What a crazy day yesterday had been, Alberic thought to himself. The train ride from London to Hogwarts, the boat ride across the lake, the Sorting Ceremony and the feast that followed. He couldn’t wait to write his parents to tell them all about it, or owl them as one of the other students had told him. Surely an owl couldn’t fly all the way back to the U.S. Oh well! Alberic would solve that riddle at another time. Classes hadn’t started yet and he was on a mission. Frog Hunting!

Frog hunting was one of Alberic’s favorite pastimes. A creek ran through his parents property and he would spend hours chasing them around, trying to catch them to take home for the evening to study. He heard some of the other students talking about keeping them as pets! Something his mother would have never tolerated. Maybe one day he would get a toad of his own.

It was just around noon when Al made it down to the lake’s edge, perfect lighting for spotting his four legged targets. The sun was out, something Alberic had been warned wasn’t going to be a constant at his new home, which made for a warm day. He knelt down by the shoreline, keeping still as he began to scan for signs of movement. A few moments later something odd flashed out of the corner of his eye.

A streak of purple not too far off from where he sat now. He looked closer to she it was the hair of a young witch. Alberic had seen people with dyed hair before, but when she turned to look his way, Al’s jaw nearly dropped. Her eyes were purple as well. He was on his feet moving towards her before he even knew it. With a shy wave, Alberic approached her.

“Hey there. Sorry, didn’t mean to stare.” He called out in his thick, Southern American accent. “I just...well...is your hair and eyes naturally purple like that?” His cheeks became a little flushed as he stumbled over his words. It was kind of a silly question.

The sun was out. Luna closed her book and put it inside the bag that she bought with. Her lavender eyes looked at the sky. How could it still be so nice, when the sun had already been out, but we still couldn't see the stars and the beautiful moon? But it was. That was why she decided to stop reading. Luna agreed that she loved reading, but looking at the sky and letting her thought to somewhere else was something that she loved more. Not to mention, the lake's edge wasn't loud like the ground, this was sure a perfect place to relax.

Yesterday was quite a tired day, however, the little snake still managed to find the perfect places to read books. First of all, it was the library. Quiet, but there were a lot of people. They didn't talk, but the little snake still felt a bit uncomfortable. Second, the Slytherin's common room. Everything was perfect, however, she preferred to read outside more. The ground was a choice too, but there were a lot of people and they made a lot of noises... That was why she chose to read books near the lake.

Luna was going to think more about things in Hogwarts, however, she felt that someone was looking at her. She turned her head to find that mysterious person. Finally, she saw a little boy, who looked like he was the same age as her. Why was he looking at her like that? Luna decided not to say anything, she just simple look at him and wait for the guy to talk.

"Hello and don't worry, I don't mind." After saying those, she turned her gaze to her hair and then smiled, "Ah, yeah. Everyone in my family, except for my mother, has purple hair. And since my mother has purple eyes, I have them too."

Alberic looked into Luna’s eyes, still having a hard time believing that they weren’t contact lenses. The high noon sun reflected within them. It reminded him of the astronomy books he used to look through at the library back home. The swirling shades of purple and lavender seemed like far off galaxies trapped in her eyes. Had he been older he may have found them attractive, but for now it was an innocent fascination.

Luna went on to explain that all her family members, besides her mother shared the same shade of hair, and what a beautiful coincidence that her mother would have purple eyes. It was just another example of how much Alberic had to learn about his newfound world, and that although he just seemed like any other boy from Eastern Tennessee, he shared the same magic that flowed through Luna.

“My goodness. That’s crazy...umm...well not crazy...” He stumbled over his words again, not wanting to insult her. “It’s just really cool.” He laughed nervously as he replied. “Is that cuz you come from a magic family. Well...I guess we all come from magic families, don’t we? I just mean, I ain’t ever met no one with naturally purple hair. How’d that happen?”

Luna chuckled a bit when she realized that Alberic was a bit nervous. That was cute of him, she thought. The Slytherin girl started to feel more comfortable, she said with a smile on her face, "I'm glad it looks like that to you. I know some people who have the same eye colour and hair colour as you too, but yours have their own charm and believe me, they look beautiful." Those weren't non-sense words - Luna really wanted to compliment Alberic, but she was just an eleven years old girl, who wasn't good in compliments. So finally, Luna decided to pick a compliment that she had heard somewhere before... That didn't sound weird, right...? She hoped so.

"Not everyone in Hogwarts come from a magic family, there are some people who are Muggle-born, you know. And some Half-Blood too, I think?" Luna had read a lot of things about Half-Blood wizards, however, she hadn't talked with one so the little snake wasn't really sure about that. "Well... I'm a Pure-Blood, and my family is kind of... a noble one , you know, but don't care about that much." Luna sighed, she actually didn't care about that too much as her big brother...

"Forgot to introduce myself, my name is Luna, Luna Choi. And I'm from... Slytherin." She stopped and looked at his espression. Of course, the girl was proud because she was a Slytherin, but she knew that there were a lot of people who hated Slytherins. Alberic didn't seem like one of them, however, she shouldn't guess about how he was when they just knew only a few minutes.

Alberic’s face split into a big crooked toothed grin as she complimented him. It was nice to meet a friendly person on his first true day at Hogwarts. He hoped most of the other students would be kind like her.

“Oh yeah, my ma and pa told me about magic blood. Ya see, I’m the first person in my family born with magic since my great granddaddy. Still, none of em had purple hair.”

He chuckled at his own joke, a habit that had been with him for most of his life. Alberic was easily amused, almost always able to find humor or silliness in any situation.

“Ma told me that I was a half blood, cuz my great granddaddy married a non magic lady...or whatcha call em? Muggsels? Anyways, we used to be pure bloods too I guess, my great granddaddy was from here back in the day. Went to Hogwarts himself. They named me after him ya know.”

Alberic looked up at the castle as he told the brief version of his families story. He wondered where his great grandfather had stayed during his time at Hogwarts, what was he like, was Alberic anything like him? She spoke of being from a noble family, being placed in Slytherin, and her name was Luna. He liked that.

“Hot Dawg! You from a noble family!? Y’all like royalty or somethin?” Alberic asked wide eyed, as he let on to his ignorance of British and Magical culture. “House Slytherin eh? The one with the cool snake thingy? I like that, I got Hufflepuff.” He spoke quickly as he often did when excited. The name Slytherin had no effect on him. “Oh! And I’m Alberic by the way.” He extended his hand for a proper greeting.

Did he really like purple hair or something? Hearing him talking about himself but still mention the colour of her hair made her felt quite funny. But then, when she thought again about what he just said... The little Slytherin wondered why was his family like that, it was the first time for her to hear about someone that had a special family like it. She was going to ask him more about it, but he had already told her before she could do anything.

"Muggles" She corrected. This was her first time, meeting a Half-Blood. "You sure are lucky, being able to use magic like your great grandfather." As for her, being Pure-Blood wasn't too important, but she still didn't believe that there could be a wizard who loved a Muggle and was accepted - until the little Slytherin met Alberic.

"Hmm you see, my family is an old wizard family, we are quite rich but not royalty. Just noble."

"Yeah, Slytherin is the one with the snake. You find it cool?" That sure wasn't the answer that she expected, but this was sure a better answer. "Yeah, your uniform is yellow after all." Alberic? He didn't give her his last name... Guess that I will call him by his name... Usually, Luna called the others by their last name, but it was okay for her to call the other in this new way...

"By the way, the way you talk..." Of course Luna noticed about the way Alberic talked. She just didn't think that she should ask it at first - The little Slytherin thought that they would just talk only a bit to each other...

”Yup! I sure am!” Alberic responded enthusiastically. “Ma told me he run off with a...muggle lady,” He made sure to pronounce it correctly this time, “which I guess was a big deal back in his day. Well, maybe it still is, I dunno? They had a boy together, but he couldn’t do no magic. Anyways, they run off the the U.S. cuz they thought it’d be safer and nobody in the family was able to do magic since. Well, not till I come along.” Alberic smiled big with those last words. His family had been so excited when he started to show some magical abilities. It made him feel special. The Bragge’s had long lost hope that another witch or wizard would be born in the bloodline.

His eyebrows raised as Luna told him she came from a wealthy family and that they were considered a nobles. He had never really met anyone rich as the community back home was a poorer one. Alberic daydreamed of large mansions and sprawling estates. She questioned him thinking Slytherin was cool.

“You betcha! Snakes is way cooler than a dang badger.” He cringed when she spoke of his house colors. “Yeah. I ain’t too excited bout wearing yellow, never been a color I like so much. Green is nice though.” Luna asked him about his speech, he assumed she meant his accent. Yeah, I know I talk a bit funny.” His eyes looked to the ground. Alberic was quite aware that most of the students here had a British accent, or an accent from one of the other countries in the UK. He hoped it wouldn’t be something he would be made fun of. “It’s just the way some of us talk back in Tennessee.” He looked back up to Luna to judge here reaction.

"Sadly, it is still." Luna sighed and thought about her parents. The only thing that she didn't agree with them was about blood. They thought to be a Pure-Blood was important, but Luna didn't think so. Even if they were Pure-Blood, if they were lazy, they could be even weaker than a Muggle-Born.

"Snakes are nice. Badges are cute, lions are good, ravens are nice too." For Luna, she didn't hate any houses, so the girl tried to compliment all of them, "I like white or silver. Black is nice too, but my favorite color is purple. Lucky that Slytherin has silver and green." And this uniform was perfect to climb trees, she loved the fresh air from up there and the view.

"Oh, it's not funny, I think it's... nice." The little Slytherin was going to say 'cute', but she suddenly remembered what her big brother said. Guys didn't like to be called cute, she didn't know if it was true or not, but Luna should be careful.

"What did Mr. Sorting Hat tell you yesterday? Did he mention any houses other than Hufflepuff?" The girl asked and thought about the Sorting ceremony and what happened back then.

Alberic’s smile faded into a small frown as Luna explained that it was still taboo for pure bloods to marry outside of their status. He was sure his great granddaddy would have hoped for a brighter future for his descendants. It must have been a sad day for him to have to flee his home, family, and country to pursue the love in his heart. His whole life uprooted simply because he loved a muggle.

It made Alberic worry that this new life, this new community wouldn’t be much different than the one he had left behind. Rural Tennessee was a beautiful place, but he wouldn’t miss the closed mindedness and outdated beliefs that came with it. Fortunately for the young boy he had been brought up differently, always taught that love and acceptance were the key to living a happy life.

Alberic’s frown didn’t last long, as his smile came back instantly as Luna paid him another compliment. He was happy to know that his differences would be accepted by at least some of his new peers. She asked him of his experience with the sorting hat.

“Oh man! That was wild. Couldn’t believe that they got a talkin hat. Think it read my mind! It even remembered my great granddaddy! It thought about puttin me in Gryffindor like he was, but decided I’d be better off in Hufflepuff. Said it suited my nature. What about you? Did it put ya in Slytherin right away?”

Wild... Interesting, Luna didn't expect the little Hufflepuff to compliment with that word, though it did sound like something that he would say. "There are actually a lot of things that can talk, but Mr. Sorting Hat is sure awesome" She rarely used that word, but the girl knew that it was the word which fit the most about her opinion to Mr. Sorting Hat. " Yeah, it sure has good memory just like Mister Ollivander, the man who sells wands." In their first meeting, he talked with her a lot about her family's wand, from youngest to oldest who had been here.

A Gryffindor... That could suit Alberic too, she wasn't surprised to know that. " It mentioned Hufflepuff, but Mr Sorting Hat said Slytherin or Ravenclaw would suit me better. And then it told me to choose between the two houses. But since I knew that it knew where did I fit the most, so I just let it guess. And now, I'm in Slytherin" Of course, it didn't mean that she didn't like Ravenclaw, it was just... Slytherin attracted to her more... "I wonder when is the last time people clean it, seriously... It was kind of angry when I thought it was dirty."
