Just Walking
Willow smiled at Jam's enthusiasm- it was really nice that they had so much in common. There was something about the other Ravenclaw girl that made Willow feel comfortable and happy, and she liked spending time with her. She hoped that their friendship would last all the way through their years at Hogwarts!
The snow was letting up, though the grounds were still coated in the thick layer of frosty powder, which probably wouldn't fully go away until winter was over. The girl pushed her red hair from her face, a sure sign that she was enjoying herself, because she usually hid behind her tresses so that nobody would see her face or try to talk to her.
"Guitar is really cool! My dad plays guitar. He doesn't do it very often though, because he works a lot," she said. It was sad but true; even when she was at home she didn't get to spend as much time with her father as she liked because he always seemed to be busy. Maybe she should write to him, it had been about a week since she last had. "Mam plays violin too, she taught me." Willow added.
The snow was making her feet chilly, so Willow picked up the pace a little to try to warm up her toes inside her boots.
"What do your parents do?" She asked. She knew that Jam was a half-blood like her, but she wasn't sure which one was the muggle and which one was the wizard or witch. Her usually pale cheeks were pink from the weather as she waited for her friend's response.

I've lived a thousand lives and I've loved a thousand loves. I've walked on distant worlds and seen the end of time- because I read.

Just Walking
Jam stuck both her hands into her pockets, fiddling with the inner fabric as she huffed out a visible breath of air. “I’d love to hear you play one day, maybe we can play together - like a duet of sorts!” It was truly an exciting idea, as the girl had never had the opportunity to play with anyone else. She longed to be in a band where she could create pleasant melodies with good friends. This could be the start of something new and exciting for her, which she was glad to see where it takes her in the future.
Shifting her focus to Willow’s question, Jam realised she hadn’t talked much about her family to the redhead. It was a little odd, since the brunette was usually quite vocal about how much she missed her family, and would go on and on describing her experiences and traditions back at home to her poor friends.
“My father is a wizard. He was the one who got me excited for Hogwarts in the first place. When he married my mother, he decided to come work in the muggle world as a bookstore owner. Sometimes he would slip in fictional stories he had written on his own to his customers as a gift, sharing his own experiences as a wizard. Of course, nobody knew what he wrote was autobiographical, but it’s nice to put our experiences out there for the world to imagine.”
“My mother has and always been a muggle. She’s a nurse but she really loves music, which made her pursue a side gig as a singer! She mainly does shows in restaurants and clubs, but she loves what she does. I like to think I’m a little like her, since I love music as well. It’s unfortunate, though, that I’m not as close to her as I am to my father, but that’s just how it is.”
Jam noticed her friend speeding up in the snow. She quickly understood why, when her own feet itched to move quicker, as if trying to escape the thick blanket of snow underneath her feet. Tugging on Willow’s sleeve, Jam proposed, “How about we continue this conversation inside? As much as I’d love to continue this walk, the snow is already biting my feet, and I’m sure you feel the same as well. You can tell me about your family next, if you’d like. Preferably inside…”

Chasing dreams (and deadlines)

Just Walking
Willow tucked her scarf more securely around her neck, thinking that Jam was such an easy and comfortable person to talk to, and the redhead didn't feel shy at all. In fact, she found herself grinning quite a lot despite the cold.
"Oh, me mam's a muggle nurse too!" She said. Her mother was a lovely woman, but a bit of a worrywart, and had insisted that Willow bring a first-aid kit with her in her school trunk. "Dad's a worker at the ministry, I honestly don't know exactly what he does. He works a lot, though," She added a little sadly. The girl had always been very close with her father and missed him a lot. It seemed that even when she was home she didn't see him much- that's why she was so looking forward to the winter holidays to spend with him.
"I'm the youngest of five, but my older siblings aren't very nice," Willow said wryly. It was true that her siblings liked to tease her often and she wasn't exactly sad to not see them much anymore, as they were all Slytherins, and one had already graduated Hogwarts. It resulted in more peace and less frustration in her life.
Jam suggested they head to the warm indoors of the castle, and Willow agreed with her friend completely. "You're right, it is freezing out here. Would you like to go up the the common room, and get warm by the fire?" She blinked snowflakes out of her eyes and smiled at the other girl. There was nothing like a good friend to warm you up on a cold day!
