Floating Beasts and Where to Find Them Closed

Jade was walking through the halls looking for a place to practice her spells, she was wearing the standard white shirt and grey skirt, Jade preferred the cold so she even had the sleeves rolled up, the only other slightly odd thing was Jades rather worn red Dock martins, jade had noticed that not many students wore Dock martins and Jade didn't think any of them were red, Jade didn't really like being odd, she would just have to learn a spell to change their colour. Jade strode down the hall and quietly opened the door to a classroom. 

There in the classroom was a boy (Gryffindor from his robes) attempting to preform the spell Wigardium Leviosa, a simple levitation spell. Jade found his attempts quite pitiful so decided to show him how its done. "Wigardium Leviosa!" Jade said using the proper wand movement, and just like that the book was floating, Jade floated it around the room then back to the table. This seemed to annoy the boy. Jade went over to one of the empty desks a little away from the boy and took out her copy of Standard Book Of Spells and started to look through the spells. She choose Fumos, a spell that makes smoke spout from the users wand "Fumos!" Jade said, a little bit of smoke feebly slunk out of her wand...

Just as Fenix found the chapter on Levitation spells, he was startled by another voice saying, "Wingardium Leviosa," and saw his book float across the room and back again. He turned to see a young Hufflepuff from the looks of it. She was very fair, from her hair to her skin, but her eyes stood out from her pale aesthetic like two mahogany marbles. Bit rude to just step in, he thought to himself. "Right, well, I was saying it wrong, I guess." He said bitterly in response to her intrusion on his focus. He watched as she cast the spell, "Fumos!" 

Fenix smirked at this opportunity to show off his skill. I'll show her... he thinks narrowing his eyes and adjusting his stance. With a wave of his wand and a cracked "Fumos!"........

Nothing happened. 

Fenix's face grew red with embarrassment. He cleared his throat, "I... have a bit of.." He clears his throat once more and nods. "Yes, that's better." Fenix raises his wand once more, I'll just say it with a bit more force behind it this time to keep it from cracking again, he thinks to himself as he barks out, "Fumos!" 

Thick grey smoke shoots from his wand, filling the room completely. Fenix begins to cough loudly and attempts to clear the smoke from around his face by waving his arms wildly in front of himself.

Jade turned a little red at her failed attempt at the spell, at that moment Jade heard "Fumos!" The boy had tried to do the spell too, and failed. That made Jade feel a little better. He cleared his throat "I... have a bit of.." He cleared his throat again and noded. "Yes, that's better." "Fumos!" This time smoke came bursting out of his wand. The smoke filled up the room and soon Jade was finding it hard to breath.

Jade coughed a bit  "Maybe not the best spell" she wheezed through coughs, she frantically flipped through her book looking for a spell to help, there were none she could preform. Her vision was getting blurred, she tried to walk to the door but her legs wouldn't move, With a wave of her wand Jade shouted "Flipendo!" it was a Knockback Jinx Jade had found, she had directed it at the boy and sent him flying to the door. If Jade couldn't make it out of the room at the very least this boy could make it out and get a teacher. Jade started to fall, she fell and then was lying on the floor, she saw light as the door opened, she heard footsteps. But she couldn't get up, she couldn't see hear or even think, and with that she was out cold.

Fenix suddenly found himself being hurled across the room! He coughed a bit and peered up from the ground. Below the smoke he could just see his fellow student laying on the floor behind a far desk. Fenix coughed again while crawling quickly to his fellow student. He took off his cloak and laid it next to her and rolled her onto it. He then picked up the cloak at one end, coughed some more, and began to drag his fellow student toward the door.

He stopped to cough again and his eyes began to burn since he was now standing once more and his face was surrounded by smoke. 

He dropped to the floor coughing but was determined to make it to the door with his fellow student. Fenix began to drag the cloak carrying Jade behind him while he crawled on his side towards the door to avoid breathing in so much smoke at once again. 

Finally after reaching the door, Fenix uses the very last of his energy to grip the handle on the door, pull it open and fall through the doorway, coughing and gasping for air while dragging his fellow student behind him. "Help" he manages to squeak out before he passes out onto the stone floor.

It was already well into the year, yet BonBon had made little effort into his new year’s resolution. As was stereotypical among many peoples, he had vowed to take off a few pounds he had accrued over the holiday break. Though there was likely a wizard way of culling that body fat, BonBon saw benefit in doing things the long, hard, Muggle way. He had begun a walking routine that involved him walking from first floor, all the way to the astronomy tower, and back down again. That was the plan at least. In reality, BonBon got to the Trophy Room and decided to call it quits. He longed for the days when he had a lean figure. At this rate, it was certainly going to take quite some time to get the desired results. On a brighter note, it gave him the chance to see a bit of the school beyond his Hufflepuff common room.

One of those sights happened to be a classroom spewing out smoke. Oh, and a boy passed out halfway out of the room.

“Oh dear…”

As BonBon pulled out his wand, he was reminded of his old days in Ilvermorny. There, teachers would occasionally come across distressed students who, in their effort to master their studies, weren’t paying attention to their surroundings. As the boy was mostly out of the smoke, the elder wizard opened the door to find yet another student passed out inside. As BonBon had no idea how many were inside, he went to work on removing all the smoke in the room. Judging from the lack of a burning blaze, he concluded this was an all-too familiar scenario of Fumos practice gone awry.

“Finite Incantatem!”

For minor incidents like this, a general counterspell was enough to dispel the spell-based smoke. With the room cleared, no further victims were revealed. As the air cleared, the two victims would find it easier to breath and (ideally) regain consciousness. For better measure, BonBon knelt down to Fenix and Jade. He pointed his wand towards the girl’s chest and cast “Reparifors”, a minor healing spell to revert the effects of their own castings. He quickly pointed to Fenix to do the same.

“Whatever were you two thinking?” BonBon remarked in exasperation as he waited for the two students to get back to their normal selves.

Fenix's shiny copper ribbons of hair had fallen limp, his black, square framed glasses sat askew on his face, and his right hand clutched his cloak on which the unconscious body of his fellow student lay.

"Finite Incantatem!" 

Fenix opened his eyes to see what appeared to be a balding lion in wizard robes? As the smoke cleared he was able to see thatthe balding lion was, in fact, the Hufflepuff Head of House, Professor Bonet.

Coughing a bit as he slowly sat up, Fenix could feel his head pounding.  

“Whatever were you two thinking?” 

"I'm sorry professor. We were just practicing and I guess it got out of hand..."

Fenix never was a good liar. Rivalries weren't against the rules at Hogwarts but Fenix's pride already hurt enough as it is, he didn't need to add to it by telling the professor that he had been showing off and it nearly got a fellow student killed. He looked down at his lap as he still sit on the cold stone floor trying to regain his bearings, then looked at the Hufflepuff that performed the impressive knockback jinx that had sent him flying across the room. She seemed to finally be stirring and Fenix could feel a huge wave of relief wash over him. Thank the Gods he didn't kill her after all.

Jade's head hurt, she didn't know where she was or what had happened, she heard some muffled talking but her ears weren't quite working yet. She sat up and rubbed her eyes. she was in a classroom, on a Gryffindors cloak?

Then it all came back to her, she had been trying Fumos when the boy did it and filled the room with smoke. Looking around Jade could see Prof Bonet standing next to them, and the boy was sitting near her. Had he tried to drag her out of the room on his cloak? It seemed the only reasonable explanation.

"Thanks for saving us Professor, I don't know what happened but I'm sure things wouldn't have turned out well if you hadn't been there." Jade said in a hoarse, croaky voice from the smoke. "And thank you too, for trying to save me, as I'm sure you did from the look of things. I'm Jade by the way, Jade Murphy." Jade said to the boy whos name she didn't know yet.

"Professor are we going to have detention for this? Or not because it was an accident?" Jade asked not quite sure what the outcome of these events would be.

Jade just hoped that her headache would go away, it hurt so much! Jade tried massaging her head but that just made it worse. She decided to just rest her head on her hand and close her eyes as the light made it worse.

With the danger passed, BonBon was faced with two regretful first years. The Gryffindor Fenix was the first to speak up. He said the were practicing when they went overboard, which the head agreed. Of course, BonBon also saw the obvious implications of a boy and a girl practicing together. Boy meets girl. Boy tries to impress girl with magical prowess. So on and so forth. Yes, a tale as old as time. It certainly wasn't uncommon to hear such a tale when he was a boy. As a young Pukwudgie, he had been known to turn some runaway rats into teacups to gain favor with girls. Naturally, BonBon was sympathetic to Fenix's plight, even if that wasn't his intent.

"Yes, well, one should be mindful of one's surroundings," BonBon replied. "But now you know to keep the door open next time you practice your Fumos."

The other student was of his own House. Jade was thankful to both BonBon and Fenix for his efforts, but her worries immediately went towards the possibility of detention. At this, the head of Hufflepuff rubbed his chin and pondered. For several excruciating seconds, he kept quiet, as if pondering what terrible consequence would befall these poor students.

BonBon then broke into a grin and came up with a verdict. If he had waited any longer, the poor girl's head would have exploded from her headache!

"I think your near death experience was punishment enough. However, I do decree that you, Ms. Murphy, go to the Hospital Wing. And you, young sir, will be a gentleman and escort her there. Understood?"

His tone was not of a strict headmaster, but of a nostalgic elder who longed for the days of innocent youth. He hoped that this was the start of a beautiful friendship between the two.

"Yes, Professor."

Fenix stood up and helped Jade up from the floor. He then took his cloak up from the floor, dusted it off, and fastened it 'round his neck again.

 He recognized the professor as the Hufflepuff Head of House. Both Professor Bonet and his father, Lincoln, had a rather jovial air about them along with exquisite facial hair. Fenix supposed that must be common in Hufflepuff house. At first he wished he'd gotten that house because his father had also gotten that house (plus a ravishing beard is something Fenix has always fantasized about), but he accepted that the hat placed him in Gryffindor for a reason. He hadn't the slightest idea what the reason was, but he was sure it must be something good. At least he'd hoped it was.

Fenix looked at the girl again, curiously. How had she cast such a powerful knockback jinx?  She looked just his age! Fenix strives to be the best wizard  of his age and he welcomes the competition. Although this certainly does mean that Fenix needs to practice much harder if he means to surpass her ability.  That's fine, I suppose. Maybe I can ask if she'll practice with me.

"Do you need help walking at all?"
