Closed Inner Turmoil

Oh no, oh no, oh no, oh no... Maddox heaved a stressed breath. His eyes widened, as he slumped inside a seat in a lonely compartment, holding his bags close. He could feel his heart hammer inside his chest, and he hugged his body close.

He couldn't risk disappointing his family. Not now, not ever. Anxiety gnawed at his senses. Maddox glanced out the window, staring back at the brick wall of the train station -- waiting for the ride to pick up. Maddox was too scared. What if he failed? What if he wasn't a Slytherin at Hogwarts? What if... what if...

Maddox shook his head, and closed his eyes, attempting to ease his breathing. If he wasn't sorted into Slytherin, his father wouldn't be too angry. His brothers might be a tad upset. His mum wouldn't care. She'd prefer for him to be sorted into Ravenclaw, actually. Or anything but Slytherin. Okay, now he felt better. Way better, than before.

Stress didn't take over his mind after he thought back a bit rationally. His mum and dad wouldn't be horribly angry and disappointed in him if he brought down their familiy name just to be a house other than Slytherin, would they? His brothers would only tease him for a bit. Maddox's family loved him, so it didn't matter -- did it?

A girl stepped into the compartment of the train, her eyes darting around the area before noticing Maddox sitting there. She hesitated for a moment, as if she was deciding on whether or not she should ask to join him. Finally she turned, and walked away.

A couple minutes later, she was back. She still looked very hesitant on whether or not she wanted to ask Maddox if she could sit with him.

‘What if…he doesn’t like me…thinks I’m weird? He does look nervous…maybe he’s just feeling scared for his first day…like me. Or will he not want to sit with me, because I’m a girl.’ She thought to herself.

She seemed to make up her mind though, stepping in a little bit more. In her hand was an instrument case, a medium sized one with a shiny black exterior. She set the instrument case down, shaking her hand for a moment. She watched Maddox for a couple more moment, pondering her choices, before speaking.

“Um hello. I was wondering if I could join you.” She said.

She hesitated, as if she was going to say more but decided against it. She began to twist her honey blond hair around her finger, looking lightly nervous on what Maddox’s answer would be.
