Solos can be good especially when you're first starting to hash out your character a little more. Mine's mostly family drama - Simon's recently discovered his father's identity and gained a 'family' he didn't previously know anything about.

Doesn't hurt to go ahead and get started on it. The only time constraint you have for it is if you want to do moderated events (you'll have to be in the index for that) or if you're wanting to apply for a special race - that needs to be done within 30 days of joining the site.
