It was the second weekend of November and Francis was bored and had nothing to do. He had done all his homework that he had received the week. Francis looked at the time and decided to take a walk. He got up off his bed and left his dorm and common room and walked towards the Great Lake.

When he got closer to the lake, he sat down near the lake and just stared at it. An idea then popped into his head and he took out his drawing book and a quill and began drawing the lake and the trees which were in front of him. He didn't feel like drawing himself in the photo at all, since he wasn't good at drawing people, but he was good at drawing objects and whatever's around him.

Francis was so immersed in his drawing that he wasn't noticing his surroundings. This normally happens whenever Francis is busy doing something, but he never knows what it happens. Since Francis was too immersed in his drawing he didn't notice that a student around his age had walked over to him. He only noticed when he felt a presence near him. He looked up and saw them. He smiled and then said,
"Hello there. I didn't notice you. I was immersed in my drawing. Would you like to see it?"

Leaf was, once again, taking a little walk down into the grounds to appreciate the stunning autumn colours around them and also to maybe begin to read some of that new book that had come by owl from their Dad the other day. A change from last week, the constant rain had subsided and all that remained was a cold, bitter wind sweeping across the hills. Not as many people were around, and the emerald grass was coated in a thick carpet of leaves that had blown from the forest.

They perched on a log on the edge of the light woodland, and rummaged around through their bag for a few seconds until they found the book. As they read, the pages were hard to prevent from completely flopping over in the wind, but Leaf persisted until it got so frustrating- constantly having to find the correct page again- and shut the book.

Where now? Reading was not an option in this weather. The lake? Its apparently meant to look quite nice this time of year. Shrugging, they trekked over to the lake, careful not to be swept away by the wind that would pick up vigorously every once in a while and attempt to knock them over.

Someone was by the lake. Leaf didn't recognise them, but they looked not much older than themself, so they continued over to the lakeside where the person sat with a notebook of some sort (a sketchbook, maybe?) and a quill in one hand. As Leaf got closer, they turned and smiled. "Hello there. I didn't notice you. I was immersed in my drawing. Would you like to see it?"

Leaf was startled by the sudden speech, but didn't show it. "Um...yeah, sure." They wouldn't have expected them to say that of all things; from their experience, people didn't like sharing their own drawings with others. But he showed them what was drawn on the sketchbook and Leaf smiled and sat down. "I really like it."

That wasn't a lie. The drawing was actually really good.

When they said sure, Francis showed them what he had drawn before they had arrived. He smiled at the response from then and says,
"Thanks! I haven't drawn anything since i've gotten here."

Francis then began drawing again since he wasnt done with his picture yet. Once he was finished adding the finishing touches, he closed the book and put it into his bag along with his quill. He then looked out at the lake and began thinking what to say since it went silent again. After awhile of thinking, Francis decided to introduce himself,
"Oh, I'm Francis Clark, a first year Hufflepuff."

He then waited for them to introduce themselves as well. While waiting Francis decided to think of some ways he could start a conversation so it won't just be silent. After a while of thinking, Francis had thought of something to ask. He then asked,
"D'you have any hobbies? Or something you like to do whenever your bored and have nothing else to do?"

Francis didnt mention his hobbies since he wanted to ask the question alone without telling them his answer to his own question immediately after he had asked. Francis hopes that they'll be able to become friends since he doesnt have any friends yet.

He seemed really nice already. Leaf watched as he finished off the already-amazing drawing and put it away in his bag. As they were fidgeting- it was habit- he introduced himself and broke the little silence that had fallen over the brief conversation.Francis Clark. First year Hufflepuff. They'd never really spoken with Hufflepuffs before; no one they knew was in that house.

"I'm Leaf... Leaf Shard. First year Ravenclaw." They touched their blue scarf that they'd wrapped loosely around their neck. It was the only scarf they owned. But as Francis asked another question, Leaf was listening carefully over the wind, but also thinking about how well they'd introduced themself. Probably my best attempt yet. It felt like some kind of achievement, managing to speak to someone new and not completely mess up.

"I like reading. And writing. And sketching stuff is cool too, but I definitely read more often." A full sentence said without fail. I'm doing great today. "What about you?" Leaf already presumed Francis enjoyed drawing, but what else did he like to do?

They waited for him to respond, then asked, "And, well, how did you find out about Hogwarts? I didn't know it existed until this August." Am I being too nosy? They wondered in silence, But if I shut up would he think I'm boring? They wanted to make a good impression, to maybe even be friends with him.
