Okay, so... Mars is reddish brown because of the oxidizing iron mineral in the dirt... Jupiter color is a mixture of white, orange, brown, and red caused by the combination of hydrogen, helium, ammonia, and ice crystals... Saturn is colored--- Huh? Where is it? Why didn't I note it down?
A girl with white wool cardigan seemed to be burying herself among piles of paper and textbooks. December is here, which means the winter holiday homework is also starting to arrive, and Sere Nade chooses to finish her holiday homework before the holiday itself started. A really strange concept of her, but she just wants to read her books peacefully next to the Christmas tree, instead of struggling with parchment and quills throughout the holidays.

After writing additional notes on her parchment containing a summary of the Astronomy materials, Sere put down her quill and leaned her back against the back of the chair. Is it eleven already? That means I've been here for about three hours.
The girl casted her obsidian eyes around the sitting area where she is now. A quiet library, some faint light conversations, combined with the popped-sound from the fireplace. There are just few students come to the library on Sunday. As for those who come, most are reading book to spend their leisure time. So right now Sere really looks like some kind of freak.
Sere let out a long breath, cracked her neck to the right and left, and then make a round turn. My overall activity at Hogwarts has nearly no difference from what I usually do at home, apparently. Sere massaged her own shoulder and closed her eyes for a refreshment since she has been looking all the words for too long. Ah no, I think the combo of studying and adjusting myself is making it worse. So tiring...

Esme walks into the library quietly, her movement speed changing as she reached the first shelves, as she walked, her arms swaying at her sides, it was clear that not only was she currently care-free but also seemed to be oddly upbeat.
She made her way through the shelves, grabbing books that interested her before that she never grabbed, and a few shorter books for raw entertainment. She looked around to see how many people were here and if she could find a perfect spot to relax and read. After grabbing a certain amount of books, she notices Sere, her friend that she met at breakfast…. She seemed stressed, it wasn’t hard to see why either, she seemed to be drowning in books and paper, Esme quietly laughed, Sere’s expression was pretty funny though unfortunate.
Esme finally came to her, crouched behind her, sticking the tip of her wand between Sere’s shoulder blades. She was hoping Sere didn’t see her because this would make the joke not work. “zhù nǐ hǎo yùn (wishing you good luck)” she said in a menacing tone of voice, as if she was about to ‘Avada Kedavra’ Sere Nade on the spot. To add to the act she chuckled in a raspy and evil voice.
“Did I get you?” She said with a giggle, when Sere would eventually notice her. Her smile was mischievous as she falls over on her back, clutching her abdomen as it tightens from laughing, but it doesn’t stop her from cracking up anyways. “Oh goodness, I’m sorry. Are you alright?”

"OH MY!"
Sere gasped, opening her closed eyes while covering her mouth to hold the shout when she heard a voice behind her, along with a tickle as something touched between her shoulder blade. In just a split second she turned her head and found Esme Xiao behind her. Ah! So the whisper I heard earlier was in Chinese. I should have known that it was her!
Sere sighed in exasperation and folded her arms, "You really got me... Again." She remember so well about how this girl jokingly-mocked her on their first meet.
Sere heard Esme's laughter getting louder and started to panic. She looked around, seeing several students staring at them. She immediately covered Esme's mouth with her left palm, while placing her right index in front of her own lips, "Esme!" She exclaimed in a suppressed whisper. Her eyes are scanning around again, this time to making sure the students who had been staring at them don't report the noise to the librarian.
A minute later she let the curly haired girl go and sat back down in her place. She asked Esme to sit next to her, "Here, please."
Sere, who's ready to scold Esme, folded her arms and opened her mouth, "Don't you ever dare to make that kind of jo--- Hey, I read that book too!" Sere mistakenly focused on one of the books on Esme's hand, the book that she had read. That is one of the history books of the Muggle World, one of the very few history books that Sere read because this girl preferred academic books and anything that emphasized logic. "I think that was one of few history books that wasn't turned me into a pathetic monster. Do you remember that I mentioned about that and you softly mocked me?" Sere's showed a little smile. That was an unexpected fun meeting at breakfast. "Because you chose that book, you're forgiven." Not to mention that the sudden 'surprise' slash Esme's absurd behavior just now makes her feel a little bit better.
Sere supported her chin, looking lazily at the pile of parchment in front of her, "How have you been lately? I just remember now that I should've sent you an owl, inviting you to watch sports competition, but I've been so busy with this things until I forget about that."

Esme was cackling until she had her mouth covered. Suddenly she realized why…. With the people around them staring, Esme was a but more self-conscious. She felt a bit bad, but the feeling was overshadowed by how she still felt that her trick was clever.
She moved to where Sere wanted her to sit, just judging by Sere’s expression she felt Sere’s aura of maturity radiate, sometimes she felt as though she had to be more childish around Sere just in order to balance their dynamic. She was hiding a smug look, but as Sere broke off from her reprimanding Esme went back to smiling, especially when Sere also grinned.
“You can’t lie, that was pretty good, I’m sorry though, I’ll try not to spook you again.” Esme watches Sere calm down, it was infectious and soon Esme felt herself begin to reach a level of relaxation similar to Sere’s. “No worries, none at all, I understand. I’m doing alright, I’ve missed you though, we seem to have a lot of fun while we’re together, I was longing for fun like this.” Esme began to look around at the study supplies and quills and tons of books. “I see you’re pretty busy indeed. Maybe you should ease up a bit?”

Sere closed the astronomy textbook in front of her while chuckling, "I'd say that was pretty good, indeed. Look! I'm saying this now and I'm sure that you'll prank me again, won't you? I see you." Sere looked at the Hufflepuff girl defiantly, "I won't be surprised next time, just try me."
Sere nodded in agreement with Esme's words, "You're right, I really need an ease. The tiredness is keep getting worse. If only doing that thing is easier than saying it..." Sere sighed, "By the way, how about your social life? Meeting new people? Some new friends, maybe? Any interesting things happened?" Sere is sure that Esme's life is more colorful than hers.
Sere leaned her back and folded her arms to hug herself. Winter has come. The temperature dropped quickly and fortunately Sere is the type of person who would rather 'die of cold than die of heat', so this season makes her feel comfortable. She rubbed her arms to warm herself while telling a little story, "I remember that I met a mysterious student in this library about few days ago," Sere recalling her strange encounter with one of the Slytherins at the fantasy shelf, "We only had a short conversation. He told me about a good mystery book and then... Puff..." Sere formed a move like a popping balloon with her right palm, "Dinner time was came... So I left him."
Sere shrugged her shoulders, "I couldn't hold my hunger," Sere is counting with her fingers, "There were also a lot of other probabilities to met him, even though I never see him again until now. Yeah, at least that was my most interesting story," She sighed once again, "Hah, I am indeed as boring as my life."

Esme shook her head with pity, her eyebrows furrowing. “Maybe I can help you out? Lighten the load a little, she began taking some of the papers, already getting ready to shoot out answers like a copy machine. “Let’s see here…” she read it really quickly. Not taking her eyes away from the paper. “Look, you might not like me doing the work for you, but I think you need this.”
“Social life?” She finally looked up from the work, she thought about the period between their first meeting and now. “Well, I made quite a few friends, I mean, only a few but it’s a first for me, you know I’ve been a shut-in for most of my life outside China.” She tried to look back at the paper, but she was distracted with the conversation. “Well I think you’re life isn’t that boring, you surely did something between our meeting and now, right?”
“Maybe he’s a magical creature in disguise!” She exclaimed, though she made sure she was quiet so Sere wouldn’t beat her up. “I mean, you seem like the kind of person to be aware of their surroundings, so like, maybe he knows that trick where you disappear and appear somewhere else…hmm.”
“I think you’ll see him again, and maybe you’ll get close. You’ll have a close friend or maybe more.” She teased Sere, if there was one thing Esme knew, it’s that weird things seemed to happen around significant people. “I’m kidding, maybe a little.”

Sere is actually the type of person who finds it difficult to accept help from other people, not because she doesn't want to, but because Sere almost never gets offers of help in academic matters. This girl was too smart and too 'shunned' for help.
Seeing Esme swiftly take a paper, read it, and help Sere answer several questions made the Gryffindor girl blink, feeling a little bit strange inside. She is... somehow like it. Sere tilted her head to peek at the paper Esme was reading. Her hand grabbed the quill and wrote on the parchment quickly, following the Hufflepuff girl's speaking speed.
"It's a good thing you found some new friends. We'll be here for seven years anyway." Sere also feels that being alone during seven years of boarding school is something that could cut half of her age, slowly but sure. "You should introduce me to your friends someday. I'll do the same... if I have mine." She showed a clear tone of hesitation unintentionally at the end of the sentences.
"For me, let me see..." Sere put down her quill and tapped her chin to think. "I had a conversation with another first year few weeks ago. She's cute and adorable with her curly hair just like you, but in brunette." Not to mention that the one she interacted to was a Dhampir.
Sere realized that her thought was too 'muggle' for the strange case she faced, "You're right! Maybe he's a magical creature or he has the ability to disappear and appear in another place. Umm... apparation and disapparation? I think I've heard that spell from the seniors."
Sere shook her head with an awkward grin at Esme's joke, "I have no plan for my love life, and that's... the only thing I don't plan carefully in my life." The conversation makes Sere think: should I start planning my love life?
A new topic of conversation suddenly appeared in Sere's head, "Winter has come. Do you like winter? Tell me which one is better: winter here in Scotland or in your hometown China?"

Esme smiled, it was a good feeling to help a friend, she just couldn't quite put her finger on why it felt good, but it just made her feel complete to take some of the load off Sere's back, especially since Sere looked a bit like a monster when she was hunched of the the papers, Esme shuddered as if someone threw a sweaty sock at her.
"You're right about that, more connections can also mean more opportunities, but as I've grown I've realized years are surprisingly short, you know?" She always wondered why as a small kid, months seemed like mini years when they actually turned out to only be 4 weeks, how odd. "Will do, I think they'll love you, and I'm sure you'll love them, only the best people can ever truly be a friend right? If you have yours..." She said the last bit quietly, tasting it and trying to dissect meaning out of that, words were a curious thing.
"Oh my! I can't wait to learn that skill...but then again, I heard you can accidently lose pieces of your body...imagine apparating and your dominant hand comes off, scary, right?" She runs her finger around her right hand's wrist, as if it were a puppy getting sent to the kennel. "You're the smarter one, what do you think?"
"Sorry, it's just that, normally... at least in China's case, most women are expected to marry pretty early, like super early, and I'd rather not end up like the shèngnǚ(leftover woman), gotta start early, you get me?" She shakes her head, the thought that she'd be 20 or more without a partner, it would just ruin her quality of life in her eyes. "I'll be a wrinkly, gray pàng xióng (fat bear).
"Well you see, China's winter is much colder, so if you wanna sit inside and look at pretty sights, then I'd recommend it, but I can't lie, it's a bit more fun in Scotland, you can do a lot more outside, it isn't to extreme outside, how about you? What are your thoughts?"

"Do you think so as well?" Sere widened her eyes hearing what she had been thinking about 'how quickly time passed' also became something that Esme was thinking, "I tend to plan everything ahead when I start to realize that time is going by so fast!" Her voice sounded more excited as she found another same thing between Esme and herself.
Sere cleared her throat, "You're right, I guess? I'm sure I'll make some friends here. Lots of nice people welcoming me well, here in Hogwarts. Look! I even have one here, right now." Sere smiled at Esme, hoping that the petite girl beside her understand that she is Sere Nade's first-ever friend.
Sere shuddered and blinked rapidly while whispering, "I didn't know that apparation and disapparation could be that scary." The girl shook her head, "Only medical procedures and mutilation can separate a human body in the muggle world. That's creepy, really really creepy!" She followed Esme's movement: running her finger around her right hand's wrist as she imagined this. "I think you are more experienced in the wizard's scary things. You have to tell me about that... Someday soon." Sere feels that this will be an interesting topic of conversation for them in the future.
Sere couldn't help but laugh when she heard the Chinese terms that Esme used. "I didn't grow up with any particular culture regarding love life. My parents even had me in their forties." The Gryffindor girl felt an interest in discussing this topic, "So... Have you started living your love life now?" Sere folded her arms, "Wanna tell me about that? Or... You can give me a little bit -of what every book lovers called as- spoiler." She played her eyebrows to tease her friend.
Sere seemed to think, "Winter is actually my favorite season. I had lots of extraordinary imaginations as a child when this season is coming," The girl sighed as she looked at Esme, "But in reality... So far winter for me is always about reading books next to the christmas tree or accompanying my parents on their year-end business trip abroad. I've never having fun in winter. Pretty sad, isn't it?" Sere shrugged, "But I am used to it. So, it's fine. I still love this season the most." She asked Esme, "How about your family? Any cultural or fun things you always do in this season?"

"Why is your family so busy? How do you manage it all, do you make a lot of money because of it? How does you family feel about magic?" She asks at rapid fire, a new question always replacing the last as she thinks of new things to ask after the previous. "I bet you'd be a great Auror, you always think ahead."
She does indeed catch on, beaming back an toothy smile, she couldn't help it, it was pretty much instinctual. "Aw, Sere." She gives Sere a quick hug, this was a rare phenomenon, something most people have not felt from her, and as Esme finally pulled away, she gave a little look around to see if anyone saw. "Apologies, if you don't like hugs...."
"Oh yeeeah, that would not fly in China, maybe we just age really fast, once you're old and fat, nobody wants you, it's kinda sad." She was kinda disappointed in that stigma, but she understood it somewhat, who realistically wants to marry as an elder, it just didn't feel right to her. On the topic of Esme's love life, she got a little feeling in her stomach, like she was falling off a cliff, she got rosy in the face, a big smile on her face. "W-well, there's this girl, and her name's Aliana. She's super cute... she talks in such a smooth way, and she like's affection but it just doesn't feel embarrassing coming from her, it's interesting really..." She looks at a nearby bookshelf, smiling but unable to hold eye-contact as she giggles.
"Very sad, I must say. But I'm glad you can still find glee in this season, truly the season to be jolly, as they say. My family isn't quite as busy as your's, my mama stays at home, my siblings are looking for jobs and my grandparents don't really ever leave the house, nǎinai tends to get us ready for the Dongzhi Festival, it's all really fun, a time for all of us to get together." She taps her chin. "Do you do any cultural things at home?"
