Closed A Cruising Start to November PV

"OBSCURO!" Colin shouted with a deft wand movement in Finn's direction. A beautiful and shimmery black and green bandana fluttered from the end of Colin's wand and, as if on swift wings, flew towards Finn's head and gently wrapped itself snugly around his head! Too bad Finn couldn't see the deep green background and shimmery black serpents twined around three ravens in the center, nor appreciate the delicate silver threads that outlined the design. Colin, however, was quite pleased not only with the blindfold, but at how easily the spell came for him!

He still had now fond memories of being blindfolded himself by George during a race the summer before last. He thought he'd have to get that out and wear it during their next race with Hufflepuff!

"Enjoy the view Conner!" Colin called with a smirk and a laugh!

He turned his attention to the rest of the course. Rai had gotten back on her broom! Colin was glad to see that! "WOOOO RAIIIIII!! Fly like the wind lassie!" he shouted out to her. Uly had sacrificed his own part in the race to fling Rai up front, but he was still in it, flinging things at his cousin! Good lad! With Conner blindfolded --- wait!

There were high winds up ahead, and Colin watched at two kids were blown right off their brooms! Conner and Helena went for a tumble, but the other lad, Arghalon, he managed to remain on his broom. Hmm. The race was getting closer than ever!!

Great things always come to an end or at least that was what Helena thought as she was trying her best to win. Hearing the cheers of her friends notably Alysseas was one of the louder voices the young girl was a bit dazed as she laid on the hard damp ground.
A few inches from her was the nimbus 1001 she was borrowing. Helena’s mind swam with many thoughts. She was definitely not used to flying so falling was inevitable she knew that, but at the moment the ground felt a bit comfortable. Closing her eyes for a second Helena let out a small breath, her icy blue eyes were closed as her mind went blank for a bit. After all, the ground was definitely comfortable.
Opening her eyes once more Helena stood up brushing off her outfit picking up the broom Helena mounted back on before pushing off back into the sky.
Helena gritted her teeth as she focused on her main goal and that was to not fall behind after all there was not much the young girl could do besides try and catch up.
A few loose strands of her golden hair whipped behind her as she gained her determination to get back at least try to make it in the lead.

Helena knew for sure that her cousin was still behind but Ulysses was not much of a threat besides throwing projectiles; the only ones that were a major threat were Colin and Raizel. Helena knew that for sure.
Helena figured if she could focus on her enemies and their motions dodging would possibly be simple but at the same time she did not want to get over confident or cocky that would not be the best thing to do and Helena knew that for a fact. She had to focus on one thing and that was the finish line. Winning was all she could think about. If she could help her team win then that would be the best thing ever!
Helena smirked slightly, she knew it would annoy Ulysses if she had won. Squinting her eyes the young girl grew a determined expression on her ivory pale face. She knew what she had to do and that was to focus on her surroundings.

alright, he was finally making a little bit of headway in flying and he felt better about himself even if he was still incredibly behind the rest of the team. At this point, he didn't care if he came in absolute dead last but he'd want his team to win the race if they were potentially capable and able to! He felt pretty strongly about both of his teammates as they moved forward, starting to build an adversary with some of the others, the Gryffindor boys specifically were grinding his gears with their speed and the constant rock throwing.

the loud roar of the waterfall had made the first year a little nervous, gripping onto his borrowed broom even more as he was able to zip around the roaring waters fairly easily curving around it quickly and focusing on his next obstacle that would present itself in front of him.

uly could feel the droplets of waterfall against his face, his robes flowing behind him the silvery and green threads reminding him of what he enjoyed about the freedom of the skies. perhaps all he had to do was continue to practice, deciding perhaps he'd ask some of the other current broom racers on how to be a better flyer.

☙ A Cruising Start to November, 4th of November 2023 ❧

Things couldn't keep going so well forever, that much he had been prepared for. What he hasn't been prepared for was for everything to go south in the blink of an eye. Just when he had turned into the obstacle ahead, Colin's spell hit him square between the shoulderblades, blinding him. Acting on instinct, he tried to course-correct but ended up leaning with the wind, causing him to be blown to the side and down at a dizzying speed. It was a good thing he had remained fairly close to the ground or the impact might have caused him to break something. As it was, the only thing that ended up broken was his pride. Oh how he loathed Colin's grating, self-satisfied voice jeering at him. Clearly the obnoxious Slytherin had realized that he could only gain the upper hand by resorting to violent and base tactics. Perhaps he should have expected it, the opposing team had done everything they could to inflict maximum damage instead of actually racing.

Finnegan blindly scrambled to his feet and tore at the blindfold that had wrapped itself around his head. He cared little for its intricate design, not that he could see any of it presently anyway.

Raizel was everyone's target practice today, including the trees (what did the trees have against her?). Alyssea felt somewhat bad thinking about the duels the girl had been in before. The poor Gryffindor just couldn't escape everyone's spells and rocks, huh? Perhaps the Firebolt wasn't as agile as everyone made it out to be. Or, it just wasn't in the right environment which was plausible.

Ulysses wasn't the one throwing stuff now, but he sure was speeding along. Alyssea watched him cruise on her Comet. Geez, this kids had some supernatural powers because some of them were naturals despite it being their first time.

Colin, on the other hand, was boosting Raizel much like Ulysses did near the start of the race. To be fair, Raizel was in a pretty good spot at the front of the race along with Argahlon. Technically Helena and Finnegan were also at the front but they were also still on the ground. It would take a bit of time to come back up from that.

Of course, the win wouldn't come as easily as they all thought. Raizel couldn't maneuver fast enough and narrowly got caught by the vines. Alyssea winced. Tough luck, that was. Hopefully she wouldn't struggle too much trying to get out.

Alyssea looked back down the course. They were so close to the end and everyone was now closer together. There was going to be a lot of action, no doubt.

This is starting to get painful for Raizel. From bruises to bleeding wounds and as she tries to get back into the race, she found herself being a target of a rock attack, hitting her. "Ow!" She yelped, wasn't expecting to be thrown rocks at before shaking her head to get her focus back. Whatever, gotta keep going.

That finish line in the distance is her goal and she's not going to let anyone get in her way. It's not just about winning, it's about crossing that line and finishing the race before her body gives in to the exhaustion and pain. The Gryffindor knew she wouldn't last that long, she knows her body too well by now to know when it's about to shut down but before that, she needs to keep going. With the help from Colin, she had gained extra speed to cover some distance but what she wasn't expecting was the vines that were in the way and kept her from reaching her goal.

Talk about a feeling of deja vu. Stuck between them much like in that spring ball, bringing back the memories of the time she almost burned herself when she tried escaping the clutches of spring's wrath. If she managed to escape that then surely she could do the same here. With her faltering strength though, she doesn't know if it'll be enough. Still, she is this close to finishing this race and she is not going to let some vines get in her way.

What to do what to do. Helena thought deeply to herself as she blinked for a bit her hands firmly on her broom. She wanted to get back into the sky and start racing trying to catch up to her comrades and fellow competitors but alas the young girl also felt a bit befuddled. Maybe she landed a bit too hard when she fell from the air.
Helena shook her head a bit as her honey dew hair bounced back and forth.
Gazing upwards Helena glared softly at the sky she was not going to up and give up that was not an option nor was it going to be a choice.
Not only that Helena could hear Ulysses voice if she even lost to that boy. Grunting slightly in frustration. Helena hovered for a second, turning her head slightly behind her. She noted that Finnegan also fell off his broom as well, but also figured the other boy was alright. For now they had to rely on Argahlon to manage to beat the one girl that flew ahead of them. What was her name again? Helena shook her head not wanting to really think at the moment before the girl realized she started to rush off on her broom; she had to try and catch up to the two older students that were ahead.
After all Helena refused to admit defeat and she would absolutely dread losing to her dear older cousin so if she could manage to beat him and wipe that smug look off of his face the young girl absolutely would and have no regret about it after all. Ulysses rarely interacted with her and for some reason that troubled the young girl.
But for now she was focused on winning and winning is what she was gonna do no matter what magic or no magic. Helena was not going to be defeated nor was she going to give up not without a fight and the girl was determined to win to help her team that was inevitable for sure.

The icy winds began to pick up, causing Argahlon to wobble and almost lose control of their broom. Lucky enough, the young Gryffindor gripped the broom tightly and tried to keep it steady until the winds calmed down, and that was exactly what he did. There was this feeling deep down in his gut that was telling him to keep pushing through to the very end. The cuts and bruises were apparent, but he had courage and heart. Both in which were keeping him in this race for the long haul. "Phew, almost lost it there." He muttered under their breath, while continuing through the air at a decent speed.

As the winds settled down and Argahlon could see Raizel in the distance, he held onto the broom with one hand, then reached into his pocket to pull out another rock, and quickly chucked it right at their fellow Gryffindor. DOINK! "Heads up!" Arg couldn’t help but to laugh at what he just saw. But the race wasn’t over and Rai was still in the lead. This only meant that the time for games was just about over. The redhead began to grit their teeth and pushed down on the broom in an attempt to catch up the best he could.

With little time left, Arg was prepared to do whatever they could to get in front of Raizel, even if that meant continuing to throw rocks until they were knocked from their broom. There were plenty of tactics that could be used, and Arg had conjured up yet another idea in the back of their mind, hoping that it would work out in their favor.

Colin grabbed Rai's broom, telling her to hold on tight and he began to spin her around. She did well when Uly alley-ooped her, and Colin hoped she wouldn't develop some kind of flying sickness and puke all over him as they whirled around each other. Around and around they went, like mad dancers in the air! Colin smirked. Rai's breakfast wouldn't be worst mess he'd been splattered with during a race!

He let go of her broom at just the right moment and he watched her zoom ahead. Someone on the other team threw something towards Rai and could only wince as it bounced off his team mate. He could only hope she was still conscious as she flew. As Uly caught up to his position he thought: did it much matter if Rai were actually conscious? So long as she crossed the finish line first!

"Hope you like my scarf Finn! Made it just for you!" Colin shouted ahead towards Finnegan Conner. "Poor lad is still off his broom and surely crying like a baby! Come on Uly! Let's do this!!" Colin gave his fellow Snake and team mate a broad grin and a wink as he continued his flight towards the finish line.

ulysses seemed to finally be getting comfortable on this borrowed broom, it felt so much lighter than the broom he was used to at home and even the school brooms didn't feel quite right to him yet. he knew that if he wanted to be taken seriously for broom racing or quidditch, he'd have to save up his own allowance and splurge on something he could call his own. but for the time being, alyssea's comet 180 finally felt like it was cooperating with him as they continued to find their groove together.

another obstacle was presenting itself, a narrow passageway as he attempted to squeeze himself in tightly and felt the sharp walls scratch at him as he zoomed past. lucky for uly, he was quite the clumsy kid growing up and built quite a resolve and resilience to the occasional bruises and scratches. after her pushed through, he spotted the seemingly impossible thorn maze and with nerves of steel, the young snake hyped himself up for some dazzling acrobatics (something he worked at all the time while he was at home).

and in an almost bizarre switch, uly flew as though he was many years older through the tight suffocating vines without a scratch on him and made it out the other side unfazed and with a huge beaming smile of his display of athleticism.

with his speed, the first year had caught himself up with colin and gave him a quick nod. they were all in it together.
