Corinthia sluggishly made her way to a quiet table, yawning mightily as she took a seat. It'd been another long day of classes, and the early mornings were starting to weigh down on her. She'd always been an early bird, popping out of bed at six o'clock sharp every morning. However, rambunctious romps by the Great Lake followed by lengthy and often tedious classes--not to mention the dark November days--left her feeling exhausted and foggy-headed by twilight. My tendency to pig out at every meal doesn't help, either, she thought to herself.

The library was quiet for a Thursday night, with only a handful of students milling about at the study tables and by the bookshelves. She thought she saw two older students kissing quietly by the Restricted Section. Gross, she thought, making a face. Get a room. Either way, they were probably having more fun than she was.

Pushing aside a loose strand of ash-brown hair, Corinthia dove headfirst into her satchel, wrestling out her Potions notes and Magical Drafts and Potions from its depths. She had to write several parchments worth of homework tonight, having put off most of it until the last minute (as usual). Huffing, she grabbed a blank scroll, a quill whose nib was badly bent from years of abuse by overenthusiastic scholars, and a nearly-empty ink pot. She cracked open her textbook, turning to the Cure for Boils Potion.

Muttering under her breath, she began to tackle her Potions homework, swearing occasionally as the nib of the barely-functional quill kept bending under the pressure of her hand. She scrawled out lengthy, illegible paragraphs, hoping desperately that her professors would be able to read her handwriting. Potions was easily going to be her most demanding class this year; better do the hardest homework first. She had to admit, though, it was loads of fun.

As she studied, Corinthia's mind began to wander, imagining what sorts of bonkers potions she could concoct with enough practice. She'd want to start with something simple, maybe dying her hair pink. Wouldn't that give Mam a shock, coming home for the holidays with bubblegum-pink locks? Dragon fire repellent was another recipe she was keen to learn, although she imagined she wouldn't learn that until later in her Hogwarts career. Still, she was bound and determined to meet and befriend a Hungarian Horntail someday, so perhaps some liquid protection would come in handy earlier on...

Corinthia yawned again, her eyelids growing heavier and heavier. She couldn't have been in the library longer than an hour, but it felt like an eternity. Her Potions homework was barely a third of the way done, and she still had three more classes to go. She sunk her head into her hands, groaning. There's no way she was going to be able to finish her assignments without divine (or maybe ghostly?) intervention at this rate.

Resting her head on the desk, her eyes sank shut. I'll just rest my eyes for a few moments, she thought, then I'll get back to work. Within moments, the exhausted first-year was fast asleep, soft snores coming from her nose. Just resting her eyes, indeed!

Quinn happily made her way to the library. She was feeling bright and happy with lot's of energy. The day had been very short and she loved that she had potions that day. She had recived an O on her assignment for potions. Even though it took Quinn a while to get up in the morning she still had a little time before class to grab a bagle and take a walk around the lake. The cool november air thrilled Quinn. Fall was Quinn's favorite time of the year. The dark nights made it easier to go to sleep and the leaves were so pretty. Potions was her most favorite class. As Quinn stepped into a library and walked through the isles she saw two older students kissing. Aww thats so cute She thougth. Quinn's old school had, had an adorable couple that were a lot mushier then that. Maybe I should get started on my H.O.M. homework Quinn thougth. Sitting down at a table Quinn noticed another first year. This one looked a lot more stressed though. Quinn watched as the girl slumped down onto her seat then started to snore. Oh no the girl fell asleep She thougth. Quinn got up and walked over to wake her up.

Corinthia snorted in a most unladylike fashion as she bolted up suddenly. "Who's there!?" She cried out. An annoyed shhh could be heard from several nearby students. "Shoot. Sorry," Corinithia whispered apologetically, then looked around to see who--or what--had woken her up.

Her eyes fell on a pretty student standing nearby who appeared to be about her age. Corinthia wracked her brain, trying to remember if she'd seen this girl before in class or in the Ravenclaw common room. The few times she was in the common room, she usually had her nose buried in a book, and wasn't yet familiar with most of her house's names. The girl looked vaguely familiar, so she was very likely a fellow Ravenclaw.

Yawning mightily, Corinthia turned to the student apologetically. "Sorry, terribly rude of me to fall asleep at a study table like this," she muttered, barely meeting the girl's eye. She turned to her inkpot, hoping she didn't knock it over with the force of her head hitting the table. Thankfully, inkpot and quill were intact.

"Just working on Potions," she added, then, "You can work next to me if you like."

The girl looked friendly enough, as far as Corinthia could tell. At the very least, maybe having a study buddy would keep her from drifting off again. She stuck out her hand awkwardly. "Name's Corinthia, by the way. Everyone just calls me Cory. What's yours?"

"what's yours?" The girl, now identified as Cory, asked.
"I would be happy to help you with potions" Quinn replied with energy dropping her stuff by Cory's.
"I got an O on my assignment" Quinn added.
"oh and my name's Quinn" Quinn plopped down and looked at what her hopefully knew friends work so far. hmm I can work with this Quinn thought looking at the messy scrawl of words and instructions. Quinn looked at the girl trying to think of where she knew her from. maybe she's in ravenclaw? Quinn thought. The girl had ash-brown hair that complementited her blue-gray eyes. Here heart shaped face showed fair complexion and a mole on the left of her nose. Cory still looked a little out of it from falling asleep.
"do you not get enough sleep at night?" Quinn asked trying to be helpful. Quinn had always seemed to have trouble with small talk. Even though she loved making friends it was hard to find something to talk about to a complete stranger. Quinn liked hogwarts because there was at least one thing everone had in common. They were all witches and wizards. Quinn tucked her hair behind her ear and read a sentence. Well maybe we can become study buddy's Quinn thought. Or maybe we can become good friends. Maybe she is in one of my classes Quinn looked at Cory and smiled.

Corinthia grinned, flashing a comically-wide smile that she hoped didn't make her look like the Joker. "Great! Thanks! And, erm, congrats on the O." She was still getting used to the grading system at Hogwarts, but at least it seemed to make sense on a basic level. So far she'd gotten an O in Charms, but was anxious about the rest of her grades. She'd always gotten wonderful grades in the Muggle world, but she grew up surrounded by books and a basic foundation of reading, writing, and the natural sciences as a result. Magic was a different beast entirely, and she wasn't sure she was fully grasping the basis of magical theory yet. Oh well, at least she hadn't blown anything up (yet).

"Nice to meet you, Quinn," she added as the girl stated her name. She scooched her chair aside slightly so that her newfound study partner could have a better look at her homework. Her face turned bright-red as Quinn scanned it, self-conscious of how atrocious her handwriting was. Hopefully her professors could read chicken scratch. She rubbed her eyes sleepily, then glanced down at her hands shyly when she saw Quinn looking at her.

When asked if she got enough sleep at night, Corinthia nodded, newly-fixed hair strands coming loose again from her barrettes. "I actually sleep pretty well, I'm just...how did my Mam put it?" She rested her chin on her palm momentarily, leaving a red mark on it upon pulling away. "I'm wired. I'm pretty hyper during the day, so when I crash, I crash hard. And I'm...erm, what's the word? 'Photo-somethingy,' I'm sensitive to changes in light and stuff. Once it gets dark, I can't barely keep my eyes open."

Watching Quinn carefully read over her homework, Corinthia forced herself to relax a little. The girl seemed nice enough, and she shouldn't let nerves and sleep deprivation get in the way of a possible friendship. She had to report some kind of progress back to Mam, either way, just so she'd stop nagging her about the importance of "being chummy." At the same time, Corinthia wasn't the best with making friends with other girls, as they tended to tease her a lot for her tendency to loudly blurt things out. She'd already scared away some of her quieter fellow Ravenclaws on day one, and hadn't had too much luck recovering her social graces since. Hopefully this one wouldn't be scared away, too.

When Quinn smiled at Corinthia, she returned the smile shyly. "So, what house are you in? I'm in Ravenclaw. What's your favorite class? Oh, and I have ADHD by the way," she finished, just a little too loudly. Another round of withering looks from nearby students. Whoops. Concentrating hard to lower her voice, she added, "Sometimes I just blurt things out, and I bounce around a lot. If I ever get to be too much, just lemme know." A sudden thought occurred to her. "Do you have ADHD too? Or have a sibling who does? My brother Callum has it too."

Good lord, she was getting off-track again! Focus, damn you, Corinthia silently reproved herself, returning to her homework to give Quinn a second to process the flurry of questions.

Cory asked Quinn a flurry of questions and Quinn tried to remember them so she could answer them all. A group of students passing gave Corinthia withering glares. Lowering her voice Cory explained that she had ADHD.
"Oh, um I don't have ADHD but my friend from elementary school did." Quinn remembered that he had a very squeeky voice.
"I'm in Ravenclaw too. Oh and my favorite class is definetly either potions or flying. I love to fly, it's been my dream for a really long time."

Quinn relized that they were getting off task. Well at least she's friendly, I don't mind that she's hyper. Quinn grabbed her quill and crossed off a sentence. Scribbling a note, Quinn pushed the paper over to Corinthia.
"Here, I think that you can start a re-write now." Quinn pulled out her DADA homework and started to neatly write her essay.
"Have you done your defense against the dark arts homework yet? I'm a little stuck on this one part." Quinn said pointing to some intstructions on the paper. Quinn looked around, the library must have some books on gargoyles. Quinn thought. She said a quick,
"I'll be back!" To Corinthia and went off towards the bookshelves to look for a book. Quinn surfed the shelves before pulling one off and returning to Cory, or at least trying. Quinn trippped on her shoelace and fell, dropping her book on fellow students head.
"Sorry!"
