Closed Letter for muggles

The stench hit him like a sledgehammer as he stepped into the owlery. Owl droppings and rotting carcasses at least a week old were strewn across the area, much to his displeasure. Pinching his nose, Joseph waddled over to a parliament of owls perched on the window, accidentally bumping into a nearby owl's stone "house" in the process, leaving the tawny owl hooting angrily, giving Joseph a few deep cuts before shooting out of the open window.

Grimacing, Joseph limped towards the window, his gaze shifting from one owl to another, wondering which would be best for the job. Joseph's fingers ran down the smooth parchment, trying to imagine how his two muggle friends would react to his letter. Would they think him insane? Perhaps think this was some kind of joke of his?

Joseph's heart sank, crushing the letter he had so painstakingly written the previous day. There was no way Jacob and Astrid would believe him. Deep down Joseph knew he couldn't blame them though. Who would believe their best friend was actually a wizard and had to attend a school with a funny name to learn magic?

Biting his lips, Joseph let the tears well up in his eyes. His muggle friends had meant so much to him; they had been the only family he had known.

There was no point explaining to them about Hogwarts. Joseph knew them too well to know they would probably assume he had probably gone mad, maybe finally cracked under stress. Sending an owl to deliver mail to them would only confirm their theory that he had become raving bonkers.

Crestfallen, Joseph trudged out of the owlery. Maybe he'd seek refuge in the common room for the rest of the day. "Yes, that'll be good," he muttered bitterly to himself, attempting in vain to keep a straight face.
