The sun is shining through fading grey clouds and the air is humid, which makes it the perfect day for Lucie to go to the Great Lake.
The long-haired Slytherin is too lazy to put their wavy hair in any type of style so they let it be, luckily there’s no class so they can wear their regular clothes. They dodge students left and right before finding themself at the Great Lake, Lucie is uneasy about the giant squid but isn't dumb enough to be less than 8 feet from the lake.
They put down their picnic blank and sit on it, they take out one of the many sweets in their bag and stare at the lake. They feel a presence behind them but put it off as a plant or something but when it stays in that same place they deduce that it is a person, ”Would you like to join me, mystery person? I have enough sweets to feed a whole family. I'm Lucie by the way.” Lucie says without turning around.
They take out a chocolate frog and sit it on the blanket next to them, as a peace offering if the person decides to join the odd person with dyed half-black/half-white hair. Their different-colored eyes shine with the sun’s reflection momentarily on them.
Who am I kidding? I have enough sweets to feed a whole village but the mystery person doesn't need to know that. A faint smile appears on Lucie’s face as they think that.
Lucie continues to stare out at the lake but looks away momentarily to fix their glasses, I really should've chosen to fix my eyes but I thought glasses would make me look cool, lucky me.

Esme wondered how Lucie’s senses we so good. It amazes her that someone could notice her when she thought she was pretty unassuming. Then again she figured you could usually recognize when people were in your peripheral.
“You’re serious, you’re willing to share?” She looked at them with a look of hopeful curiosity, but assuming they weren’t looking at her, she eventually made her way to the chocolate frog. Munching on the frog, she turns to look at Lucie. “Thank you, I’m Esme.” She eventually finishes off the chocolate frog and gets comfortable right next to Lucie. She decided to look at Lucie they had a very specific look, couldn’t be mistaken for anyone else…and yet Esme was unsure she’d ever seen them. But now that she had, she would not forget them, at least not easily.
“I really like your hair, it’s super pretty.” She decided she should lead on with a compliment, she didn’t want to make small talk. Small talk was dumb and made people less likely to talk, at least in her experience… “How do you get enough sweets to feed an entire family?” It reminded her of Kristin, she gave a subtle sigh, shaking her head.

Esme has proven to be a true Hufflepuff. Lucie was a bit on the fence about her at first but they have become quite fond of her very fast. ”Thank you, I might let my blonde hair come back or I might dye it again. Who knows?” Lucie has heard a bunch of things about their hair but mostly that their hair is unusual.
Then Esme asks why they have ‘’enough candy to feed a family’’, which is the million-dollar question. “The answer to that question, Esme, is simple. I'm just obsessed with sweets, simple as that. You know, you're quite short. But of course, I’m 5’0.” Lucie gives the girl a wide dimple-revealing smile, She’ll be a great friend.
”Now it’s my turn to ask a question. Why were you lurking around the Great Lake? Not necessarily as if you were following me but you stood there for a few minutes, so why?” Lucie asks with a blond eyebrow raised, it would make them look condescending if they weren't such a bubbly individual.
They use the term Lurking loosely because Esme doesn't seem like the type of person to lurk, maybe linger but not lurk.
The breeze blows their hair into their face making it go from wavy but frizzy to a wild mess. They grab their hairbrush from their bag and attempt to brush it into submission but give up when the brush gets stuck in their hair, their brush, unfortunately, has a new home now.

Esme looks at Lucie, and then thinks about it. “I guess I am a bit short for my age, but I think you might be pretty tall for your age as well. You might even be 6 feet tall when you’re an adult. Could you perhaps have giant blood?” She thinks about it, that may explain why they are so tall, but maybe not at the same time…she was hoping that didn’t seem rude. She smiles back, hoping she didn’t look awkward as she half listened and half tasted her responses.
“We’ll…I do come here often, however I was also contemplating whether or not to start a new conversation. You beat me to it though.” She watches as Lucie brushed their hair. The frizzy hair made Esme chuckle a bit, wind was part of why she liked to keep her hair shoulder length. But she secretly laughs harder the moment Lucie’s brush got stuck in their hair.
“Do you come to the lake often? You know…to eat sweets and relax.” It sounded like a good way to de-stress from studies. That was until Esme remembered that she had to watch her weight, her mom points out even the slightest bit of flab, but then also points out when she looks like a skeleton with skin attached… Esme wondered if Lucie had a similar experience.

Lucie laughs out loud as Esme asks about the possibility of them having giant blood, ”If only my life was that cool, my dad’s 6’1. I’m hoping to at least be 5’8, being excessively tall runs in my family. My aunt is actually married to a half giant though, he towers over everyone at family events.” They say this earnestly with a half smile on their face.
Lucie listens to Esme’s words very carefully and deduce that she has an overbearing family member, and Lucie being Lucie decides to point it out and share their overbearing family member story in hopes of making Esme more comfortable, ”So, you have an overbearing family member? My mother was mine, until she was killed. I was even a debutant girl, those days were brutal. It was basically win or die trying, but seeing as I’m still here, I’d say I didn’t die trying.” The last part was an attempt to lighten the mood a little.
”My advice to you is to not let the comments and opinions of others take the pep out of your step, it won’t be easy but then again you don’t think that I stopped letting negative comments get to me in two days, do you? You’re a brave person, you’ll get there but don’t forget baby steps.” The atmosphere’s become a little sad so how about I lighten the mood again.
Lucie digs in their bag and clasps a silver ring in their hands and gives it to Esme, silently telling her to keep it. ”I have enough of them as is, giving a few away won’t cause much of a lump in my collection. When I wear my rings, I feel brave and I’m giving that one to you so you can feel brave in the face of negativity. I sound like a hippie but that’s the truth.” Lucie says in a matter-of-fact voice with a smile.

“I’m sure she means well though, even when it does feel unfortunate, I don’t think I should fret about it.” She decided that she shouldn’t really say anything about the late mother… after all, she hadn’t lost any parents or really any of her immediate family, so she wouldn’t understand. “Well thank goodness for that, otherwise I wouldn’t have the pleasure of meeting you.” She pitches in her own attempt to lighten the mood.
“I’m not brave, presenting my work in class is enough to have me frozen in place like I got a Petrifying Charm cast on me. I’m not brave at all.” She shook her head, denying it wholeheartedly.
Esme knew she should deny the giftat least twice, she was about to once, when Luci insisted she shook her head again, but she took it soon after, a reluctant expression plastered on her face. It just didn’t feel right taking it, but if Luci insisted, it must really be okay. “Well, how do you have so many of everything? You have so much to offer it’s honestly insane.” She slipped the ring on, curious about if it had a magical enchantment or if it helped with confidence in a more natural way. “How does the ring work?”
