Jam was in a class on the History of Magic. She was supposed to meet her friend, Willow, right after class in the library. However, her professor lost track of time and class ran a little later than she anticipated.

The Ravenclaw girl packed her bag quickly, deciding to forgo organisation in her bag just for today - she decided it’d be better if she was slightly disorganised rather than late. Jam scurried to the door, but got caught in the sea of students buzzing with chatter. One of the things that was most inconvenient in Hogwarts to Jam was the overcrowded corridors after each class. Of course she knew that Hogwarts housed hundreds and hundreds of students, but still, it caused her to sometimes get swept away to a part of the campus she never intended to go.

After what seemed like forever of fighting off waves of students travelling against her, Jam reached the staircase. The library was on the floor below the one she was on, so she raced down the flights of stairs, hoping Willow wasn’t already there.

Jam finally found herself face-to-face with the library’s heavy doors. With a push that required much more effort than Jam found comfortable, the doors gapped open, and the girl peered inside before stepping into the repository of books.

Every time the girl stepped inside, it was like stepping into Heaven itself. The floor was lined with dozens of shelves filled from top to bottom with manuscripts of all genres. However, the girl didn’t have time to take it all in this time. She was here to meet a friend.

Jam wandered and weaved expertly through the shelves, searching for her similarly book-loving friend. She stopped in her tracks at one of the shelves containing fantasy books when she saw vibrant red hair peaking out from the side.

Willow had been sitting in the library for only a few minutes, waiting for her friend Jam to join her, when a colorful volume caught her eye. She wasn't worried about the other girl being slightly late; the History of Magic Professor had a tendency to go slightly over when class was supposed to end. The girl slid the book neatly out of its place on the shelf and flipped it open to the first page, prepared to read until the other girl arrived.

The library was a haven for those who were literarily inclined- it positively thronged with novels in every genre and size, all perfectly placed in its rightful spot. A fantasy lover at heart and avid writer, Willow tended to spend quite a lot of time among books, especially in this section of the library. What the library lacked in panache it made up for in size; the sheer number of volumes was enough to make Willow's head spin. There was certainly a novel for everyone among the many sections and shelves that Hogwarts housed.

She heard the sound of footsteps and looked up to see her friend rounding the bookshelf. Willow gave a small wave to the other Ravenclaw girl. "Hi, Jam," She said pleasantly, and moved over to make room for her friend. "Reading anything good?" she added, as she was always looking for new recommendations from anyone who enjoyed reading as much as she did. Willow marked her page and turned to face her friend.

Jeremy was sitting in his Potions waiting for class to end. He wasn't sure if it would end. Jeremy had already finished his potion, and received an ok mark on it as well. Once the bell had rang, Jeremy packed up his bag, and instead of going to the Slytherin common room, he went to the library to find a book for him to read before going to sleep.

The young Slytherin boy loved books and was very glad that every class needed a book, but he had gotten bored of reading all the magical textbooks, since he didn't understand them at all. The young muggle born boy found all the magical things confusing, even after being explained everything about Hogwarts, he was still confused, but knew that someone would help him not be confused anymore.

Finally arriving at the library, the young boy looked at all the shelves and sections, until he got to the fantasy books. He saw two Ravenclaw girls at the shelf, when he had gotten closer. Jeremy took this opportunity to make some friends, so he walked over to them and said,
"Hello, are there any good fantasy books that you would recommend? I need a good book for night time reading,"

“Hey Willow! Sorry for being late!” Jam returned her blue-eyed friend’s smile, but hers was tinted with an apologetic look. She traced her fingers over the numerous volumes on the shelf in front of them and replied, “I’m glad you asked! I’m already on book 2 of ‘Whispers of the Lunar Library’, I think you’ll like it!”

The girl searched the wooden shelf in front of her. She pulled the book with a midnight blue spine off the shelf with ease by tipping the top of the book towards her slightly and sliding it off the shelf.

The cover of the book was dark blue with shimmery golden accents. There was a silhouette of a tall, enchanting library illuminated by the glow of the moonlight that took center stage of the cover. Jam knew Willow had taken a liking towards fantasy books the best, and was confident this would intrigue her friend as much as it intrigued her.

Just as Jam was handing the book to Willow for her friend to take a closer look, she felt a presence behind her and turned around. There, she came face-to-face with a boy who looked first-year as well. He was dressed in green robes, which led Jam to reach the conclusion that he was in Slytherin.

“Well, I was just showing my friend Willow here this book, but I bet you’ll like it as well!” Jam exclaimed with welcoming eyes. She extended her arm to show the boy the book. “I’m Jam, by the way.”

Willow smiled and took the book that Jam was handing her, which looked very nice. She would have to add it to the stack on her bedside table, which was steadily growing. There were simply so many books she wanted to read!

"I just found this one on the shelf, it's really good," Willow told Jam, and showed her the book she had closed upon her friend's arrival. She hadn't read much of it, but it was already quite interesting. Just then, a Slytherin boy in green and black robes came up to the girls and said, "Hello, are there any good fantasy books that you would recommend? I need a good book for night time reading,"

Willow would have liked to welcome him, but she immediately became shy and ducked her head. To her luck, Jam gave a swift response, and took some of the pressure off of Willow. However, it would have been rude not to say anything, so, hugging her book tightly, the girl quickly added, in a soft voice, "I'm Willow," She tucked a piece of hair behind her ear. It would be good for her to talk to some new people. "Um, what's your name?" she ignored the fluttery nerves in her stomach and waited for him to answer.

Jeremy saw the girl with glasses turn around and spoke to him. He slowly went closer and took a look at the book before the girl with red hair could take it. He looked at the title of the book and scanned the shelves for the book and found it. He pulled it out and held it in his arms. He then heard both girls introduce themselves.

"Ok, so the girl with glasses name is Jam and the girl with red hair is Willow. I gotta remember that," Jeremy thought. He then decided to introduce himself as well, so he said,
"Thanks Jam for the recommendation. It seems like a good book! Also, nice to meet you both. I'm Jeremy,"

An idea then popped into Jeremy's mind. He hadn't found anyone at Hogwarts who was a pureblood or wizard-born yet and he didn't know how to tell the blood status's apart, and he didn't want to seem rued, so he decided to ask the two girls,
"Hey, Jam, Willow, d'you two think you can help me understand Hogwarts more. Y'see, I'm a muggle born and this is all a shock for me. Honestly, I thought this was all a dream, but it's reality. But, of course, you don't have to help me, if you two don't want to. It's up to you,"

Jam pursed her lips slightly as she listened to the boy ask for their help. Although Jam lived her life as a muggle, she had always known one day she would be swept away from her small-town life to study in Hogwarts. Her parents never left out the fact that she was a half-blood, and she understood how shocking it would be for a muggle-born to transition from their non-magical life to a magical one. The girl was by no doubt kind and helpful, but she was a little conflicted seeing that both her and Willow were half-bloods; they might not be the best people to ask for guidance.

The girl sighed. She put on a smile and nodded her head, “I’d love to help!” Jam figured that the questions Jeremy would ask wouldn’t be far too complicated or difficult to answer. If there came a point where he did ask such questions, however, Jam would simply redirect him to someone who had the knowledge to answer them. It was simple enough, really, and Jam wasn’t about to pass up the opportunity to meet someone new from another house. Most of her friends were Ravenclaws, like her, and she wanted to expand her social circle a bit.

The brunette turned to look at Willow, who was shying away from the new schoolmate. Jam knew her red-haired friend wasn’t the most comfortable with meeting new people, so she pulled her friend slightly further from Jeremy, making sure he was out of earshot as to not embarrass her friend. “Hey, you good? You don’t need to help if you don’t want to,” Jam said softly with an understanding smile.

Willow saw glad that Jam was kind enough to ask, it was a mark of a true friend that she had noticed how the girl was feeling. But even though she was nervous, Willow didn't want to not participate; she was trying her best to shake off her shyness and branch out a bit. She smiled at the other girl and said,

"Thank you," She paused. "But I'd like to try and help," She kept her book close to her chest for comfort and turned back to face Jeremy. Taking a deep breath, she began. "I know a bit about the magical world, m- my father is a wizard and we attended Hogwarts," She took it as a victory that she had only tripped over her words slightly. She looked over at Jam, then back at the Slytherin boy and continued. "Um, is there anything you want to know in particular?"

The book was cutting into her stomach from her holding it so close, but she didn't care. She hoped that she would be able to answer all of his questions, and she felt a twinge of pride at having spoken to Jeremy. Now, she just had to wait for his response.

When he heard both Jam and Willow say that they'll help, he smiled happily at them. He knew that Willow was shy, and didn't want to make her any more shy, and hopped that she'll become more confident while talking to him. When Willow asked him if he had anything in particular that he wanted to know, he thought for a bit before saying,
"Yes, I was wondering if the sports are different then the ones we muggles have. Like if its all magical, or kind of like some muggle sports. I heard some people talking about dueling broom racing and quidditch, and those all made me confused,"

Jeremy wasn't sure if what he had asked something hard for the two girls to answer, but Jeremy had been wondering what types of sports wizards play and if they were different then the ones he was used to, since he'll be spending his seven years at a school full of magic, the young boy better learn everything he can before he becomes a second year so he won't be as confused as he currently is, and hopefully the young Slytherin will have friends who could help him if he were to be confused again in the future.

Jam’s face lit up when Jeremy asked her and Willow about the sports in the magical realm. This was a topic that she was particularly fond of, mainly because it was one of the things that caught her interest from the very first time she stoped in Hogwarts. Yes, her parents had always told her about the magical things about Hogwarts, but what they failed to tell her more about was the sports played by witches and wizards in this world.

The girl often spent her free time parking herself beneath a tree somewhere close to the Quidditch training pitches, watching the practice games unfold. Frankly, she had never really thought about signing up, but she knew most of the rules in theory.

“Ah! Basically, duelling is a sort of contest between two students. It’s a little like fencing, but instead of poking each other with a stick, we cast spells to weaken our opponent! Quidditch is a really big deal in Hogwarts. Each house has a Quidditch team with one seeker, two beaters, one keeper, and three chasers. There are way too many rules and fundamentals that go into this game to explain right now, but I’ll definitely lend you my book on it though, so don’t worry about it! Broom racing is rather straightforward, it’s literally racing on a broom! But if you’re still curious, I can supply you with a book on that too!”

Jam got slightly carried away by her explanation. She tended to talk a lot when she’s interested in a subject, and unfortunately for her, this was a topic she was pretty confident in. She didn’t want to show any embarrassment in front of other people though, so she pressed her lips into a straight line while rocking on her heels. “Well, um, Willow? Anything to add?” She asked, not wanting her friend to feel left out.
