Potions Lesson
Joseph, bleary-eyed, took a glance at the board. Dried Nettles... yes, he had added that already... horned slugs... yes, he had added that too... advil... hmm... his attention drifted from his cure for boils potion as restlessness began to stir within him.
Unknowingly, he found himself peering curiously at his classmates, whom he admitted he had hardly paid any attention to. Sitting only a few paces away, sat a boy with a long freckled face, frowning at his potion that was now reeking a stench of rotten eggs. Pinching her nose, the girl next to him seemed to be amused, evidently making a poor attempt to stifle her laughter.
With a sigh, Joseph returned to his potion, adding some advil to the swirling mixture which hit the surface with a satisfying 'pop'. Just as he was about to drop in the porcupine quills, it suddenly occurred to him that there was someone sitting next to him.
You should introduce yourself. These are the people you'll be with for the next seven years anyway, an inner voice urged him. Joseph bit his lip stubbornly, refusing to move. He had always been a shy person and hardly made friends. Shaking his head as he tried to get back to work, he realised he had accidentally added an extra five porcupine quills.
Joseph hissed in frustration. Nothing could ruin his day more than messing up his first ever potion at Hogwarts.

Quinn excitedly glanced at the board that had potions making steps on it. I can't belive I finnaly get to make a potion! Quinn thought. Quinn grabbed her first ingriedient: Dried nettels. Her potions class was a mix of Ravenclaws and Huffelpuffs, she really hoped she would learn some of there names and be freinds with them. They were a different house after all. Quinn popped in some horned slug just as a frightful smell hit her nose.
"Eww" She shrieked as her partners potion melted with the smell of rotten fruit.
"Uug I'm moving seats!" Quinn packed up her stuff and grabbed her cauldron, moving it to a seat with no one in it. He seemed a little annoyed and added way to many porcupine quills. Maybe potions isn't his thing.
Quinn thought then decided that this is a person she'll know for the next seven years. I'll introduce myself. Quinn thought. Quinn added a porcupine quill and started chopping up beetles. sliding them into her cauldron, Qunn turned to the boy and tapped his shoulder.
"Um, hello. Which way is clockwise again?" Quinn knew the answer but she wanted to engage in conversation. Also the boy looked very down so she wanted to cheer him up.
"You know I never can get them straight."

Joseph spun around as he felt a light tap on his shoulder. "Um, hello. Which way is clockwise again? You know I can never get them straight." A voice called awkwardly from beside Joseph as he stared down at his ruined potion grouchily. Momentarily startled, Joseph did a double take, turning to find himself face to face with a ravenclaw girl, her sleek auburn hair pulled into a tight braid and eyes shining with what appeared to look like curiosity.
Joseph blinked. It had been the first time a Ravenclaw had spoken directly to him. Why had this piece of information surprised him? He had had to have anticipated this would happen eventually. "You can't trust Ravenclaws," Joseph's father's low, sneering voice reverberated through his ears, "They're a witty, scheming lot. Think they know best. Arrogant blokes." Joseph shuddered. He had never really taken a liking to his father, and half the things he had ever said had turned out to be untrue. Furthermore, this girl couldn't be very perceptive if she couldn't tell which way was clockwise. Or was there a hidden agenda in her question?
"It's this way," Joseph replied patiently, flashing the girl a forced grin as he rotated his potion stirrer in the clockwise direction, causing his potion's contents to swirl and become a nasty shade of purple. Completing the potion didn't mean much to him now, since he had already messed it up anyway. Joseph glanced over curiously at the girl's cauldron, his eyes widening at its soft blue, bubbling contents, only a hue paler than the sample on the professor's desk, that could be easily fixed with a couple of stirs and a nice swish of the wand.
Perhaps this girl could help him in potions. But would she?

The boy stared at her, almost as if he had never seen a ravenclaw before. He looked at her for a few seconds before deminstrating how to do it. Quinn smiled at him and then noticed that he had sacrificed his potion for telling her how. Feeling kind of bad Quinn looked at him then decided to test her nerve.
"Um... thanks, I just wanted you to know that I do know which way clockwise is, I didn't mean for you to ruin your potion though..." Quinn trailed off for a few minutes. I hope he doesn't hate me now, that would be bad. Quinn waved her wand of her cauldron turning it a softer blue and matching the sample on the proffesers deck. Alright maybe now that i've finished I can help the boy.
"Would you like some help with that... If you want it that is." Quinn grabbed a flask from the table and dipped it in her potion. Fillling it to the brim Quinn thought back to when her mother had been talking to her about hogwarts.
"I met people who changed my life, and I met people from all different houses." She had paused.
"Huffelpuffs were by far the most idiotic of the group. Sure they were loyal but they were a little dafty in my opion." Quinn knew that her mother had predijuce against huffelpuffs as a few of them messed her up when she was older. Quinn smiled at the boy.
"I just finished and it looks like you need some help, no offence."

The girl casted a furtive glance at Joseph, lips twitching slightly as though experiencing an inner turmoil. Puzzled, Joseph lowered his gaze to his cauldron, from which red angry sparks were now shooting out of, leaving scattered holes burned off his robes. Was Joseph that hard to understand? Did Ravenclaws only learn through words but not actions? Why was she looking at Joseph in such a weird way?
Or perhaps, Joseph had been right after all. Perhaps there was a hidden agenda behind her question, and now the girl's mind might be twirling in a realm of endless possibilities, calculating her next move they were playing wizard chess...
"Um... thanks, I just wanted you to know that I do know which way clockwise is, I didn't mean for you to ruin your potion though..." the Ravenclaw girl trailed off, leaving Joseph more confused than ever. What had that meant? Why had she asked then, if she had already known the answer? Millions of doubts clouded Joseph's mind almost instantaneously, fogging and wrapping up his brain so tightly he could hardly think straight.
Relax... A voice, crisp and clear, demanded from the back of his head, making any trace of doubt dissipate immediately. Joseph slowly let out a gentle gust of air, forcing a smile. He didn't know anything yet. There was no point in jumping to conclusions before understanding the situation.
"Would you like some help with that... If you want it that is." the girl offered, pouring a sample of her completed potion into a crystal vial, ready to be presented. For the first time that minute Joseph's grin didn't look forced.
"Sure," he replied, raising both hands in a gesture of surrender. Anyone could have told his potion had turned out abyssmal just by looking at the condition of his robes alone.
Joseph'd be more than happy to accept help from a better potioneer. Even one he hardly knew.

Potions Lesson
Sitting a couple empty seats on the other side of a Hufflepuff boy was a nervous looking Ravenclaw boy by the name of Roman, who was obviously enjoying himself very much, but was definitely super nervous. He noticed the terrible smell from across the room and watched as another Ravenclaw walked over to sit next to the nearby Hufflepuff.
He tried not to pay attention but the smell was absolutely terrible... he continued stirring his potion, trying to be just right and finally pulled his wand out and finished his potion.
"Phew... that was terrifying... I'm glad nothing bad happened." Roman then looks over to the Ravenclaw girl sitting next to the Hufflepuff nearby. He was hopefully done, as he had followed the instructions pretty closely. Maybe he could make some friends if he at least talked...
Roman moved a seat closer to the Hufflepuff.
"Hey, um, what are you two up to? I think I just finished my potion, do either of you need any help with anything? You looked like you might have made a couple of mistakes... I mean... not to be rude. I just was... you know what never mind, you two look like you could handle this yourselves." Roman moved back to his seat and checked his potion just to make sure it was still good. He didn't know what it was supposed to be like and was worried that even with all his hard work he might have messed everything up. Who knows, maybe what Roman failed here was interacting with someone...

Quinn laughed as the boy put his hands up in surrender.
"Alright well first thing to do is-" Quinn suddenly stopped. The reason being that another boy, ravencalw, had interupted her. To ask if they needed help, as if she did! Rude. Quinn thought as the boy continued talking akwardly, probobly aware that they didn't need help. He trailed off and Quinn wondered what had made him interupt Quinn. It's certainly strange, at least he relized that we were fine. Quinn shook herself and turned back to the boy.
"Er anyway, what was I saying." Quinn racked her brains for a second. Oh yeah, I was helping him fix his potion! Quinn continued.
"Well anyway, this might be wrong but first lets try and get it back to what you had before you sacrificed your potion to help me." Quinn made it sound like a joke but she also wanted the boy to know she was sorry his potion got ruined. Quinn took her wand and stirred the boys cauldron. It turned a nasty pink.
"Ok, so that was a no." Quinn said giggling a little. Quinn grabbed a knife and started chopping up ingredients. Quinn scraped them into the cauldron and stired again. It turned a weird cross between blue and pink. Quinn took this as good.
"Erm, it's almost blue now. Why don't you try again, I'll supervise." She added jokingly.
Quinn saw the interupting boy again out of the courner of her eye. He looks so lonely. She thought. Quinn edged over to the boy.
"I'm Quinn. Er, do you need any help with your potion-wait you said you finished it so good job." Quinn inwardly kicked herself. She wasn't amazing at conversation starters.

Potions Lesson
Roman looked over to Quinn, still somewhat nervous about what he considered a failed attempt to introduce himself and maybe help someone else since he was already done.
"Eh... yeah um... I didn't really find the potion that hard. I mostly just wanted to see if either of you could maybe use some help. My name is Roman by the way. Um... oh by the way, you aren't supposed to stir the potion with your wand. Just um... thought you'd like to know that." Roman nervously shrugged before looking back at his potions textbook and sliding it over.
"See, you need your wand to combine the ingredients and if it's covered in the potion already it'll be much harder to cast the spell to do that. It's a bit of a minor thing, but if you do it like that it'll make finishing the potion much easier." Roman shows this in the textbook, as it is very finite and easy to miss.
"There's a lot of stuff in these potions that you can't just glance over, sometimes the potions have really important parts you need to do that you can easily miss due to misunderstanding the recipe. It really helps if you try to read it over multiple times just in case you miss something that could ruin your potion or at best make it harder to finish. I mean, I don't mean to sound rude or anything, I just felt that it would be good to know. There are also other minor details, like taking the cauldron off of the fire before you add the quills and adding the fangs in with four specific measures instead of all at once. I know reading the really tiny parts of the recipe can be... annoying. But it's better than having your potion smell like... well... you know." Roman motions in the direction of the student who had really messed up with his potion. He's obviously less nervous now that he started explaining said minor bits of the potion that could be easily missed. Though he was still worried he'd come off as someone who was trying to tell someone what to do rather than just trying to help.
"So uh, yeah. One other thing I'd recommend is trying to stir the potion more slowly to let the ingredients dissolve better. It really does help."

Shadow Mist, was focusing very hard on her first potion, when she noticed the boy next to her struggling with his. So, she offered him her potion ingredients. “ Here.” she said, offering him her spare potion ingredients. “You can have this. No need for you to get in trouble on your first day of class.” She said, While pushing her spare ingredients over to him. The boy glanced at the ingredients & then back at her in confusion. Before speaking up. “ Thank you for the offer ma’am, but I can’t take your potion ingredients.” “Nonsense, I insist.” “ Well, if you say so.” The boy said; while reaching over the table to grab the ingredients he needed. “Thank you.” Don’t mention it.” She said; while returning to her potion. After, that, class went on without a hitch. & the boy next to her managed to get a good grade on his potion thanks to the help of the girl sitting next to him. & the girl had no regrets helping the boy next to her. She was just happy to help out wherever she could, & took pride in what she did, because she liked seeing others happy.

Don't get distracted, don't get distracted. Elizabeth told herself but that was to no avail. She was about to mix up a step when she saw someone else (it looked like they were on the same step) do something different so she copied the step done. Why am I so horrible with Potions? Ugh! She thought and continued on, occasionally peeking at someone else to make sure she knew what she was doing.
When she was almost done, she peeked to the other side of her and saw that her partner was only halfway done. "Um...Hey, want any help? I can...try and help." She asked but then thought How stupid I am! I shouldn't be doing that. I technically cheated to do mine. Ugh! But it was too late. Either the girl would have to nod, shake her head, or not do anything at all. Why did she have to be so stupid sometimes? Well, nobody was perfect perfect.
Glancing up, she saw that a kid ahead of her was looking around at everyone else's potions. That's odd, is he done already? How long has he been done for? Elizabeth wondered but shrugged the thought away before continuing to finish hers. There wasn't a moment to lose unless...she could get it done while helping others who needed it. Like the girl she had asked.
