It was a quiet little sanctuary in the Hogwarts library. A sanctuary from those who spoke too loudly, too harshly, too rashly, or too rudely. In a way, the actions of others weren’t what got on this girl’s nerves. No, it was the unfamiliarity. She didn’t know many of these people except for a select few, and even fewer which she could say she was beginning to know well. You see, she didn’t have many friend-making skills...

She was a little over five feet, sitting at a small table with a set of graphite pencils and a sketchbook. Another great thing about the library: it provided clean inspiration for an artist. The thousands of books all lined up... you were bound to find something to draw...

Not that she was only drawing. She also had a fairly thick book open almost to the half point, and every once in a while, if you were looking, you could se her sneak a glance at it and read a page or two before returning to her artwork. Her hazel eyes would examine the sketch from every angle, trying to see if her proportioning looked right; if the shading was good enough. The waves of caramel-brown hair that fell over her shoulders tickled. A giggle spilled out of her lips, but it was a quiet one; one that not many would hear. Only if one was standing close to her.

Her name was Koko, Koko Riddle, and she was seemingly quiet. Day to day, her personality would change, but this time she felt very strongly. Not one emotion, not even two. She felt the artist’s pull that one would feel when looking at something that could be considered amazing art.

Peeking another glance at the book, she sighed. It was an anthology of Shakespeare’s plays, and the one she was reading now was titled Hamlet. Definitely a tragedy. Koko was one who liked this sort of thing, though she knew many who didn’t. It was just her personal preference of reading. Koko really enjoyed classics. Classic novels, classic poetry—and her own poetry! She was fine with that!

They always said that books could take you into another wold; that was true, but Koko just couldn’t imagine herself into the Elizabethan Era. With a sigh, she finally tore her eyes away from the book and waited. What was she waiting for? Perhaps for someone to approach her. Perhaps for a doorway into a new world.

I was walking through the halls towards the library, hands full of books, papers, and art supplies, when a 2nd year Slytherin knocked into me. I immediately fell and my stuff scattered, "Watch it!", sneered the Slytherin boy whom's fault it really was. "Sorry.", I politely say picking up my things. After finally getting all of my stuff in a neat pile, I continued towards the library.

After getting to the library, I notice there is a Slytherin 1st year sitting at a table alone sketching something, while sneaking glances at an extremely thick book. I wonder to myself, "what is she sketching?", I decide to find out.

I slowly start to approach her, and I think aloud in a whisper, "I hope she's nice and not one of those mean Slytherins."

”I hope she’s not another one of those mean Slytherins.”
Who was that? Libraries didn’t usually have many people... Unless it was a library at her old school. That library was usually full.

"I certainly hope the same," Koko muttered in reply to the other girl who had spoken, without looking up from her sketchbook. She didn't want to seem rude, so after a moment she did glance up. "I take it that wasn't supposed to be said aloud," Koko added wryly at the expression at the other girl's face. "I'm Koko. What's your name?" she asked.

Koko wasn't always the most friendly person; that was an attribute of her personality that she wasas still improving. But even if she wasn't friendly, she was still fairly good with people. Koko closed her sketchbook, hoping that the new Slytherin hadn't gotten a glimpse of the sketch she'd drawn of her little brother's crush. She would owl it to him later. It probably wasn't very accurate, but it was hand-drawn with a set of pencils that her old friend Cy had given her for her birthday. While Koko didn't like people looking at her art, that didn't mean that it was necessarily bad. She flashed a small smile at the other girl and waited for a reply.

OOC: Sorry for the wait! I usually reply somewhat quicker than this, but when I have schoolwork (Over the weekend; it's terrible!) or even homework, or when I have to clean, I'm much slower replying to RPG threads and so I spend a little (or a lot) of time in the Game Room!

that's fine.

I soon respond to Koko, "I'm Rosa. Rosa Spellwand, I'm in Hufflepuff. Pretty new at Hogwarts." I waited for a reply. "If I may ask, what was it you were sketching?".......No reply. I glance at Koko. I soon realize why she hasn't responded, she was extremely engrossed in the thick book. I decide to grab a book myself, but first, I find a nice, comfy bean bag chair to sit on. I set down my things by the chair and search for a book. I find a nice one written by a muggle that I had already read many times before, "The Road Not Taken, and other poems". I open the book to a random page, look at it, and recite, whispering, from memory "Two roads diverged in a wood, and I-I took the one less traveled by, and that has made all the difference." I stop reading briefly, not completely sure why, I turn to another page. "The Raven, by Edgar Allan Poe", I read to myself. I close the book knowing the poem word by word. What's the point? I think to myself. There's no point in reading a book that you already know word by word, letter by letter! I sometimes wonder if I was put in the right house, because I'm in Hufflepuff, and I still don't have many friends, but I'm loyal, and I have all the other Hufflepuff attributes, so, I'm meant to be in Hufflepuff. I glance over at Koko, she is sketching again.

The other girl had taken a book. No, not the other girl. Rosa. Rosa Spellwand, a Hufflepuff. Koko set down the pencil and closed the book. She was tired of reading for today, and her hand was starting to cramp from drawing. She knew that, being ambidexterous, she could use her other hand, bu she didn't want to. "Just... whatever comes to mind," she responded hesitantly. Hesitantly, with a quiet voice. Koko hadn't earned any detentions yet, nor did she wish to get one today.

Koko peeked out of her peripheral vision to see Rosa reading a book. It seemed to be a poetry book...

"Do you think that Annabel Lee by Edgar Allen Poe would be in there?" Koko whispered. She certainly hoped so. It was one of her favorite poems, the other being Invictus, and she knew it by heart. For a moment she wondered about what the Hufflepuff house was like--if they were all as unassuming as Koko had thought prior to meeting Rosa, or if they were all as seemingly interesting as her.

"How do you like Hufflepuff?" Koko asked her with a soft smile. She closed her sketchbook and moved it under her book, sliding them both under the table. She let her eyelids flutter shut to block out some of the light in the library, and she relaxed for a moment before opening her eyes to wait for a reply.

"Annabel Lee is in here, as are many other poems by Edgar Allen Poe." I knew the entire book by heart, as I knew that poem. There was also, by Edgar Allen Poe, Dreamland, Eldorado, and Enigma. My favorite poem was indefinitely The Road Not Taken, by Robert Frost. I think to myself, "She's interested in poetry like me? Finally someone I can relate with!"

"Hufflepuff is okay I guess. I spend most my time in the leaky cauldron when I should be doing work. I haven't gotten any of the assignments done yet", I say. I was bored. "You can only be bored if you're boring, because there are always things to do, places to explore, and ALWAYS things to imagine", that's what my dad always said, but nonetheless, I was bored.

I wondered, "Am I boring? Is that why i'm bored?". I knew I wasn't in my point of view, but what about other people? "Do they think i'm boring?", I wonder. Me usually not being one to care about other peoples opinions, I decide to find out.

"Do you think i'm boring? I ask straightforwardly. Waiting for a reply which undoubtedly would be a yes, or a yes differently put, I walk over to the beanbag chair of which I had previously set my belongings and pick up my art materials. I sit down at a table near Koko and start drawing a realistic picture of a hippogriff. It was turning out pretty well.

"N-no, you're really not boring. If anything, I'm boring," Koko said in response to the Hufflepuff's worries. She shifted in her seat, realising that she'd said something which put her in an awkward position. "Mind if I take a look in your book?" Koko asked, and without a reply, let her fingers close around the poetry book. Koko set it in her lap and began leafing through the pages. She was looking for a story, not really a poem, but written by a poet. The Tell Tale Heart, by Edgar Allen Poe.

Looking up from the book, Koko asked, "Have you ever written any poems?" She was truly interested, and seeing as the other girl had an interest in poetry, perhaps Koko could spark a friendship. Koko snuck a peek at the Hippogriff that the other girl was sketching as she waited for a reply. "By the way, that's a nice drawing," she whispered. She smiled at the other girl, trying to seem less distant. Even though Koko could sometimes come off as cold or distant, she really was warm and bubbly on the inside and she could be a very good friend if one were nice enough to become close friends with her. She leaned back in the cushiony chair, admiring the books layered along the walls. Libraries, bookstores--even paper, they all smelled good to the Slytherin. A soft smirk on her face, she closed her eyes in bliss, just inhaling.

Sorry for the SUPER late and shabby response! I've had homework and I've been busy over Spring Break, but that's really no excuse. I will try to make there less of a wait.
