Astoria had been at Hogwarts for quite some time now but one place that she had never visited before was the Owlery. It was chilly cloudy day, it looked though it could even rain. The greenery surrounding Hogwarts was still dead. This March weather needs to turn to June weather. Her nose was cold, her scarf was keeping her neck warm and her robes were clasped together to help keep the chilly wind from making her cold.

Astoria had just sent a message to her father and mother in London to inform her how she was doing. Since being away from her family, it was hard for Astoria to adjust to. She had no siblings, no cousins nor aunts or uncles. She had just her two parents and her retired St. Mungo's healer grandmother who helped to raise her. The world was quite lonely for Astoria but her bright personality always kept her in high spirits around others.

She had just closed the entrance to the Owlery and she was beginning to walk down the stairs. She was reading a letter that her family had sent updating her about what was happening at home. She wasn't watching where she was going and her eyes skimmed the letter back and forth. She wanted to read every word that her letter had said.

Juliette walked sleepily to the owlery. Her short time at hogwarts had been fun so far but she hasn't made any friends yet. Well, except for a grumpy school barn owl. She walked quietly and quickly to the owlery. She was surprised she hadn't sent a letter to her parents about becoming a slytherin. She figured they would assume she did anyway. She was glad she got sorted into slytherin but another part of her longed to be different from the rest of her family. She shoved the thought away and tried to be happy everything was okay so far.

She held the letter like it was fragile as she walked. She wrote an awful lot explaining her experience so far with her parents. She left out she hadn't made any friends yet. She felt like she didn't fit in with anyone. She sighed and trudged up the stairs to the owlery. Not paying attention due to her looking at her feet she crashed into someone.

Juliette fell back with a cry and happened to catch herself before falling all the way down. She looked up to see who she ran into gasping, "Oh no! I'm so sorry. Are you alright?" She bit her lip in worry. She didn't need to make any enemies. Not before she had any friends anyway.

"He's lost his shillings." Catherine mumbled as she read her father's letter, her eyes re-reading each paragraph as he talks selling their farm. Her heart sank at even that thought- Ireland was a green wonderland but the O'Boyle's farm was heaven on earth as far as she believed. To even think that her brother's and her could even come home to something other than the farm made her want to scream outside the Owlery. Perking up slightly, Catherine determined that's exactly what she'd do.

The long staircase was a maze in itself almost, what step to take and whereas to make sure one as clumsy as herself wouldn't fall to an unfortunate death her first year. I'd be known as that girl, she thought as she heard a commotion in front of her. Two girls were huddling near each other as if they had collided and the humble apologies from one proved that as Catherine neared closer.

"Are you two fit, oi?" she asked as her accent came out, her eyes looking between the two. She recognized one from Slytherin and nodded slightly before surveying the other girl.

Who is that?
Catherine O'Boyle
"Oh, no, there goes that other O'Boyle."

Astoria had just began reading part of the letter when her parents had said that they were to travel to Egypt to meet with a group of magical archeologists to discover a wizard's tomb. Narcissa, Astoria's mother, had traveled to Egypt to study hieroglyphics and ancient Egyptian magic with her Ancient Runes class. While on travel, they had a bad encounter with some dark wizards who looked to have been trying to steal sacred treasure from the deceased pharaohs.

Lost within her letters, Astoria had collided with someone that was before her and she fell back as well. There was a cry from the person and Astoria fell just right to hit her head on the ground. "Ow!" Astoria said wincing with slight pain from the contact she had with the back of her head. She had her hair up in a ponytail and luckily she landed just right for there to be a soft cushion to protect her but enough to give her a little fright. She held the back of her head, the girl (Juliette) stood up and asked if Astoria was alright. "Yeah, I think so..." Astoria said not quite sure. She undid her ponytail and there was another girl (Catherine) who appeared as well, asking the same question.

Astoria pulled the ribbon from her hair, letting it drape down around her shoulders. She felt the back of her head once again with her fingers then noticed that there was no blood. "Oh thank goodness!" Astoria said with a large sigh of relief "I'm okay, no blood. I landed on the stones behind us but I guess my ponytail helped cushion the impact..." She picked up the letter that fell from her hands, it was now drenched in rainwater, but it looked as though it was still salvageable. "What about you? Are you okay?" What a great way to start her first year at Hogwarts, almost getting a concussion!

Juliette bent down to rub her ankle. A dull ache had started and she glanced at it and noticed she scraped her ankle against the stair. She rolled it, testing it out, and put it on the ground again. It stung a little but she figured it could have been worse. She smiled lighty at the girl she ran into before asking, "I think I'm okay. Do you need some help up?" She offered her hand to the other girl and looked up as another girl came into her view. She recognized the other Slytherin and smiled shyly at her saying, "I think so."

Juliette suddenly noticed her letter wasn't in her hand. She frowned, looked around, and noticed it wasn't anywhere in sight. She must have dropped it accidentally when she caught herself. She peered over the side of the stairs and squinted, wondering if she could see it. She sighed heavily, it looked like it had just disappeared. She turned to the girl she ran into and smiled apologetically before saying, "I'm awfully sorry, again. I hope your head is okay. I'm Juliette, by the way."

The way things were going she was never going to make any real friends. She pushed a stray blonde curl behind her ear, irritated at herself. She knew what her mother would say to her if she knew she hadn't made fast friends like she did.
