It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas
December 24th, 2023. Lucy, her parents and her half-brother were standing in front of the door of the Lefèvre residence. It was a cosy Alsatian house, in a small village. It was almost 7pm and the Hendricks had been traveling all afternoon. A train from London to Paris, another from Paris to Strasbourg and a last one from Strasbourg to Bischwiller. They then took the bus from the train station to the closest stop to the Lefèvre house. In total, almost 6 hours of train, bus and waiting, and here they were, the four of them, in front of their final destination.
Before Lucy could ring the bell, the door opened on a dark-haired boy, slightly taller than the girl. It was Théo, her best friend. A huge grin lit up both their faces. It only had been a few months since they last saw each other but to them, it felt like ages. The boy hadn't really changed since their last encounter: he had grown a little bit, his hair was a little longer and fluffier and his freckles had disappeared because of winter. Lucy just hopped that his personality hadn't change and that their complicity would be the same as before.
— You guys finally arrived! Mom, dad, they're here! Come on in, just, take of your shoes in the entrance please.
Lucy took of her shoes and followed her best friend upstairs, her satchel on a shoulder. Now inside of a heated home, she was starting to feel a bit hot with her long winter coat. To be fully honest, she had been stressed for this moment to arrive. This moment were the duo would finally be back together. She had been scared, had been thinking that maybe he had made better friends in Beauxbatons, or that their friendship would have faded. But she was relieved because she had the feeling that nothing had changed between them and that was her biggest Christmas wish.
— So, this will be your room for the week. You'll have to share with Sam.
The room, the largest of the house, had two full sized beds and Lucy walked to the furthest one to the door. On the entire floor, the slats made comforting creaks at every step. Next to the bed she had chose was a long cabinet made of boxes and drawers, a few left empty for her to put her stuff. The blinds were already closed but the girl knew that it had a very nice view on sunsets and this part of the village. Lucy sat down on her self-assigned bed and invited Theo to sit next to her.
— So, Beauxbatons. I want the lore, the tea and the people, she said with a grin. How big is the castle? Did you made friends? Any drama?

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas
Just when he was about to answer, he heard his mother calling him, Lucy and his sister Amélie to come downstairs for the apéro. The boy stood up, told his friend that he would answer during dinner and went to knock on his sister's door. The three kids went down the stairs and into the living room, Théo first and Amélie last. In the living room, Lucy's parents - Sophie and Eliott - were sitting with the boy's mother - Juliette - on a couch, while Sam - Lucy's brother - was sitting on the carpet, a pretzel in hand and his father - Victor - was opening a bottle of wine in the kitchen. The two friends settled on the other couch. Amélie went into the kitchen and came back with glasses and some sliced cucumbers. A few instants later, Victor entered with a bottle of red wine, some sparkling water and some lemon water.
Rain and wind were quite strong on this Christmas eve. Every ten to fifteen minutes, you could hear thunder and sometime see lightning. The city's lights and decorations were dimly glowing in the dark. There was a strict "no big-light" policy in the Lefèvre house, the kitchen and basement being the only exceptions, so the living/dining room was bathed in soft golden light from the Christmas tree and the multiple candles, fairy-lights and sophisticated lamps you could find in the room. A jazz record was playing in the background. The atmosphere was relaxed, the group was talking about life, school, work, they were laughing. Lucy almost came to tears when she learned about that particular event of Théo's life, Sam was practicing his french with Amélie and the parents were discussing work and politics.
— I promise you, that's how it happened! He said that, word for word!
— That shit's so funny. Like, how? I don't think anything like this happened in Hogwarts. Amélie, did something like this happened?
— Let me think... Yeah, actually, something like that happened to a fifth year I think.
Conversation went on, it was now almost 8:30 and the group finally moved on to dinner. Sophie went to put a very sleepy Sam to bed and came back a few minutes later. Lucy and Théo had catch up on one another's life. They sat down following the sitting arrangement and dinner started. A salad, followed by a raclette. They would finish with a Yule log, fruits and some Alsatian biscuits. During the whole dinner, the would continue talking and laughing, the adults on one side and the teens on the other. Time to time, Amélie would interact in the adult discussion. By 10:30, everyone was full, which meant : card games until midnight.

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas
In this exact moment, everything was perfect. Amélie was actively accusing her brother of cheating, Théo was explaining how he, in fact, wasn't. Lucy was just laughing at the scene, a hot apple juice glass in a hand, cards in the other. Théo's father was yawning because it was already 11:50 and the rest of the parents were smiling and taking part of one or the other Lefèvre sibling. Two bottles of wine had been opened and drunk by the four adults and the noise level was starting to get quite high. Or at least, high enough for Sam to wake up and come downstairs, in his "In the Night Garden" pyjamas.
— You do to much noise! I want to sleep!
— Oh, I'm so sorry sweetheart, said Sophie, standing up to take her son in her arms. We were just finishing this game before going to sleep, because tomorrow we are all going to have gifts from Santa!
— Hey Luce, whispered Théo. Did you know Santa actually have many name like you, me, mom, da-
Amélie glared at her brother and kicked hir leg with her foot. She mouthed a "not cool" and he rolled his eyes. And Lucy was thinking like Amélie, it was not cool to insinuate the non-existence of Santa Claus in front of a three year old. Thankfully, Sam was still half asleep and did not catch Théo's words. He was now siting on his mother's laps and he was rubbing his right eye with his fist. The atmosphere had calmed down, and the group wrapped up the game. Juliette won. Nobody was surprised since she was a literal genius and she was the one who introduced this game to her family.
— Ok, ok. Kids, go to bed and before that, put you're gifts below the Christmas tree. Adults, either the after-party or to bed.
As a tradition, Lucy, Théo and Amélie said "Oui chef! A vos ordres chef!" in one voice. It was a tradition ever since the two first years had been best friends, so it was quite old. The three teenagers went to their respective bedrooms and came back, each with a pile of presents. Then, as Juliette had commanded, they went to sleep, but not before a whispering karaoke of Christmas songs between Lucy and Théo. Went she went to sleep, the girl's zygomatic muscles were aching because of how much she had laughed all evening. That evening had been the perfect Christmas eve and reunion with her best friend.
