Lilac barely made it to the girls bathroom without crying, bursting into the first free toilet cubical, not looking to see if the bathroom was empty. Already crying Lilac thought Hogwarts was a total disaster she couldn't do anything right. Potions class always, almost ended in disaster on her behalf; she'd melted cauldrons, caused explosions and everything in-between. The rest of her classes weren't much better, ranging from sparks flying out of her wand in charms, to not being able to perform a single transfiguration spell. The only classes she seemed be decent at seemed to involve History or the stars. Worst still were the whispers about her "Muggle-born, doesn't know a thing." "Muggle-born hopeless case." She'd became a running comedy for her entire cohort. Sobbing rather loudly; she thought I don't belong here, I miss home Inis Mór (an island) she missed Inishmore her home town and Mr Fishers farm. Lilac thought this is pathetic, get a grip, surely magic would come more easily to her at some stage, maybe she was just a late bloomer; she sighed, she didn't have a problem on the island; all those accidental magic moments; caused the community to look at her as if she was strange. Could being homesick be affecting her ability to perform magic. She wiped away the tears and exited her cubical only to realise she wasn't the only one in the room. She hoped they didn't hear her sobbing.

The general idea of going to the bathroom was to leave as quickly as possible to somewhere she could sit down and chill out. Sadly Elena had absolutely frozen when she heard some girl sobbing her god damn eyes out in a cubicle.
A plan had formed, the plan was to leave, just leave. Obviously the kid hadn't noticed her there and probably wouldn't want to deal with someone prodding her with questions, which Elena was obligated to do if spotted. The plan had torn itself into little tiny pieces when the girl had come out, eyes red and puffy. A voice in the back of her head was telling her to jet, go talk to someone that cares about you, like Alan. Alan might need a hug, or Tal might. Hell, go talk to Griffith, that'd be better.
That little voice didn't win, at all, mostly due to Elena's inability to leave anyone that hadn't pissed her off alone, "Hey there kiddo, you okay? You seemed pretty upset..."
Oh god, Elena just called someone the same age as her 'kiddo', she must've been reading way too many books. Picking up mannerisms from characters was a bad idea, but hey at least she didn't pick them up from Griffith, don't want to scare the poor girl to death.

"Hey there kiddo, you okay? You seemed pretty upset..." A Slytherin girl was standing in front of Lilac; it was clear the girl had heard Lilac's crying. Lilac wiped away the remaining tears from her face, as she cleared her throat to speak.
"No, not really, I can't seem to do anything right in class, unless it doesn't involve a wand or a potion. I'm constantly referred to as the Muggle-born who can't do anything right."
Lilac wasn't sure if mentioning her background to the Slytherin girl was a good idea.
"Maybe I'm a late bloomer" She half-joked.
But her struggles in the classroom weren't the half of it; she was no closer to discovering which department of the Ministry Mrs Griffin was from or why she introduced Lilac to the magic world; it wasn't exactly the norm. She didn't know who her father was either; her only clue was that someone left a vault for her at Gringotts, leaving her to suspect he wasn't a muggle. She was beginning to feel all the mysteries in her life were somehow related.
She sighed and half-muttered "Too many problems to solve."
Only realising afterwards, she shouldn't have said that, she needed answers but wasn't exactly sure if asking the girl in front of her was the best idea. Lilac walked to the basin, and saw just how puffy her eyes looked, she really didn't want to walk out of the bathroom looking like that, but she couldn't stay here either.
"Sorry, you didn't need to hear all that." Said Lilac feeling slightly awkward, as she went to exit the bathroom.
(Feel free to stop me from leaving or chase me down the corridor)

That was a lot of information, it seemed a function of this school that every single child liked to throw up their entire life story five minutes after meeting you. Meanwhile Elena was pretty sure only five of her friends knew about her past, Bella Min and Rorie asked, Hugh got dragged into it, and Alan accidentally guilted Elena into telling. It's amazing what you can hide if nobody asks about it.
Then she ran off out of the room, but Elena called out, "Hey, wait. I have some sweet delicious one time only advice to offer you."
If the other girl stayed, or even paused long enough that Elena thought of it as an acknowledgement, then Elena would smile a little, "Just because potions and charms went wrong mean absolutely nothing kid. Just because you're a muggleborn also doesn't mean people should be that rude. Next time they act up, put them in their place. Snark and bite and make sure that insulting you is so unpleasant that they don't do it again."
Elena shrugged, "Take it from someone that knows for a fact they shouldn't belong here, if you're here, you do. It's just other people won't get their head out of their asses long enough to realise that."

"Hey, wait. I have some sweet delicious one time only advice to offer you."
Lilac stopped at the door, taken back slightly, she wasn't expecting advice.

Lilac wasn't the one to snark or bite, she was more gentle in her approach, but before she could reply the girl kept talking.
"Take it from someone that knows for a fact they shouldn't belong here, if you're here, you do. It's just other people won't get their head out of their asses long enough to realise that."
Lilac felt relieved someone who understood! She felt she could trust the girl "You don't feel like you belong here either! I thought it was just me; I miss home!" Lilac, paused for a bit before saying. "There is one thing bothering me, Ministry personal introduced me to the wizarding world, the lady came to my door one day. I feel like there is something I haven't been told."

Miss home? The other girl didn't quite understand the shadowed meanings behind her words, if it made her feel better though, what was the trouble in it.
"Lots of people are homesick, you just need to find them, you can talk about your bedroom and your favourite foods. Personally I love it here, better than where I came from or where I could go." Elena shrugged, "Another downside of not having a home."
"A ministry official introduced you? Y'all got a chauffeur? Damn I'm jealous, that's really cool." Elena pulled out a little carving tool that was still hanging in her cloak from earlier and fiddled with it, "Something you haven't been told? Is this a mystery I hear? Well, since my past ended up being a pile of disappointment and dead parents I will gladly follow you on this adventure if you'll have me. Every good fantasy story has a cunning street kid, what do you say?"
Well, as much as she was confused about people telling her their life story, it was kind of fun to use her's as an excuse to do something other than mope around. Strange ironies you know.
"Perhaps we should move to a different room, the lavatories aren't exactly where I'd want to stick around. You know, bad surroundings and all that." Elena waved the tool at the surrounding room, "The classroom a few floors down has a chalkboard you know, useful."

From what the girl was saying it seemed she wasn't the only one that was feeling homesick. However, Lilac was sadden when the girl spoke of not having a home. The girl did seem rather interested in the Ministry of Magic introduction though.

Lilac nodded in reply; although unsure if this was a good idea, but figured she needed some help in cracking the mystery.

Lilac smiled and replied. "Thank you, I'd really like some help, and the classrooms that be a great idea, but I honestly have no idea how long this will take to crack, we'd be in it for the long-haul, so with that being said are you still in?
Lilac putting her hand forward to shake on it, country style.
"My name is Lilac by the way." She said smiling. She had found a partner in crime it would seem, and together they'd get to the truth.

"Luckily I'm a long haul kind of person, loyalty and friendship can overcome any odds and all that fluffy stuff."The girl extended a hand, and Elena shook it with a lopsided smile. This new girl was nice, this should work well.
"Well this has been, without a doubt, the strangest thing to ever happen to me in a bathroom. It's good though, good strange." Elena put her carving tool back in her cloak and replaced it with a fold up pirate hat, which she put on, "I'm Elena, Elena Jones. I can talk your ear off about wandmaking, creatures, and which professors I like. I can also hit people with a stick, which is good because I have a stick in easy reach."
Elena pulled out her wand and spun it like a drumstick as if to demonstrate exactly what stick she was talking about, "I also have a much bigger stick hanging out in the dorms but we won't need that, for now at least. Made it myself."
Probably not the best sounding resume but it had charm. She thought, she hoped, it was a lot more overly excited then her usual demeanour but it appeared to be what the girl needed. Elena had to be an Alan in this situation, that would work best.
The Slytherin opened the door to the bathrooms and held it for her new friend, "After you my dear Lilac."

Elena did a demonstration of what she meant by a stick; Lilac wasn't so keen on resorting to such measures. However, if it came down to it she would defend herself. Elena continued to talk "I also have a much bigger stick hanging out in the dorms but we won't need that, for now at least. Made it myself."
Lilac had to admit the stick was kinda cool, Elena going to all that effort to make it herself.
"After you my dear Lilac." Said Elena as she gestured towards the door, and Lilac smiled as the pair headed to a nearby empty classroom. Finally thought Lilac she was going to get some answers. THE END
