A Letter In The Night
Minnie couldn't sleep, she was too homesick. She tossed and turned in her bed, wishing for a way to contact her family. She didn't want to talk to the head of the house because as pure blood, she thought that she shouldn't feel homesick. I hate myself for this. I just have to talk to them though. She thought, annoyed at herself. Minnie slipped out of bed and crept into the common room. She looked both ways to see if anyone was there, and then ran like crazy out of the common room.
Minnie darted around in the shadows and up the seven floors to the Owlry. She crept to open the door when she heard the noise of a professor. Minnie held her breath and hid herself in the shadows. A professor walked by, most likely on patrol. When the professor had completely gone, Minnie breathed a sigh of relief. That was close She thought. Minnie crept into the Owlry and gasped.
The Owlry had millions of amazing owls. The owls themselves were beautiful, and they had all sorts of colors and patterns. And the homes that the owls nested in were amazing. Minnie shook herself off and set her mind to her task; to send a letter. She grabbed an owl and tied her letter to its leg. She had almost sent it off when she heard a noise and before she could move, someone came in.

Nick couldn't sleep. The day was so interesting that even after two hours of lying in bed he couldn't sleep and were thinking about the day. After an amazing trip by the train with beautiful landscapes and mountains, after the Sorting Ceremony where Nick became a member of Hufflepuff, after the beginning of a new life anong wizards Nick just physically couldn't sleep. "Well, now I'm in Hufflepuff. As I can understand Hufflepuff is more then other houses about friendship and hard work. Yeah, it'd be cool to find close friends here as I have never had real friends. Oh, the Room where we had our Sorting Ceremony was so enormous. I have never seen such a big one. And these walls... They're so high and beautiful. O, it'd be cool to have a walk outside the school. I really wanna see all the breathtaking landscapes around the castle. Yes, and I still have no ideas about the lessons... What will be alike? Yeah, I loved our headmaster Solomon Lear. He looks kind and understanding. But anyway I hope It'll never have problems with him..." Nick's brain were flying in dreams but didn't want to sleep. Suddenly, Nick got an idea "I said nothing to my father... Poor dad, he's worrying. I MUST send him an email. Oh, there are no emails here... Owles... I should go to the Owlery. Well, it may be prohibited, but... First, I don't know about it and, second, I should tell my dad everything".
Nick stand up and went to the Boy's Dormitory. There was fire in the fireplace so Nick had an opportunity to write:
Dear daddy,
I had an amazing day. It all is so fascinating.
First, I love these people, they don't touch me and we can live in peace. I hope I'll make some friends here. It will be so cool. We still had no lessons, but I'm looking forward to start studying. Oh, yeah, I forgot about Houses... Well, here in the Hogwarts there are 4 houses: Griffindor, Slytherin, Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff. The first one is about bravery etc. The second is about ambitious, the third one is about brain and the last one is about friendship and hard work. I got the last one. I think it can really help me to make some friends. And also there's some competition between the Houses but I basically don't understand it yet.
Oh, you know how do they name normal people? Muggles! Huh, I still can't pronounce it correctly. And also, I'm sorry, but I have spent all the money in the train on food. I'm so sorry, but I forgot to eat and had to find some food there. Yes, I've already mentioned friendly community but I've spent cool time in the train talking to several interesting people. Oh, yeah, did you know where does the Hogwarts located? In Scotland! It so cool here, I'm enjoying its landscapes! Well, as it's midnight here I think I've to go now, I'm sorry. I'll send you another owl tomorrow.

Nick left Boys' Dormitory and left Hufflepuff common room. He was looking for a way to Owlery and spent about a half an hour going trough long same looking corridors. Nick was lucky and saw no professors that night. Finally he reached his destination. But he saw a light inside it. "OMG, they'll not be happy when they see me!" Nick thought in panic. But he decided to finish his job and entered the room. Imagine his shock when he saw a girl which were the same age with Nick. Several seconds Nick were just staring at her. Then he said "Hello. Hm... What are you doing here in midnight? Oh, yes, what's your name? And what House do you belong to?"

"Hello. Hm... What are you doing here in midnight? Oh, yes, what's your name? And what House do you belong to?" A boy was standing at the door. Minnie's panic faded slightly. It wasn't a teacher, it was just a boy. Who could still rat her out. She mentally pictured her letter, wanting to have it memorized so that she could rewrite at a reasonable hour.
Dear Mum, Da, and Jack,
I really miss you. I'm in Hufflepuff (Don't be ashamed.) which I know is a suprise with Mum and Da and Lil being Slytherin. But I'm fine, I think I'm going to make some friends soon. I love all the magic and now I have so many ideas for baking! Jack, I'll bring you a picture of some magical creatures, they're awesome! Mum and Da, I'll send you a cake and my first test result.(Let's hope it's an O) I'm having a magical time. Miss you.

While the girl was writing something down Nick found an owl and send it. It was rather difficult for Nick to do it for the first time in his life, but he had done it somehow.
The girl answered him. Her name was Minnie Duke. She asked Nick not to rick her out and Nick realised that his walk to the Owlery in midnight wasn't really legal... She was on Hufflepuff and she wasn't lucky about it. "She named it the worst house! Why?! It all looks well for me with my house. Hufflepuff members are all really friendly and open guys, it's pleasant to talk to them. I love my house. So what's wrong with it? She even asked not to tell anybody about it! I don't understand her" Nick's brain was ful of thoughts.
"Well, yes, I won't rat you out, I don't think it's good for me, hah. Yes, I also have done the same. I'm muggle-born, so I was thinking about all the day... I was dreaming for two hours... And decided to write something to my dad." Nick said. The he decided to ask her about the House "I'm sorry, but what's wrong with the House? I'm also from Hufflepuff, and for me it looks amazing to be among them... Of course, I don't have lots of info about it, so I wanna ask: do you know something wrong about the House?"
"Oh, yeah she gave me really strange task. Well, of course, I can tell nothing about her House but everybody will see her tomorrow in the Hufflepuff Common Room. I think it's impossible to save such a secret!" Nick were thinking. "And as for your idea to keep in secret your House. I think that everybody will see you tomorrow in Hufflepuff Common Room and during breakfast! And what's wrong with Hufflepuff?.." Nick repeated...

Minnie blushed. "I-well there's nothing wrong with it. It just isn't the house I want to be in. I want to be in Slytherin. And my entire family is in Slytherin, were pure-bloods. I love how this house is me, but I know that it qualifies as bad in my family's book. So I think that it's embarrassing and a dishonor to my family's name to be a Hufflepuff, and I don't want my sister to know." She blushed harder. I can't believe I admitted that to a total stranger. He must hate me for saying that. She thought. Minnie turned away from the boy to send her letter off. "Go to the Duke family house. Okay owl?" The owl nibbled her and flew off, she hoped that was a yes. She then turned back to the annoyed boy. "What is your name? And why are you here?" She decided to turn the tables on him.
What is he doing out of bed so late? It seems awfully suspicious, but then again, I must seem suspicious to. She thought. She then really looked at him for the first time. He was tall, but skinny with confident green eyes. He had tousled black hair that made him look a bit weird. But really, he looked quite cute and kind. Stop thinking that. She told herself sternly. It was time for some answers.

Nick saw Minnie sending an owl and was realising that it can be wrong to stay here more. He started hearing some sounds etc. Them all were annoying Nick. He started answering to Minnie's question.
Nick said "My name id Nick. And I'm for Hufflepuff, too. Fortunately, I'm not sad about my house as I'm muggle-born and I didn't know anything before I came to Hogwarts. And yeah, I was trying to sleep, but my brain was ful of dreams and hopes. I was lying for two hours, but I had no opportunity to sleep. Suddenly, I understood that I didn't write my dad about all the day. I decided to do it. You know, I have never seen my mother and dad is the only one close to me. He is a muggle and we lived in Plymouth. We are poor. So... I mean, I MUSTED to write him! And, hm, I'm sorry about you. Yeah, it must be sad to go to another house... Hope you'll be better after some time. And, well, I think your sister will realise that you're in Hufflepuff soon as she'll see you in the dinner in the main hall. I think you'd better go to Hufflepuff room with me and we can discuss everything there. Don't you think it'd be better to go there? Here we may meet professors or perfects." Nick came to door and looked at Minnie "Let's go to the Common Room? Don't worry, they all are sleeping there..." suggested Nick.
