Katie was reading for pleasure, in a corner of the library people rarely came into. she really wanted to know what Katniss Everdeen was going to do to get herself out of this one. the heroine was in the arena, and it was getting to the climax. she was hooked on every word. because while katie was a nervous and shy little girl, she LOVED the idea of adventure. the practicality of going on one was scary, but making new friends and saving the world? it sounded like a BLAST. she loved reading books where the characters went on adventures, even though she knew she wouldnt touch one with a ten-foot pole.
"yesssss." she quietly cheered when Katniss finally got rue out of the net, not knowing what was about to come next. she loved rue, she was her favorite girl. small and shy, but still clever enough to make it far. Maybe it was because Katie identified with the district 11 girl, she didnt know. she beamed and fist pumped the air, almost falling over. she almost returned to her book when she met the eyes of a slytherin who she'd caught the attention of, blushing immidiately and quieting. she closed the book, setting it aside and whispering "s-sorry."

Lily loved the library. Since she had yet to meet anyone at this school who spoke Gaelic, she took great comfort in the books here that were written in her tongue. Of course they were not many in number, yet there they were nonetheless, and that was enough for her. At home she'd sneak away to her mother's hidden room and stay there all day, reading those same thirty six books that she had been reading since she was five. But here there were new books, and not much could make her happier than something new to read, especially a story.
Books had always been kinder to her than people in real life. It never called you names, it never said anything naughty, and it never beat you. It wouldn't force you to do something too difficult if you didn't feel like reading it, and it never judged you. But at the same time it just wasn't the same. It wouldn't laugh with you when you were happy, comfort you when you were sad, or talk to you if you were lonely. It wasn't there to help if you didn't have the energy to climb up to the dorm, or to sit down with you when nobody wanted to eat with you.
Yes, books were a great way to escape, but the sorts that she liked were called fiction for a reason. Because at the end of the day, when all was said and done, you always had to go back to the real world. You couldn't read forever, or you would starve. And after a time, the story would come to an end. That was why Lily had just put a book back on the shelf. Her eyes had drifted over towards another girl who was reading, and she tilted her head a little, "sorry fo' wha'?" She reddened slightly as the words still came out wrong, and looked down.

Katie had been focused on the slytherin, when a girl behind her spoke. she whipped her head around, full of nerves. how much had that disturbed people? she looked over, her face bright red with nerves, as she looked at the other redhead.
"uh.... oh.... uh... n-n-nothin..." she found herself again having issues with speaking. Katie had been born with a stutter. after years of practicing she'd gotten it under control but sometimes (when she was very nervous, or sad, or excited) she wasnt focused enough to stop it from coming out.
new people always turned on her nerves. making them mad at her even more so. "I-i-i-i'm s-sorry." she said, eventually. there was a small amount of solice in the fact that the other girl looked around her age and was wearing blue ravenclaw robes. she didnt talk normally eighter. but it was overshadowed by the fact that she'd probably just ruined any possibility of friendship because of her investment in the book.
her ears, neck, and face were red as she returned to her book. please dont be mad please dont be mad PLEASE dont be mad. she didnt want to get on anybody's bad side at hogwarts.
