Hufflepuff vs Gryffindor: Match 5
Aww, rats. Missed again. Jake had thought he had trained his accuracy well before the stage began, but it seemed he needed even more practice. Maybe it was just being distracted by having so many people on the field? At least it seemed to be getting to the other team too. Jake failed to hit Nicky again, sure, but her Ventus spell hit herself. He hated when that happened, so felt a pang of sympathy for her, but he knew that he couldn't let that stop him. It had taken him years, but some of those not-so-killer instincts had been trained out of him. You couldn't stop fighting, because if you did...well...let's just say the other team sure wasn't going to.

Some duelling teams talked. A lot. Cassius often found conversation mid-duel, even if nothing more than taunts and sharply intended words, to be more a distraction than a boon. That was partially why he was already enjoying this match-up. Both teams were quiet and focused. A testament to what he could only assume was good conditioning and practice by their team captains.
Like the previous exchange, this particular salvo of spells largely resulted in flukes or misses. One of the Gryffindors, a second year no less, managed to dodge many of the incoming attacks from the more experienced students. She was doing well too until a gust of wind from ventus found its mark. Cassius suspected she might have been even worse off if one of the Hufflepuff's spells had not gone far off its mark towards their teammate instead.
It was still anybody's match as the teams seemed at even strength with no clear advantage one way or another. The match went on.

Hufflepuff vs Gryffindor: Match 5
Lucia missed again, twice. "Merlin's beard," she muttered under her breath. What was the point of all the hours she'd put into learning this new skill of casting two spells at once, if she missed every time she used it? Maybe it was just bad luck, or maybe Lucia needed to train her accuracy more. Hopefully she would improve as the match continued.

| ─── | It was still near the beginning of the duel.
Both sides had suffered damage by now but Kim was drowning in an endless pit of darkness. Most of which had nothing to do with the current duel he was taking part in. It was hard for him to focus, hard for him to do much of anything, and yet he was doing his best to focus on casting spells at his opponents. He tried casting the Blindfolding Spell on Lucia this time, switching his target for this round to hopefully make contact this time. But alas, Lucia was able to easily dodge the spell coming in her direction. On the other hand, Lucia didn't have much luck either as she tried to cast Flipendo at both Aries and Elsa. But she ended up missing both of them. Lea was actually the only who had some sort of success against them. She cast Ventus at Elsa and Aries and although didn't hit Elsa, managed to strike the Lions' maknae. But at least Aries was still on her feet and hadn't gotten completely destroyed, which was a good thing. Time would tell as to whether Aries would get revenge for this blow later on. Jake's spell was probably the worst of the lot in this particular round, as it ended up swerving and headed towards one of his fellow teammates. Unfortunately for the Lions, his spell didn't hit Lea. But maybe the next round would be different for them and they could deal a little more damage to the birds. |

ARIES FELT HURT, but not too much. she tried to think about what had happened. remebering lea casting the ventus charm at her. reese brushed it off and stood back up to show her pride and courage. even though she was the youngest and least wise there, she still had to represent her team in a way to make them proud.
she shrugged and glanced an eye at lea. no one in this game really hated aries, and wanted to hurt her that bad anyway. rie looked off in amazement that she just survived her first attack. smiling at her teammates also to silently celebrate the fact that aries's dodging kept lucia's spell away.

Nicky gave Aries an encouraging smile. Despite being hit, the newbie was still holding her ground pretty well and that was impressive, considering everyone on the opposing team was two of three years older than her. Nicky was the oldest on her own team, however, and had to focus on the duel so the smile was a very short one. There was way too much responsibility weighing on her. She couldn't get distracted, she had to keep fighting for the win.

Hufflepuff vs Gryffindor: Match 5
No longer blind and with all Gryffindor duellists up before her, Lea decided to try again at splitting her spell. She'd opt for an easier one this time, the Wind Jinx, a still pretty strong spell despite less concentration needed. It was a good thing too with the Hufflepuff slightly distracted by the lack of movement on the other side- all preparation towards avoiding without hitting back. The spell flew towards both nimble targets, Lea soon realizing there was little chance both would hit as Elsa expertly maneuvered around the spell, but Aries was new with not quite the experience as the other.
The spell landed, blowing the girl back. This would be the time to strategize on what to do next except that a spell would also fly towards Lea from her own team. There was little chance of it hitting her, but she'd be sure to extend the distance even more so as she offered a curious glance over before catching the eye of Aries. Lea would shrug in return, a quick off-handed motion, before focusing once more and ready for the next round.

Well it turned out there WAS something worse than narrowly missing your opponent: missing them completely and having your spell go towards your own team-mate!
”Sorry!!” Jake apologized hastily to his co-captain, blushing, as he shook his wand hand with frustration. Luckily the spell hadn’t hit. He really had to focus here. He could blame it on three-on-three all he wanted but he needed to get his head in the game before it was too late.
They were doing well so far but they really couldn’t have him chucking spells at his team-mates

Cassius carefully watched the next exchange of spells, hand instinctively resting on the edge of his pocketed wand should any spells inadvertently be redirected in his direction. It was not an impossibility that he might get hit, especially considering Jake had not once but twice had his spell miss its mark and careen towards an unintended target. Unfortunately, that target was again a teammate who was able to evade in time to avoid getting hit.
He was not surprised that the Hufflepuffs decided to target Aries who again decided dodging incoming spells was a safer bet than casting some of her own. In that respect it was a good decision as she managed to evade one knockback jinx. Unfortunately for her, a skillfully cast blasting curse from Lea managed to find its mark. Cassius attempted to recall whether he even know what the blasting curse was when he was a second year.
On the Gryffindor side, Kim seemed to have a poor time in casting an incendio spell. At least it did not blow up in his face as Cassius had seen happen to another unfortunate duellist. Else had more luck with the fogging spell that enveloped Lea and Jake. Shrouded behind a wall of fog even Cassius had a difficult time seeing them now.
It was still anybody's match as the duel continued on.

Again, Aries was targeted, by all three duelists on the opposing side. It didn't come as a surprise. Thankfully, luck was with Aries, and she managed to avoid both Lucia and Jake's spells. Jake's attack looked as if his directional skill was lacking by quite a lot because his spell veered off towards his own teammate again. Unfortunately for the Lions, it didn't hit Jake's new target, Lucia. As for Lea, she was getting lucky with her spells, as the one she'd cast at Aries actually found and hit its target. Aries looked as if she'd suffered a lot of damage. But it was to be expected, since she didn't have much experience in official duels. Kim couldn't help but look over at her, just to make sure she was doing alright, although he didn't have enough energy within him to vocally make sure. He tried casting his own spell, Incendio Duo at -who was it?- right, Lea. But this time, his spell didn't even go off and sputtered out before it even left the end of his wand. It was a pretty hard spell, and unless you were completely focused, was hard to get right for anyone. A sigh escaped his lips and his attention drifted off again, despite his intention not to let it do so. It was hard. Maybe he should look into potions. Brew himself up one which removed your memories. If he didn't have these memories plaguing him... Would it be any better? Maybe... it was better than thinking about going into the Great Lake and never coming back out again. Kim's eyes darkened as he fell deeper into the pit of his dark memories. |
