A Memorial on the Lake

Leaf slowly walked across the grass to the lake, carefully making sure that the delicate box they carried was gripped firmly in their hands so it wouldn't fall out of their hands and get all muddy. Today was the nineteenth of November, the 6th year since their mother passed away, and so Leaf had decided to mark this by creating a little memorial from the random craft supplies lying around the castle and some of the more personal items their father had sent by owl.
It wasn't much, just a shoe box filled with some printed photos and a load of scrap tissue paper that they had found whilst scavenging, which added colour and vibrancy to the otherwise miserable day. The photos on either side of the box- tucked in the corners- were of Leaf's mother alone: dark hair and watery blue eyes, wearing her favourite purple dress.
The other photo in the middle was of the whole family- Leaf and their parents- taken when they couldn't have been more than three years old.
The lake reflected the sun's last rays perfectly as it set to the west and illuminated the sky with dark reds and oranges. I better be back inside before nightfall. Picking up the pace, they rushed to the lakeside and knelt down beside the water lapping at them. They flinched, positively terrified of the ominous water stretched out in front of them.
You can do this. Their mother's favourite place to be was in among the waves, but Leaf had never enjoyed the water quite as much as she had. They brought the mini memorial out onto the shore and placed it on the surface so it was left to float away into the sunset.

A Memorial on the Lake
Minnie knew that she should be studying or reading, but the lake had called to her. She had had a hard day, where some bullies had called her a nerd for wearing glasses and then made her late for class. All the day had been yelling and panic, and Minnie knew that if she looked at the lake, she would feel better. She had always loved lakes, and she knew that she needed someone to talk to, and that with no friends, the lake was the best way for her to let her feelings out. She let out a whoosh of air as she looked at the glimmering lake.
"This is beautiful." Minnie murmured to herself. I can definitely talk to the lake about my troubles. She thought. The path that led to the lake was so soft beneath her shoes, she so wished she could take her shoes off. Minnie soaked in the smell of the lake, the fish, the reeds. This is why I love the lake Minnie smiled as she thought this. Tonight was going to be a new start and Minnie was planning on it being perfect. Maybe the lake will have some thoughts on how to make friends? Minnie sighed wistfully. She knew perfectly well that the lake could not talk. But how she wished that it could. She walked purposefully to the lake, and she promised herself something. "I am going to make a friend by the end of the month.
