A Great and Terrible Morning
Minnie looked around at her bed, wondering how she had gotten there. Oh yeah! I'm at Hogwarts. She thought brightly. But I'm a Hufflepuff. Someone's gonna see me. And that someone is my sister. How am I going to take it? I don't know what I'm going to do. She thought more gloomily. No. Today is going to be a good day. Try to talk to some roommates-or other tables. I could make a few friends today and lose that "I can't make friends" face. She told herself forcibly.
While going down a staircase to the great hall, the staircase moved. "Whoa! I love magic. And to think I've been seeing it my whole life without the knowledge of moving staircases! This is awesome!" She said to herself. She then found the right staircase to go down to the great hall for breakfast.
"Oh sweet canary creams. This is so amazing!" She uttered as she took in the great hall in the morning. The sky was bright and merry, and the tables were full of food. The night sorting hadn't done it justice. This is a sign that today will be good. She smiled and sat down at the table. She chose some bacon, eggs, and toast with marmalade for breakfast. It tasted amazing, and the day got better when owls came streaming in. "Oh wow." She said breathlessly. No one had told her about this. They probably hadn't wanted to ruin the surprise. But before she could do anything else, a shout came from the Slytherin table.
"Hey Minnie! What are you doing with the Hufflepuffs?" It was her sister, Lil. Oh no. Minnie thought. "Oh Merlin's beard, are you a Hufflepuff? I knew it. The dishonor to our family is you." Minnie's face burned. There goes a good day. Minnie ran out of the great hall to fits of laughter from the Slytherin table. She would have gone to class, but she realized she had forgotten her books. This on top of everything? She thought, frustrated. She went back to grab her books, but banged into someone. "I'm so sorry!"

A Great and Terrible Morning

Boston had come to love Hogwarts more than anything. She loved the way the candles floated, the way the paintings watched you pass and made for great conversations. She loved the ghosts, she loved talking to them too. She's had some interesting conversations with things that shouldn't be alive, something that was never possible if she was actually a muggle. Everytime she remembered how lucky she really was, her heart lept.
She stopped by one of her favorite paintings on the way to breakfast to update them on life. The painting had come to recognize her, and gave her a sweet smile as she approached. Mid conversation, Boston's stomach rumbled so she excused herself and headed to eat. As she entered, she couldn't help the wave of awe she felt. It never got old to her. The Great Hall reminded her of an old church, a beautiful thing. Just had some stained glass and it really would have been perfect. She heard some laughter from the Slytherin table but ignored it. She's heard that at one point, slytherins were super mean. But every slytherin she has met is super sweet, and she rather liked them. They were smart too, and honestly very funny.
She heard her name and she turned to wave as she walked, feeling someone slam into her. Boston reached her arm out and turned to look at the same time. She stepped back and nearly tripped over herself, but managed to steady both herself and this girl. She looked the girl up and down, taking in her petite appearance. She fought the laughter rising in her throat. "Woah woah, where's the fire?" And at that, she let out a laugh. She honestly found herself so funny. She adjusted herself, collected her composure, and smiled at the girl. "It's ok, are you ok?"

A Great and Terrible Morning
A girl was smiling at Minnie. Oh. It's not Lil. I guess she's not mean enough to be mean to me. She really is awesome, but who would like a Hufflepuff? Minnie stared blankly at the girl for a few seconds before realizing she should probably answer. "Um....I-yeah?" She told the girl very unconvincingly. "I just had a bad day. Or a bad morning really." Ginger newts, this is embarrassing! She thought.
Minnie took a good look at the girl. The girl had dark eyes and hair. The girl's hair was a shade of brown that looked quite nice with her bangs. I should ask her her name. It feels silly to call her the girl. "So, what's your name? I'm Minnie. And I really am fine. Just a tad bit embarrassed." Minnie then walked back into the great hall to grab her books. "Oh nuts. Where did I put my books?" She found them at the Hufflepuff table and scurried back to the girl. "So...who-how are you?" Minnie stopped herself mid sentence. I don't want to seem rude. She thought to herself. She looks to be a nice person, and I don't want to upset her. Minnie waited for the girl's answer.

A Great and Terrible Morning
Boston raised an eyebrow at the girl, unconvinced. She could tell this girl was stressed over something, it might have been the way she was rushing out. She tilted her head at the girl. "Oh! Well, that's ok!" She hesitated, then rested her hand on the girls shoulder. "A bad day- or morning- isn't the end of the world." She gestured to the table next to them and made a few students move over so she could sit. She was going full therapist mode for this one. "Wanna tell me why? I mean maybe we can fix it. I don't think running into people can solve your problems, unfortunately. I wish it did." She laughed, hoping to make the girl laugh as well. "I mean, life would be so much easier right?"
Boston grinned at the girl. "Boston! Like the donut. What about you?" The girl introduced herself as Minnie, and Boston held her hand out to shake. "Like the mouse!" She made an odd face. "Sorry. Muggle reference." She raised her eyebrows at the girl and looked around confused. "Books..?" Was Minnie carrying books when she bumped into her? Boston couldn't remember. She stood up quickly to help Minnie, but the girl scurried off. "Oh ok.."
The blonde girl came hurrying back and Boston looked amused. She pointed into the hall. "I was on my way to eat if you wanna sit with me. I'm good, a bit tired since I was writing letters last night." She gave a humerous grin. "You magic folk will never know the pleasure of typing messages, It's SO much easier"

A Great and Terrible Morning
Minnie smiled a bit confusedly at that statement. Typing letters? What does that mean? Don't you always write them on parchment? She suddenly had thousands of questions about the muggle world. "Um...what?Typing letters? What do you mean by that? I've only ever written letters." She was so confused about what Boston was saying. "And what do you mean, Minnie like the mouse? I was named after my grandmother, Minerva." She scrunched up her face, trying to understand muggles. Muggles are so weird. She thought.
Minnie then realized she'd been offered an opportunity to sit with the girl. "Um...like at the Ravenclaw table? Because I'm a Hufflepuff. And I don't want to intrude on the table?" She didn't want to offend Boston. "But I would love to. Thanks for asking?" She grinned, happy someone had noticed her. "I just had a bit of a bad run in with my sister, who's generally very nice and popular. But I mean...thanks for being nice to me as I felt not amazing a bit ago. You're really nice, you know?" Her grin turned into a big smile. This girl was being really awesome right now, and she hoped that now since Boston had told her that she could sit with her, that they were friends. "Now, back to the subject of muggle stuff."
