Closed Teachers and Honking daffodils POV - Dean Saunders

Books and friendships, January, Sunday Time 12.08
At a quick pace, Benjamin was starting to descend from the castle and onto the grounds surrounding it. ''That's the most brilliant idea I've had in at least a month,'' he proclaimed to himself, trying not to trip over his feet as he was close to running down steps with a small Trowel in his hand. Today was Sunday, and Benjamin had already finished his homework yesterday evening. This morning he had woken up with a weird feeling in his stomach a feeling of wanting to try to make up for his mistakes in Herbology class last week and maybe even earn Ravenclaw some house points.

At breakfast, he had gotten the clever idea to try to find some soil or some plants that might impress the teacher in Herbology; Benjamin didn't bring a pot as he thought it would be more clever to wait until he had at least found some plants, the sun was shining high on the sky, almost begging him to go exploring outside the Hogwarts grounds. Benjamin suddenly stopped running as he saw some yellow plants close by; Benjamin couldn't quite tell what kind they were from this distance; after a short while, he started going over to the yellow plants. As he got over to the plants, he stared at them briefly; they didn't look particularly magical as they were yellow and round. The plant also had a weird swirl around the neck, and the top was enormous, like a trumpet. He sat down on the ground and decided that this plant would be perfect for impressing a teacher; as he sat down, the plants started trumping, and he jumped backward from the shock, trying to escape the sudden noise.

''AH!'' he screamed, looking scared up on the yellow plants, as he remembered what his mom had told him about the trumpet plants, which, in other words, called Honking daffodils. They must've heard his motions on the ground and decided to surprise him because he wasn't paying enough attention to his surroundings. His pants and jacket were now partly full of mud, as it had rained a few days earlier, ''Typical,'' Benjamin said to himself, starting to make his way up on his feet again. Honking daffodils would be the perfect gift for the Herbology teacher; at home, his father gave his mother, who were typically quite stern flowers, which helped her mood. Herbology teachers couldn't be that much different, could they?

The honking may stop when he'd gotten the plant up from the ground; it was at least worth trying. Benjamin wasn't a quitter and didn't want to seem dull or like a nerd to everyone around him; Honking Daffodils was the perfect idea. Then he got down on his knees and put his Trowel on the ground as he started digging. The honking noises were getting louder and louder with every dig. ''Oh, be quiet, will you?'' he said trying to concentrate, sounding almost like his mother speaking to his father. The Honking daffodils was at this point trumpling like crazy.

January, early morning

The sun shone brightly as Dean made his way out onto the grounds, his steps light and quick. His hands, shoved in his pockets, held the treasures of breakfast: scones wrapped in soft towels for later, when he'd inevitably get hungry during his adventures.

When he'd first arrived, the grounds had probably been the most intimidating out of all the places at Hogwarts. The vast expanse of greenery seemed to be never-ending, continuing on and on like waves at sea. To his side, he could see the lake, little sparkles on its surface dancing with the wind, soft ripples cascading all over. There was also the Quidditch Pitch, his favourite place on earth besides his mother's kitchen, and then the dark forest, standing dark and gloomy farther down. The sun cast a golden hue over everything as if it'd been melted right onto the green.

He strolled leisurely, taking the now familiar scenery with a warm heart and a cold nose. He nestled himself into his scarf, the yellow thing wrapped around his neck just as his mother had taught him.

As he made his way to the vast expanse of plants littered over the grounds, his attention was caught. A fellow Hogwarts student, clearly embroiled in some kind of struggle. Dean's curiosity piqued, he made his way over, his steps quickening with each passing moment. Approaching the scene, Dean saw a Ravenclaw wrestling with what appeared to be a patch of Honking Daffodils. He couldn't suppress a grin at the sight as something akin to amusement began to sprout in his chest. The plants were notorious for their loud, trumpet-like noises, and it seemed the kid had found himself in the midst of their uproarious performance.

The sun, now a radiant orb high in the sky, cast a dappled pattern of light and shadow across the grounds, highlighting the chaotic dance between boy and plant. The daffodils, their petals vibrant yellow-like splashes of paint against the green canvas of the lawn, shook vigorously, each trumpet-like bloom emitting a cacophony of honks. The sound was reminiscent of a brass band gone rogue, each honk punctuating the air with a certain comic urgency.

Dean leaned against the sturdy trunk of a nearby tree, its bark rough under his palm. He felt the gentle breeze play through his hair, carrying with it the fresh, earthy scent of the grounds, mixed with the faintest hint of lake water. The scene before him was like a live painting, vibrant and dynamic. Or like a comedy. Something his mother would've loved, certainly. He grinned a little wider, soft sounds of rebuttal floating to his ears and after a few moments, Dean pushed himself off the tree, striding to the boy in need.

"Are you okay dude?" he asked, chuckling a little as he crouched down next to the Ravenclaw. He'd never had to deal with such plants before- his mother didn't have any and his father hated the noise of them. He'd really only seen them at friend's places or in books as a kid so this was quite a sight. "They're really loud, right?" he mumbled, poking a honking flower with his finger, giggling as it began it's song a little louder, as if offended. "I don't know how to help you but honestly this is kind of fun," he said, knocking elbows with the Ravenclaw before holding a hand out. "I'm Dean!" he shouted over the noise of the daffodils, his ears ringing a little.
