Because I Was Broom Drifting

Because I was inverted. (Maverick Mitchell in Top Gun)
It was another day of flying class. Maverick actually liked flying, and this class was one of his favourites among the few, but he thought the lessons were too slow; they had not done anything challengingly fun such as flying in a loop or even speeding.
In addition, these school brooms were not cool at all. They were all old, slow, and worn; sure they were safe, but they would definitely fit into the definition of 'neither fun nor cool'. Maybe he had better learnt how to modify brooms and applied it to one of these brooms, the way his idol, the legendary number 46 rider, had done to his boring ApeCar vehicle his parents forced him to ride to stop the teenage Vale from speeding - why, that vehicle was meant for senior citizens and not fun young people!
He looked at the time. They still had a couple of minutes before the class started, so why not giving this a go? Not the broom modification of course, but perhaps he could have some fun. Maverick knew he was one of the best in this class in term of achievement, and to be honest, he quite enjoyed watching his classmates struggled (by his own standard). Come on, he was not a bad person, he just liked it when he could do something better than most other could, and thus earn himself admiration.
Pretending not to seek attention, but secretly hoping his classmates would watch without being asked to, the part-Veela mounted the nearest broom. "Up!" he told it, and afterward did a warm up lap. He stopped, but only because he pretended there was the starting grid, with the red lights on. Telling himself the lights were out, Maverick began to ride again, gradually increasing his speed, and suddenly made a successful Broom Drift. Putting on his proud-but-not-arrogant expression, he looked around, half-expecting to hear claps, cheers, or other expressions of awe.

This thread is open for all second years, but backdating to our characters' first year! Please let Linda Ramirez post first.

She looked around herself. There were some students standing everywhere nearby and school brooms, as usual ready for them to use during the lesson. It wasn't anything near the broom she had, but Linda was not a type to break the rules. Perhaps someone would consider it boring, but she was finding enough fun that didn't make her break rules or go out of been disciplined.
Not expecting anything extraordinary to happen today, however, Linda was annoyingly surprised to find Gryffindor boy to summon his broom. Before she could say anything, he already sped up and did Broom Drift. Looking up at him with nothing but annoyance and strong disapproval, Linda decided to wait for him to be again standing on the ground, meanwhile getting a lot of ideas for what to say.
What was even more annoying, is the look on the boy. As he was so proud of himself. Linda felt quite angry that most likely, there will be some who thinks it's something cool and surely will want to try to repeat. What was this guy's problem? Usually it wasn't that easy for Linda to get that annoyed, but she already was sure that they won't be friends. There's no way someone like this guy could be her friend.

─────Flying class was an exciting change of pace when compared to the classes that involved just sitting in a classroom and taking notes. Not that Landon hated those classes. He loved learning, and found that he liked most of his classes. But flying class was much more hands on and exhilarating. Even if they hadn't done too much with flying just yet. Landon didn't really have a ton of experience on a broom outside of class. His parents had given him a toy broom when he was younger, but he didn't get to do much other than hover above the ground a little. Landon quickly grew bored of the toy broom as a child, preferring to spend his time reading. He was always a bookish person.
Landon walked into the class area, choosing to stand by one of the school brooms. He was waiting patiently for the class to begin. He was excited by the idea of getting up into the air soon. He hadn't gotten to spend all that much time flying in flying class surprisingly, but he knew that they had just needed to learn the basics before they were allowed to really fly too much. He was looking forward to learning more. Maybe one day he would even play Quidditch!
Landon's blue eyes locked on a classmate who had been bold enough to get on a broom and fly before class had even began. He didn't believe in breaking the rules like this and he was worried the other student would get into trouble. However, he couldn't help but be impressed by the other student's skill. He wasn't cheering for him and his rule breaking, but he did have an expression of awe as he watched. Part of him was annoyed that the student was breaking the rules, but he wasn't one to chew people out for it unless it was affecting other people.

Because I Was Broom Drifting

Maverick rolled his forest green eyes at the lack of admiring claps. Seriously, what was wrong with those people? Could they not recognise pure talent at first sight?
The first year looked at the time for the second time in just a few minutes, and he was disappointed to find out that it would not be long before the flying class began. There would not be sufficient time to try and pull another stunt.
Searching for a place to land, he tried to console himself, saying inwardly that in addition to not having enough time, it seemed that there was no good he could get by attempting another broom trick today. Everyone around him seemed to be occupied or straight-up ignoring him, rejecting him for the mere reason that he was not good at initiating conversation to make friends. Rejecting him because he was different from them.
As a result, instead of fulfilling his goal of a consolation, the thought successfully fuelled his anger.
What stupid, close-minded, immature human beings he had around him. He bet they cared about no one but themselves, and people who showed interests in them. Hah! What did they have that could spark interest more than his talent? Definitely he had more in his little finger than they did in their whole body.
Maverick Castle landed on the ground, determined that he would not give them any positive attention unless they gave him first.

Now, she was pretty sure that if they happen to speak, they'll end up misunderstanding each other and becoming enemies. It made her feel more disappointed in addition to her anger about the fact that someone who can't do the same might try to repeat it.
Although it was not bad, I'm glad no one decided to try to repeat it. She said to no one particular. Linda didn't care if someone would reply or not, but she had to calm down quickly as she didn't want to think about it during flying. This boy would not make her favorite moment of flying destroyed.
Broom Drift surely required him to be good at flying, so this was the only thing Linda liked. But it was way too dangerous for him and for others. And honestly, despite the fact that Linda was quite good at flying, she wouldn't want to do something like this. Though, it must've felt quite great doing it.
After boy landed, she simply looked at him and didn't say anything more.
