Elsi had surely noticed how run ragged and exhausted Dori was, and they tried to wave it off with lies about studying and projects before the winter break. But in reality they were staying up late every night in preparation for this grand gesture that they had been planning since the beginning of December. The boy that had always given them the greatest of gifts for every holiday and birthday, and seemed to drag Dori's bitter heart back into a light they hadn't seen it in... in well, a long time. At least for being 15 years old. In a fourth year full of angst and self-hatred, Elsi was ever-present in just being around in a way that was undeniable for Dori. And after the past couple months of close calls and pining, they realized- against all of George's wishes- that they liked Elsi. Like liked him. So, for a boy that loved Christmas Dori planned his own twelve days of Christmas, with 800 or something less birds. Especially since Dori had a cat, not an owl.

The first gift had been the easiest. It was surprising to Dori to realize that they had never gifted a friendship bracelet to Elsi. They had met long before Dori had started the tradition to force people to be their pseudo-friend, so they wondered if that's why Dori never felt the need to give him one, because their friendship was the foundation of their existence at Hogwarts, and something they didn't need a physical object to remind them of. Instead, it was ever present. But, still it was the basis of the 5-year relationship they had now. And it served as a reminder that no matter how this went, they would and could always return to being friends. Which was really the one thing that had held them back for so long, ruining their friendship. But it seemed that the undeniable crush was beginning to gnaw at them more than they could handle.

So there they were at the front of the Great Hall to kick off the next twelve days of gift-giving and groveling and hoping that at the end of it Elsi would say yes. In a small black drawstring bag laid a friendship bracelet of three colors, dark green (jade), light orange (citrine), and a blue (water) that was reminiscent of water that could be found in anime. Which was a really hard decision to come to, but nonetheless it was the shade of water they went with.

As soon as Elsi walked it they grabbed the boys hand, pulling him to the side to an area as quiet as it could possibly get in the Great Hall during lunchtime. "Hey! Sorry, I know we usually eat separately this lunch, but I had something for you." They handed them the little bag and before he could say anything, was gone. "Have a good lunch!" They went to the normal spot they usually sat, their friends giggling and jostling them as they had known at least a little bit about the plan. Dori was bright red, covering their face with their hands before pretending to busy themselves with eating, though they couldn't seem to take their eyes off of Elsi.

Whenever he opened it, the generous Gryffindor would find a bracelet and a small handwritten note which read:

'On the first day of Christmas, my best friend gave to me: A friendship bracelet woven with jade, citrine, and the color of water. Just like the first spell we ever did together in first year.

Meet me tomorrow after dinner with Kitty in tow in the library.
'

Elsi would find later that while Dori had shed wearing their multitude of friendship bracelets a couple years ago, a matching one to Elsi's could be found tied firmly to their left hand.

On The First Day Of Christmas PV Elsian Finished

It was cold, and his fingers were numb from practice and classes. Cramped and creaky like old noisy hinges on a door and he was oh so sure they would ache if he dared to finish working on gifts tonight. So he wouldn’t, he’d decided, no tonight he would relax and nap and lay about on his bed aimlessly with Kitty on his bed while listening to his dormmates chat and the crackle of the fire. Maybe tease the boy about certain crushes, and watch the snowfall from a window as he drifted and wondered about the exact shade of blue that was Dorions eyes-

He startled and hissed, swatting at one of his friends as they ran into him. People chittered and laughed but it was distant to his ears, like water, as if dunked underneath the great lake's waters. Tired. Sore. The boy was perhaps a bit slower on his feet than usual but that wasn’t anything special, he was always slow. Today was no exception as he fell behind from his group, pausing by the doors to let some younger, not yet burnt out 3rd years pass by first before dragging himself inside.

Elsian yawned, tears at the corners of his eyes as his eyes scrunched closed. One hand up to his mouth as if to cover the boy's constant state of sleepiness, as was only polite to do. Walking forward mindlessly, brain stuck on the normal path towards his small corner of the Gryffindor table-

Or he would have if his hand hadn’t been grabbed. Forcing the boy to stumble to a stop as green eyes blinked through tired tears to meet Dorions; a blue that reminded him of ice, dangerous but stunning, and the same clear blue of a winter morning. “Dori-?” He trailed off, squeezing the others hand before letting go; bleary-eyed but as attentive as he could be as he fought down a yawn. Because he’d try for Dori. Always for Dori. “Wha-” He blinked down at the little black bag pressed to his palm, fingers curling, warm where his met theirs and he paused, staring down at it, surprised but curious but when he looked up to voice the jumbled thoughts Dorion had already pulled away, flying away to their own table.

Confused and perhaps a little dazed, he wandered to his own seat, all but collapsing into it as he dumped his bag onto the ground and stared down at the little drawstring bag sitting innocently in his palm.

It was light, and soft, and scratched at a memory from a long long time ago. Soft grass, a tree, and a simple spell. Jade green still tucked away, hidden in a similar pouch under his pillow.

Looking up, the lazy boy tried to catch Dorions eyes, but couldn’t. Too busy with their friends; they looked excited, happy, energetic…he looked back down at the bag. A tug at the opening, 2 fingers gently pulling it open. “What?

There was a bracelet. Made in a pretty green and orange and blue.

He looked up, brief, quick before looking back down. A bracelet?

Huh..it kinda reminds me of…

The day that, might’ve, set into motion all these years of friendship.

Long fingers held the bracelet up to the light, eyeing the colors and feeling a twinge of nostalgia, warm and bittersweet. Green that reminded him of a worry stone and naps, orange, sweet and warm like a campfire against the cold, blue that was like the sea. Pretty and calm and something that felt like home. Pretty blue eyes…

The next breath felt stuttered and odd. Something warm and fond filling his chest, like pride but soft and light.

Without realizing it a smile began to pull at his lips. Soft and small and so very simple. But real and with a fondness that was rarely seen. Maybe something like love.

It was enough to catch the attention of certain nosy friends and housemates. Whether curious or jeering or playful, it hardly mattered. Elsian scowled good naturedly, shoving at one of his classmates with a scowl as he held the bag and bracelet away until they gave up. He pulled out the note, hunching over it protectively, hair casting a shadow as he read it. It was…such a simple message really. And the end left him curious, itching to ask Dorion what they had planned.

It was a little confusing. A little random. But nice.

Very nice…

Somehow, it made him a little embarrassed. A soft blush painted the tips of his ears as his friend teased him, but despite it and the rough shove he gave the other, when he briefly caught Dorions eye, he couldn’t help but smile.

Looking down, a soft blush there and gone with the loud chatter of the great hall, he slipped on the bracelet.
