Wild Things
When the world ends, it won't be with a bang, it'll be with a whisper, or barely even that, it'll be words on a page. Something unavoidably true and filled with connotations rather left behind. You see the world itself won't end, people's worlds will end. One by one.
This had been a long day to say the least, it felt like a thousand years had passed since this morning, when Elena had woken up from another nightmare, it'd been Alan almost lost forever. Maybe they were a sign of things to come, prophetic and metaphoric and destroying her from the inside out.
Or maybe not, but who really knew?
Elena had to run all the way down to the dorms before coming out here, she needed something that felt like back-up if nothing else. Instead of wearing Min-seo's necklace, which previously she'd never taken off, Elena had picked up her flute and it was in the pocket of her cloak. Maybe it was because she'd read about bards earlier, maybe she'd just finally gone mad.
The hood of her cloak made it hard to see, and also to hear but it felt safer than anything else. She was so close to the stables that a part of her was wondering if Griffith might come and save her, but no help was coming, it never came.

Alan did not know what this feeling was, it had started with a weird pressure when he had read the first letter that brought them to this. It began nearly impossible to spot, a weary feeling that was pulling him down, swirling inside him as one truth after the other unfold when he got the next owl. His hand shook slightly, nervously as he read the words black on white. He literally skimmed through them awaiting an answer and when he got it his eyes narrowed as his whole body seemed to reach a standstill. He looked down at the paper in his hand that gave in under the pressure as he gripped it and send a quick owl back. No time to explain, no time to really think. Alan was not one to think about his actions and he wanted to know how Elena could have never told him. He knew why, he understood; deep down he understood. Yet he did not want to understand he jumped up as he turned to grab his belongings. It was not yet real spring, the coldness still did not completely leave however he would not care if he got sick. Still he needed something he could carry stuff with. He pushed his wand and some other stuff into the pockets of his coat as he ran out of his dorms.
His eyes were burning as he run. Fast enough for his breath to come in short huffs, without a pause making his throat ache as the cold air burned his lungs as soon as he stepped outside. The letter crumpled in his hand as he shook his head to get rid off all the thoughts swimming in his head, unable to focus, making him dizzy, making him feel…. restless. Not angry, he wasn't one to get angry but he was not happy for a change, his eyes narrowed as he stormed past the students probably bumping into one or another throwing around apologies whenever that happened, but never stopping once. A destination clear in his head, a path he could walk blind while asleep. The stables.
He could see her from afar and another surge of emotions rushed through him as he took his power to take a sprint only to take a full stop in front of the girl. He doubled over, his hands pressing against his knees as he wheezed for air. Only seconds passed before he snapped his head up, glaring at his friend. His friend that had kept secrets and it made Alan peeved. It was unfair and it was mean. He could not wrap his mind around the why. Why would it be like that? Why Elena?
”Explain”, he demanded, frazzled. His eyes glimmering with sorrow and worry, his cheeks burning red with exhaustion from the running as he tried to understand why this could not have been prevented. As he tried to get behind why Elena never told him before, did she not trust him? As he tried to figure out why no one went to help her before, was she helped now?
”Just… why?”, he shook his head before he launched forward and wrapped his arms around her, which was awkward since she was already getting taller than he was. But all in him screamed that his best friend needed a hug.

Elena peered up at one point, and could see Alan sprinting towards her. She ducked back under her hood, whether it was out of fear or out of anticipation she didn't quite know. Alan screeched to a stop in front of her, she shrunk back a bit, having never seen Alan anything other than happy or cautious before.
A thousand terrified ideas of how to run ran through Elena's head, but then as always, Alan managed to surprise her with a hug.
"I, I'm sorry." Elena hugged her friend back and tears started to spill from her eyes, "I just didn't want y-you to have to worry about me. You're s-so happy Alan, so n-nice and happy and I just I d-didn't want you to know that the world could b-be that dark."
All the sleepless nights and this day in general were wearing on Elena, the last time she cried it was when she thought she'd lost everything. I guess her mind had a theme going on, nothing was scarier than losing your future. Except the possibility of losing your best friend in the whole world. Most people would say Elena's priorities were not in order. Most people would be wrong.

Alan shook his head, at her words. "You dumb twit-", he muttered without malice, more in a scolding tone, as he let go of her and straightened up into a more comfortable pose. "You should know better than that, I could have been there for you, you know?", he continued and burried his hand into the pocket of his cloak. When he withdrew them again he held up a hand full of packed up Chocolate Frogs, clicking with his tonue.
"No more secrets like that, dingus", he sighed exaggerated and ended with a small smile. "I know the world isn't always pretty, Elena. This gives me more to make it a pretty place for as many people as possible and you are my friend, of course I would want to know when you are in trouble so that I can help you!", he pointed out, trying to make her understand his point of view. Of course he was happy that she tried to look out for him, but by making herself suffer more was not something he wanted to condone.
He let the wrapped up Chocolat frogs fall into her hand and closed it around them. "Those are for you, I know you like them lots", he said softly.

Elena had never been so happy to be sweared at in her life, very confused of course by this turn of events but happy all the same. The girl pulled the cloak a little bit more around her but was a bit too surprised to speak at this point. She caught the chocolate frogs that Alan handed her and smiled, just a little, as the fear from earlier hadn't quite crept out of her bones.
"You always find a way to surprise me, did you know that?" Elena sniffled and looked at Alan with adoration, "I promise not to keep any secrets like that again, not from you, at least."
Elena hugged herself, "I suppose this is when I tell you that I have really bad nightmares. Griffith fixed that though, for the most part. Although when another professor tried to suggest a potion he went off, so I still get the nightmares."
"Do you want tea? I'd like tea, we can sneak to Hogsmeade and have tea, if you wanted." Elena was obviously extremely anxious, "The tea shop there is really nice, they have little cakes and stuff. I got some money from what was my parent's vault, I guess it's mine now though."

Alan nodded and he glared at her, a pretty serious face for the young boy, who usually was seen with a smile no matter what. But not when he was worrying about a friend or having to concentrate on something important. ”I hope you won't, because I really want to help you however and whenever I can. You would do the same to me!”, he explained and accentuated his words by adding a huff by the end, like any mature boy would do.
”Is there any way to fix your nightmares?”, he asked carefully, worried about his friend's health. Skipping sleep and spending nights awake does not seem like something pleasant... it sounded rather lonely and like a sad time. Alan hoped there would be something that could help with her nightmares. ”Maybe a bedtime story?”, he suggested hopefully as he brushed back a strand of his hair. It was starting to grow to shoulder length now.
”I know that Moffy likes you, Elena... but not me, so I can't risk being seen in Hogsmeade. I reaaaaally don't want to have to leave R.O.A.M its my only chance to learn for my future...”, he frowned, his shoulders slumping down in defeat.

Elena smiled happily at her friend, "Haven't tried bedtime stories yet, I'll have to give it a go."
Bedtime stories, heard of but never really seen, maybe the library let you take books but she was still unsure about it. Elena would have to ask the librarian, there must be a few more interesting books around there, most of the fantasy section was gone due to the fact it was tiny to start with. She had found a small pocket of books hidden somewhere with only a note saying they were for the fiction reader with a brain.
Alan's hair was really getting long, Elena gestured to his luscious locks and grinned, "I can get you some hair dye if you want, it'd look good on you. A really light purple would look amazing with your eyes."
"I think Moffy likes you." Elena said quietly, "But if you want we can just hang out here. I have some sweets if you want, I forgot to take them out of my cloak this morning."
Sweets, they help you make friends. Elena wished she had the foresight to bring some sandwiches but there was a way the girl had expected this to end, and a part of it involved walking into the lake and having a good long cry. Hoping the giant squid wouldn't too unhappy with the interruption.

"You shoul, bedtime stories are really nice and help a lot with sleeping!", Alan agreed with a soft smile. He really hoped that this might work for his friend as he did not want her to have any discomfort more than she already was in. He could not imagine what it was like to go through the stuff she went through and for that he admired her. She was really strong and Alan hoped he could be as courageous as her one day.
"I would rather have it in a bubblegum color or just red 'ya know? But sure that would be cool!", he nodded and combed his hair back with his hand, using his fingers as some sort of makeshift comb. Alan was not sure about her words, so he just kept silent. "Maybe another time, or when I am actually allowed to go there in third year... you can sneak out and I am allowed there without any troubles!", he explained to her and smiled apologetic. He really would not want to get into trouble. Or not into trouble tha he could directly avoid, as trouble still always seemed to find him whether he looked for it or not.

Elena had been working her way through a book about a far-off land, mad scientists and demi-gods and a mage with a past forgotten. It would be perfect to fall asleep to, next time Elena was out in the real world she'd have to get some kind of music player. That way she could listen to music instead of the sound of her dorm-mates breathing. That would probably help too.
"Bubblegum! Good idea, it fits your personality more." Elena smiled, she pulled the cloak back a bit so it was behind her instead of a shell to hide behind, "Good idea, I keep forgetting you're a second year, but then again I keep forgetting I'm at a school at all, it's surreal just being here, you know?"
"Also, stop worrying like that, I can see your little sorry frown. Never be sorry for doing the right thing Alan, remember that." Elena sounded slightly thoughtful as she spoke, "You're the best of all of us, and that's what makes you special. King Vanes, the pure of heart."
Elena still hadn't finished that sword, to be fair she'd put it down when the new influx of work came in, but now the girl was once again free to finish it.

Alan nodded. "Bubblegum it is! We shall do that over the sumer, as obviously you gonna stay over again! There is no way I will let you be all alone over the summer!", he huffed with a smile. He would not even let her argument against it,as he knew Hogwarts would not let students stay over the summer, just during the other holidays. "Also of course I am a second year! Can't you tell by my height?", he asked proudly and tiptoed slightly, to seem a few centimetres taller than he actually was. Which still was rather small.
Alan giggled when she brought up their small game again, with a smile he shook his head. This girl was impossible and he was glad to call himself her best friend. "You really gonna be like my younger sister now!", he suddenly shouted and grinned at her. If Elena would stay at his place over the holidays it would be as if they were siblings and maybe if he really tried to convince his parents then Elena could move in with them? His mind was running wild with thoughts and possibilities.
"Wanna head back to the castle?", he asked stretching slightly with a yawn.
