A Circular Room With Edges
The owlery was full of quietly chirping owls, just as it always was. A certain eleven-year-old girl, turning twelve in April, could be found there in most of her free time. Just sitting on a windowsill, careful not to fall out, and listening to the soft birdsong. Her caramel hair was resting barely in her face, and her golden-hued eyes darted around the room, searching for a sweet feathered
friend. Her pale fingers clutched the edge of the windowsill, and if one looked, they could tell she was a Slytherin by the crest on her robes.
It would be spring soon. Spring was when everything bloomed. Beautiful pink flowers, bright blue sky, gorgeous green grass... And of course, allergies.
Koko watched boredly as another owl flew into the owlery. It was a tawny one; its feathers seeming soft and luscious. Koko felt a small urge to stride over to it and pet it, but she didn't want to scare the creature. In a way, she felt like she couldn't wait until she could take Care of Magical Creatures--but on the other hand, she didn't need any more classwork. What she had now was already overwhelming!
Another small chirp resonated, as the tawny owl stood next to her. It was a petite breed; a Burrowing Owl. Burrowing Owls would make for very adorable pets, but Koko didn't really trust herself with a pet. It might be too much work for someone like her. However, she did enjoy visiting the birds. They always seemed somewhat sympathetic and kind to whatever student walked in. These friends of hers didn't berate her for being sorted into the noble house of Slytherin. No, they welcomed her just as she was.
And she came as a friend. It was the only place she would feel at home, other than the Slytherin dormitories. She was slowly making more human friends, but she did find that she identified with the birds more. It was a quiet time, a sanctuary, a place where no one could bother her.

A Circular Room With Edges
Lallie was walking around the grounds of Hogwarts. She loved walking around the outdoors during this time of year. Not warm enough that she would be sweating, but not cold enough to freeze her toes. This was her favorite time of year, right before her least favorite time of year. She took a deep breath in knowing that soon her allergies would prevent her from smelling anything.
She stepped into a closure finding the West Tower. She smiled with the thought of her adventures there. Where she made her first friend at Hogwarts, where she opened up to someone for the first time...where she got her first detention. Lallie felt the urge to go visit those memories.
Lallie stepped into the owlery where the crisp smell of the outdoor air was replaced by a musty one. She didn't mind though she liked the scent.
She went over to a bird that was sitting at its perch. She cocked her head, the owl cocked its back. She knew better than to touch it, she didn't know who the bird's owner was, she did smile at it though. She always loved birds, they were the perfect animal. Curious, but careful, aggressive, but sensitive. She liked all animals, but this was probably one of her favorites.

Hearing footsteps, Koko glanced upwards to see a red-haired girl just now walking into the owlery, seeming lost in thought. She was a Gryffindor, or at least that was what Koko could tell from the crest on her robes. Maybe they were stolen... Oh, that was a good idea. She'd been trying to get a detention for a while--she didn't want to seem like a Goodie-Two-Shoes. Maybe stealing someone's robes ought to do the trick! She could pretend to be a Gryffindor for a week.
The Gryffindor stepped towards one of the birds and cocked her head. The bird followed, making Koko suppress her laughter. She enjoyed watching these birds communicate with the humans who interacted with them. Koko lifted her arm to scratch an owl's head; it ducked its head and nuzzled her. Koko did have a note that she wanted to send, but she wasn't sure if it was the right time to send it.
The Slytherin realized that the Gryffindor girl was still there, and she finally decided to start up a conversation. "Hello. I'm Koko. I take it you like owls?" For a moment, Koko wished there was a cat in here, one that she could pet. However, a cat would be more likely to eat the owls, so she ruled that idea out. She stood up, stepping off of the windowsill and she leaned against the wall as she took a few steps away from the window.

OOC: I'm sorry my response is so shabby and late! I'm behind on math homework at school, and I still have a few projects I'm working on. I'll try to make less of a wait, but I can't make too many promises.

Lallie started a bit in surprise when she heard the girl's voice. She always assumed she was alone in the owlery, but she was proven wrong once again. She turned to face the girl and suppressed her laughing at the irony. The girl standing before her was a Slytherin. All we need now is detention from a Ravenclaw perfect. Lallie thought smiling.
"Oh hi. Yea I do," Lallie said to who she now knows as Koko, "This one owl reminded me of one I have back at home." Lallie smiled remembering Josie. When she was little her parents had gotten Lallie and her brother each their own owl. Her brother's owl is a little barn owl he named Georgie. Josie is a very beautiful snow owl. She kept her as more of a pet and never really sent letters on her since all of her wizard friends lived nearby.
She realized that she hadn't introduced herself after Koko did. "I'm Lallie by the way." She wondered how Koko spelled her name. Was it spelled "Coco" as they do in Spanish families, or "Koko" like they do in Japanese and Native American families? Koko didn't really look like any of those ethnicities, but she could be wrong.

Oh don't worry about it. I'm not the best with quick responses either

Lallie... That's her name... Koko tried to commit the name to memory. Koko nodded before replying; she needed a moment to think. It would be nice to know someone who liked owls... Not many people cared about the... well... caring aspects of the critters--most of the people she'd met had only cared about the fact that owls were used as a postal service.
Koko fiddled with her wand, which she had drawn out of her robe. She wasn't nervous; no, she just had a bit of energy after sitting still for so long. She ran her fingers across the owl's soft feathers, or at least the fingers that weren't around her wooden stick. It was still hard to belive that people needed wands to do magic, even though she'd been around magic folk her entire life. "So," she said, keeping her voice level as to not scare the animals, "Do you have a favourite breed of owl?" Perhaps she could get to know her companion through the asking of questions. Koko was very inquisitive; she hoped that it wouldn't get on Lallie's nerves. The Gryffindor was smiling, and she seemed to be at peace, so Koko let a warm smile spread across her own cheeks. Koko sometimes wished that there was electricity at Hogwarts, but she was fine without it. She only missed Spotify...
Koko had to admit that she might have been a little nervous. She never did as well around people as she did around animals. That was something she preferred very much about animals--they never judged you. Or at least, they were never vocal about it. Lallie seemed to be questioning something, but Koko decided that instead of asking her what she was wondering, she would instead see if the other student voiced her question(s). The Slytherin leaned back, still smiling, and closed her eyes in a rare feeling of happiness.

Lallie thought about Koko's question. She never really thought about it. All the owls were nice in there own way. There's the snowy owl's elegance, the scops, and elf owls' adorable shortness, the eagle owl's majesticness. She guessed it would have to be the tawny owl. They had such beautiful feathers and they were always such proper and mature birds. "Probably tawny owls. They have such beautiful feathers and are just so mature," she responded noticing how happy Koko looked, "How about you?"
She felt slightly awkward having a conversation with this girl all while being so far away so she made her way towards Koko. Not wanting to feel intrusive, but also not having a giant inconvenient gap between the two of them she left four steps of room between them.
Getting up closer to Koko now she noticed the way she spun her wand in her fingers in what seemed to be a nervous fashion. Was Lallie making Koko uncomfortable? She hated making people feel uneasy around her. She could tend to be a bit intrusive or energetic at times which did lead to some people getting anxious around her since they weren't used to that level of energy. She stepped back one step just to make sure she wasn't making Koko uncomfortable by being this close.

[quote]Koko listened to the response that Lallie gave her. Tawny owls. She could see the appeal, but they weren't her personal favourites. "To be honest, I prefer Barn Owls. Tyto Alba. They're so underrated." Koko stayed silent for a moment before taking a deep breath, inhaling the musty scent of the Owlery. She could see Lallie making her way towards Koko. The Slytherin didn't really know how to feel--was the other girl wondering how Koko felt, calculating her actions? Probably not, but Koko didn't want to take any chances. Lallie took a step back, and Koko wondered if she had made Lallie feel uncomfortable. She hoped not.
"Sorry i-if I'm doing anything w-wrong," the nervous girl stammered. She adjusted her robes on her shoulders, the knowledge that she couldn't afford a smaller size making her cheeks redden. She didn't really want to be embarrassed in front of someone she hardly knew. And her stuttering. It pained her to realise how she might come across. Usually, it was either antisocial or socially awkward. While she may not have been antisocial, she certainly was the latter. Koko shook her head anxiously, looking at Lallie. "Really, I don't mean to be this awkward." Koko shot Lallie a nervous smile, and then she folded her hands in her lap, her feet moving instead of her hands. "So, would you say you're more of an introvert or an extrovert?" she asked after a moment's pause.
