The Duo Diaries
Dhamathi was a little worried. She has never been on a train before. She has both ochlophobia and claustrophobia. She was a nervous wreck and was shaking. She arrives at the King's Cross Station with her trunk and her wand which is tucked in her pocket. The station was bustling.
Time: 11:00 am

She needed to find Platform 9¾. She asked one of the faculties working there but he said there was no such platform. She suddenly heard a man calling out "Come along, the Hogwarts Express is going to leave soon!". She realized that was the train she needed to get on to. She ran up to the man and asked "Could you help me to get on to the train too?".
To which the man replied " Sure! You see this pillar which is between Platforms 9 and 10. To get through the barrier to the platform, you'd need to walk straight at the wall with confidence." She does as told and she sees an enormous magical steam train with the words "Hogwarts Express" up front.
She looks for an empty compartment to settle down in. She had to go across 5-7 compartments before finding the perfect compartment, and just as she was settling in, the door slid open.

A loud choo-choo sound is heard once again. After saying goodbye to her parents, Sere, who's only bringing a book and her favorite pencil now, approaching the Hogwarts Express, train that will bring the students to the Wizarding School. Her suitcase and also her bunny were placed in another carriage specifically for luggages. With confident steps, without looking back, Sere stepped into a carriage of a unique steam train, a transportation that rarely seen this days.
One step at a time, she took her way through the compartments. Sere looked through the window on the compartment doors and saw that several compartments were already filled with other students. Many of them are chatting, some are already asleep, and some other are busy with themselves. Is this carriage already full? There's no way I have to get off and look for another carriage, right? The train is leaving soon!
After passing about 7 compartments, Sere saw a compartment that had just been occupied by one person. Asian girl, just like her, but the girl's aura is much more elegant. Sere guessed that the girl has South Asian blood with her exotic skin and shiny hair. Is she alone in this compartment? Sere realized that she has to ask the girl directly, and this means starting a conversation. Ah, so I have to start introducing myself from here? Immediately? The anxiety and trauma from the past seemed to emerge from within her again.
Sere took a breath, then straightened her hair, before finally sliding the compartment door slowly with her right hand, "Hi! Umm... Do you mind if I join you? I haven't found any compartment yet." Sere hugged her notebook, "I'm Sere, Sere Nade. Nice to meet you."

Come in. My name is Dhamathi Suresh. Nice to meet you Sere. Wanna be friends? She reached out her hand while smiling, hoping the girl would shake her hand.
She received a handshake back with a warm smile. It’s my first time going to Hogwarts. Do you know stuff about magic? I don't know much but I'm eager to learn.
I don't have friends apart from the few people I met in Diagon Alley, I don't know anyone so... (shrugs) it's both exhilarating and... scary. Of course, I'm curious to make more friends with people like you. I just hope... I won't mess up anything.
Have you heard about the different houses? I found Gryffindor interesting. I don't know why but it caught my eye. Just think about it being called 'courageous' or 'an expert in chivalry'. I said dreamily.
Hey, should we wear our robes now? Or do I still have some time? Because my uniform is in my trunk. Sorry! I am a little talkative when I'm worried. I just silently put my head down. I need to stop talking. Stop talking. Dhamathi, she's going to think you're weird if you don't stop talking. Hopefully, the new girl doesn't find her weird and decides to stay.

Becoming friends? This fast? Could it be true? Sere blinked several times, feeling unfamiliar with this atmosphere. She was only stunned for a few seconds, then she nodded and returned the handshake of the girl in front of her, "Of course we can be friends. Again, nice to meet you, Dhamathi." Sere stepped into the compartment and sat opposite Dhamathi. She could see the train starting to move a few moments later. Phew, I'm right on time.
Once again, Sere blinked because she heard Dhamathi talking that much. It is not a bad thing, in fact this is something very interesting -something that feels so new for Sere- because the student in front of her is willing to try building a conversation with her. "You are a really good speaker, Dhamathi." Sere said it straightforwardly.
"All of this is also very new to me. I am a muggle-born. I don't know anything about magic and spells," Sere looked at the window, "I just want to restart everything, a new journey. That's the reason I am coming to Hogwarts."
Sere focused back at the crystal-blue eyes, "You will find many friends. I'm sure of that. You have the ability to develop conversation very well, Dhamathi. Many people will like you." Sere opened her mouth again, "I also hope the same: to not mess anything up."
This time Sere asked, "Dhamathi Suresh... Your have a very unique name. What does it mean? And also, can I ask this... Umm, are you a muggle-born too? You said you don't know much about magic."
Sere heard the word 'Gryffindor' for the first time, "I... don't know anything about Hogwarts and their houses. How many houses are there? Can you please explain it to me? You seem to understand this thing." Even though Sere doesn't know the houses, hearing the words 'courageous' and 'chivalry' makes her excited as if something is growing up inside her.
Sere shook her head about the robe question, "I'm not sure," Sere looked at the white jacket she was wearing, paired with long black jeans, "I think we should put it up immediately when we arrive. Many of the students wearing it now, did you see them when you come in earlier? I also put myself in the suitcase. I hope it won't cause any problem for us."

Dhamathi took a deep breath after she saw Sere was staying. She didn't want to lose her friend. She noticed that Sere was good with words. She was flattered by her compliment.

Well, then I'll try my best to make your journey at Hogwarts fun! And don't even worry you have your way with words. You can easily make friends. It's cool that you're a muggle-born! I am a half-blood. Half-bloods are those who have one parent who is a pureblood and the other a muggle. In my case, my dad was a pureblood and my mom was a muggle.
I have read a lot about the History of Hogwarts and other topics in my dad's library. There are a lot of books in his library.
The history of Hogwarts? Well... it all started in the 10th Century CE. It was when a magic school was founded by four of the most brilliant witches and wizards and the closest of friends of their time. The names of these four wizards are Godric Gryffindor, Rowena Ravenclaw, Helga Hufflepuff, and Salazar Slytherin. Hogwarts has 4 houses. You will be sorted into any one of these houses. This is based on your character. These 4 houses have the names of one of the surnames of any of the founders.
The first house is Gryffindor. Gryffindor is named after Gordic Gryffindor. The courageous students, those who value chivalry, and those who are bold get sorted into Gryffindor. The symbol of the house is a lion, so if you get sorted here, you're a lion. The second house Hufflepuff, is named after Helga Hufflepuff. The loyal students, those who value dedication, patience, and fair play get sorted here. You would be called a badger.
The third house is Ravenclaw named after Rowena Ravenclaw. The smart students get sorted here. If you are sorted here, you would be called an eagle. The fourth house is Slytherin. The cunning students, who are ambitious and determined get sorted here. But not all Slytherin students are cunning. If you're sorted here, you would be called a snake. Legend has it that the founders asked the sorting hat to choose the characteristics of each house. Oh! I completely forgot about the sorting hat.
The famous Hogwarts Sorting Hat sings a song every year on the day of sorting. The headmaster will call the names from a list. Each then will take a seat on a stool and the hat will be placed on their heads. Then they shall be sorted.
Throughout the year, the houses compete for the House Cup. The house cup is a competition in which students from all houses gain and lose points. If you have a good performance in class you earn a point and for rule violations, you lose a point. The house with the highest end-of-year total wins and has its colors displayed in the Great Hall for the following school year.
Just as I finished, the trolley witch came to the compartment. I didn't realize it was noon already. She offered us a selection of magical treats, and we both indulged in some Chocolate Frogs and Bertie Bott's Every Flavor Beans. We enjoy the scenery, the camaraderie, and the enchantment of the Hogwarts Express.

Sere was stunned after hearing Dhamathi's long explanation, "You are... really... good at talking." Once more Sere made this clear. "You gave me a lot of information. Thank you, Dhamathi." Sere added, "From your explanation, I think I will be placed in Ravenclaw. Considering that I always try to perfects everything related to my academics. But... I don't know, all the houses are actually looks good." Inside her heart, Sere hopes that she finds that house: where the 'brave' and the 'chivalry' takes her with them.
Sere thought, "You really understand the history of Hogwarts. You said earlier that you read your father's books in the library. Is reading your hobby?" Sere pointed to herself, "Me myself, I love reading. But I rarely read history books."
Sere leaned her back, feeling more relaxed, "You haven't answered my question regarding the meaning of your name. My name: Sere Nade, means beautiful melodic song. Oh, it also means 'the noble that everyone talks about' in Korean, my mom's first language. How about you?" In a few minutes, Sere follows Dhamathi and becomes talkative.
Sere saw a trolley filled with snacks approaching their compartment. She could see that Dhamathi took the pentagon-shaped-packaging chocolate and bean-shaped candy. Sere -again- follows Dhamathi. When opening the chocolate, Sere found that the chocolate is shaped like a frog, and it is immediately jumping off the package, startling her out, "OH MY! What is that?!" Her obsidian eyes are directed to Dhamathi, asking for an explanation about 'Why is there a living frog-shaped chocolate that jumping out of the package?'

Dhamathi noticed that Sere was warming up to her a little bit. She unknowingly smiled. She also felt a bit more happier to know she was talking with someone just like her.

Ravenclaw? Then you would be smart. They are usually the toppers. Yeah, I love reading. Whenever I was alone at home, I would read a book. You know a reader lives a thousand lives before he dies. I usually like fiction thriller books. What about you Sere?
My name means conqueror of the world. It's from Sanskrit. It's related to my star and my zodiac.
I started indulging in some Bertie Bott's Every Flavor Beans that I had picked up from the trolley. The first bean I got was a cherry-flavored one. I had just swallowed the bean when I heard Sere shout. I looked towards her and found her panic-stringently looking at the chocolate frog. I got up and caught the frog and kept it back in the box. Before you eat that, you should know that's not alive. That is just a chocolate molded into a frog which is spelled to act like it's real. You can eat it though. With all the chocolate frogs, you get cards having pictures famous wizards. Let's see who you got!"

Sere cleared her throat to drive out her surprise. She sat back down with back leaning to the seat. She didn't eat the Chocolate Frogs -she couldn't eat something that had just jumped in front of her eyes- instead, she moved the 'frog' and saw a bronze chocolate frog card. "It says Morgan le Fay." Sere looked at the card with a picture of a woman holding a yellow trident with a greenish glow. Sere read the description on the backside of the card. Ow, dark sorcerer and King Arthur's half sister. Interesting.
Sere has also heard about 'readers live a thousand lives before they die', "I attempt to read everything I could. At first, I read books because my parents forced me to, but eventually I got used to doing it. I read academic books on daily basis. Fiction and non-academic is a bonus that I love to read in my spare time or when I feel like needed an entertainment." Sere is indeed that serious-bookish type.
"The meaning of your name is so beautiful, Dhamathi," Sere thinks for a moment, "It sounds very... brave." She yawned before continuing, "It seems like you'll actually get Gryffindor as your house. Maybe you are meant to be in that house." Sere put the Chocolate Frogs and Every Flavor Beans that she had been holding to the empty seat on her right. "I'm sleepy. Let me take a nap."
Sere leaned her head to the left side, towards the compartment's window that showed a beautiful view. That was the last thing she saw before closing her eyes, preparing her energy to write the 'chapter one' on her new journey when she arrived at Hogwarts, soon. The prologue is already written now, I wonder how chapter one will start.
