The woman made his blood boil sometimes. Moreso than anything else that plagued him in his life in recent years, the presence of the not only nosy but also 'superior' Eviana Verity was a pox upon his peace of mind. When not able to calm his frustrations by means of a book or by stargazing, the act of potioneering seemed to fulfill that purpose instead. There were so many potions to choose from, so many concoctions that could be made with materials both local and foreign. Many of the things that were needed for basic potions could be found either in his gardens or in the shallow parts of the woods, and those that he could not find in the bitter cold that was starting to settle over the Scottish highlands he could most certainly find in the apothecaries and alchemists of Diagon Alley.

After paging through one of a few of his potioneering books, Leonardo finally settled on the one that would distract his attention for the next two or three hours. It was good that it had a long brewing time, the Calming Draught, and it didn't hurt that its effects was particularly beneficial for a variety of circumstances. If good for nothing else, then good for his own mental well-being.

Mortar and pestle crushed the four sprigs of lavender and three petals from a chamomile flower into a highly fine powder--a process that took immense effort and time to ensure that not a single large chunk remained visible--and after this four measures of the resultant material were placed into the cauldron, followed quickly by a diced crocodile's heart. The cauldron was given a flame to heat it to a broil, but after a minute precisely that same flame was lowered with a dismissive wave of a chestnut wand into a comfortable medium warmth.

After cleaning out the mortar and pestle, now it was time for the three peppermint sprigs to have their turn at the grind. These were not as well ground as the chamomile and lavender, but it was medium bordering on fine by the end of it all. This was also added to the cauldron and the entire concoction was stirred five times counterclockwise before a light waving of the snallygaster-cored chestnut wand over it all.

Leonardo had found that for his personal method of brewing, the most ideal time to leave the potion on the brew in the gap of fifty minutes to an hour and a half was for around an hour and ten minutes or so. It was just long enough to allow the herbal parts of the concoction to 'steep' and the heart to cook, but it didn't allow either to turn soggy or overcook. After all, the potion would then have to be heated further on a lower flame: it would continue to steep and cook even at that lowest state and couldn't be allowed to be overdone.

Two mixtures of standard ingredient were added as Leonardo stirred thrice clockwise. A poppy's head, a beautiful flower though dried and shrivelled it was now, added to the now again cleaned mortar and pestle into a coarse grind so as not to damage the seeds useful to the function of the completed potion. Add it to the rest of the concoction, boil for two thirds of a minute, and then relinquish the heat. Thrice clockwise stir it, sweep the chestnut wand over the mixture, and the brew was complete and prepared for its two doses.

And not a moment too soon, for as the liquid was bottled the witch strode through his door.

Leonardo had always thought that this potion was particularly curious in nature, and that it had the potential to be quite helpful if not powerful in a pinch if utilized the right way. While he was not of the profession involving such information-gathering matters, it was a potion that had other uses just as helpful as being used professionally in such a way. Say, for instance, if he wanted to keep an eye on Dante from far away... even if only for five minutes...

The cauldron was cold enough to be sure, the middle of winter it was. In went the strongly-scented ethanol along with billywig stings. These would have to steep for an hour, but that didn't mean that there wasn't something else he could do to prepare the potion in the meanwhile. African red pepper and cranberry extract. The pepper was to be ground up with a mortar and pestle, finely at that. When content with the powder's consistency (even as the dryness and the spice of it made the Seer's eyes watered ever so slightly), the cranberry extract was introduced to it and mixed thoroughly together.

Macbeth twittered about, excitable as ever as twilight closed in and night nearly announced his time to start hunting. Leonardo's cloak swished about the small cottage in an anxious pace as he ran hands through his black hair with slightly wild silvery eyes. The mixture was complete, but now he had nothing to do with himself as he waited for the billywig and the ethanol to steep together. "It's for a good reason, Macbeth. I just don't know what happens when she up and vanishes like this." His hissed to his companion as the owl perched on his shoulder. "This is a measure of security, of monitoring. I don't know what she's up to or what is being concocted behind closed doors, and Dante..." Of all his concerns, it was with his son that it laid the most. His fingers twitched unconsciously as if searching for a shot glass. "He's my son, after all. A Chiadovini no matter how much I despise that name, and he is not to be used as a pawn for her ends. I need him out of her hands as soon as possible... but how?" He rapped his fingernails on his teeth for a moment before rounding suddenly back on the potion again. "Clever, clever... think of something clever. You were accused of murder once, certainly you're capable of something much more subtle and less ostentatious..."

The cauldron was offered low heat as the pepper and cranberry extract were added to it. It would simmer for twelve minutes now. "A scandal would be too much, and blackmail is useless for someone in my position. I'm being choked by a wire and racked out by a ribbon.

Snick, slick, szzip... boomslang skin and bouncing bulbs were thinly sliced into fine strips. "Observation is a good place to start if nothing else. I need to figure out what is going on with something other than these... these ill-tidings." He shot a venomous glare towards the remains of his coffee and the sediment within it: the cat's head... He leered at it. "Don't scream too loudly at me, will you? Swords and snakes..."

Leonardo was left handed, so as he stirred the tonic counterclockwise seven times he sprinkled the thin strips of skin and bulbs into the concoction with his right. With a flourish of chestnut the flames rose and encourage the cauldron to a boil, enabling faint mists to rise. The grim Seer held a fresh white daisy over the pot, his head tipped ever so slightly as his brows knit in concentration. One by one, the petals fluttered from his fingers and into the drink. "She loves me, she loves me not... she loathes me, she loathes me not... she loves me..." One by one until the last petal was ripped from its stalk, leaving the center of the once fresh flower bare and cold. "She loves me not. Well, what else is new." He scoffed with a forced smile of knowing. Into the drink went the final petal.

The fire was extinguished, and chestnut swept over the concoction to seal the magic within. Two large bottles were prepared, and they were filled with the hot potion fresh from the cauldron. "Five minutes, eh?" The grey-eyed Chiadovini raised a brow as he contemplated the liquid swirling in its new home. "A lot can happen in five minutes. It'll be long enough."

It was an old rhyme, the making of the potion that allowed the eldest male heir of the Chiadovini family to slip into a black and peaceful sleep devoid of disturbing dreams, nightmares, or paralysis-inducing prophesies that struck when unexpected via those conduits. The potion had a reputation for being highly addictive if not used in a responsible way, indeed Leonardo knew well the slight tug of withdrawal that overcame him ever so slightly when a particularly dreadful week was finished and he had to dedicate time to purchasing and brewing the potion to save for another 'rainy day' of the sort. Still... his hands were adept, and his methods highly refined after decades of practice in brewing the Potion of Dreamless Sleep.

While the pot heated, Leonardo wasted no time in severing the head of the sinuously writhing creature. It had had the misfortune of finding itself partially torn up by Macbeth and left mostly dead before Leonardo had stunned it and then decided that it was best to put it out of its misery and make it into good use in the brewing of Dreamless Sleep. Sever the head, remove the fangs with locking forceps in a smooth yet firm single motion, slice the critter from neck to tail in order to deflesh it totally from its smooth muscle, gut it with a pair of fingers in another careful yet firm movement (slicing the top and bottom of the digestive tract made this much easier as well). Having placed these discardable parts aside, what came next was to clean the meat and bone of the remaining serpent in cool water and wash away all remaining blood. It wouldn't do to taint the potion with its blood: it would lead to tainted dreams.

Hands covered in serpent blood, Leonardo took to stripping the meat from the bone with a careful scalpel. Tonight he had kept his mind clear and devoid of spirits, the better to concentrate and ensure that he was brewing with conciseness and clarity. Still, that didn't prevent his lips from moving soundlessly, reciting this and thats of poetry and plays. Thin, yet not paper thin, he sliced each piece of raw snake meat. This would have to be imbibable, after all. It wouldn't do to have chunks of snake going down with the rest of the concoction when the time came to strain it out, even if its most delightful ingredient had yet to be added for flavor and for function. When contented with the size of the slices, he poured the mess into the heated pot, scraping every last morsel in and waiting for the smell of frying to lift into the air around him. It did well to ensure a visual inspection as well; Leonardo had found that the most effective time to add the wine to the mixture was when the meat was caramel and hedging on sepia. The meat would boil along with the wine, that way, and be cooked entirely.

Uncorking the decanter, the Seer fluttered the lip of the bottle under his nose for a moment, scenting the ruby red wine familiar and cursed to him. For all the brands, for all the names, only one kind of wine had produced results that he had been happy with: his family's notorious brand of Vino di Vini. The fruity yet acrid tinge floated through the air, enough to intoxicate, enough to evoke shadows of a vision. Despite himself, the man drank of the bottle once before emptying it into the pot, coughing a bit at the dryness of it.

While waiting for the concoction to boil slightly, the Seer took to harshly chopping up sage, sure to allow every square inch of the plant exposure to the eventual potion. While he was no professional potioneer in any sense of the word, he had enough of a mind for the occult and divination to know that sage warded away the evils of a troubling night. This was, to say experimentally, the part of the potion that did the function of the 'dreamless' aspect.

The cauldron bubbled ever so slightly, and the Seer lowered the flame with a condescending wave of his chestnut wand before taking one of the more precious ingredients he had on hand--unicorn hairs--and sprinkled four of them on the surface of the wine and serpent concoction. Purity... innocence...

He covered the pot with its lid after stirring the concoction twice clockwise and then retreated from the kitchen. It needed time to simmer. Twenty minutes to be precise, as the Chiadovini checked his heirloom watch and noted the placement of the minute hand. It was midday lingering towards evening. Twenty minutes: long enough to snatch a few pages of Don Juan after he had washed his hands of snake's blood, at least...

Book still in hand as he returned back to the kitchen, the Seer lifted the pot's lid and proceeded to brush the chopped sage in. This accomplished, another ten minutes exactly had to be killed before he could proceed with the next steps of brewing. This time he leaned against the counter during his wait, enthralled by his readings. With a sigh as ten minutes elapsed at last, the Seer bookmarked his page with a black ribbon and returned to his work, removing the lidded pot and placing a well-sized cauldron onto the flames instead. It would need to heat while is counterpart cooled enough to be strained. When cool enough to handle, Leonardo placed a vegetable strainer inside of the cauldron that would receive the nearly completed potion and then carefully poured the contents into it evenly so that no liquids would be trapped but no meat would mingle with the final substance. An additional light pressure with careful fingertips permitted the last of the juice to unite with the rest of the potion to be made.

With an addition of two billywig stings and the two saved snakefangs that he had put aside earlier, the stirrer went thrice counterclockwise to be followed up with a wave of magic from his wand swishing over the top of the cauldron. Now the time was truly pertinent, enough so that the Seer checked even the second hand of the clock so that he would time the moment he would have to remove the cauldron from the heat. This was the most vital part of the brewing; to make an error here would be to spoil the entire brew. Seventeen minutes exactly, no more and certainly no less.

Vegetable strainer in hand, the Seer strode outside. Glancing about for a moment, he tossed the meat from the strainer as far from his home as he could. A few additional shakes of the implement to rid it of the worst of the largest chunks, and he was satisfied. A chorus of croaks and caws replied to his action, and the pallid Seer smiled tightly before he departed the dark corvids and their dinner scraps. "Take care not to intoxicate yourselves, friends. Share politely."

Perfectionist in every sense of the word, Leonardo counted down the seconds until exactly seventeen minutes had passed, immediately adding to the brew the petals of a Black Baccara rose--a flower that he carefully tended and harvested when they were in bloom and took great pains to preserve when the first frosts began to ice the grounds so that their descendants would return. He extinguished the heating flames. The rose petals floated on the surface of the red wine potion for a few minutes before succumbing to their absorption of the concoction and gradually submerging entirely.

Chestnut waved over the cauldron one more time with a surge of arcane energy... and it was prepared for bottling into the three prepared crystal bottles, ready to be used for their 'rainy days'.

Muttering lightly to himself as the night wore thick and heavy towards the dawn, the pallid Seer's pale eyes flicked back and forth at the ingredients and cauldron that he had cleaned for what he felt must have been hundreds if not thousands of times by now. He had not slept a wink all night so far, and he didn't feel that such a condition would change anytime soon. And if he was going to be doomed to suffer from one of his unfortunate streaks of insomnia, surely he was better off doing something with himself as opposed to doing nothing at all.

So this was why he had roused himself from his bed after staring sightlessly into the darkness for likely hours on end, had lit a candle for vision for he would need his wand in the brewing of a late-night and early morning potion. An... early Christmas gift, actually. His son, now one year of age... he wasn't sure what to get such a small child for a present, being so young that the little boy probably didn't quite understand the concept of gift-giving yet... he only understood what his eyes could see and what his mind could piece together, most likely.

And despite what others may have thought of the ominous Seer, he... he did want to in some way be supportive and to be that father figure that he had so desperately craved in his youth. He wanted to spend time with Dante, to teach him things that would help him later in his life either in academia or in hobby... and perhaps stargazing was a good place to start.

Beheading three Black Baccara roses, the Seer stripped all three heads of their petals whilst he allowed his basic cauldron to heat to a medium-low temperature. By the time he had finished depetaling the roses, the cauldron was ready to receive its own first ingredients. Shadowed eyes took in one hand a bottle of his family wine Vino di Vini and the other a highly pricy bottle of dragon's blood. The entire 8 ounces of blood was added along with the remaining 8 ounces of Vini that remained from some previous brewings of the Chiadovini.

Hand trembling ever so slightly, though this was nothing new for the past year or so since Leonardo's drinking habits had dramatically gotten out of hands, he fumbled for a large wooden stirring spoon and stirred the concoction of blood and wine clockwise thrice. This was a potion he relatively knew by heart; it was a fancy of his to brew this on occasion when he had the spare change for it. It produced such a soothing atmosphere, after all.

"A measure of silver powder... two measures of mysterious blue powder..." His voice nearly fully lacked a volume behind it, more of a whistling whisper than an evocation of the English language. He recited these as he carefully swept them into the cauldron, then proceeded to stir six more times clockwise to ensure proper mixing. The silver twinkled in the reddish mixture, though the blue powder now altered its color from vermilion to indigo... and then into an aubergine close to that of the twilit skies just before the stars lowered their uplifted eyes to the world below. "Six times around the clock, and then simmer for 2 turns of the minute's hand..." His voice was almost cavernous in the silence of his home, despite the occasional creak of wood beams as wind groaned outdoors. "Sprinkle it with rose's petals and then another five turns of the hand." Black Baccara petals were scattered into the cauldron, and then the Seer turned instead to the star grass whilst brandishing a cutting knife.

No precise cuts were needed on the star grass, just rough hews here and there. Enough to allow it to steep into the potion but not dissociate entirely into it. At the conclusion of five minutes, the grass was added, and then stirred... "Thrice opposed to the clock, simmer for thirteen turns." Leonardo rubbed his eyes, grimacing ever so slightly as he felt his concentration waver ever so slightly. "Snow drop stems..." He checked his fobwatch. "Ah... thirteen minutes to three, how serendipitous."

Remove the stems of four snow drops from their flowers. Thirteen minutes later, add them to the brew and reduce the heat to low. No overdoing the brewing now. Nearly finished. "Nearly complete, at least in its initial aspects." The exhausted baritone wavered in contemplation. "Three minutes after half past now, and it will be ready for aging."

And so it was. Three minutes past three in the morning the Seer drained four doses of the unaged Starry Sky Solution into four similar-looking bottles shaped like little crystalline stars. A Christmas present for his son that would, if he had done his math well enough in his exhausted insomniac state, be ready before that date. He would keep them secured and stored in the meanwhile, though. Safe, secure from hands and eyes.

And now... perhaps... perhaps now he could sleep. Even if only for a wink.

Potion: Sleeping Draught

It was a harebrained scheme, but it was just harebrained enough to work in Piérre's honest opinion. The stories about the strange man that his brother had spoken about, this "Gitano Luca Vero" that was so unsavory and yet such a figure of mystique that struck too close to home, was someone that Piérre had to learn more about. With enough reasonable cause to believe that this man was somehow a key in trying to unlock the secrets of their parentage that had been Romeo's mission to uncover for a few years now, Piérre was determined to help him in whatever way possible. This plan to help came in the form of a very cheeky and very off the wall idea that in other situations could result in disaster and potentially arrest...

But Piérre didn't plan on being arrested. Not yet, anyways.

The plan was very simple, and it required the use of a Sleeping Draught in order for it to work. Simply put: Piérre planned to walk in, find some method of administering the potion, wait until the man fell asleep from the effect (hopefully), and then yoink some blood for paternity test purposes before hightailing it out of there. It was simple, almost idiot-proof, and (at least in Piérre's own mind) going to be a lot of fun once he convinced Romeo and Valentin to join him and help support his cause. That was the next step, though, a problem to worry about for another day. Therefore, the first thing to do was to make the potion first and then to convince his comrades later.

Scattering the ingredients across the Gryffindor common room, Piérre assessed his brand new chemistry set, a gift from Valentin that Christmas when he had come to stay with the Wendigo-Marchonnés for the season. It had everything he needed for making most simple potions, including a few basic ingredients and places to store them. Lavender, standard ingredient, flobberworm mucus, valarian sprigs, gillyweed... very simple ingredients that were very useful for the purposes of the potion he was making: a Sleeping Draught.

Ladling two blobs of flobberworm mucus and two measures of standard ingredient into his school cauldron, Piérre took four sprigs of lavender and and two more measures of standard ingredient and began to crush them up rigorously with mortar and pestle with the help of finely grained powder sand (he had found that grinding it all up in this way helped to get a finer quality to the end grind and would use a coffee filter to ensure that none of that nasty sand ended up in the actual drink). After a gentle heating of the cauldron for thirty seconds, Piérre did just as he said he would and used a coffee filter to measure out three measures of the pestle product into the cauldron. After reaching wildly for his yew wand that was a meter away from him or so, he waved it over the concoction and made to begin on the next step towards the potion's completion.

While the potion was stewing for... seventy minutes was it? The boy worked on the paperwork for his actual potions class (the theory and the like), and then began to brainstorm his next ilicit venture into Reaganomics' potion storeroom. He had beneficiaries he had to pay off, after all... he would also eventually have to sneak into that Death Wing too... to grab a hypodermic needle...

That wouldn't be too difficult. The Britalian was confident he would be able to slip beneath the radar in his own ways. It would be easy, in and out. It was the practice drawing blood with the needle he was more concerned about... but he was sure he would figure it out from just common knowledge and his own experience with having his blood drawn. It looked easy enough, he could even maybe test it on himself. What was the worst that could happen? He had magic, after all, and healing from such a little prick from Episkey would be stupidly easy with the level of skill he was at in spellcasting nowadays.

Anywho... seventy minutes later, the boy was ready to finish the second half of the potion.

Add two measures of standard ingredient, heat highly with the help of a magically coaxed Incendio Duo for a minute, add four valerian sprigs, and then stir seven times clockwise. Easy enough! Take the gillyweed, rip its head off, and put the head in the cauldron. With Figaro meowing lightly over his shoulder, Piérre smiled lightly with a twinkle in his green eyes and then stirred the concoction three times in the conterclockwise direction. The kitty would have to be fed soon, Piérre hadn't forgotten...

With a heightening of the flames, Piérre brought the mixture to a boil and allowed it to remain for thirty 'Mississippi' counts before lowering it again after waving his wand over the mixture. When the completed potion was cool enough to handle, he ladled it into two small-ish phials that could easily fit into even a shallow pocket. He would need it to stay in his clothes after all... especially if he had to pull out his animagus form at any point during this Blood Heist...

Liam raised his eyebrow at Colin. "Are you sure you want to do this, brev? You know what happened last time we ---"

Last time.

Colin groaned inwardly. Last time he wished he had some bruise removal paste. How hard could making a confusing concoction really be?

"Cail, I mean ---"

"I know what you mean lad!" He rolled his eyes at Liam. "But look. I've been studying this real hard! And the team needs it. Badly!"

Liam nodded, smirking, his green eyes twinkling. "Ye do need it, that's true! You know Ravenclaw are going to murder the lot of you!" Liam could never pass up the opportunity to insert a witty pun if he had the chance. "Just like last time!"

"Liam! I---"

"And the time before that!" Liam said cheerily.

"I---"

"And the time before that, as I recall. Oh wait!" He gave Colin a solid stare and a sharp jab to his ribs. "You Viridian Baslisks have never actually won a race, have ye?"

"Liam!"

"I mean, maybe ye should rename yer team to the Brutally Battered Boas or something?" He snorted. Colin grimmaced. "Alright, let's get this done, so A can get thee to hospital."

Colin shook his head. He wasn't going to let Liam's sharp tongue get him down. No, Colin was determined to actually successfully brew this potion! And it was true that the Brisk Basilisks needed it. Racing was a tough sport, and one could expect to land in hospital even if your team did win!

Right. Colin nodded. Time to get this done. He laid out everything on one of the large black soapstone work benches. Battered and much repaired No 2 tin cauldron. He often wondered if a better cauldron might not melt down so easily. Well, nothing for it today. Maybe he'd ask Ma to send a better one along.

"Ye know lad, ye really should ask Ma for a better cauldron. That dinky toy of yers is better suited as a tea cup! I'd recommend a copper cauldron, because how long do we have to heat this stuff?"

"Ten minutes," Colin replied.

"Ten minutes. I dare say yer pot will melt! Do ye have all yer ingredients?"

"Right. I'm not gonna stick it in the fire without stuff in it! And it's not going to melt --- it won't be that hot!" Colin shot Liam a look of exasperation. "Of course I have me ingredients! What kind of dolt wouldna bring those along!"

Out of his satchel, Colin pulled a variety of bottles and boxes and set them out on the wide bench top. Then he got out his spurtle and potions book. It was full of neat notes. Liam glanced at the book. "Look, not all the notes are about Clair, okay! Right. Here we go: we need 3 Murtlap Tentacles, a Jar of Honey, two Measures of Bubotuber Pus, yum, 6 Seashells, 2 Measures of Flobberworm Mucus, also yum." Liam got out a small set of spoons from Colin's satchel and laid them out on the table.

The boys looked at each other. They smirked in unison. Their eyes twinkled at each other. "Wait. We need something else!" Colin said.

Their smirks turned to wicked smiles.

"FIRE!!"

They went over to the cupboard and got one of the medium sized burners down. And a few small containers to hold ingredients while they were working. Once Colin had the burner and his cauldron all set up he began work. First, he set his cauldron on the ring and set the fire to medium. He laid his pocket watch on the table so he check the time. He'd have to let it heat for ten minutes.

Once the cauldron was nice and warm, the hard work began. Colin's brow sweated slightly. He bit his lower lip. He wondered when the whole thing would explode in his face. He glanced at Liam. Liam was reading a poem he had written about Clair. It wasn't even on the bruise removal paste page! "Liam! Put it back on the right page! How many Bundimun Leaves!? I---!"

"Easy lad! You've got this! Just think about Clair. She's excellent with potions. Naturally! Just let her excellence flow into you! Be one with Clair!"

Colin smirked. He hadn't yet told his twin about the binding mark.

He calmed himself down. Liam was right. Colin had studied and memorised this potion. "Right. Four Murtlap --- no. Three Murtlap Tentacles, please, sir!"

Liam picked three slimy tentacles out of the little vial and laid them on a small dish, handing it to Colin. "Three Murtlap Tentacles, SAH!"

Colin felt better about this. He'd caught his error in time. "Honey, please!"

"Honey, my love!" Liam replied. Colin smiled. He held the little jar of warm honey over the cauldron and watched as it --- ever so slowly --- flowed into the cauldron. Liam took the empty jar, dropped a spoon into it and set it aside.

"Okay. Now to stir. And five shall be the number thou shalt stir, and the number of the stirring shall be five!" Spurtle in hand, he gave the potion five clockwise stirs. Aon -- Dà -- Trì -- Ceithir -- Sia!"

"Còig sir! Six be right out!"

"Còig! ( 1 ) There! That's stirred. Right, now---"

"Cail!! CAIL!! Yer cauldron's melting! Look there!"

"What!? Oh crap!" Indeed, the top lip of his cauldron seemed to be wobbling a bit. Colin started panicking. He couldn't just throw water all over it, the burner would just blow it off as steam! Colin slipped his wand out of its holster. He blanked for a moment, then pointed it at the cauldron. "Arresto Momentum!" His wandwork was solid, as it flicked in the shape of an M.

"That was an interesting choice, Cail! Well," he said as he poked the lip of the cauldron with his own wand. "Nicely played --- for a Snakey Boy!"

"Hey! That was top pocket reasoning! I was thinking of immobulus, but that might've hit the potion too. Alright, let's get this off the heat for a bit!" Colin tapped the burner, shutting off the flame and began the work of adding the other ingredients. He checked the cauldron closely. "You know what, I don't think it's melted. I think it was just wobbly a bit. It looks okay now!"

"Two ounces of Bubotuber Pus, please!"

"Rightcheware, sah! Two ounces of Hoggy's finest Bubotuber Pus, freshly expelled from the Best Bubotuber!" They boys watched as that bit of yuck slid out of its container and plopped into the steamy, forming potion. Colin grasped the spurtle again and stirred, thrice anticlockwise. He set the fire to low and tapped the burner again. It lit up nicely. Colin waved his wand confidently over the potion. The magic began to take hold, but wasn't quite ready yet.

"Right! Now we wait an hour! Oo! Let's crush up the sea shells Liam!"

The boys got out mortar and pestle, and whilst the potion simmered, they crunched up the shells and merrily sang songs together.

Three craws sat upon a wa, sat upon a wa, sat upon a wa - a - a - a!
Three craws sat upon a wa on a cauld an frosty mornyn!

The furst craw cud ne flee at aa, cud ne flee at aa, cud ne flee at aa - aa - aa!

The furst craw cud ne flee at aa, on a cauld an frosty mornyn!

The second craw wes greetin fer his Ma, greetin fer his Ma, greetin fer his ma - a - a!
The second craw wes greetin fer he Ma on a cauld an frosty mornyn!

The thurd craw fell an broke his jaw, fell an broke his jaw, fell and broke his jaw - aw -aw!

The thurd craw fell an broke his jaw on a cauld an frosty mornyn!

The furth craw wes ne there at a!

Colin and Liam pounded the sea shells, all six of them, in time with the music. After that, they still had to wait a good forty five minutes for the potion to simmer. That they spent chatting about girls and brooms all the neat places they'd found out on the grounds or in the castle. Colin listened in rapt attention as Liam talked about his own adventures the last few months. He'd found places Colin had never even heard of, and he wanted to go exploring with Liam, just like they did first year!

"Alright," Colin said at last. "Time to add the sea shell powder!"

"Three pinches mate!"

Colin tipped the powder in, then called for: "Two measures of Flobberworm Mucus!"

"Two measures of the slimiest mucus ever!"

"Hey!" Colin cried dodging the spoon full of mucus that was headed right for his mouth! "That lot doesn't go anywhere near my mouth! Tip it into the cauldron you wank!"

The boys laughed, and Colin stirred the potion occasionally. The potion thickened up nicely and soon looked ready to put into a container! Colin waved his wand and tapped the burner to shut it off. He noticed that his cauldron looked a little different than usual. He pointed that out to Liam, and his brother scrutinised the poor thing as the potion cooled. His brow furrowed. Several fine lines had appeared in the blackened finish. Colin shrugged. After a while, he delicately touched the cauldron. It was definitely cooler.

"Cail."

"What is it Liam? It looks ready now!"

"Cail."

Colin picked up the cauldron by its handle. It felt kind of weird. Springy almost.

"Cail! It's going ---"

"Aye it's going right into that jar now that it's cooled off!" Colin grabbed the spurtle and used it to tip the cauldron! Liam began shouting! He pointed frantically!

"CAIL! It's cracked! Yer cauldron has a crack in it!"

"What!?" A crack!? That could ruin the potion for certain if it spilled all over everything! Colin used his spurtle to nudge the cauldron. The bruise paste oozed into the jar! Colin felt an exhilaration! But he also realised now that his cauldron really did feel rather weird, and it wasn't round any more! It was --- it was. Colin's eyes flew open! Liam's eyes opened wide too and just as the last of the paste plopped into the jar, he turned and pulled Colin away with him, grabbing him around his waist! "YEEEEP! THAT TICKLES YOU GIT!"

With a sad little tearing sound, Colin's poor battered cauldron had dropped onto the cool table top and broke into several shiny pieces of tin! Residual droplets and blobs of bruise paste spattered around the work bench and onto Colin's potions book. When they looked back to the bench top, there was a mess of tangled metal --- a former cauldron. The handle was still intact, more or less, and parts of the rim, where it was reinforced. But the rest had fallen apart at the cracks!

Colin sighed at the carnage.

Liam tisked. "Welp, should've used a copper cauldron."

"Aye, but A'm not giving up yet!"

"Is that even repairable, I wonder! It's all over the place! "

Colin smirked. "There's one way to find out!" Liam smirked. That was so true! Wands out once again, the pair gathered up all the splattered blobs of metal, repaired the handle and then cast Reparo on the heap of tin chips. Colin loved to magic at work! All the little tin chips began to swirl around, their edges softening and melting. They fused together in a tiny whirl of silvery grey! And at last, the handle was caught up in the magic, becoming fused again to the now rather new looking No 2 cauldron.

"I'd say she'll be good for another go before she explodes again!" Liam quipped.

As they sealed up the jar of bruise paste and put everything away, Colin got to wondering. "Liam. What do you suppose would happen --- I mean, if we took something made from metal, right, and broke it, then reparoed it, it would be fixed. But, what if we broke it, melted it down, and then made something else with the metal, and then broke that. Would reparo return it to the second thing, or the first thing?"

Liam seemed to ponder that question. His Ravenclaw intelligence and Colin's Slytherin cunning were clearly cooking up a cunning plan to resolve the issue! But that will be an adventure for another day!

Potion | Turbo Farts Potion [Turbo Farts Potion Info]
Ingredients required | 2 measures of Unidentified Blue Powder, 2 Troll Whiskers, 4 Sopophorus Beans, 2 bunches of Peppermint, 8 fl. oz. of Horklump Juice, 3 Bursting Mushrooms

Roleplay (200 words min) |

The man had a plan today. Sure, it was still winter break and he had other things to do. He had to alleviate the thought of Joseph's death from his mind. If a cheap laugh could help, why not make a cheap laugh happen? That said, Octavius (instead of brewing the potion in the bathroom like he had previously) walked down to the basement and got a regular cauldron. But before he could do anything, the room needed some light.

Octavius pulled the hanging lightbulb to turn it on. "Where's my notes..." He asked absentmindedly, looking on the ground rapidly. Once he laid eyes on it, he opened it up and put his wand in the middle of the book in where he could save his place easily.

He had all the ingredients for this particular potion saved on the shelf, more specifically the top shelf, so his goblin son couldn't obtain it unless he was smart enough to figure out how to use Wingardium Leviosa to his own advantage. All he had to do now was just follow the instructions to the notes he had taken.

"8 fluid ounces. Cool. Horklump juice." Walking over to the shelf he took the vial of Horklump Juice and began to measure it into a measuring cup. He wasn't doing this by eye, he wasn't wanting anyone to get explosive diarrhea that probably wouldn't stop for days instead of what the potion was intended to do, give you turbo farts. Once the measurement was achieved carefully, he dumped it into the cauldron, which wasn't heated yet.

The next ingredient on the list was Unidentified Blue Powder, which obviously was probably a known item but just marked as 'Unidentified Blue Powder' because they don't want people making or mass producing something of theirs because you had to make it somehow so its not entirely unknown.

Two measures of the Unidentified Blue Powder was added to the cauldron.

Now, he stirred the cauldron for 70 seconds until he watched the blue powder partially dissolve with the water/horklump juice liquid. Now that the stirring was done, he raised the heat to low-medium.

Once again, he continued to stir. 120 seconds passed and the blue powder finally disintegrated.

The heat got turned up to medium-high and with that done, he now had to obtain his peppermint and roughly chop them. The notes he took specifically stated 'two bunches' of the peppermint so he might as well do just that.

Roughly chopping the greens, he added it to the cauldron. Now he needed to let it simmer for (12m) 720 seconds.

He might as well do something otherwise he'd be bored out of his mind. He took note of the time of the start of allowing the simmering process on an orange alarm clock (mechanical), and when it became 7:20pm (meaning it was 7pm when he allowed it to simmer), he would be able to move on.

Not that he was going to do anything different asides from continuing his brewing process. "Sopophorous Beans." He stuttered saying 'sopophorous' "WHO in the hell named these things? Gosh just name them magical beans for hell's sake." Regardless, he put the Beans into the mortar and began to crush it into what he deemed a thick paste of a sort. Now he got to use his knife, which was probably the best thing he could've used in the brewing of this.

He pressed on the blade of the knife, crushing the Bursting Mushrooms on the other side of the blade (via the flat of the blade).

He looked at the clock. Only a minute left and crushing two ingredients took 11 minutes? Cool, at least now he could just say they were done correctly.

Then finally the minute hand moved. It was now 7:20pm. Octavius would now dump the paste and mushrooms that he had previously turned into paste and had crushed into the cauldron. Stirring three times counter clockwise, he hummed to himself a small song in the tune of 'Twinkle Twinkle Little Star.'

[Verse]
Twisted goblin, chaos bringer
Causing hell when night is lingered (linger)
In the dark, his laughter gleams
Evil deeds, his twisted dreams (oh-yeah)

[Chorus]
Twinkle, twinkle, little star
How I wonder what you are
Up above the world so high
Like a goblin, in the sky (goblin music intensifies)

Twinkle, twinkle, little star
Now the chaos spreads afar
Goblin's laughter fills the night
Sparks of darkness, burning bright (ooh-ooh)

Twinkle, twinkle, little star
Goblin watches from afar
Bringing chaos, causing plight
In the chaos, he takes delight (ooh-yeah)

Awesome, stirring completed. Now he needed to reduce the heat and cover the cauldron. He turned the heat down to low and pretty much covered the cauldron. But now, it was about 7:22pm, so by the time it was 7:52pm, he could finish it. Why not make sure the crystal vials were clean in the meantime?

He took three vials off of the shelf and walked upstairs into the kitchen, seeing a muggle neighbor walking his dog and taking a glance through the window. He waved with a feigned smile on his face. Right, time to ensure cleanliness. Octavius scrubbed the interior and exterior of the vials, washing it out and rinsing it thoroughly.

He walked downstairs with the three vials drying them manually. He saw that there was still about 20 minutes left.

Five minutes passed and he had dried the vials. That left 15 minutes. Why not look at some family pictures and cut out the ones Joseph was in? He couldn't mess with their scrapbooks but he could mess with the pictures that he had never given a home asides from the interior of a box in where he dumped photos (photo dump box).

He tore the pictures that had Joseph in it, tearing the picture so that his dead ex husband wasn't in any of his family's pictures. It wasn't like Joseph cared, he was a stingy man, so why make others suffer for his stupidty? He continued tearing Joseph out until it it became 7:52pm.

Octavius took the cover to the cauldron off and waved his wand to complete it. Now that it was complete he could transfer it into the vials but his notes specifically told him to be responsible and cover his nose and mouth. He still had the mask from the covid19 pandemic hanging up off of the shelf in the case he had to blend in in the muggle world if he had to go out there again. But this was an effective use in his opinion.

He put the mask on and filled the crystal vials with the potion. And tada, the Turbo Farts Potion was complete!

Potion | Swelling Solution
Ingredients required | 2 Scoops of Dried Nettles, 3 Pufferfish Eyes, Water, 1 Bat Spleen

Roleplay (200 words min) |
Reducio
Dee hummed lightly as she scooped two spoons of dried nettles into the small stone bowl, then counted three eyes of a pufferfish on top before she picked up the pestle and got to grinding. There was a small, mischievous glint in her eyes - the amount of silliness one could get up with a few drops of swelling solution was significant, but she had special plans for this batch.

Once appropriately crushed, she glanced at her potions book, kept open to the appropriate page with her wand between the pages, before she spooned two measures of the powder into her cauldron, then carefully let two tablespoons of water drip into the powder, before carefully stirring it into a paste.

A quick spell took care of the fire, and she regulated it back to medium heat before noting down the time and leaving it to brew for twenty minutes.

There was nothing to do in that time, but it was also not enough to leave and get something else done, so she cleaned the mortar and pestle carefully, started collecting the ingredients for her next potion, then stared at the clock, tapping her fingers impatiently until the time was up. A glance into the cauldron told her there was some more water in order, which she carefully stirred in, then picked up her wand from the book's pages once again to give the potion the nudge of magic it would need to continue brewing.

The fourty-seven minutes after were enough to stop by the Great Hall for a quick dinner, and when she returned, it was time to drop one single bat spleen, smaller than the nail of her little finger, into the cauldron. The four counterclockwise stirs followed at a measured pace, then she further reduced the heat to low for half a minute - seconds counting down - and finished the potion with a last quick gesture from her wand.

It would require another week and a half before it was ready, but the work was done.

Potion | Deflating Draught
Ingredients required | 2 Measures of Honey, 3 Peppermint Leaves, 1 Shrivelfig, 1 bundle of Fluxweed (3 sprigs), 2 measures of Scarab Beetles

Roleplay (200 words min) |
Reducio
With her ingredients already prepared, Dee figured she could get this second potion done in under an hour - so with time to spare for curfew. Professor Regan had roller her eyes at her and told her to lock up after, and Dee had just grinned and given a mock salute before turning back to her brewing.

The honey was already pre-measured, and she scraped it into the cauldron before turning the fire on with quick fingers, regulating it down to a steady, low flame. Three peppermint leaves fluttered into the cauldron next, adding freshness to the sweet scent of the heating honey.

The fifteen minute wait after was easily enough to cut a shrivelfig into small, even cubes, although she made a note to sharpen her knife soon, before it became too blunt for the precision potions sometimes required. After adding the shrivelfig into her mixture, Dee stirred it patiently, clockwise, until it had turned into a smooth liquid, no trace of the shrivelfig cubes left to disturb the even surface.

Next in went a bundle of fluxweed, as it was; no preparation needed here, it just required three counterclockwise stirs to incorporate, and then some additional time while she crushed two measures of scarab beetles into a fine paste.

That paste was the last ingredient she needed, and she scraped it into the cauldron, then got to cleaning up the clutter that seemed to naturally spread whenever she was focused on following the potions steps while the mixture simmered.

Nineteen minutes later, the potion only required a small dose of magic, delivered with a wave of her wand, to be finished - with a quick glance at the clock, Dee realised she had to hurry, and almost burnt her fingers filling the deflating draught into vials.

She did remember to lock up after herself before she raced up from the dungeons to the Ravenclaw dorms. Quite a workout, but she was used to it.

Potion | Memory Potion
Ingredients required | 8 fluid ounces of purified water, 1 Joberknoll Feather, 5 ounces of a Stewed Mandrake, 3 Sprigs of Sage, 3 Sprigs of Snow Drops

Roleplay (200 words min) |
Reducio
At fifteen and a half years old, Dee was hardly at an age in which her recollection would start failing her. And yet, she sometimes found that painful memories were all too clear, overshadowing what she knew had been good memories, too.

That was the reason she was now waiting for the water in her cauldron to boil, rolling the joberknoll feather between her fingers as she did. Because perhaps, recalling the happy parts with as much clarity would give her freedom to move on.

Once the water was boiling, she dropped the feather in, then stirred the blue feather in, round and round, three times counterclockwise.

She left it boiling and moved on to preparing the mandrake, which needed to be stewed and chopped. She'd gotten the unpleasant part of removing it from its pot and waiting for it to go dormant earlier, behind the safe protection of her earmuffs, so now there was only blessed silence as she worked.

Regulating the heat down to a medium sized flame when half an hour had passed, Dee measured five ounces of the stewed mandrake on her scales, then added them to the cauldron and followed with five clockwise stirs.

The next half hour was spent preparing the sage powder, and then chopping the snowdrops into fine pieces with the remaining time. She sprinkled in the powder when the thirty minutes were up, carefully stirring as she did, four times and clockwise. The snowdrop pieces followed, and the she stoked the flame up as far as it would go, so it would stay nicely hot for the next hour.

A wave of her wand over the cauldron, and then she busied herself scribbling down notes for a history of magic essay, making notes at the same time about details she'd need to look up, and topics she had to revise. The OWLs were coming up all too soon, and while she wasn't all too concerned about her potions and charms exams, history of magic, astronomy, and transfiguration would require more preparation.

When she looked up what felt like only minutes later, there were only seven minutes left to the sixty the potion required, and she sighed, stretching, and put away her parchment and quill. She'd finish it later in the library. Once the time hit the full hour, she extinguished the fire, then performed another five counterclockwise stirs.

Another touch of magic, and she looked at the completed potion thoughtfully. She'd give it a try... tomorrow.

Potion | Weakness Potion
Ingredients required | 1 piece/branch of Devil’s Snare, 4 dried Poppyheads, 1 jar of Honey, 2 Horned Slugs, 2 Beetles' Black Eyes, 3 Sprigs of Lavender

Roleplay (200 words min) | WC 586
Reducio
Ever since her third year because of her grandparents’ passing away due to unexpected poisons, Lindsey had been doing research on toxicology. The more she read, the more interest gained, and after two years of learning she had felt that she could finally be capable of start brewing some negative effected potions herself, despite those possible poisonous gas and skin exposure.

Starting small was a good quality of hers, and after prudent reflection she picked the Weakness Potion out of her textbook - well, fourth year ones, as said Lindsey liked to start small - so as to have a thorough read of it and gather the needed ingredients. Putting everything in her cauldron and making her way to the Potions classroom, Lindsey thought she was rather ready.

The first thing she did upon entering was to turn all the lights on as a safety precaution, a sorry to all those who might be making ones in the darkness, and settled herself in a corner, placing her cauldron in front of her. She started to chop a branch of Devil’s Snare, carefully cutting them into even cubes, before putting them on her copper scale to measure the weight. 2 ounces would be sufficient as said, and she added them into her cauldron. Heating it to medium, she turned aside and dragged some borrowed Potions books out, while patiently waiting the process to be completed - a good 45 to 60 minutes of boiling, and she would be bored to death if she’s just staring over the bubbling water.

Thankfully the time slipped over in reading, and Lindsey quickly switched into low heat when her watch tickled in 50 minutes’ time. She ground 2 dried Poppyheads in a mortar until it became a fine powder, and spread them into the cauldron. After this, Lindsey ground 2 more, this time into a coarse powder, rulering it into 1 to 2 mm in diameter. She added them into the mixture, slowly stirring it - clockwise, 3 times; anti-clockwise, 5 times - Lindsey counted in her heart, before pouring a complete jar of honey into the cauldron. Another clockwise stir, and finally a wave of wand - great, resulting in another 30 minutes’ of brewing. Picking her book up and setting her watch again, Lindsey spent 2 minutes gazing into the strange-coloured mixture with great pleasure and anticipation, and went back to her reading.

When the time was due she was more than happy to get back in motion. Lindsey put 2 horned slugs into the cauldron, her fingers trembling a bit because of slight uneasiness of holding this ingredient, and another 2 beetles’ black eyes, still with some disgust. She quickly stirred the mixture 2 times anti-clockwise, hoping not to see those things floating up in the liquid again and let them melt as fast as they could. After this she crushed 3 sprigs of lavender into a fine powder in the mortar, turned off the heat and added it into the cauldron. A final clockwise stir of 2 times, and now she was at the finals step of waving her wand over the cauldron. Lindsey completed the process with great delight, airily swirling her wand in the air when her left hand grabbed a glass phial. Holding her breath, she nimbly transferred the liquid from the cauldron into the phial, sincerely hoping that she would not take any of it in - not a very bad attempt, she thought. It would always be nice if you started small.

Potion | Bruise Removal Paste
Ingredients Required | 3 Murtlap Tentacles, 1 Jar of Honey, 2 Measures of Bubotuber Pus, 6 Seashells, 2 Measures of Flobberworm Mucus
RP | 500/200
Reducio
One thing that Raizel had been sick of was perhaps finding herself always hurt and the need to visit the Hospital Wing. She did feel bad towards the staff that always sees her lying in bed and healing, much more when her friends get a hold of the news that she had somehow miraculously found another way to end up there, may it be through duelling that she is now trying to lessen or her reckless decisions.

She already has the bandaging spell to deal with lacerations and scratches but she would probably need more healing spells and for sure, she will get those once they are within her skill level just so she won’t be that much of a burden. Still, she needs more healing potions and the Bruise Removal Paste sounds like a good option for her. And so, here she is, in the potion classroom with her equipment and the ingredients from who knows where she had gotten but she did buy them with her own allowance and her parents don’t have to know what shenanigans she’s up to to even need this potion. They probably know, she’s in Hogwarts after all.

Raizel placed the cauldron on the stove, setting the flame on medium heat while she worked on other ingredients. Once 10 minutes was up, she added in 3 murtlap tentacles and 1 jar of honey before stirring the mixture for 5 times in a clockwise direction. So far so good, the potion hasn't exploded or anything. She was so sure it would just explode on her face. Funny how she is making a potion that’s meant to heal injuries causing her one. Considering her horrible luck, that’s not far off from happening.

She took the mixture off of the flame and then added 2 ounces of fluids of disgusting Bubotuber Pus and proceeded to stir it for 3 times, counter-clockwise. Once she placed the cauldron back on fire, she took out her wand, taking a deep breath. “Please don’t explode…” while she has confidence in her own knowledge, she has no trust with her luck. She waved her hand and bam, nothing happened except for her successfully sprinkling some magic in it. She let it be for a while, crushing 6 seashells into fine powder while she waits for it to simmer on low heat for 60 minutes which is a long wait. She then added 3 pinches of the fine seashell powder and the last ingredients which are 2 measures of Flobberworm mucus. Again, disgusting.

She stirs it occasionally in a clockwise direction while heating it up, taking notes of the changes in its consistency, and only stopping once it resembles that of a thick-paste. The final wave of the wand was then applied before turning off the flame to cool it down. Once it was ready, the Gryffindor girl transferred the newly brewed potion to its container. With this, hopefully, she’ll be less of a burden to the people in the hospital wing.

Potion | Dogsbreath Potion
Ingredients required | Fire Whiskey, Bat Spleen, Fire Seed, Valerian Root

RP (WC 310/200)
Reducio
After overcoming the small chaos she experienced, Sere took a breath and said to herself, "Right, Sere. Nothing will go wrong with potion brewing." Sere drew closer to her station and started re-reading the Dogsbreath Potion instructions from the beginning.

"Earlier, I added 10 fluid ounces of water to the cold cauldron," Sere glanced at the cauldron on her left side, then moved her gaze to the station table, "Now it's time to chopping the spleens." She chopped 3 Bat Spleens carefully, put them in the cold cauldron, and stirred it once clockwise.

Sere pulled protective gloves from her pocket and put it on before adding one Fire Seed to the cold cauldron. "Okay, let's tidy up while waiting." Sere took off the protective gloves then placed up some of the ingredients back to the jar. Exactly 5 minutes later, the Gryffindor girl heard the cauldron boiling. She stirs it once again, clockwise.

Sere lifted the ladle she used to stir the potion and poured 3 fluid ounces of Fire Whiskey onto the ladle, then poured it slowly into the potion. Sere stirred the potion again slowly and exclaimed proudly inside her heart when she saw the surface of the potion began to burn with a blue flame. I did it!

Immediately, Sere pulled the ladle out of the cauldron, took her wand, and waved it over the cauldron. Sere looked at the clock, waited for 2 minutes while chopping Valerian Root into fine cubes. She put the diced root into the cauldron and stirred it twice, anti-clockwise. She could see that the potion has stopped burning.

"For the last part..." Sere raised her wand again and waved it over the cauldron. She carefully put the purple liquid -the Dogsbreath Potion- into the crystal vials. "And I'm done." She raised her eyebrows in satisfaction. That was a pretty chaotic-but-good start.

Potion | Antidote to Common Poison
Ingredients required | Bezoar, Standard Ingredient, Unicorn Horn, Mistletoe Berry

RP (WC 308/200)
Reducio
After making Dogsbreath Potion -her first ever potion- last time, Sere feels that her interest in making potion starts increasing. However, Sere also feels that the chaotic Dogsbreath Potion was quite difficult for her. So today, she decided to go back to the pretty basic potion: Antidote to Common Poison. "This potion will be very useful for daily life in an unexpected -full of magical creatures- world." Sere said to herself while taking out the ingredients and instruction parchment from inside her enchanted satchel.

After reading the instructions once more, Sere started by put 1 Bezoar to mortar, crushed it until became a very fine powder. Sere took a measuring spoon and added 4 measures of the Bezoar powder to the cauldron and also added 2 measures of Standard Ingredient into it. "It goes well so far," Sere reminds herself to stay focused and be careful, especially because what she's gonna do after that is heating the cauldron, "Medium temperature... Done."

Sere only needs to wait 5 seconds before taking out her wand and wave it over the cauldron. Next, Sere took out the Potions textbook, parchment, and quill. "I'd better start deciding what potion to make next time. Let's see..."

About 30 minutes later, Sere checked the potion that is brewing. "Umm... Unicorn horn..." Sere took and added 1 pinch of the precious unicorn horn into the cauldron. Using a ladle, she stirs the potion twice, clockwise. The girl's hands deftly picked up 2 mistletoe berries, "It goes into the cauldron." then stir it again twice, but now anti-clockwise.

"And for the last touch..." Sere waved her wand and she could see the teal colored liquid is ready to be placed into the crystal vials. "Antidote to Common Poison is quite easy, perfect for the beginner like me. I think I'll make my next potion really soon."

Potion | Burn Healing Paste
Ingredients required | Murtlap Tentacles, Seaweed, Honey, Flobberworm Mucus, Dittany

RP (WC 363/200)
Reducio
Recently, Sere feels that her interest in sports has increased. Since becoming a duellist, no one keep count on how many times The Fire-Making Spell -Incendio- she casted, as well as how many times it went on her. Today, Sere comes to Potions Class to make Burn Healing Paste. I really need it to treat burns that likely occured in the future.

For the third time in her first year, Sere arranged up the ingredients and utensils needed on the station table, then opened the parchment contains instruction to make Burn Healing Paste.

Sere made sure that the cauldron is clean before put in 3 Murtlap Tentacles. With a knife and cutting board, she chopped the seaweed into small pieces, move it into a mortar, and crush it. "Uh, I need more of it." Sere felt that the crushed seaweed has not reached the required 4 spoonfuls yet. She repeated the steps of chopping and crushing the seaweed, then put exactly 4 spoonfuls of crushed seaweed into the cauldron, "Perfect." Sere stir the potion three times, clockwise.

Next, the lioness set the fire to high heat and took out her wand then waved it over the cauldron. As what she already did before, Sere took out the Potion Textbook, parchment, and quill. She started looking for the potion she would do next time, "Umm... Dizziness Draught sounds quite interesting." Sere wrote down the ingredients and steps to make the potion while waiting for around half an hour to pass.

After letting the potion brew for about half an hour, Sere turned off the heat, added 1 jar of honey into the cauldron, and stir it 2 times, clockwise. Next, Sere turns the heat back on to low heat and leave it for only 10 seconds. She put 2 measures of Flobberworm Mucus into the cauldron and heated it while stirring clockwise until she got the consistency she wanted.

"I think it's paste-like already." Sere turned off the heat and added a singular sprig of dittany as the final ingredient, waited a little while until it dissipated. She waved her wand once more before placing the perfectly-made orange Burn Healing Paste into the jar.

Winter goes away and turns into spring when Sere entered the Potions Classroom for the umpteenth time. The British-Korean girl plans to make one more potion to fill up her free time. There's nothing more fun than making potions on a weekend like this. She is gonna make Dizziness Draught.

Sere's ability increased rapidly after making potions several times, which can be seen from her deft actions in preparing the ingredients and utensils for this potion. "Alright, first step..." Sere added 3 measures of Fire Whiskey to the cauldron, let it boil for 30 seconds, and lower the heat.

She ground 4 Woodlice into a powder using mortar and added 2 sprigs of Skurvy Grass afterwards, combined both and made it into a paste. She put all the paste into the cauldron and stir it three times, clockwise. Sere waved her wand over the cauldron and let it brew for about 35 minutes. No need to curious about what Sere did while waiting: of course she looked for potions that she would make next.

Half an hour passed, Sere prepared the ingredient that would be put into the cauldron next. She chopped 2 Spider Legs into small pieces. Exactly five minutes later, Sere added the Spider Legs into the cauldron and stirred the potion four times, anti-clockwise.

"All is good..." said Sere while increasing the heat to medium heat. Sere prepared the crystal vials and tidied up the station while waiting for another five minutes to pass. Sere raised her wand again and waved it over the cauldron as the finishing touch. The orange liquid -Dizziness Draught- is now ready. Sere surely will use this potion as good as possible for her personal protection.

Zach continued to make the potions after the fire accident that happened in the Potions Classroom. He looked for the spare ingredients in his satchel. Yes, good thing, he had spare ingredients ready. He threw the failed potions and started it again from scratch.

He was started with crushing 4 sprigs of lavender and 3 chamomile petals in a large mortal. He crushed it very thoroughly until those two ingredients became a very fine powder. Then he measured the powder and put it in the cauldron four times. The lad took the crocodile's heart again and felt disgusted by it again. He quickly cut it into dices so the shape of the heart won't haunt any longer. He put the diced crocodile heart in the cauldron.

"Stir once." The lad stirred the ingredients in the cauldron then he cast, "Incendio." the lad controlled the heat to the high heat and waited for it for 60 seconds, precisely by looking at the mechanical clock. He lowered the heat to medium after the 60-second period passed.

He continued by grinding 3 sprigs of peppermint into a medium-fine powder and added it to the cauldron in a quick. "Anti-clockwise." He mumbled, reminding himself to not make any mistakes. The lad stirred the cauldron 5 times in an anti-clockwise manner. Then he waved his wand, imbuing the potions with his magic and left to brew for 60 minutes. While waiting for the 60-minute period, he looked at Sere Nade to see how she was doing. He felt bad that due to his carelessness, he made the lioness hurt her fingers. He also prepared another step like preparing 2 measures of standard ingredients and crushing the dried poppy until it became a coarse powder.

Sixty minutes was actually very long and boring. Zach reduced the heat to low after the time passed and the look in the cauldron was like the description in his notes. He added 2 measures of standard ingredients and stirred the cauldron again thrice in a clockwise manner. Zach added a dried poppy powder to the cauldron and controlled the heat to the high until the potions boiled. After 4o seconds, he cast, "Extinguo" to make the fire completely extinguished.

Zach stirred the cauldron again thrice in a clockwise manner then he imbued the potion again with his magic. The calming draught was ready. He put it inside some vials. Then he cleaned the mess he had made and left the potions classroom.

AngelFyre sat in the Prefect’s Bathroom on a thick blanket spread over the cold marble floor. She had set up her work station under a stained glass window opposite the grand bath and its numerous Jacuzzi-like jets, mainly because it was out of the way of the main paths of travel in the room. While she was normally awestruck upon entering this beautiful place, even after 5 months of being able to do so, tonight her focus was entirely elsewhere. It was now 1:00 a.m. in the morning and she had a lot of work to do and only a little time in which to do it. Simon’s birthday was fast approaching and she needed uninterrupted time and space to brew some potions for him.

She had thought to do this in her private dorm room, but that would be a thoughtless and reckless thing to do. If something went dreadfully wrong, even though the castle walls were stone, Badger Bungalow itself was a homey little den of wooden furniture and plants and books and canopies. In short, one stray ember or one super heated spray of a failed potion could cause a deadly conflagration. And even if there was no fire or explosion, there was no denying that sometimes the brewing of potions could be a sloppy, smelly mess. No need to subject her dorm mates to any foul stenches while they were trying to get their beauty sleep. This room was perfect because it was all marble and metal. If things went wrong, the “wrong” would at least be contained. Or so she reasoned.

Tonight’s menu consisted of the Calming Draught. AngelFyre had her burner and cauldron set up and ready to go. She had her potion book open and nested on her book holder tripod with the enchanted linemark she had purchased from Scrivenshaft’s a couple of months ago attached to the outer edge of the page. Because it was enchanted, it could easily move up and down as necessary, and seamlessly from page to page of its own volition. A bookmark marked the page you were last on, but a linemark rested below the last line that had been read in any book. As soon as one line was read, silently or aloud, the linemark would move on to the next line. They were very handy to have when brewing, especially, since you could focus on your ingredients or the stirring of the pot and have your hands free to do other things rather than constantly going back and forth to find where you last were in the recipe.

Once all of the ingredients were laid out in the order that the recipe called for them, she cast a quick glance at her wrist watch. The seconds hand was moving in a steady motion, so now it was just a matter of getting started. She wiped her large mortar and pestle off with a clean rag and then grabbed the 4 lavender sprigs and plucked 3 of the white Chamomile petals off and tossed both into the mortar and ground them into a fine powder with the pestle. Grinding with the mortar and pestle was something she always found quite relaxing, so she liked that this recipe started off wanting a fine powder as it meant more time could be spent grinding. She reached for her scoop and tossed 4 level measures of her finely ground powder into the unlit cauldron.

Next was the crocodile heart. AngelFyre honestly did not want to think about how this had been harvested because she loved all animals so, but it had caused her some pause when she read it would be a necessary ingredient to the Calming Draught. Why, of all things, a crocodile heart? A sloth’s heart she would understand as they were both slow and non-terrifying, but a crocodile? A feeling of calm was not the overwhelming feeling that struck her when thinking of crocodiles. A bit of research clarified the point for her. Crocodiles have an extra valve in their hearts that only operate when there is very little adrenaline in their system. When the valve is open, it allows their heart to shunt blood throughout their body without having to constantly have to recirculate it through their lungs to be reoxygenated.

Looking at it closely before dicing it as the recipe called for, AngelFyre could not help but wonder if at the time of harvest, this particular crocodile’s heart was devoid of adrenaline. Could it be that a heart that had last been in a fight or flight state might not work as well in a Calming Draught? Or would it work regardless? She had no idea, but either way, this was the heart she had and it was the one she would use. “Sorry Mr. or Miss Gator. I hope you had a good life and I well and truly thank you for your sacrifice.” When she had finished dicing it, she tossed it into the cauldron and stirred just once.

She was next supposed to heat the contents on high for 60 seconds, so she grabbed her wand and moved and incanted a perfect “Incendio” at the burner which immediately went to flame. She adjusted it to high and then watched her watch as 60 seconds ticked by. She had memorized the spell, and was reciting it out loud, as she went along. The next step called for her to turn the heat down to medium after the 60 seconds had passed, and that is what she did. Glancing over to the book, she smiled as the linemark was right where she thought it would be. It was peppermint time now.

She reached for the 3 sprigs of peppermint and her clean rag. She hurriedly wiped the mortar free of any of the previous ingredients and tossed the peppermint into the mortar and quickly got them ground down to a medium powder. She had to make herself pay extra attention here because it was often too easy for her to go overboard and grind ingredients into fine powders. When she had it just right, she tossed the peppermint powder into the cauldron as directed and then stirred the concoction 5 times exactly in a counter-clockwise direction.

She reached for her wand once again and waved it in silence over the cauldron, imbuing it with some of the magic it would need at this stage to brew a perfect Calming Draught. Now she had to let it brew for 50-85 minutes. 85 minutes felt like a long time to sit in this place, so she had decided when she planned this all out that she would divide the difference between 50 and 85 by 2 and then add that amount to 50 minutes. That figure would be how long she would let it brew. A quick calculation told her she would be letting it brew for 67 ½ minutes or thereabouts. She had some leeway since she was given a range of 35 minutes.

That gave her time to tidy her utensils and her tools and to read up on the next evening’s brewing session. AngelFyre would be brewing the Burn Healing Paste the following evening. She read the recipe first, but then studied her class notes for any tips or warnings that Professor Regan may have given in class.

Potions were honestly not hard to brew. They just were not. Everyone could count, grind, stir, chop, dice, and even wave a wand. Those things were not difficult, and it was because they were not difficult that problems arose. What made it all so taxing was the precision and hyper-vigilant attention to detail one must pay all along the way to those simple actions. The smallest thing could doom a brew at any stage of the process, and that wore people down. It had been her experience with some potion partners over the years that their overconfidence was their downfall. Slow and steady focus was a winner almost every time.

As she finished going over tomorrow’s recipe and notes for the third time, she checked her watch. It had been 66 minutes. Looking at tonight’s recipe, she looked at the linemark. When the watch indicated it had been 67 ½ minutes, AngelFyre turned the burner flames down to a low heat as directed. She added 2 level measures of the Standard Ingredient and stirred it 3 times, in a clockwise direction this time.

Things needed to move a little quickly now, and that is why she memorized the recipes. She quickly recited what she was doing each step of the way to herself and would occasionally check herself with the linemark. She crushed and then ground in the mortar a single poppy head only (no stem or leaves) into a coarse powder. She then tossed the poppy powder into the cauldron and turned the heat up to high, waiting for it to come to a boil which did not take too long. When a roiling boil was reached, she grabbed her watch once again and counted out the 40 seconds.

At the end of the 40 seconds, her hand reached for her wand and she intoned “Extinguo!” turning the burner off entirely. With no more heat being added, she stirred it 3 times exactly in a clockwise direction. As the ladle came out of the cauldron, she set it down on a clean rag and once again picked up her wand, waving it over the brew in silence, imbuing the final bit of magic into the draught.

It was still very hot, but the color was the most lovely shade of blue, which is exactly what it should have been. She drew out a couple of glass phials from her potions carrier, and grabbed her Protective gloves out of her satchel and put them on as an added protection. She placed a couple of funnels in the mouths of the glass phials and carefully ladled the brew into first one and then the other. She capped them after removing the funnels and then placed her hand made labels on each glass bottle. The labels consisted of the name, which in this case was the Calming Draught Potion, along with the date it had been brewed.

Once the bottles cooled down completely, which would likely not be until an hour or so after she got back to her dorm room, she would add a beautifully aromatic and golden-colored beeswax seal around the top of each bottle stopper. This would let Simon know at a glance that they had neither been opened nor tampered with since having been filled.
