Dark Arts and Disagreements

Quinn walked down the hallway and noticed that the courtyard seemed to be a place were people were hanging out. Quinn walked into the courtyard and wandered around. I am glad that class is over for now. Quinn thought. She had been thinking about her most recent defense against the dark arts class and how hard it was. At least we only have to get taught the defense and not also the dark arts. Quinn shivered thinking about the dark arts.
Quinn remembered when her mom had told her a story about the dark arts. Quinn had been sitting on the couch doing reading when her mom had walked over and sat down next to her.
"What are you reading?" she had asked. Quinn had responded.
"Dawn of the Dark. It's about a girl who had evil parents but then uses the dark arts for good... It's complicated." Quinn's mom had nodded then been silent for a few minutes, thinking.
"You know I've had an encounter with the dark arts." Quinn looked up suprised.
"really?" Quinn asked. Her mom smiled.
"mhm. It's nothing to joke about. You see I had been walking down hogsmeade one day... Quinn listned with rapt attention to the story.
"Wow mom that must have been scary." Quinn said wit ha terrified look on her face after the story finished. Here mom noticed Quinn's face.
"Oh it won't happen to you dear. Your fine."
Quinn came back to earth and started walking again. Thinking outloud Quinn said,
"I'm glad that they only teach defense against the dark arts and not the dark arts." she would have continued if a voice had not interuptted her.

Dark Arts and Disagreements
Dennis, as he normally does, was headed out of the library. He had just finished the last bit of personal research he was doing. Even when the Ravenclaw wasn’t doing homework he was always thinking about something, writing about something, researching something. He was a curious boy and spent most of his life with his wizard family in the muggle world. An odd living arrangement. They weren’t adverse to magic, in fact during the holidays he went to visit his father’s family right here in the Scottish Highlands.
He thought he had a lot of mature opinions about the world and about learning, as does every student that ever existed. They were, however, little more than parroting noises from what he heard his parents saying, like a normal 11 year old boy.
He needed a break so he headed to the courtyard. He normally had some friends who loitered there and went to go see who was around. When he arrived, the courtyard was quite busy but he couldn’t find any of his friends. The red head was crossing the courtyard when he heard one of the other Ravenclaw students say they were glad they didn’t study dark arts at Hogwarts.
The girl passed but Dennis, well Dennis couldn’t mind his own business. Not when it was a Ravenclaw being thankful she didn’t have to learn something. Knowledge, after all, is power. “Actually,” the Scot said loudly, turned around and jogged over to her. “How can we know if these defense work if we don’t also learn the dark arts? It would make sense to give us some sort of lived experience instead of just shooting sparks out of our wand right? Defense without offense is a little bit like practicing blocking a sword but never seeing what a sword was until it was swinging at you in real life.”

Dark Arts and Disagreements
The kid ran over to Quinn and in an annoyinly loud voice stated the dark arts gived peolple a sort of lived expirience.
"Excuse me?" Quinn asked started to grow annoyed with this first year.
"Facing the dark arts isn't play kid." Quinn said, enfisizing the "kid." Her mind flashed back to her mothers story.
"You seem like the type of person who would say stuff without really knowing anything." Quinn said to the first year. The boy was making her life more annoying by the minute. His snobby little voice is infuriating! Quinn thought. Turning away from the boy she made sure to flick her hair in his direction. The boy was very similar to Quinn it seemed. He has a scottish accent and I have an irish one. He is a ravenclaw but he certainly doesn't have enough brains. Quinn rolled her eyes as she turned back to the boy.
"You know, the dark arts are more dangerous then someone waving there wand at you." Quinn didn't want the boy to think she was an insufurable know-it-all but she really didn't like the way he was cassually talking about the dark arts. Quinn looked at the boy again.
"What is your name?" In her head she added, if he doesn't tell me, I'll just call him annoying boy. Quinn sighed and wondered if the boy would tell her.

Dark Arts and Disagreements
Dennis was at once taken aback by the girl who was clearly his age calling him a child. His defenses were up and what’s more, she was Irish. He didn’t want to throw down but this girl was begging for it. “Oy! Child, we are the same age. And what experience have you with the dark arts hmm?” Dennis shot back, a smirk growing a cross his face. “Probably some ghost story your nana told you to keep you in line when you were misbehaving, yeah?”
Dennis sized up the girl with the child’s temper. She was about his height with curly hair and spoke in the most appalling accent that he couldn’t believe was still English. “I can’t believe you are in Ravenclaw with that attitude toward learning, lassy. If you had been paying attention in Defense against the Dark Arts, our professor said in the first lesson that dark magic is just magic used to harm people. Any spell can be considered dark if used of the wrong reasons.”
He was obviously now feeling superior. This girl didn’t have a wit as to what she was actually talking about. Time to correct some ignorance, he thought to himself. “Now, tell me again how I don’t know anything, Ms. Doesn’t-pay-attention-in-class. We should have practical experience against people who want to hurt us. Self-defense in a textbook isn’t really self-defense at all now is it?”
She finally asked him for his name. Typical Irish rudeness, that was. Accost someone before asking for introductions, never mind the fact that it was he who was interrupting. “Sorry, it sounded like you said, ‘what is your name?’ I think so. My name is Dennis, a proper Ravenclaw,” and by that he meant not Irish, “and who are you? Or do you prefer my nickname more?” He said, assuming he’d just stick to his nickname.

Dark Arts and Disagreements
Quinn looked at the boy in disgust. Some ghost story! Quinn thought with rage. Quinn tried not to explode and stared at the boy.
"A proper Ravenclaw!? What makes you think I'm not a proper Ravenclaw!" Quinn tried not to yell at the boy but he was just asking for it. This Dennis kid is so typicly Scottish. She thought angrily.
"My name is Quinn, and the only improper Ravenclaw here is you! Because you don't understand the dangers of dark arts." Quinn scowled at the boy.
Obviously Dennis had never encountered something remotly dark.
"Is your thought on dark arts just bad people in black cloaks waving there wands?" Quinn's voice was sufficently taunting.
Ha-nothing to say to that most likely. He most likely doesn't even know how to do defense against the dark arts and thinks the dark arts is easier. Quinn glared at the boy in front of her. His spiky red hair could definetly use a smoothing. Quinn thougth, annoyed.
"So Dennis, what makes you think that the dark arts is just a play thing, something anyone would use." Quinn wished that Dennis would stop being so insufriable.
Me dad would definetly aprove of me arguing with this boy. He would most likely challenge him to a fight. Not me though. Quinn shook her head to clear it of thoughts of her dad and thought back to the very annoying and dumb boy in front of her.
"Obviously you know nothing about the dark arts. How you got to be in Ravenclaw..." Quinn trailed off shaking her head. Quinn laughed maliciously in her head. Let's see how he takes that Quinn thought.

Dark Arts and Disagreements
“Oy, you need your ears cleaned out, girlie.” Dennis waved dismissively leaning forward with a derisive ugly smirk. “Or perhaps your English is rotten. I asked you a question about your nana.” He wouldn’t let her escape so easily. “It’s rude to disregard a proper question, unless you can’t understand the language of course or you are a Slytherin. I will accept either.”
This wasn’t the typical affable and lovable Dennis anymore. If this had gone any other way he would have shown any amount of compassion for the girl who was obviously scared and something had to have happened in her past to make her that way. Today, however, his disdain for both her heritage and her ignorance were palpable. He continued to dig in, “You even don’t listen when I clearly cite my sources from Professor Phelan. They aren’t a play thing, but you are too naive. You let fear cloud your judgement. If I were to cast a spell on you right now, that would be dark arts no matter how innocent the spell may be.”
His taunting smile turned dangerous at the threat. “I will say this in English even someone like you can understand. Knowledge is power. The fear of power is weakness. Ravenclaws fear no knowledge and therefore show no weakness.” Her empty diddles about not knowing and not belonging in Ravenclaw fell on deaf ears as Dennis felt he was well cited and her response was emotional.
“The sorting hat wasted a position in Ravenclaw on you obviously. Hogwarts is in Scotland, the proper home for knowledge. Go home,’ Dennis spat as he sidestepped the other Ravenclaw and continued down an adjoining corridor from the courtyard.

Dark Arts and Disagreements
Quinn was know extreamly annoyed, she wasn't her normal Quinn anymore. She had been pushed way to far by Dennis. Quinn scowled at Dennis. My english is perfect! She thougth angrily. Dennis didn't stop there though, he kept digging. He is saying I don't listen! I listen more then his pint sized brain could ever manage! Quinn was taken aback at Dennis's threat. Quinn felt her wand in her jeans and was ready to raise it if he so much as touched his wand.
"I'm more true of a Ravenclaw then you'll ever be!" Quinn shouted after Dennis. Quinn seethed with anger.
The jerk spits on the ground then acts like he's the king of ravenclaws. His scottish harritge is making him feel better then the rest of us. Quinn released her wand and stormed off toward anywere that Dennis wasn't. Quinn knew that Dennis was someone that she would see again. And not in a friendly manner. He will regret the day he ever insulted me. Quinn was barely suprised by her thoughts. Her ussualy sweet natured had vanished in front of Dennis. He wants to fight? I'll fight him! Quinn wondered when she would see the dillusinal ravenclaw next. Hopefully not in the common room. Quinn thought, annoyed that she had to share a house with him. Quinn sat down on a bench trying to calm herself down. It wouldn't work, thougths of Dennis's and her conversation kept popping up.
Quinn got up and started walking up the stairs to the common room. Maybe relaxing in her dorm room would help. As Quinn reached the common room door she checked to make sure Dennis wasn't around. He wasn't so Quinn walked in. Quinn relized that she had homework to do and she plopped down in front of the fireplace. Dennis hasn't seen the last of me.
