Draven's hands ached. Mind you, not from writing essays, holding his wand, or anything productive. Rather, he'd spent the entire class in a strangely cramped position, hold his hands together under the desk. A very lavishly spread-out spider sat between his fingers, its legs spilling over Draven's palms as he snoozed. If he were a cartoon character, Deimos would have been 'Miimiimmiiimii'ing away at that very moment, Z's floating comically above his head.

Draven's eyes were pinned on his friend's black body. Before him, his desk was devoid of any parchment or writing utensils. A rather unwise thing considering the amount of notes everyone else had been taking that class, but Draven couldn't bring himself to pull the paper from out his bag, let alone write on it.

It was when everyone started packing up that he finally looked up, his neck crying out in pain. He cringed, tapping Deimos with his thumb - a signal to wake up. "Rise and shine," Draven told the spider, licking his dry lips. The spider clicked his fangs at him displeasedly, curling up more comfortably between Draven's fingers.

When had he become so sassy?? Draven set his palms atop the desk gingerly, spreading them apart to let their occupant lie down on the old wooden surface. As he got up, his elbow knocked into the inkwell of the girl sitting beside him.

"Oh Merlin," he sighed, pulling out his wand. "I'm so sorry."

Marietta's head was in the clouds, per usual. All she could really think about was Fen who was in the girls dormitory, still re-cooperating from the spring ball. Class had also the been the usual: pretty boring. She tried to focus in, read, and take notes. But she still couldn't tell you what happened that class period. I just hope I'll have everything in my noggin in time for the exam... She wince at that particular thought. Her grades... hadn't been anything worth sneezing at as of late. She knew that she'd been floundering since, thanks to recent events, shes needed to pick between studying outside or studying with her cat. Despite both being essential to the process.

In fact she was so lost in thought that she nearly cursed when she knocked over her ink.

It wasn't until the boy apologized that Marietta realized it hadn't been her. "Oh, no worries!" She said setting it back up. "Still has ink and I think that's what matters. Oh I rhymed!" she said with a bright smile, her eyes never really meeting his. She'd go pack to packing up her stuff but feel something was off. She looked over at the boy, nothing wrong his desk was just empty... wait. "How did you clean up so fast?" She asked curios if there was a spell for quick and efficient bag packing. This time she would also look him in the eye, it was impolite to actually start a conversation without looking somebody in the eye after all.

"Clean up what?" Draven blinked, before noticing the girl to his left haphazardly stuffing her notebook in her bag and booking it towards the exit. "...oh. Uh-"

His bag had gone unopened for the better part of the day. He'd only tugged at the straps, pulling it shut tighter occasionally. Inside, pretty much his entire life was stored. His change of clothes, the ripped up, dog-eared copy of Despereaux , a faded ballpoint pen with faded lettering proclaiming 'Friends of Amber' atop it. A stress ball that was much more stress than ball by that point.

Pretty much everything that mattered.

His textbooks were in there too. Somewhere.

"I was spaced out the entire time," he admitted, picking up Deimos and setting him atop his shoulder. "All clean-" Picking up his bag, Draven pushed his chair in and dusted himself off. His clothing, although secondhand and old, was clean at least. It smelled dubiously like the bar of lemongrass soap the boy carried around. Faded jeans and a gray hoodie. Not much to look at, but comfortable.

The spider made a face that Draven supposed was meant to be annoyed, and then climbed up into the boy's hair, finding a spot between the new roots and curling up quietly. It tickled.

Marietta was actually also guilty of smelling, though her scent was rosemary. It wasn't her favorite but getting new bottles of essential oil was hard now that her parents were divorced, so she was saving the orange and lemon ones.

"Y-you didn't take notes?" she'd ask startled and a tad worried. Though quickly after saying it she'd clap her hand over her mouth. "Sorry! Didn't mean to sound judgey! Its just... aren't you worried about the exam?" She wanted to ask how somebody could be ready for it without studying, but that would probably come off as rude. So she went for a more sneaky way of asking. "I know I couldn't be ready with out my notes and studying. Do you have a special study techinique? Or just maintain info that well-"

Marietta would pause, tilt her head then inhale through her nose deeply. "Oh my goodness!! is that lemongrass? I love lemons! Most people say citrus is too overpowering for them, but I love it! Plus if you think its to overpowering why not just use less? Or better yet mix it with something else." While she was talking Marietta would take a seat. She would move her bag to the other side. Even after talking she was, not quite vibrating with energy as she once did, but buzzing with it.

"I just cheat off Brown," Draven deadpanned, nodding towards the girl dodging and weaving desks, her arms full of books and a determined expression on her face as she trudged towards the exit. The professor, who was busy collecting assignments nearby, side-eyed him.

"We've both got Baird next right," the boy asked, or rather, had been about to ask. Because he was found face to face with the girl, who- smelled him? Drave cringed. He'd slept in his clothes for the past two days, and as nice as the lemongrass was, he doubted the smell of teenage boy was anything pleasant. Showering was-...as disgusting as the thought was...an issue for the wizard nowadays. And with his hair growing out, it was becoming more and more apparent.

His cheeks burned. Merlin, what was wrong with her. "Y-yeah," he stammered, clutching his bag closer to his body, pressing his arms down against his ribs. He wished to disappear. He wished the earth would swallow him up right then, and never allow him back out. He wished to become one with the floor.

Draven sidestepped the excited girl, biting so hard on the inside of his cheek he tasted blood. "Later, Griffis," he said, inching towards the doorway.

Marietta died inside realizing she'd offended him. How could I sniff him?! What is wrong with me?! You were about to make a new friend and you blew it! Honestly how could you be sooo stupid and now hes literally running away from you ya classless ape. She screamed at herself internally. Placing her palms in her eyes, honestly she hadn't really noticed the teenage boy smell till he freaked out. She had smelled just as bad, or even worse at times. Heck she wasn't exactly smelling like roses herself. She should have been more conscious though.

She'd slowly get up and pulled out a bag of cookies from her satchel. "Hey, I am, sooo sorry. That was very rude of me. If you would be kind enough to give me a second chance I promise I'll be more respectful of your personal space and piece of mind. Maybe we could walk to Baird's together? I-I have cookies I can share." she'd say holding up the bag and giving an awkward smile. Yes, she was not above bribery. Of course Marietta never thought of it like that, she simply believed that the best way to apologize was with food.

Pffft why would he give you a chance after that, honestly Marietta. Marietta would wince at her own harsh internal words, hoping they'd be proven wrong.

"I mean we're going the same way anyway," Draven conceded. "...cookies would be great," He took the chocolate chip pastry he was being offered, holding it gingerly as he broke it, probing it by habit.

It was nice. Crumbly, fresh, and sweet smelling, with a mix of white and dark chocolate and nuts peeking out from the outside. Draven blinked as ginger hair and a familiar, freckled face appeared before his eyes. Juni. Man, it had been a while since he'd thought of her.

"Did you make these?" he asked as they set off down the hallway towards the Astronomy Tower. The kitchen elves allowed students down in the kitchen sometimes. It was a long climb to a longer flight of stairs, and his knees were already protesting at the thought, but a late-night snack was always welcome. Speaking of late night-

Draven frowned at the blinding daylight outside. "It's gonna be another lecture," he groaned, and Deimos chittered unhappily from his spot in the boy's hair. At least Baird, in his ramblings, managed to make them fun. There was a disorganized chaos to his classroom that scratched Draven's brain in the right way. The Astronomy tower was....well. Safe.

Marietta would suppress a grin and give him a hearty smile as they walked. "I used to, but I ran into some older students who strong armed me out of the kitchen, apparently I'm not allowed in there. Which is such a shame because I love cooking!" Despite the, according to her, sad topic, she kept an upbeat air when speaking of it. "So I guess the house elves made them. I just snag cookies from whatever meal is serving cookies, sometimes I'll even grab brownies. All in case I need a snack or somebody needs cheering up. Or I guess if I need to apologize for doing something stupid. heh." She'd give him another nervous smile.

Am I doing okay? Did I say something wrong this time? Marietta couldn't help but nervously think as they walked together. She'd giggle, a sweet melodic sound, then fail at covering it up with a cough and a beat on the chest "Isn't it always a lecture?" She'd ask. This was probably what she had been laughing at. However it would probably be easy for somebody to misconstrued that laugh as something else.

Marietta would be snapped out of her thoughts when she heard clattering coming from the boy's head. "What was that?" she'd immediately ask with excitement. It was obvious it was a creature of some sort and she couldn't help but love those.

"At least at night, I can take a nap," Draven sighed. He'd hidden behind her numerous times, broad shoulders protecting him from the man's watchful gaze. "I'd strongarm you into the kitchen," he joked. "...but-...well look at me." He held out his bony hands, with wrists so painfully thin you could wrap your fingers around them. Draven would have resembled an undead thing if you weren't paying attention. He was thin and sickly, the muscles he'd gained from quidditch so long ago having disappeared. Merlin, he didn't doubt that if she put her mind to it, a light shove from Griffis would send him tumbling backward and probably break something.

Draven swallowed past the knot that had formed in his throat, cautiously putting a bit of space between them.

"His name is Deimos," He said, thankful to be saved by the bell. Well. By the spider. "He's a three year old black webber. Venomous and grumpy." That last bit was a lie, but unless she was into Magical Creatures, it would keep her hands decidedly off his spider, and onto those cookies.

Stretching himself out, Draven held open the door to the stairwell for Griffis, pushing against the rotting wood with the tips of his fingers. "Ladies first-"

Marietta would examine him as requested, her excitement melting into careful observation and a hint of concern. had he not been eating? Was he okay? What if something happened? Marietta would begin thinking of the best way to broach the subject as Mirador talked about his spider.

"Thats awesome! You do extract to venom so hes safe to be around right? Ooo or did you train him so he wouldn't bite, gosh that sounds so cool!" Marietta would say, her careful calculating face quickly changing to a bright, curious one. "Why thank you." She'd say in an overly dramatic voice. She would mock curtsy and then giggle that oddly lovely laugh of hers. Then began the agreigous climb up the stairs. Marietta of course, was in good shape, but even she was rather winded when she reached the top.

Finally figuring out what she hoped was the the best way to do this; Marietta would clear her throat. "Hey Mirador... Have you been eating? I'm terribly sorry, I don't wish to dig or anything a-and you don't have to reply if you don't want to! It's just, I want to make sure your doing alright, school can be... rough. I'd hate for a guy as a great as you to have to struggle silently." Marietta would say, no pity, just concern in her eyes. She Liked Mirador and it would genuinely bring her sadness to know he was ailing in some way.
