It was Monday, September 4th, 2023.

The start of a new year when things should have begun anew for all the students who attended Hogwarts.

But Kim was not feeling in the spirit of such things. He didn't want to have a fresh start at the beginning of the school year and had no desire to do much of anything at the moment. All he wanted to do was lament about the past and the things and people he'd lost back then. 2022 had been hard for him, maybe too hard for him to handle. Kim wanted to forget the year even existed... If he could turn back time, he would have done so, just to see everyone again. Happy, alive, present with him... The teen couldn't help but recall it all....

How his first year had started back in 2021. When he hadn't known anyone and was just starting out his journey with a fresh slate. Kim remembered how his parents had told him to make lots of connections and use people to help him achieve his own ends. As the professor for History of Magic continued her lecture, Kim's blue eyes drifted away from her and onto a certain section. He could still remember Juniper leaning in to peer at his notebook during class that one time. He'd been sketching someone he'd met on the train then.

She'd been flinging rubber bands at others.

Which in turn had led her to encourage him, and the boy by her side, to play the rubber band game with her.

It had been the first time he'd met Juniper Kelly and Draven Mirador. That meeting had been the start of their friendship together and he'd thought it would have lasted for a long time back then. Little did he know that both of them would leave him later on. Kim let his eyes linger on the section where Juniper and Draven used to sit near him and let out a little sigh, which could barely be heard. So much had changed since the two had left him. Even the professor. Back then it had been Zahid al-Benghazi ibn Masoud. He'd liked him a lot.

Even though his lectures could be boring sometimes. The new professor for History of Magic was a witch called Melisande Lennox. Kim idly wondered what Draven and Juniper would have thought of the newest addition to the staff of Hogwarts. The teen's thoughts drifted to Sophia and the ghost of a smile came to his lips. She probably would have loved her, the girl had always been so into all things magical, since she came from a muggle family. If June, Draven and Sophia had been there, would they have played the game again?

Well, Sophia hadn't been there at the time.

It had only been him, June, Draven and Micheal back then. After awhile, Micheal had drifted away.

Which in turn ended up with it becoming a trio instead, composed of just him, June and Draven. The three had gotten really close as a result of this and ended up spending a lot of time together. Until the day had come when June had left them. And then soon after Draven had disappeared too. Kim assumed he'd gotten transferred as he hadn't been able to find him after that point in time. Professor Lennox concluded her lecture and Kim blinked upon realizing that time had passed by without him realizing it. How quick it was....

It was already the end of class. He waited as the students all got up, gathered their belongings and made their way over to the classroom's door. Kim remained seated, not wanting to interact in the crowds of people there. He always was like this. Once the majority of students had dispersed, Kim got to his feet and slung his satchel over his shoulder, making his way down to the main floor. He silently walked towards the door, only to reach his destination at the same time as someone else. As a result, the two ended up colliding together....

Or rather their shoulders did.

Kim hadn't really been paying much attention to his surroundings, after waiting for the others to leave.

Shared Memories PV Draven Mirador
Draven let out a jaw-wrenching yawn, his fingers playing with the straps of his bag underneath the table. He threaded them through the strips of leather and out, feeling at the buckles absentmindedly. His forehead was pressed against the desk, the wood leaving an indent into his skin. He was sure that when he got up, there would be a red line streaking across his face. As if it wasn't messed up enough as it was.

Draven teetered to himself, watching as Deimos crawled across his knee. The spider was entering puberty at the same time as Draven was, apparently. There was no other explanation for the obscene hand gesture Deimos had decided to work on that day, painstakingly sketching out the rude sign with webs.

'You're immature', he whispered to the spider, trying to stay still. There was an uncomfortable feeling gathering in the center of his shoulder blades, like a hand pressing down against him, putting pressure on his skin. He knew the touch wasn't there, but it weighed heavily on him, making him twitch and shiver in his seat. He gagged underneath his mask, squeezing his eyes shut. His nails- long and dirty, tapped out a discordant rhythm on the desk surface.

In Hogwarts, there was no bell like he'd heard in muggle schools. The teacher dismissed them. And the teacher was taking her sweet time now. Draven bristled, giving her a look from behind his arm. Judging from the impatient looks the other students gave their bags, he wasn't the only one displeased.

Exhaustion tugged down on his eyelids, though they refused to close. He couldn't close them. Couldn't do anything but keep a weary eye on the other students and do his best to sit still. If he tapped his fingers, chewed on his cheek, bit down on his tongue, and tensed each joint one by one, time passed faster. The clock above the door moved with the swiftness of a man carrying his own cross.

And then it was over. As quickly as it had begun, the class ended. Funny. Draven couldn't recall a single thing from the past hour and a half.

Pulling his bag up, the boy fought a wave of nausea that threatened to overwhelm him as soon as he sat up, the world going black for a second.

He should have known better than to try walking after that. It wasn't even ten minutes later, walking into his next class, that Draven's shoulder collided with another student's. He jerked back as if he'd been burned, a slurred apology falling from his lips a moment later. He was on the ground-...how- how was he on the ground.

Blood. It was coming from his palms, red staining his hoodie. Damn Hogwarts floors.

"I'm sorry-" he mumbled. "I'm sorry."

If it had been before the Fall Ball 2022...

Kim would have been looking around the room and taking in the sight of all the new students inside.

It was something he'd always done, as he was the type of person to be rather observant of others. But as it was, Kim was not in the mood to do much of anything these days. As he tried to leave the room, his shoulder bumped into someone else's, (@Draven Mirador) someone coming into the room at the same time he was trying to leave it. The strap of his satchel that he'd slung haphazardly over one shoulder fell off and hit the floor, along with the body of the student who had collided with him. A small intake of air could be heard too.

He looked down to see the prone body of another student, male, who was now on the floor at his feet. As he stared up at him, his mask slipping a little, Kim blinked upon seeing the boy's face. He looked familiar... but why was that? The dark haired teen continued to stare at him until suddenly it clicked. Kim had a 90% photographic memory and was able to recall certain things many would have forgotten or found it hard to remember. Especially if their appearance had changed drastically in the process. Like this particular wizard.

It was Draven.

Draven had returned to him. Kim's brain finally caught up to what he'd been seeing before his very eyes.

A little spark of hope could be seen deep within the depths of his now dark blue eyes. As Draven hurriedly apologized to him twice, Kim stared down at him for a few seconds more. "...Raven?" He found himself saying, using the nickname he'd always called Draven back in the past. A nickname only he'd been able to call him and was uniquely his own. No other words were spoken. Kim's eyes alighted on Draven's bloody palms and he leaned down to grasp his arm. Pulling him upward, the teen embraced the other for a second.

Before releasing him. Deep within his muddled mind, Kim knew the spell to heal minor injuries. But he couldn't focus enough to find that knowledge within him at the moment. Therefore, he'd need to do this the physical way instead for now. He carefully held onto Draven's arm, taking care not to hurt his hands, and pulled him off to the side of the room. The area Kim had chosen was away from the main door, so if anyone were to go past they wouldn't see anyone was inside. He pulled a few items from his satchel to care for him.

Kim worked slowly but efficiently on Draven's bloodied hands.

No words were spoken, other than his initial one, where he'd spoken Draven's nickname from before.

Draven stared back blearily at the student he'd rammed into. He'd frozen in his spot, hoping the other boy would go on without casting him a second glance if he didn't move. But his latest mistake stood rooted in place, a strange expression on his face. Draven blanched, pulling the bandana back up across his nose. His lip was bloodied from tearing at it all night. He had several places on his face where cuts from unsuccessful shaving attempts stuck out like sore thumbs. His shitty teenage boy mustache was very, very much still visible. He looked and felt disgusting. Nothing was quite as humbling as kneeling by someone else's feet, unwashed and after four nights without sleep. He was fairly certain that if the boy wanted to send a kick between his ribs, he'd just sit there and take it. Pray he wouldn't be sick over his shoes. Give him a reason to kick him again.

The boy moved, and Draven couldn't help it. He flinched, trying to pull away despite knowing it would end up worse for him if he did. "Raven?" the boy said oddly, bending down and wrapping his fingers around Draven's arm.

He didn't have time to protest. Didn't have time to move away because the next second, he was being embraced, the other boy's strong arms wrapping overtop his and going to clasp behind his back. Draven's whole body went stiff, a small, panicked whimper coming from the boy. Please, he begged, not knowing whom he was begging and for what. Please, please, please, please. He could feel his body recoil, shivers going down his arms and back, cold and unpleasant against Draven's bare skin.

The room hazed around the edges as Kim pulled away, and in a very confusing second, the other boy's face clicked in the hole carved in Draven's brain. Kim. Kim, that was his name. Kim, Kim, Kim. Kim Sato.

"Hey," Draven croaked pathetically, allowing himself to be pulled to the side of the classroom, where Kim managed to pull out some antiseptic and gauze from Merlin knew where. Who just...had a bottle of antiseptic with him? Kim. Kim did.

The other boy worked slowly, not meeting Draven's eyes. Kim's usually bright-colored hair had faded to a dull black, and he'd aged well. His face had changed, losing some of the babyish roundness that all kids had. The clear blue of his eyes had darkened, and he'd shot up like a weed. He was a stunning boy, Draven thought absentmindedly as Kim poured the stinging liquid on his palms. Had always been.

But there were shadows under his eyes that hadn't been there when Draven had left. A tightness to his jaw, a tension to his shoulders.

"It's been a while," Draven croaked, unable to meet the other boy's eyes.

It was understandable.

The way Draven had reacted to his initial touch. Kim himself wasn't a touchy-feely type of guy either.

But this was an event worthy of doing so. It wasn't every day that a familiar face he'd never thought to see again reappeared in his life. Still, despite this, Kim's hug had been relatively short for a hug. If he'd been anyone else, it might have lasted too long for Draven's sanity, but fortunately for the latter, Kim was more like him than other people. As he worked on cleaning and caring for Draven's hands, he simply nodded at the boy's greeting, not deeming it necessary to respond. It didn't really require a reply, as it was a greeting.

...and Kim was already busy doing something, which was taking care of Draven's bloody palms. As Draven spoke again, echoing his own unspoken thoughts, Kim looked up at him for the first time. "It has. Since June left, both of us kind of fell off the grid... and then you disappeared on me too." The dark haired thirteen year old told him. He let his blue eyes flicker over his old friend, who was now only one inch taller than him, instead of a couple like he'd been before. Kim had almost caught up to Draven's height now.

A sigh escaped his lips.

Most people would have simply cleaned the blood off, put antiseptic on and covered it with a bandage.

They wouldn't have taken the time to check and make sure nothing else was wrong now. However, lately a little of @Eun-ji Lee Hunt had rubbed off on him. He couldn't help but want to fully heal any injury he saw on people he cared about. It had never been that way for him before but after everything he'd suffered through this past year... Kim stopped those painful thoughts from coming to the surface of his mind. He focused his attention on Draven's injuries, grateful for being able to find something to focus on right now.

He instinctively checked every area on Draven's hands to make sure he hadn't missed anything and that the minor injuries would heal correctly with time. Or until someone used a healing spell on him. If someone hadn't seen a friend in quite a long time and was finally reunited with them again, they probably would have asked them 'how have you been', 'you been well', or 'what have you been doing'. But Kim asked none of those questions. He could easily see that Draven wasn't in the best state right now and asking the first two questions would be pointless. And he didn't like to ask pointless questions, it was too much like idle chatter.

He'd never liked idle chatter.

It was one of the things he hated because it was something people did when they weren't interested in you.

As for the last one, even though it might sound good, he was afraid Draven would ask the same question back at him. And Kim didn't really want to answer it. Instead, he opted for a question he actually wanted to know the answer to. One that Draven could answer without much trouble. "When did you get back?" He asked, finishing up with Draven's hands. Kim put the antiseptic and bandages back into his satchel and hopped up onto one of the desks, his long legs dangling off the edge as he waited for Draven's reply to come.

"September," Draven swallowed, though that was a stupid answer. "First. September first." He looked up, blinking away the stupid tears of exhaustion and pain. It hurt what Kim was doing. He was wrapping the bandages around his palms, the liquid stinging against his skin. Merlin, if he kept standing he'd black out-

Before the floor could rush to meet his face, Draven slid down against the wall behind him. He ached to put his head between his knees and stall the wave of nausea that he could feel rising in his stomach. But he'd already made a fool of himself in front of too many students, both old and new.

"I'm sorry," he mumbled, as the room spun. Though 'I'm sorry' didn't even begin to cover it, did it? It didn't cover the way he'd disappeared off the face of the planet, and it didn't cover how he was acting right now. He wished Kim would sit beside him, though he couldn't ask the other boy to get his clothes dirty.

Draven's eyes followed the line of stitching on Kim's boots, the cuff of his jeans, and the way cloth rippled up his legs. He wore nice clothes. Easy on the eyes. Well made. "Everyone is gone," Draven said hollowly. Transferred or simply missing in action, it seemed like their entire year had slowly disappeared. And they'd been left, Draven sitting on a dusty HoM classroom floor, shaking from every available joint. Kim with shadows in the hallows of his cheeks and underneath his eyes. There was a tightness to his lips, too. They no longer curled up instinctively in the other's boyish grin.

He didn't know what to tell Kim. Didn't know where they stood after so much time. So he kept his mouth shut, looking through the boy's body, almost. Words stuck in his throat, refusing to pass his lips and tongue.

He wouldn't be able to make it through the lesson. Pushing himself up, Draven slung his bag over one shoulder unsteadily, his eyes flickering to the door. "I need food. Come with?"

So it had been the start of the year.

Kim nodded. He hadn't known Draven had returned because they didn't share any of the same classes.

Since Draven wasn't in the same year as him, despite the fact that they had been back in the past, it was strange to consider them as non-classmates. After all, classes were broken up into same years for the most part, unless there was a special exception that is. As it was, Kim was now one year ahead of him. As Draven slid down the wall behind his back, Kim's eyes tracked his progress. A million things crossed his mind but vocally he didn't say a single word to him. The boy mumbled an apology to him, which was rather strange.

Not that he'd apologize but that it was Draven it was coming from. Kim couldn't remember if he'd ever seen or heard Draven apologize in the past. A sigh escaped his lips as Kim pushed himself off the desk to join Draven on the floor. Sliding down the wall to rest directly next to him, the nearly fourteen year old's left shoulder touched Draven's right shoulder. It was a comfortable distance but also intimate. Not enough to be uncomfortable but enough to provide a sense of warmth to him. Draven's next words made his eyes darken.

"...everyone's left us." Kim agreed.

"Ever since June... things have steadily been going downhill." It had culminated at the Fall Ball.

Back in 2022. 2022 really had been a shitty year and Kim wished he could have skipped it entirely and not remembered anything that went on during that particular year. There was a memory potion. But at the same time it was kind of risky because if something went wrong... well, the side effects or consequences could be really bad for him. He couldn't forget things he needed to remember. But there was no guarantee with potions. It was the only reason why he hadn't taken one yet. Kim's thoughts drifted off as he sat with Draven.

The class would start within 15 minutes. But thankfully, no one had started to enter the room yet, so they remained alone for now. Kim knew he'd need to leave but he'd wait a bit longer with Draven. That is, until the one in question got to his feet and slung his bag over his shoulder. The boy spoke a few seconds later, asking him to go with him to get some food and Kim nodded. Getting to his own feet, he grabbed his satchel, slinging the strap over his own shoulder. "Lead the way." He told Draven, not intending on getting food....

Not for himself at least.

But there was no reason why he couldn't go along with Draven and keep him company in the meantime.
