Sunlight streamed through tall, arched windows, casting a kaleidoscope of light across the room, much like the scattered stars that adorned the night sky his mother so adored. Each beam played upon the surfaces, bringing the dust motes to life in a dance of golden shimmer, reminiscent of the flickering stars. The room was lined with shelves that overflowed with spellbooks. Their spines, aged and worn, whispered tales of ancient magic and secrets long forgotten, much like the stories hidden in the constellations. The air was thick with the scent of parchment and ink, a comforting aroma that reminded him of home.

Desks were arranged in neat rows, a crescent shape, each a station for the young witches and wizards to hone their craft. On them lay quills and parchment, ready to document the successes and mishaps of their magical endeavours. And...skeletons? In a corner was a cabinet, housing an assortment of magical items – from Sneakoscopes to Foe-Glasses. Each piece buzzed with latent, mysterious energy as if waiting for the right moment to reveal its secrets.

This was Dean's first time here.

A hint of excitement and nervousness tickled his skin and he made his way through the crowd of impressed first years, his fingers moist and his bag held right against his side. He and Elisa had planned to find a desk and settle together somewhere a little secluded where they wouldn't be picked on by the professor, per Dean's request. His relationship with school was and always had been a little complicated. Despite his quick mind, he struggled with all the rules and the limits that came with being in a classroom. Though, he'd promised his mother to be good, so he wanted to try his best.

Shuffling quickly, he made his way to a desk far from the stage sitting in the middle of the room. He settled down and, with a curious eye, observed the dismembered skeleton straddling his parchment paper. Curiosity began to take over his anxiety and as he looked upwards, to the front of the classroom, he suddenly realised they were not alone- their professor was already there, looking excited for this first lesson. She seemed nice enough to him.

Ripping his attention from her, he started to look around, looking for Elisa's familiar face. Plopping his back on the chair next to him, he claimed the space, waiting very patiently. He was soon rewarded as he picked up her smile amongst the crowd and, without thinking, Dean shot up an waved quickly for her. "Elisa!" he said, his voice loud enough to ring over the murmur of the other students. His grin widened as she approached and he brought her in for a hug before shoving his bag from her seat and batting the wood. "How are you? Did you sleep well? I'm so excited! The professor looks nice and there are pastries behind her. Do you think they'll be for us?" he asked, poking the skeleton with his wand curiously, his excitement now bubbling in his chest.

Elisa walked down the hallways of the castle, eyes wide with awe as she glanced around at all the magnificent sights. In particular, all the moving, talking paintings lining the walls. No mere paintings, the subjects within were much like living beings, with personalities and interests and daily schedules. They were all so fascinating that it was difficult not to dally on the way to classes. Some would hop from painting to painting, chatting and eating together, and others would even converse with her, making each trek to class quite distracting. But the clock was ticking and her excitement for her next subject gave her the boost of speed and focus needed to reach the threshold of the Charms classroom just in time.

Upon arriving inside, Elisa gasped in delight at the sight before. The room was decorated with a Halloween-like vibe, with a low fog licking at her feet and concealing the wooden floor beneath. The walls were adorned with lush green vines and numerous dark purple tulips and orchids blooming in vases throughout the class. And on every student desk, and the bookshelves that lined the front of the room, were tiny little skeletons, some broken and some holding miniature instruments. She giggled, her heart fluttering with excitement, knowing that this was going to be a memorable class. But wasn't every class so far?

And then she caught sight of Dean, with his friendly grin, one she was beginning to know and love so well. It was a smile that could melt worries and make joy blossom within her bosom. She ran towards him, hugging - or crashing into him - back. "Dean!" she exclaimed. "How are you? I love Hogwarts!" The latter phrase was one that she seemed to utter uncontrollably and non-stop since she first arrived at the castle. She nodded her head enthusiastically at his question. She had slept well, as always. "All the stairs and exploring and studying and excitement and good food... it's hard not to sleep well!" she replied. She turned to the professor's desk and only then noticed the many delicious pastries displayed there. Elisa then realized the air was filled with their inviting aromas. Her stomach rumbled in anticipation. "Ohh.. those look delicious! They are definitely for us," she added, glancing towards the professor with her kind and welcoming smile.

She plopped onto the seat of the desk beside Dean's, the one nearest the windows which bathed the room in warm sunlight. It cast a cheerful, friendly glow over everything, offsetting the spooky vibe the professor had undoubtedly been going for. Taking out her massive Charms textbook, she dropped it onto her desk with a thud. She then took out her wand, twirling it around once in her fingers, admiring the handsome wood and craftmanship. "I can't wait to learn new spells today, Dean! I wonder what we'll learn? Something to repair these cute fellows, I assume?" she wondered, glancing down at the broken skeleton on her desk and prodding it gently with a finger.

Her smile was truly infectious as she made her way to him, bouncing like a little bunny, excited for its first day of summer. Her enthusiasm made his heart seize and he grinned a little wider, letting her go after holding her tight in a swift hug. She smelled like pastries and the sun. Her words, as they most often did, made him chuckle and he nodded. "Right. It's so cool, I can barely get over it. What did I tell you when we met, huh? You knew what to expect!" he laughed.

He sat a little more comfortably in his seat, pulling his tools for the lesson and fiddling with the little skeleton, or what was left of it anyway. In true boyish fashion, he grabbed it and, much like he would with an action figure, began to make it fight with Elisa's with little 'woosh'es and 'pow's. "The beds in the dorms are the cosiest I've ever slept on," he hummed, focused on his task. "It was so hard getting up this morning. I just didn't want to! It's getting so cold too, I don't like it," he mumbled under his breath before jumping at the loud thud Elisa's book caused, the table vibrating under the weight. He giggled, probing it with the skeleton's sole leftover arm. "This is huge," he said.

His hand dug into his bag and he pulled his own textbook out, grinning. "We're matching!" he joked before quickly looking at the table of contents. "I don't know at all," he hummed. "My dad said that they learned really basic spells in his first year but that was ages ago, he's a dinosaur now," he said very wholeheartedly with a serious nod. "You're right though, we'll probably learn how to fix these bad boys. I wonder if we'll get to keep them after. That'd be neat, right? I can dress him up and everything. I'll take him on holiday with me. Or to the grounds or something," he giggled before closing his book and turning to Elisa. His eyes fell on her wand and he gasped. "Yours is so pretty!" he exclaimed, holding a hand out in a silent question, hoping to hold it just for a little. "Do you remember all the stuff that's in it?" he asked finally, cocking a brow. "Apparently each thing means something about you. It's like astrology but less cool. By the way, what's your sign? Zodiac sigh, I mean. Me I'm a virgo. Kind of the coolest sign, if you ask me," he added with yet another serious nod.
