Sapphire ran down the hall to the library, not caring who she bumped into along the way. When she got to her sanctuary, she peeked in to see how many people there were. As per usual, there were only a few Ravenclaws and assorted others frolicing around in the corners. Also as per usual, Sapphire crept to her usual table in the back right by the restricted section. She'd never been in there since it was off limits, but she had heard stories of books that screamed and some of the things you could find in there.
She smirked to herself. Someday, I'll get in there... she thought to herself, but the little voice that followed her everywhere spoke up. How could you possibly know that you will? No matter how hard she tried, that voice always made her doubt.
I will, she determined, get into that section of the library, and no one is going to stop me, even if I don't get permission from the teachers. That probably wasn't the smartest thing to think, as there were so many teachers who could read her mind, but she didn't care. She would prove that voice wrong. All she needed now was a plan.

Jesse wasn't the biggest reader but if it involved magic, she couldn't help but let herself get drawn to books, and the library stinked of magic. The entire school did, actually. It filled her nostrils, filled her brain, and made her only want to think of the wizarding world and nothing else, which was getting to be a problem considering that her family was all muggles. She had decided to go into the library as a sort of visit, just to get an idea since she'd probably be in here everyday when final exams came about.
It wasn't super crowded, Jesse wouldn't want to be in here either if she didn't feel like she absolutely had to. She walked around in her long, black robes with the Hufflepuff crest over her heart. She felt a sense of pride walking around, even though no one probably cared or noticed. She felt like skipping but it wasn't the place or time.
She went down a random way between bookshelves and happened to look upon a book titled Quidditch Through the Ages. She wondered what Quidditch even was, it sounded like a weird board game, although it must have been a little fun if it was in the wizarding world. She slid the book out and was about to flip through the pages, noticing a broom on the cover, when she heard a sound nearby.
She was a bit far away from other students but maybe...she would catch someone doing something they shouldn't.
Jesse tiptoed over to the end of the bookshelves and peeked, laying her eyes on a girl. She happened to be near an area that seemed to be closed off, for students, probably, and that sparked her interest.
Still carrying the book, she went over and said, "Do you know why that area is closed off? Was there an accident or something?"

"Do you know why that area is closed off? Was there an accident or something?" a girl asked. Sapphire froze for a second before looking up and scrutinizing the other person who'd walked into her little aclove. The other person was tall and skinny, with a dusting of freckles, with dark brown hair, blue eyes that were almost the shade of her hair and evidently a Hufflepuff.
She frowned, slightly confused. She didn't think there'd been an accident. "No, I don't think that there was an accident. That area's closed off because it contains all the books that we're not supposed to read unless we have permission, and there aren't many teachers who are gullible enough to just let any student in there. You'd only be allowed in if you had a really good reason, I'd say," she said, wondering if she'd ever have a good enough reason. Probably not. "I heard that some books will scream," she added. She found that fact interesting.
It was a curious topic, and she was surprised that the other girl didn't know anything about it. "I hope you don't mind my asking, but why do you not know anything about the Restricted Section?" Sapphire asked before waiting for an answer.

Mara paused outside the library, rummaging through her bag for her quill. Her frustration mounted as her fingers scraped the sides of her bag, coming up empty. Must’ve left it in the dorm. Mara felt like such a dunce. She was completely out of her element; even the simple task of writing a letter home seemed impossibly difficult at the moment. If only she had been allowed to bring her beloved Surface Pro! But noooo, stupid wizards and their stupid, backwards rules–
A sudden blow to her back brought her to her senses. She scrambled to retain her hold on her bag, which nearly tumbled from her grip as she whirled around to see who had hit her. But the person was already gone. Mara caught sight of a pale face vanishing into the library.
Mara huffed and brushed a lock of unruly red hair behind her ear. I’ll show her! Running into people willy-nilly like that! At least Mara’s dads had taught her manners
She stalked after the figure into the library, but her anger quickly morphed into curiosity… followed by a pang of disgust. Even the library smelled like magic. And there wasn’t a computer to be seen!
But she wouldn’t let herself get distracted – the pale figure, where did she go…?
Mara passed a table of Ravenclaws, then rounded a bookshelf. She paused when she heard soft voices drifting around a corner.
“...’cause it contains all the books that we're not supposed to read unless we have permission, and there aren't many teachers who are gullible enough to just let any student in there. You'd only be allowed in if you had a really good reason, I'd say.”
Special permission? For what? Mara frowned. Was this where they kept the computer lab?
“I heard that some books will scream," the voice continued, getting slightly louder as Mara crept closer.
Mara laughed, and then immediately clapped her hand to her mouth. For a heartstopping moment she thought she had been overheard, but the conversation continued without pause. Mara breathed a sigh of relief and poked her head in between two dusty, leather bound books. Two tall girls appeared in her line of vision: one, a freckled Hufflepuff, was gazing curiously at a pasty-white Slytherin, who was seated at a table.
"I hope you don't mind my asking,” the voice – the Slytherin girl – said, “but why do you not know anything about the Restricted Section?"
The Restricted Section? Mara’s dad, Aidan, had never mentioned areas of the castle being off-limits. Of course, Mara had only found out recently that her dad had attended Hogwarts himself.
Mara opened her mouth to chime in to the conversation, but then realized how silly she must look, perched behind a bookshelf with her face thrust in between two books. Besides, it seemed like the girls were getting to the important information, anyway. No need to get involved in frivolous conversation without just cause. Mara resolved to hold her tongue for now, gazing at the Hufflepuff girl with bated breath.

Sapphire could never be sure if someone was listening in on a conversation -- the books muffled a lot of noises that could be other students eavsdropping. That could be bad... Maybe I should fine better places to plot... she thought.
Well, the Hufflepuff obviously was clueless -- she was probably a mudblood. "No one would let me in, given what I could find in there, and what I could do," Sapphire grumbled under her breath. There were multiple voices outside of the little aclove. When the Hufflepuff looked confused, the white haired girl shrugged dismissively. "I'm not exactly trustworthy, and especially around dangerous bits of knowledge," she said, summing it up in 11 words.
She stood up and walked to a nearby shelf, running her fingers across the books until she found one of the higher grade books, The Standard Bood of Spells, Grade 7. It wasn't really one she was supposed to read, but, she thought, why not? If she could run through the first one in a single train ride, why not try reading through the 7th?
She had the distinct feeling that someone was watching, but she ignored it. That person could watch if they wanted to. She wasn't doing anything suspicious... yet.

She made her way into the library quietly, not drawing much attention to herself, though she could if she wanted. The child's feet were clad in ankle-length leather boots, she wore leggings and a tunic-like over her body. This girl in question usually stuck to the rules, but there were a few times that she broke the rules, such as not being in uniform at this moment in time.
She brushed a lock of caramel-brown hair out of her face; she took another cautious step forward. She'd always had an interest in the Restricted Section of the library, and she had decided that it was best to break two rules at once and get her rebellious streak over with. She had tried to time it, making sure that the librarian wouldn't be watching as she lightly stepped into the closed off area. There she saw a child that was very familiar to her.
"Sapphire," she hissed, letting the gemstone-reminiscent name roll over her tongue. "What the hell are you doing?" Not that it was particularly her problem, even her business, but Koko didn't want a goody-two-shoes spoiling her fun. Koko gritted her teeth, and she angrily tiptoed over to the snowy-haired demon. Well, perhaps not demon. That was too strong a word. But really, Koko couldn't find anything that fit.
Koko saw the other child holding a book, and a thick one at that. She didn't want to seem rude, so on the tips of her toes she reached up and pulled a book from the shelves. It wasn't one that seemed very interesting, but she decided to give this Potions book a try.
Walking back over to Sapphire, who was reading a Seventh Year level book, Koko held out the potions book at arms length. "This might interest you," she said in a hushed voice. A smirk slipped its way along her lips, making her look a little snide. It wasn't that she was stuck up; it was just that she had such high expectations for everyone that they all failed her ideas. Sapphire's messy white crown of hair stuck out in contrast to the dark brown casing of the bookshelves. Koko, wearing mostly neutral colours, blended in with the shelves, so unless Sapphire's obnoxious hair gave them away Koko had no fear of getting caught.
The golden-eyed Slytherin sat down on the floor after dropping the potions book at Sapphire's feet. She reached for a book which seemed to be about Defence Against the Dark Arts, one of her favourite subjects. Koko began leafing through the pages, feeling her interest in the subject sprout and begin to grow like a plant. She inhaled the scent of the old and yellowed pages, welcoming the musty scent of aged books. Koko enjoyed learning about the ways that wizards and witches of the olden days protected themselves from monsters. She, to her surprise, saw an article about the Gargoyle Strike of 1911, something that she'd been learning about in her History of Magic class. After a moment of reading, Koko glanced up to the other pale child to see if she'd taken the book that Koko had handed her.

Sapphire glanced away from the pages of the thick book to look at the book that Koko had said she might feel interesting. It was a sort of advanced potions book, which made a small smirk make it's way onto her face. Potions was one of her favorite -- and best -- subjects. She dog-eared the page, which was sure to vex Pince, and put the 7th year book in her bag before crouching down and picking up the potions book, flicking through to a random page.
The first thing she noticed on the page was the 13th potion from the two pages. Ha, 13th potion. Ironic, she thought sardonically. The spell simply said Death Potion, as if that was all that was needed to understand it's usage. Reading farther, she saw that the book stated that it caused 'death upon contact'.
Well, this could be of some use, she thought. She felt a curious gaze and looked up from the book, at Koko. She was looking to see if Sapphire had taken the 'advice' and checked out the book, which she had. She muttered a small thanks to the caramel haired girl and looked back at her book, reading on. "I could definitely use this..." she thought aloud.
Not knowing about the slip-up, she flicked through the pages, looking for something that could get her into the restricted section, when she came across the polyjuice potion recipe. Now where would I use this? She marked the page and moved on, looking at different potions and poisons.
"This will come in handy," she said deviously. "Thanks, Koko."

She had watched with curious eyes as the girl with orbs of deep ocean blue rattled on about murderous spells... well, she didn't exactly ramble, but Koko knew she was talking about something to do with pain... "Aren't we supposed to be looking for family trees?" Koko whispered. It was best not to be caught here, so she kept her voice low and soft. She didn't want to have to deal with consequences. "The "R's" will be around here, I found the Potter family tree..." Koko let her sentence trail off. She brushed her fingers against the leather spines of the books, seeing every golden letter engraved in them. "I remember my father's name," Koko blurted, "It was Henry. Henry Riddle." She cracked a small smile at the fact that she remembered something.
"You're welcome," Koko said in response to Sapphire's thanks. She smiled at the fact that she had given Sapphire something to use, and then a word caught her eye, the gold colour mirroring that of her own eyes. Riddle, it read.
"Um... Sapphire... I think I found something..." Koko whispered, awestruck that she'd actually found it. I just hope it's not Tom Riddle's family tree... I know I'm not related to him! Koko pulled the book off of the shelf and opened it to someone who, against all odds, had the same shape eyes as her and Sapphire. "Oh, my God," Koko breathed. "It's really true, isn't it?"

Sapphire jumped to her feet and rushed to Koko's side, looking over her shoulder at the book. The person in question did in fact look like the two of them, in a way. "No... way..." Sapphire said, her voice barely even a whisper."It's really true, isn't it?"
Any doubt that the two girls were related vanished immediately. The proof was right in front of them, in the book.
"So..." she started. "This is interesting..." she said, unsure what else would be right to say. She sat down on a pile of books and pulled her knees up to her chest, her eyes darting around wildly and nervously. "It's fine... It's not like you just discovered a secret of your past that no one ever mentioned, if they knew, or even could mention." She tried to keep her cool, but it was hard. If there were any more people, they'd probably think she was mental or something.
"What do you suppose we do now? We have proof that we're related, and we both know what our father's name is. But what about our mother? I have a notebook that she used to write in, I'm pretty sure I saw her name in there. I think it was Esme Lark," she said.
What else was hidden from them...

She couldn't really comprehend, not with news like this. A mother. And a father! Parents who actually might have loved her, had they been given a chance. Koko scowled, wondering why they might have given her up. She wasn't bad at all! In fact, she had been top of her class last year. So why..?
It was too late to worry, at least now it was. Time had passed. She'd grown up some, and she would certainly grow more, but she was ready to try to move on. "Do you know why?" she wondered aloud. Of course Sapphire would hear her, but... What if no one had an answer. Flipping through the book with purpose, she scanned the pages for anything, anything, anything that would help her find out why the hell she didn't have parents anymore. She was biting back tears by now. Koko.... Koko didn't want to be abandoned. If there were a phobia of abandonment, that would be her greatest fear... Koko choked back a sob, closing her golden eyes once she noticed that it said that her father was dead. It... It thankfully didn't say much on her mother, probably because Esme Lark wasn't part of the Riddle family line. Still, Koko wanted information.
She bit back a scream. She wasn't usually emotional, but this... "They're dead," Koko hissed. "I can't believe it." After everything that had happened recently, from news of a divorce to almost getting killed in the Abandoned Toilets, hearing that her biological parents were dead was too much. "Ugh. This sucks." Koko was trying to censor her words, something that her adoptive mother didn't usually do. It was the only reason that a wealthy pureblood such as herself would ever mutter such obscenities.
Koko closed the book and slammed it back into the bookshelf, regretting it only seconds after. She was one who didn't want to hurt books, even though they were inanimate objects. "Sapphire, I'm going to have NO ONE." She really would. Her adoptive parents were getting divorced, she didn't know who she would live with, and now her real parents were dead. She gave Sapphire a hopeful glance. "Maybe we can stick together throughout all of this?"
But Koko would be moving to America if she chose to live with Victor.
Yes, it was true. Victor had landed himself a job as a technician in Los Angeles. He was a Half-Blood who had always been interested in Muggle sciences and such. So once he had gotten his dream job, he had wanted to move. Rosalie had wanted him to stay, but the couple had been arguing so much that the kids were getting the worst of it, and Koko knew for sure that the twin boys would stay with Rosalie. So would she stay with people who brought her down and hid her, or people who lifted her up and let her shine?
That question went unanswered, and the deadline for an answer was soon approaching. The child was becoming worried. Snapped back to the present, Koko felt a shiver run down her spine as she looked into Sapphire's deep blue eyes. "Sorry about that," she said finally.
