We Gotta Turn Up The Crazy
When you're not in the mood for a castle filled with people, or for climbing the tree that you had liked before in the gentle parts of early Autumn, then you can sit by the edge of the Great Lake and think.
Or you could do what Elena does by the great lake, which is hang out and make carvings, if a large stick came along she'd pretend to fight some evil darkness. The carvings themselves were taking up quite a bit of her backpack now, she'd have to move them soon. Maybe if she was really nice to a prefect she could request a little shelf for them, or just a shelf for anything really.
This little phoenix was being a pain, the wood was about right for a slightly iridescent sheen, but the feather patterns Elena thought of weren't what she really wanted. Damn it, until she came up with an idea the girl was stuck. So it was back to reading then, too cold to do anything else at this time of year. It made Elena wish for summer, until she realised she had no idea what to do over summer.
"Maybe I can sneak into a wandmakers and convince them I'm useful enough to stick around." Elena sighed, "I'd have about the same luck as with Griff."

We Gotta Turn Up The Crazy
You see, the thing is, there's a point that one reaches, where the painful memories that they used to want to forget, become more welcoming than the rest of the cold hard world. As if there was some sort of comfort or protection in the depression and regrets and sorrow. Maybe there was. All Landon knew, was that he was just a boy in a world that was too harsh to be hospitable.
Landon had reached that point. And there was no better place to return to drown in sad memories than the Great Lake. It, for Landon, personally targeted and haunted the boy. Because his brother...
A familiar glint of blue hair nearby caught the boy's eye, and he stopped his strolling through the sparsely spread oak trees near the shore of the lake to look closer. Elena Jones? The girl Landon had been an absolute jerk to, for lack of better words. Landon needed to stop that harmful behavior. But wasn't it easier than facing reality?
It had been Landon's plan to come to the lake and be depressed by himself as he longed for somewhere to be with the one person he would never be able to talk to again... But this was an opportunity to, maybe, right some of the wrongs.
"I think I owe you an apology..." he mumbled, quietly approaching the girl. His normal overconfident vibe was replaced with one of regret and genuine passion, but the cockiness was definitely still there in his smug grin. The boy really never could wipe that smirk off of his face.
Landon definitely didn't know what he was doing here.

Musing about the quickly falling amount of plans that seemed feasible was not the way to go with her mental processes, luckily someone decided to stop that, or at least to interrupt her. Either way it was a lucky moment.
A voice had drifted over, it had tones of true regret in it. Which made Elena all the more surprised when she looked up. Landon, the boy from the longest time ago, he still had the smug look on his face from when they'd met, but it seemed more like a default expression than his actual feelings at this point.
"Well." Elena patted the ground next to her, "I need to apologise too, I was a bit, well, annoyingly snarky. Then I was a bit... Yeah. I'm sorry Landon, I wasn't being nice."
It's true, Elena wanted to scare away anyone that seemed like they would make a good friend, and Landon had seemed nice, so a jab here, a jab there. Humour about where she came from was usually something she, oddly enough, found hilarious. So of course she had to scare him away as quickly as possible, if only they'd met one week later. When she wasn't so afraid of leaving the castle behind.

We Gotta Turn Up The Crazy
Landon sat down next to the girl on the ground, staring out onto the lake, his eyes stinging as he looked at the reflection of the bright sun on the crystal water. He quickly looked away, back to his blue haired company, to avoid any memories from coming back to torment him.
"I said I needed to apologize, not you, loser," he smirked, though it was more of a playful tease than an insult. "I'm sorry for being a jerk. I shouldn't have acted the way I did, I'm just way too reckless sometimes, I guess," he snickered shyly, awkwardly finger gunning to try and take away from the seriousness of his words, which quite honestly made him uncomfortable. He felt so vulnerable when he wasn't aggressively making jokes to cover up his insecurities. Landon wasn't good with serious, feeling-ish things. He felt much more natural in a chaotic setting.
The chaos usually had something to do with him, too. But it wasn't nice to take all the credit, right?
"But I'm the coolest person alive, so I'm automatically forgiven, right?" he asked with a wink. He was definitely willing to share that title with Elena if she wanted, though, as what fun was it to cause mischief if there wasn't a partner to create double the trouble?

"You're the loser, coming out here being all sappy." Elena joked, then looked back out over the lake, she understood the mood of the finger guns. Nothing like a good amount of terrible humour to disguise the fact you're haunted by inner demons right? Of course, very edgy Elena, nice one. Perfect.
"It's okay, I think a lot has happened since then. I'd say I barely remember it but since my sleep schedule was still mildly okay back then that'd be a lie." Elena punctuated that last bit as if it were a joke, because it was. A very edgy joke, likely due to the fact 11 Minutes was still going through Elena's head about a month after it should've gone. How long did Halsey last? Too long, that's the answer.
"Because I'm the second coolest person ever, I forgive you." Elena huffed out a smile, "So, do you want to talk about something absolutely meaningless before we all end up dying from awkwardness, or emotionalness, or edginess..."
"Or also just sappiness I suppose." Elena added, because sometimes her mind wandered in the middle of a sentence. Landon was definitely forgiven though, and it made her a little happier to know he was a friend.
