“it’s a fairy who, when your baby teeth fall out, brings money or trinkets and puts it under your pillow in exchange for taking out the tooth under your pillow and brining it back to her fairy castle.” She smiled a little. “most muggle kids believe in her for until all their teeth fall out, and then they get told the parents do it.” She shrugged. She remembered getting a bracelet and a small vial of glitter (fairy dust) as a kid, and freaking out with excitement. She’d been PUMPED.

“okay.” She agreed, smiling at Luna. Yeah, she’d never really been exposed to her own mortality a lot. She was the baby in her family. She’d been the kid who’d had her eyes covered by older hands when couples kissed in movies, her ears covered when an older sibling swore. “there are kids around” had always been used referring to her. She wasn’t used to talking openly about mature things like death or promises that ended in it, her family had tried to keep little katie an innocent one. “I get it. It’s important to us, but if you break it it wouldn’t… kill you.” The joke was a little morbid, but katie was trying to lighten the mood.

"You mean... you guys give your... teeth to a person, or fairy, that you don't even know their face?" Luna sighed, "Not to mention, I wonder what do they use those teeth for? I mean, of course, you can use them to make the Polyjuice Potion, but I'm pretty sure that the human can't do that so... Why do they need them?" As for a person from a Pure-Blood family like Luna, she had been taught not to give her body part - even hair or tiny things like that - to the others, even friends or family. So when she heard about the story about the fairy, she was quite... shocked when the children could easily give their teeth to the fairy, or humans.

Seeing Katie didn't want to talk about death, Luna decided to change the topic, "Do you know what Quidditch means? It is a popular sport here, we use brooms to fly and play it. Have you seen the Quidditch Pitch in Hogwarts? It is actually bigger than I thought..." Luna loved reading as much as she loved playing sports. She used to play a lot in their garden with her father, the person who taught her to play it.

"well... it's more of a way to get rid of them. you arent using them anymore, and it'd be kinda sad to jus' throw em out. every kid thinks the tooth fairy does something different with the teeth, but we're all told she needs them. Stuff like... Oh, she uses them to build her castle made out of baby teeth, or she grinds them up into fairy dust so she can fly." Katie shrugged. "It's just a cute thing parents do for kids. plus, you get a little present every time your tooth falls out. which i think is genius because if it wasn't for that i would've been TERRIFIED to have my teeth fall out. and i think that's the real idea. a kid's tooth gets loose, but it's not scary when you tell them it's going to fall out, because there's the tooth fairy who'll bring a present for them."

she shrugged, when the Q- (or was it K-) word came up. she didnt have the slightest clue how one would go about pronouncing a word as mad as that one. "Is it a sport of some kind?" she based on context. "Like football, or basketball?" she was guessing.

"Let me guess, I'm sure that there were some of the Muggle kids try to eat a lot of candies to make their teeth fall down, right?" Luna chuckled a bit when she thought of that. "F-Fairy dust makes from teeth... Muggle kids are sure... good at imagination. And a castle made out of baby teeth... I'm sure that she would need a lot of "fairy dust" to finish it and add a lot of other teeth the next day. Luckily it wasn't true, or Luna would feel really sorry for her, or him.

"Football? ...Basketball?" Okay, she sure needed to know more about the Muggle's world. The little Slytherin just knew sports in her world, so that was the first time she heard about football and basketball. "I don't really know what they are, but I'm sure that both of them have something with ball and football... You use foot to play?" Luna looked at Katie and guessed. It was easy to guess those... "Right, I think we have a book about Quidditch here, do you want to look for it with me? It will be easier to explain with pictures, you know... She stood up and looked at the little Ravenclaw.

“Try tying a sting to your tooth and the other end to a door so when it slams your tooth gets ripped out.” She corrected. It was common shenanigans like this in the Willows household that made tying floss to your teeth banned. An odd rule, but necessary nonetheless. “Muggles are crazy.” This was in response to both the first part AND the second. “Keep in mind. They say that to kids. Kids will believe anything. And there’s no rules to how Faries work. It’s magic. Go with it.” She smiled, bumping Luna’s shoulder with her own like an over friendly cat.

“I’d love it if you’d show me.” She responded amiably, grinning and saying “where’s the book? Wait... you guys don’t play football? Everyone plays football.” Katie had grown up in a little secluded house raised homeschooled with nine siblings as her only friends. Even SHE knew football. But she was muggle born. And as she was quickly learning, the muggle world was very different than the wizard it world. Maybe they could do a sports trade share. It could be heaps of fun for them both. “How does one even go about pronouncing... quid-itch?” She asked, eventually. Time to learn.

"I... don't think that is a good idea, you know, it must hurt a lot," Luna sighed when she heard Katie's correction. "Well, they are sure crazy, huh?" She smiled a bit, "It is not good to lie about unimportant things, but the kids sure need to have imagination, or their life would be quite boring." She knew everything had pro and cos, and this was one of them. "Well sure." Luna murmured.

"Then let's go," Luna stood up and started walking while she kept talking, "Is football popular in the Muggles world? Believe me, everyone that is wizard knows quidditch, unless they are Muggle-born, of course. Quidditch is really popular here... Oh, here is it." Luna stopped talking and tried to reach a book that was a bit high too her. She coughed a bit to hide her embarrassed after taking the book. "Well, I thought it wasn' t this row at first, but I am glad that I was not wrong." Luna sat down the table that they were sitting badly then. They were lucky, no one took their sits when they were gone.

"Right, I forgot to answer your question. We read like this, Qui-dditch, I think."

"oh, football's very popular in Europe. all the kids are on football teams by the time they're five. it's so popular people play it all around the world, even in america. but they call it soccer there, because americans are weird. they have a whole other sport that they call football. but it's convoluted and confusing and you dont even touch the ball with your feet." she laughed a little, before continuing. "football's really pretty easy. you have a ball and you kick it with your foot so it rolls. the idea is to pass between your teammates so it goes into the goal your team scores points in, while protecting your goal from getting points scored on you. but it's just one ball, so it's easy." she smiled.

as they sat down with the book, katie was far more attentive than talkative. she was ready to learn all about the wizarding sport. it was time to learn, and Katie was excited. "okay. teach me Quidditch." she said, sitting down and making herself comfortable. "wait..." she said, looking at a page filled with balls and a broomstick. "do you do this game in the middle of the air???" that seemed MAD to her.

"Oh... It must be really popular then... Each of us is different, so not everyone plays quidditch, but people know about it even before they go to Hogwarts or a different school." Luna smiled when she heard Katie talked about football. Having a Muggle-born friend was sure nice - Katie told her a lot about Muggles - the world that she had never known much about before going to Hogwarts. "That sounds a bit like Quidditch, but we need more than one ball to play it..."

"Oh right, I forgot to tell you that we had to fly to play it." Luna opened the book and started talking, "Basically, there will be two opposing teams of seven players , three Chasers, two Beaters, a Keeper, and a Seeker. I will explain you about them later. There are three different balls..." Luna pointed in each ball and talked, ": the Quaffle, two Bludgers, and the Golden Snitch. The Chasers and the Keeper respectively score with and defend the goals against the Quaffle. About the two Beaters, they have to bat the Bludgers away from their teammates and towards their opponents and believe me, it hurts a lot so if you play, watch out. Finally, the Seeker locates and catches the Golden Snitch. Catching the Golden Snitch will bring your team 150 points and end the game. If the seeker can't catch it, the game will still continue. I think there is one that ended after... three months."

“Well... not everybody. But, you know. Mostly mostly. Pretty much everyone does it at some point when they’re a kid.” She shrugged, correcting herself sheepishly and ducking her head. Yes, she’d been exaggerating. But the thought was there. It was a popular muggle sport.

Katie listed to all the positions of quidditch, her head spinning with all the strange names. They flew at her so fast, she just looked helplessly onward as they kept coming. Quidditch. Quaffle. Blunder. snitch. Chaser. Well, not chaser. That was a word she’d at least used before, it wasn’t made up. Seeker was the same as chaser. So was beater. At least some of the words were... framiliar. Instead of odd like the rest.

The positions and everything made her very confused, that was true. But... you played this game FLYING. Katie thought the idea of flying was very cool. Definitely something she wanted to try. She could imagine feeling the wind through her hair, and how much fun it could be. So, in that moment, she decided she did want to at least try flying. Maybe not quaffle chaser beater made up word quidditch, but flying sounded okay. Not just okay. It sounded great.

"I am pretty sure that there is more information, but I think..." Luna closed the book and gave it to Katie, "You might want to borrow this book and read alone?" Luna didn't mind about reading it with her, but it would be quite a trouble because they couldn't spend all day staying in the Library and read a book. And she knew that even when the little Ravenclaw accidentally made a loud noise before, she would still be allowed to borrow the books.

"By the way, which class do you like the most? I like potion because..." Luna looked around and realized that she didn't know the reason that made her like it. Maybe it's because the classroom is near the Slytherin common room, or simply because she found it interesting."Well, maybe no reason, I just like it I guess. I know it is a bit weird when you like something without a reason but... Yes, I do not think that I have one..."

"Other than reading, do you have any other hobbies?" If someone said that Luna wasn't interested in her new friend, that person was probably lying. She wanted to know more about her, just like how much she wanted to know about the Muggle world.
