History/Background Story: He was actually born in Trujillo, Honduras, before his parents immigrated to the U.S., settling in Oakland, California. He grew up speaking Spanish, English, and Garifuna, the languages of his parents. He's always been a bit weird, and took the label of "Black Sheep", or "Scapegoat" for himself. He's been told he's mature for his age, but really, it's only because he's been forced to learn and experience things many adults will never have to. He's dealt with the concepts of Racism, systematic oppression, brutality. and power imbalances from a very young age. Because of this he's grown up hating authority. He lived in a poor neighborhood and went to an old public school where he actually exelled. His parents didn't have much money, though, and they didn't have much options for him to get better education. He became obsessed with the punk subculture at 9, and at 10 came out to his parents as gay (mostly questioning because this kid is 10.) At this time, his parents had contacted his rich aunt who lived in Limerick, Ireland near a good school, and were planning to send him away anyway. After this, they sent him away and he became bitter thinking it was because of his identity. He arrived at his aunts home in Ireland, and he was rude to her out of spite which she didn't tolerate. She wasn't accepting at all and when he began to be interested in witchcraft (mostly crystals and moonwater, which didn't work for him at all), she would drag him to church every Sunday and get him cleansed with holy water. After his magical accident and the hogwarts staff person came to his aunt personally, she promptly changed her opinion, while still thinking it was wrong. She went along with the process, begrudgingly, but promised to stay by his side because she had promised his parents.

First Instance of Magic: At 10, after being forced to go to church and be cleansed by holy water, Balaam grew angry and rebellious. Almost every time they approached him with the water, he would throw it and knock it over. Growing tired, the priest had him have hands behind his back. Magically, because of his anger, he caused the water to boil, and the priest dropped it, thinking it was a sign of God. Balaam thought it was his prayer to his own gods being answered. When he learned of his magical abilities from the Hogwarts staff, he became ecstatic and so interested in joining Hogwarts. He couldn't be happier about the existence of Magic. But the progression of his life and journey was exponentially fast, and processing everything is difficult for him.

His name comes from the Mayan word for Jaguar, Balaam, the Xolo dog, and the indigenous last name linked to the Mayan god of rain and water, Tlaloc.
Nickname:Bala, short for Balaam and also means bullet in Spanish..
Color: He loves orange. It reminds him of sunsets and warm fire, staying out until the street lights come on and beckon him home.
Hates the color blue. Doesn't understand why it's the most popular favorite color. Despite all his love for the sea, he can't stand it. Its so bright and nearly blinding.
Animal: He really likes bats. He loves how amazing they are and finds beauty in their creepiness. But he thinks that if he were to be an animal, he would be a wolf, becUse of their social behavior and protective, nurturing instincts. Hates chimpanzees. They give him Uncanny Valley and they are evil.
Food: There's nothing better than a good ceviche with tostadas. Carne asada is a close second though...
Hates cake. Unless it's like triple chocolate. Doesn't enjoy bread too much.
Drink: Root Beer. He can't get enough of its vanilla and medicine-like flavor. Call him crazy, he don't care.
He hates coffee. It makes him feel sick and tired.

Abilities: Has fast reflexes and good balance. Can climb really fast and jump high (he lived in California so its a given.) Can distinguish people by their footsteps (the rules won't let me say why, but I think you know). He's a good dancer and is coordinated when he wants to be. Other times he's too distracted to care, and is subtle about his clumsiness.
