The Phantom of the Hogwarts Grounds Open

It was getting dark when Matt ran onto the grounds. He was hoping that no one had seen him. The evening air was crisp and cool. He saw the forest ahead of him. He intended to do a prank that would hopefully go down in Hogwarts history. He had his black robe on, and in his pocket, he had a little something that would help. He knew that an astronomy class was at midnight, so he needed to prepare.

He waited outside the castle, hiding. If any teachers caught him, he would probably be dead. As night fell, it got much colder. He put on his winter coat and rubbed his hands together.  As the sun set and the stars glittered in the sky, Matt smiled. Showtime.

He sprinted across to the edge of the forbidden forest, and he put the coat behind a tree and pulled out the 'something' he needed.  He pulled out the vial of an orange potion. Perfect. He looked at the astronomy tower, and just like he heard some other students say, the lights were on. Soon they would look through their telescopes to look at stars. All he had to do was get their attention.

He pulled out his wand and held it in one hand with the potion in the other. The lights turned off. Time to go.

He pulled to the stopper out of the bottle and downed the whole thing. He coughed a bit, and he felt his head getting a little... hard. His eyeballs felt like they were getting bigger, and his long hair was going back into his head. Then it stopped. Matt felt his head. Hard. He looked around and saw a puddle. He looked at his reflection in the water. A Jack 'O' Lantern stared back at him, shining through the darkness. "Wow," Matt said softly. The pumpkin looked really real. He must have done a good job on the potion.

Now, time for phase two.

Magic is simply a miracle unexplained by science

Howie stood at the edge of the Forbidden Forest, staring into the dark depths of the trees. He found himself here quite frequently these days, finding that it was a perfect place to be alone and think. Especially at night when children’s imagination tended to run wild. There were certain dangers in these woods, but Howie felt quite confident sticking to the outskirts.

A rustle nearby caused Howie to jump, his hand instinctively reaching for his wand. He must have gone too far, or attracted some unknown predator. The boy spun around on the spot, looking for any sign of danger, racking his mind for the best defensive spells he could remember. Out of the corner of his eye he spotted movement, this was it, showtime. Whipping around he pointed his wand and prepared to make his move.

A smile spread across his face, laughing softly to himself. Spooked by another student. He watched as the smaller, long haired boy scurried about. What could he be up to? Howie crouched down and gave follow. The boy removed his cloak pulling from it a small vial. After taking a moment to stare at the castle, he downed the bottle. The effect was almost immediate, his hair shrunk back into his scalp, his skin turning orange and expanding outwards as his head turned into a pumpkin. Wicked!

Not wanting to scare the other kid, Howie called out in a hushed tone. “Hey! Whatcha doin?”

Jenni sat motionless as the wind blew, her hair brushing against her face. She was often found sitting against a tree near the edge of the Forbidden Forest. She found the shadows easy on her eyes, and she loved the silence. Only the soothing sound of the wind blowing softly against tree was all she could hear. For now, she was happy. Glancing down at her lap, she fiddled with her quill. Her father and brother expected her to write home every week.

Dad and Alex,
It's only been a few weeks since I've been at Hogwarts, but I already miss home. I have a few friends, but I feel quite lonely. At times, I just wish I was home. Home with you both. Other than that, I hope you both are well.
I look forward to break. Wish me luck...
Love,
Jennifer Rome

Folding the letter, Jenni sighed and began to daydream. But this didn't last long. She was startled by a loud noise from her left. Jenni slowly stood up, and took her wand out. Better be safe than sorry, right? She walked towards the source of sound and sighed. It was two boys. One with their skin turning into an orange color, and another looking as if he was going to attack. Jogging towards them, Jenni managed a weak smile.

"Ah, you better have a good reason to turn yourself into a pumpkin." Jenni said, looking down at the boy. Glancing to the other, she glared at him and asked, "Did you encourage him to do this?"

"If you ain't scared you ain't human."
