Golden Trio Closed

All was calm for a bit, quiet and calm, that was until she burst into the compartment. Seems like Olivia wasn’t the only person stressing about the trip to school. “Zài jiàn (good bye)!” She said to her family at the window. She waved frantically, hoping that they could see her. When the train began moving she literally fell into her seat….

She fixed her hair and looked around, and then noticed that Olivia was there. The expression on her face was unfortunate. She looked at Olivia with an intense blush on her face, her eyes darted from the window, to the door and every other place that could be considered an escape. Soon she welded to the corner of her seat, her little legs went from dangling under the seat to being perched on her seat.

She looked at Olivia with an apologetic stare, she began to sit normally now, slowly going back to a normal position. She wondered if she should just pretend to not know how to speak English, would that be sufficient? She didn’t know what was ahead of her, she hadn’t really socialized, she had only retained her English knowledge by studying. She noticed that Olivia was also probably feeling the same…

Olivia looked up and smiled as she saw this girl sitting across from her "wow Shes pretty! " She thought to herself. "Uh hi. I'm Olivia what's your name?" Olivia said as she offered her hand out for a handshake. She smiled as she looked at this girl with her curly hair. "Oh, um by the way your hair is really pretty. Is that natural......or?" Olivia said awkwardly trying to make conversation.

She wasn't the most social person, but she did try when she had to. As she tried to make conversation, she anxiously fidgeted with the rings on her finger as well anxiously cracking her knuckles and shaking her foot. She had anxiety and found it was hard for her to control but noticed that fidgeting with the rings and having something in her hand always helped. "I noticed you spoke another language, are you um bilingual or do you not speak English?" Olivia said.

She felt like she was rambling a bit while thoughts ran through her head "god she probably thinks I'm annoying! should I shut up? no I'm just being friendly! unless she doesn't think its friendly. ugh she probably wishes I'd shut up right now!! god! " Olivia thought all to herself.

Esme realized that she and Olivia were probably feeling about the same in the situation, she felt like she should probably just attempt to have a conversation, maybe it could make them both feel a lot better about this situation. "It's natural, my mother is really good at styling too..." She shook her head as if trying to deflect the compliment. "Your hair is also really pretty, you know?"

She watches Olivia fidget with her rings and crack her knuckles, wondering when the next sentence would be uttered, she could do this, talk to someone on the train, it's not too complicated, yet it was odd to speak to someone in English, she didn't do that very much. On the subject of speaking a different language, Esme nodded. "I am bilingual, Chinese and English, though I don't know if my English is so good." She was secretly proud of that fact, but usually kept her pride hidden as to not seem cocky and vain. "Can you speak any other languages?"

She watched Olivia progressively get more and more nervous and soon she decided to be a bit more comforting. "I am guessing we are both first years? Maybe we can share this experience, you and I, we'll tackle the situation." She takes Olivia's handshake, it was a soft grip, not much force behind her arm beyond the simple up and down motion of their hands.

Olivia gave a small smile "you're so pretty and so cool!" Olivia said giving a smile as she brushed her hair back behind her ear. "we've got this! how hard could this situation be? I'm most excited for potions class or maybe defense against the dark arts!" Olivia sounded excited a little bit. She seemed to be getting a bit more comfortable with the situation.

"Sorry, i'm rambling a bit. I tend to do that when i get excited." Olivia said as she sat on the seat with her legs crossed. She grabbed a chocolate frog and held it to you. "care for one? I can't have the chocolate but I LOVE to collect the cards." Olivia said as she offered the candy. "I can't have much sugar due to my diabetes so your welcome to help yourself" Olivia tried to be friendly seeming to be warming up to the conversation and becoming less anxious. Olivia glanced out the window at the sights of the mountains rivers and valleys thinking how gorgeous it truly was. She thought about all the things she couldn't wait to do at hogwarts. I really hope i've made a friend here! she's so cool and so nice!" Olivia thought to herself

Esme shook her head, “surely I’m not too cool… I dunno.” She shrugged, still deflecting the praise like holding up an umbrella to the beaming, burning sun. “I’m guessing you really like being magical, how’d you react when you found out?”

She took the frog and gave a little smile. “Thank you, I ended up skipping breakfast.” She ate the chocolate frog with a face like a child unwrapping a birthday gift. And very soon the frog was gone, with a very happy Esme left over. “Thank you again…” soon she realized she didn’t know the girl’s name, and most likely didn’t introduce herself. “Esme is my name, if I didn’t already tell you, she feels on her face for chocolate smear, just in case.

“You’re too kind to me, and we’re barely on first name terms, it’s interesting.” She looked to be half paying attention and half thinking, she was comparing her experiences in China and with her family and her current experience. Soon she felt a little tickle on her nose and let out a loud, aggressive sneeze and then wiped her nose with her sleeve, luckily for her it was a dry sneeze, but she was still embarrassed by her sneeze, which sounded hilarious to most people.

"Huh? oh well, I don't know it's just how I was raised. Kill em with kindness." Olivia said politely. She was a very upbeat bright and happy type of person like a bubbly ray of sunshine. She couldn't help it seeing as she was raised to treat others how she wanted to be treated. "First time I found out I was had accidentally turned a vase of water into boiling water. I got scared and hid in a broom closet for about 3 hours? I had no clue what I did or even that it was magic. I was terrified. what about you?" Olivia asked as she tossed a Bertie botts every flavor bean into her mouth "ugh, bad idea!" Olivia said having eaten a bad flavored one trying to be a bit lighthearted. "Esme? wow that's a beautiful name." Olivia said as she wondered how soon they'd arrive at Hogwarts. Olivia sat playing with a small fidget as she talked and listened to Esme speak. Despite her excited ramblings she tended to be a very good listener and was very good at remembering things. She found it to be one of her best qualities even if she wasnt always perfect at it.

Esme nodded she was taught to be more respectful but straightforward some times, kindness wasn't put on emphasis, but that didn't mean Esme couldn't be kind at all, she was being kind to Olivia right now, right? She wondered if she was meeting expectations in Olivia's eyes, if she was being as kind as she could.

"A boiling pot of water, that's scary-" She just took a second to think about that, to imagine doing that, if her parents weren't also pureblooded, she'd have been in major trouble, she shuddered. "My first instance? It's pretty boring, a fly tried to bite me when I was 8, I was super scared so when I closed my eyes tightly, it froze in place and fell off, that's when I ran away from it and hid." She shook her head. She saw Olivia's expression after eating a bad bean. "Aw no, what was it?" She was referring to the flavor, feeling sorry for her.

"My mother and father debated on whether to give me a traditional name like theirs, or a European name that would help me fit in easily, we know which one won. Mother was not too happy but learned to embrace it when she realized it fit."

"Tell me more about you, you seem very interesting...is that weird?"

Olivia gave a small soft smile as she listened to Esme speak. "Luckily it was mild and I didn't get burned but definitely very dramatic. Definitely enough to scary any kid" Olivia said adjusting her position in her seat a bit to get more comfortable. "A fly huh? I've never heard of a fly that bites. Sorry that was not making fun in any way if it sounded like that!" Olivia immediately corrected herself before eating another bertie botts beans. "That last one was coffee I think. Blegh! Couldn't be any worse than those Weasley's Wizard Wheezes products. Man i can't imagine what it must've been like being friends with the owners of the shop! They must've been the most fun people to hang around!" Olivia said.

"Rumor has it the owner of the shop doesn't even do any of those jokes anymore. People say his brother was killed! So heartbreaking! Of course it's all a rumor, i mean who knows what actually happened right?" Olivia said stopping to catch her breath after talking a bit fast. "me though? oh well i grew up in london, i'm a half-blood, I was diagnosed with depression and anxiety when I was 8, pretty young i know, and.....oh i'm diabetic!" Olivia said telling a few facts about herself. "and no don't worry, i don't find that weird, You can tell a lot from a person based on first impressions"

Esme nodded, she knew not a lot of people knew about animals like her, both magical and normal, so she was willing to tell Olivia about them, briefly so she didn't end up rambling on and on about bugs that probably didn't interest her newest friend. "Well, it was a horsefly, not many people see them, but their bites hurt, and they get pretty big." She makes a little gap of around close to an inch with her fingers. "For obvious reasons, I panicked, and here we are." She watched Olivia eat the coffee one and Esme shook her head. "I've never had coffee, but according to every adult I know, it's the best stuff ever." She decided to finally lean into her seat, completely relaxed.

"Really? That's so sad... I wonder who took up the business if they left." She noticed Olivia was talking faster than her body could allow and chuckled but also tried to calm her down around the time she was trying to catch her breath. Esme listened to everything Olivia had to say, and every moment was interesting, she wondered how someone could go through so much and still be okay to this day, but maybe she wondered because she was pretty average as far as magical kids go. "What's diabetic? I meant to ask you that before..." She said with a look of genuine confusion, it was probably something she knew in Chinese, but she didn't know it in English, and this would be a nice learning opportunity.
