Finally here Closed

“Don't worry. I don't blame you.” Holly smiled, “Maybe I mentioned it once and I just don't remember it.” She blamed it on her tiredness, “I actually lived in Ireland until I was two years old.”, It was a long day after all, “But we had to move because my mother couldn't help starting quarrels with everyone.”

Normal things? Does she mean muggle stuff? Now it also makes sense why Andrea had never heard of her family.

“Are you muggle born?”, Don't worry, Holly had nothing against Muggles or non-pure-blooded wizards*witches. She just had no idea how Muggles lived.

“Do muggles not use anything magical? No spells? No magical items? How do they survive?”, Andrea can call her silly, but if it says that Holly doesn't know anything about Muggles, then she REALLY doesn't know anything. It wasn't meant to be malicious (and also wasn't meant to be racist), but Holly's a pure-blooded witch, and she's never had contact with a Muggle. She just doesn't know a magic-free lifestyle, but she was very interested, and she became curious. Maybe she got Andrea to talk more about Muggles and how they lived so completely without magic.

It all started with the cooking. Then where did it end? Andrea found this normal. How different was their normal to each other? Questions after questions. Holly almost exploded with curiosity. What an interesting Friend she found.

“Yes, and it seems like your not.” she answered and smiled. Andrea didn’t know a lot about the way wizards lived outside Hogwarts and she had never been inside a wizard family’s home before. “No we don’t, but I guess when you think about it, it would be so much easier to use magic and spells to make food.” She wasn’t sure if it was impossible for muggles to use magic or if they just didn’t know about it, but if it was possible and legal they should start using it for things like making food.

Andrea didn’t mind telling Holly about the way muggles lived or about her family life. She herself would love to know more about how pure-blood families lived and how Holly and her family did things normally.
She was jealous of pure-bloods because they grew up with magic, but now she realized that she didn’t even know what type of magic they grew up with. She even realized that she didn’t even know what they used magic for In their homes and life. She had always thought they lived like normal people or muggles like it was called here, but that they just knew how to do spells. Like how to turn things blue and make things fly and such.

“Do you have any other questions about muggles? I would love to answer them.” she said and smiled at Holly.

“Well, I am, as they call it, pure-blooded.”, she explained and smiled, “And make cooking easier...”, she thought about it, “Maybe not with my mother, but otherwise, I'm sure.”
How they lived without magic. Muggles are fascinating, at least for Holly.

"So, if you answer my questions, I'll answer your questions, you should have any. Deal?" Fairness must be, at least in her mind.

“Do Muggles not even use wands? So, they can't use magic at all? And fly with a broom? Can't they learn to fly? Don't you use owls? Do you have any other beings for the mail? And since I know so little, how much do Muggles know about us and our world?”

Now also came a question that she definitely wanted to ask someone who knew muggles. This question had arisen once when her father was upset about a department in his work. When she asked him, he already was back focused on his files and piles of his work and didn’t hear her anymore... What a Workhorse.

Anyway, she asked Andrea now, “What's the use of a rubber duck? Do you really have ducks out of rubber? What kind of noise are they making? Is the sound as cute as I think it is? What do you feed them?”, she added as well, “I've been going through all kinds of animal books, but I've never found any information about this rubber duck. Are they so unexplored? Are they rare?”

“Deal.” Andrea said hoping she would know all the answers to all of Holly’s questions. She didn’t think Holly would be mad if she didn’t know the answer, but this was questions about her family and people she had lived around her hole life. It would be pretty embarrassing not knowing the answers.

“Do muggles not even use wants?” Holly asked. Andrea looked at Holly a bit shocked. She thought pure-blooded people knew a bit more about muggles then this. She didn’t laugh at Holly or anything, it was just not what type of question she had expected. She had expected a question more like, how does a tv work. A question she didn’t really know the answers of. “No, not like the wants here. A want in the muggle world it most likely a plastic stick that doesn’t do anything.” she answers Holly with a smile.

“So they can’t use magic at all? And fly with a broom? Can’t they learn to fly?” Holly asked. Andrea wasn’t sure if she had as many questions about pure-bloods and the magical world as Holly had about muggles, but she still had to answer Holly’s questions. “I don’t know if muggles can use magic, but I don’t think they can. I don’t think they know how to do it right and they don’t learn spells in the muggle world.” Andrea took a moment before answering the other question. “I think it’s a bigger chance that muggles can use a want then a broom.”

“Don’t you use owls? Do you have any other beings for the mail? And since I know so little, how much do muggles know about us and or world?” “No, we use something we call a phone to send messages. Some muggles send letters, but I’m pretty sure most people just send mails and messages on their phones. Should she explained what a phone is? She wasn’t sure if Holly knew what it was. Did they have phones in this world? “It’s a bit hard to explain what a phone is, but you can do a lot on it. You can send messages, play games and take photos and a lot more.” Andrea felt like it was a bit weird explaining what a phone was to someone her age. You obviously never had to do that in the muggle world. “Muggles know nothing about this world and most muggles doesn’t believe in magic.” she said thinking she just answered Holly’s last question.

She took herself together and answered Holly’s question as good as she could. “It’s really just a duck made out of rubber and I don’t think they are for anything important. It’s just a duck toy really, and it’s mostly used in the bathtub because it floats.” Andrea had to think a little, did they make a cute noise? She wasn’t sure what noice Holly thought a rubber duck made, but she couldn’t seem to remember it being a cute noise. “It makes a squeaky type of noice if I remember right. It’s a long time since I’ve heard the noise of a rubber duck so I might remember wrong.”

After Andrea had answered all of Holly’s questions it was now her turn to ask. She thought for a few minutes before she started asking Holly about wizards and this magical world. “Can pure-blood babies and kids use magic or don’t you learn to use magic before your going to Hogwarts?” Andrea knew that they grew up with magic around them, but she wasn’t sure if they actually used it themselves before going to Hogwarts. “And how do you wizards and witches celebrate Christmas?” “When can witches and wizards start playing quidditch?” “How do you listen to music in this world?” The last question was something Andrea had been wondering about for a long time now. When she was on the train she discovered that her headphones didn’t work so she asked a teacher for help to fix them, but they said they didn’t work because she was at Hogwarts so she really didn’t know what wizards and witches used to listen to music if they couldn’t us a phones or headphones.

Phone? Holly had never heard of a phone-thingy in her life. And with it, they can not only send messages but also play games and take pictures? How fascinating! Holly couldn't imagine what such a thing would look like, but it had to be cool.

About the rubber duck. Welp, that was embarrassing, and Holly blushed. So, a duck wasn't a living thing? It was a toy. Well, at least she knew something new.

“Can pure-blood babies and kids use magic or don’t you learn to use magic before your going to Hogwarts?”, Andrea asked her. Holly could only talk about her experience, not about other families and their attitudes/traditions or whatever. “So, you know that with the first-Instance-of-Magic-thingy right? This is magic that we didn't practice on purpose that happens. But learning and using spells, no, not that.” Her mother wouldn't have the nerve and would most likely lose her voice forever with all the screaming, especially with Alfred.

“And how do you wizards and witches celebrate Christmas?” Christmas? Doesn't every family have their own kind of that Holiday? “My family decorates the house and a fir tree. We invite relatives and eat together. Afterward, we'll sing carols and exchange gifts. Why is it weird?” Her family had some who celebrated Hanukkah instead of Christmas, but her family also had people who celebrated Christmas even though they were atheists and still sang very Christian songs. At Christmas, everyone who belonged to the Adams family came.

“When can witches and wizards start playing quidditch?” Holly wasn't particularly interested in sports, much less her brother, except he was a good-for-nothing. “Many start in the second year, or later. The important thing is that you can fly on a broom.”

“How do you listen to music in this world?”, “Radio or Live”, How else? Her mother could play some instruments, but she interrupts herself over and over again, out of anger, out of whatever, over and over again.

Now it was Holly's turn again with a question. And the question was to be expected. No joke.

“It’s not weird, it’s the same way my family does it and most muggle families who celebrate Christmas. I just wondered if they celebrated differently in this world.”” she said again with a friendly smile.

They had radio’s and instruments in the muggle world too and Andrea knew what it was, but it wasn’t the way she used to listen to music. She normally used her phone and her headphones to listen to music so it was a bit different having to listen to music on the radio. Most of the songs that were playing in the hufflepuff dormitory on one of the students radio were old jazz which was a type of music Andrea hated listening to. On the radio you couldn’t choose between a lot of different songs and that was the main reason Andrea hated the radio.

“I’ve never heard of a phone. What does this thing look like? What else can it do?”
“well there’s different type of phones. The newest ones have better cameras and are bigger then the old smartphones. Some phones can only be used for calling and you can’t play games or take photos with them. Most phones like that are hanging on the wall and can’t be taken out of the house because- well because they are stuck on the wall.” She answer trying her best to explain to Holly what a phone did and what it was.

It was now Andrea’s turn to ask Holly questions, but she didn’t have any more questions about pure-blood families or about witches and wizards. “I don’t really have any other questions. Do you have more questions you think I know the answer of?” She asked Holly. If Holly didn’t have any more questions about muggles, it was fine. Andrea still wanted to talk and have a conversation with Holly, but it didn’t have to be about muggles and wizards and witches. “What if we get to know each other better? I don’t know a lot about you.” she questioned Holly.

Well, at least in some things Muggle and pure-blooded families were similar. At least as far as Christmas is concerned. Or at least Holly's family and Andrea's family. Which secretly made Holly happy that they were not that different from each other.

Holly loved music but didn't really have a specific type there, as long as it wasn’t too slow or in her words: Boring, she normally liked it.

But Holly still did not know exactly what a phone was, but she could at least get the picture. For her, a phone was a thing that had different shapes and different abilities. It reminded her a little of all the different kinds of wands. Were phones like the wands of the Muggles?

Anyway, Holly also didn't have any more questions at the time about muggles, “If you have any more questions at any time, you can ask them at any time, but remember that I can only say some things from the perspective of my family or my own experience.”, she shortly after adds, “And I'm not omniscient. Don’t forget that.”

But the idea is good to find out more about Andrea herself. She was curious. “I don't know much about you either.”, she smiles at her, “What do you want to know?”
