Reminiscing In The Ballroom Closed

Earlier in the common room...        Solo
The day was cold and grey. Nothing to do. No where to wander. Donny was sitting, his face screwed up and slumping under the weight of his hands. His other hand occupied with the task of holding up a quill, which had the boring task of scratching the ink onto the parchment, which was supposed to be his Transfiguration essay. The common room had barely anyone occupying it, but a few, equally lazy people. Listening to music, reading old muggle books from home, having a short gossip. Donny knew he wouldn't get anything done. He rolled up his parchment and supplies, and stalked off over to the fire.

"Hi." he said shortly to the group there. The looked at him confusedly and walked off, annoyed. he sat and stared at the fire and watched the reflecting flames in his glasses. He sat for awhile and in the meantime, and picked up some distant lyrics, "I watched him linger in the dead of night, holding, holding on my hand so tight..." the soft melody proceeded. He thought for a moment trying to remember where he had heard the song. He had then remembered that he heard the song when his mother took him to an old pub called The Blind pig somewhere in London. He remembered that this was his mothers favorite song, and reminded her of his father. Donny got the chills just thinking about his father.

"Do you know where the ballroom is?" some girl asked him. She had a soft, ginger hair and was very embarrassed to talk to anyone.

Donny shook his head and she looked at him in disbelief. She took out her small, pink earphones and gestured for him to follow her.

The Ballroom...
The kindly girl guided him to the ballroom. He was going to ask what her sole purpose was, but then he saw it. The room was large, and round. Every movement he made echoed around the grand room and the stone, musty walls. It seemed very Gothic, and torn with age, but had the same if not better grandeur than the Buckingham palace! The girl took in Donny's reaction and flopped her arms at her side expectantly.

"Well..." she said. "Uh, I think it's really beautiful. Like... old and beautiful!" Donny repeated. She seemed not to hear him and plopped down her radio on a small, round table with a dusty old refreshment tray. She resumed the song she had on in the common room, and dreamily drifted off dancing with herself. Donny thought this was very unpleasant and... weird to be forward, but let people be people his mom would tell him. His mom. He thought back to the time she took him to the pub. It was very crowded, and loud but cool at the same time.

He remembered he was very young at the time, and she took him soon after she told him about his father. He was sent to azkaban prison shortly after Donny had turned three years of age, and his mother hadn't had very much money at the time. He remembered, the big, old people. This was what he used to call anyone usually bigger than he was, but his mother had explained to him that the pub was no place for children, which was why they seemed to look disapprovingly at his mother the remainder of the time.

"You should dance you know." the girl said shortly. Donny jumped, quick out of his cloud of reminiscing. The real significance of the song, was the fact that this was the song his mother would sing it to him when he was sad. He began to feel a rumbling in his stomach. He tried to search for the word to describe his emotions... Homesick. He knew this was normal for a fist year, and didn't worry too much about it.

"I think I should go... lay down for a bit. Thanks though!" Donny said to the girl, who appeared to be dumbfounded. So much for his free-time...
