question. “Strange? No, I don’t find that strange. I may be biased in that regard. What muggle books do you like to read?” She asked. She liked talking with Minnie. While she was still a little shy, she did feel more comfortable around Minnie. Just with the act of dancing with her, despite the lack of music, made her feel more confident to talk. Plus, it helped that Minnie was easy to talk to.
Her blue eyes expanded a little at Minnie’s offer. Before she had a chance to respond, Minnie started to act shyly around her. Kaitlyn smiled slightly and let Minnie finish. She let a few beats of silence fall between them, just to make sure that Minnie was done. Contrary to her shyness, she looked Minnie in the eyes. “I’d love to meet up again after this. I’m enjoying talking to you too, and I’d like to be friends with you, too. You’re fun to be around, and I really like that you’re dancing with me,” she said. She went to hold Minnie’s other hand, smiling again. “I want to be friends with you,” she said, clearly and confidently.ReducioWord Count: 391

Minnie glowed with happiness. "Thank you!" She smiled so hard she thought her teeth might hurt from it all. "And I love realistic fiction, mystery, and fantasy. They're all so fascinating!" She continued to dance, feeling the rhythm under her feet. It didn't matter that there was no music. she could imagine the music and the people dancing around with them. It was exactly what she wanted to do. And someone had made that dream come true.Outfit:Reducio

This has been the perfect day. I get to dance with her, and she doesn't mind. Kaitlyn doesn't seem nervous at all! Now you just have to stop being nervous yourself. You can do this Minnie. She thought to herself.
"About your remark on me being fun in the kitchen..." She started, surprisingly not feeling nervous. "...I might be fun if you like fire extinguishers! My mum nearly went insane one time when I burned our stove trying to make pizza croissants. Don't ask, it was a failure and I don't know what I was thinking." She burst out laughing, surprising herself. It felt good to laugh and let her worries go away. She hadn't done that in a while, buried in her worries and school work. But the simple dance with Kaitlyn had made her head feel clear. She had to do this again.

Thoughts: italicsKaitlyn giggled and smiled. “And, maybe, if you’d like, we can dance more like this in the future? As much fun as it is to dance by myself, I like having a partner, and you seem pretty good at this,” she suggested with a hopeful smile. Despite just meeting, she already liked being around Minnie. She hoped the Hufflepuff felt the same way about her. “Oooh. I like those, too. I’d also add science fiction to that list. I guess we share a similar taste. When I packed to come here, I didn’t know how much room I’d have in my dorm, so I didn’t pack too many books. But, I have a bunch in there …” She trailed off, realizing that Minnie would not be able to come into the Slytherin Common Room.
Katie flushed a little. “Sorry, I was having so much fun, I forgot. You wouldn’t be able to see,” she frowned slightly. But an idea came to mind, and she gave Minnie another bright smile. “You’d be welcome to borrow any of my books. Maybe I can show you them at some point?” She offered. She was well aware that she rambled. Normally, she’d flush and shy away from the person. Yet, being around Minnie and dancing with her gave her the confidence to continue the conversation as normal. She liked this feeling.
At the end of Minnie’s story, Katie laughed as well. After taking a few moments to catch her breath, she smiled at Minnie. “I’m not sure if the Hogwarts kitchen would be open to fire extinguishers. But, a pizza croissant sounds intriguing. If you want, maybe I can help you make some of your concoctions. While I cannot promise to make any of them better, you’d have the company of a friend,” She offered, a genuine smile on her face. She already felt like this friendship with Minnie was already helping her. And, she was already trying to make plans, which was always helpful.ReducioWord Count: 331
