The Sorting ceremony 2018-2019
Bearrach Fanai is not a girl worried about staying clean. She lives by the ocean for Pete's sake! If she isn't covered in sand, she smells of the sea or at worst, vaguely of fish. However when that old hat was placed on her head... She couldn't suppress her shiver at the smell and feel of it.
Ugh, it smells like mothballs and Uncle Matha's dirty socks!
"Well that's not very nice." An unfamiliar voice spoke to her. Embarrassingly enough, it took Bearrach a second to realize it was the Sorting Hat.
"Well, maybe if you smelled nicer, I wouldn't be tempted to say that! Or think it, rather..." Bearrach trailed off as the Hat began to laugh heartily at her.
"Oh, yes. Bearrach Fanai, I remember your mother when she came to Hogwarts. She didn't like my smell either. Though she had a little more tact when she mentioned it to me. Yes, she made quite the fine Slytherin."
"My Ma?" Bearrach sat up straighter on the stool, "She never told me she was in Slytherin! Oh, you most put me there, I want to learn everything as she did."
"Miss Fanai, it doesn't work that way at Hogwarts. You go to the house that will help you grow the most. And... Yes, I think I know just the right house for you. You seem to do well when you have your family's support. While you cannot have your family with you here, Miss Fanai, I think this house will help curb that homesickness somewhat."
Before Bearrach had a chance to respond, the Sorting Hat exclaimed, with much enthusiasm, "GRYFFINDOR!"
The old hat was plucked off her head and Bearrach finally got a good look at her new house. The red and rowdy table was cheering and clapping for her as her sorting was announced. Bearrach was immediately reminded of the giant Fanai Family dinners. The dark haired girl sighed, but it was in good-nature as she made her way over to the loud bustle that she was all too familiar with.
Even in an entirely different country, it is impossible for me to get some peace and quiet.
Bearrach shook her head as she sat down, though she was smiling slightly, more amused by the circumstances than truly upset. She quickly spotted a steaming bowl of mashed potatoes and began pilling food on her plate. If being in a big family taught her anything, it was this; eat first and ask questions later.

The Sorting ceremony 2018-2019
Eleanor stepped into the Great Hall in the middle of a raucous group of first years, looking over the tables and the students seated at them with a measured expression on her face. She glanced over at the Gryffindor table and imagined her father seated there. In her mind, she saw him laughing uproariously and slapping another boy on the back. The corner of her mouth turned upward at the thought before quickly settling back into passivity.
It'd been a long time since she last saw her father smile like that. A long time since she had seen her father at all, for that matter. He only existed to her in forlorn letters that were full of misplaced hope and empty promises.
Eleanor pushed those thoughts from her mind as they reached the end of the hall. They were unproductive and it had been made clear to her by her grandparents that she was here for a purpose, not to daydream and play around. She snuck another glance at the Ravenclaw table. The Burkharts were a traditionally Ravenclaw line, her father having been the exception to that when he was placed in Gryffindor. She wondered if her grandparents had known that their son's life would take such a dramatically different path than they had intended after such a departure from the familial norm.
"Eleanor Burkhart!"
She snapped to attention at the sound of her name, taking a deep breath as she climbed up the steps and felt the stares of every student in the hall focus their attention on her. As soon as the hat was placed on her head, she heard a strange voice in her mind.
"Hmm...very interesting indeed."
Eleanor tried not to cringe at the sudden intrusion.
"You have felt great loss in your life, yet have not been afforded the closure of true, irretrievable loss. You run from it, crave more from life than what you have been given. Be wary, young one, that no one takes advantage of your ambition. Where better to learn that lesson than in..."
"SLYTHERIN!"
Pulled out of her reverie as she heard the sudden shouts of her new housemates, Eleanor carefully stood and walked over to the Slytherin table. This was certainly...unexpected. She wondered how her grandparents would react to the news, and if this divergence would have the same consequences for her as they did her father before her.

The Sorting ceremony 2018-2019
Cecilia was so exited, he read that they would be sorted to one of four houses in Hogwarts. Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw or Slytherin. He hopes that he wouldn’t be sorted to Slytherin, Cecilia read that a lot of bad witches come from Slytherin, he doesn’t want to jugde the pupils in that house but they just seems… scary…
Right now, Cecilia is standing inside a room which seems to flooded with new students, everyone seem to be nervous, there even soft sob somewhere in the room.
“Deaux-Le , Cecilia!” He joilted as his name was called. Nervously, he grabed his cane and slowly makes his way to the stool in a student’s construction. The whole Hall, for a little moment, sinked down at the sight of him. Suddenly, a really big (and strange smell) hat was put on his head and fell down to his nose
“Strange smell? Better than stinky I guess” A small voice startled him
“WOW!? God! You.. You talk?? ” Cecilia asked
“Yes… yes… A kind soul in this head I assume? And really brave too…” The hat stopped abruptly “Familiar face… selfless nature… those potentials that lie deep inside your soul… So, ‘Cecilia’ does ‘Riva’ or ‘Waya’ feel familiar to you?”
“Uh.. No. Why do you ask??” Cecilia shake his head slightly.
“Nothing special… So, as I said, you’re really brave, you don’t afraid of the darkness around you, unafraid to protect your friends and family, more important, a natural instinct to protect and forgive…”
The Sorting hat shouted as the cheering from the Hufflepuff table exploded, he grabed his cane to goes to the table. Light of hope and happiness twinkled in his clouded eyes…

Mara’s eyes bugged out as she followed her fellow first years into the Great Hall. The self-propelling boats were one thing, but how were all those candles levitating in mid-air? Magnets, perhaps?
No, she had to remind herself. Not magnets – magic.
Her dad had told her to keep an open mind, and she was trying. But Mara’s ingrained rationalism kept kicking in, making her doubt nearly everything that appeared before her eyes. The spells her dad performed around the house every so often paled in comparison to the large-scale wonders Mara had been bombarded with since stepping off the Hogwarts Express.
She was so preoccupied, she nearly missed the Sorting Hat’s song. (A singing hat! Mara had been convinced her dad was playing a joke on her with that one.) And before she knew it, her name was bellowed by the Deputy Headmaster:
“Ashlador, Mara!”
Mara took a deep breath, climbing the dais on shaky legs. The Deputy Headmaster gave her a quick smile before placing the hat on her head. Mara caught a glimpse of the sea of faces dotted out in front of her before the brim of the sorting hat slipped over her eyes, and all she saw was blackness.
“Hmmm,” said a sly voice in her ear. “You have quite a keen mind, I see.”
She blinked in shock. So Dad wasn’t kidding around…
“Ah yes, Aidan Appledor. Fiercely intelligent as well. But your thirst for knowledge is different...more driven…”
Mara couldn’t believe she was listening so intently to a hat. A hat that was reading her mind. She had a million questions.
“You may already possess wit beyond measure,” the hat continued. “But you’d do well to stay true to your ambitions as well. For you to truly thrive, better be... SLYTHERIN!”
Mara swallowed as the hat was removed from her head and she was greeted by a roar from the far table. She couldn’t help but feel a pang of disappointment that she wasn’t placed in Ravenclaw like her father. But as her dads told her when they dropped her off at King’s Cross Station: We love you no matter what. Be proud to be yourself.
With a smile, Mara joined the table of silver and green.

The Sorting ceremony 2018-2019
This was the day Ann had been waiting for all of her life. Years upon years of watching people hop aboard The Hogwarts Express and now it was her turn. She would be lying if she said that she wasn't nervous. This was only the most important day of her life. The day that would determine her future. The day she got sorted.
Her eyes widened and she entered the great hall. She was fascinated by the large room. It seemed to glow and radiated warmth. She had never felt more nervous and relaxed at the same time. She gazed up at the ceiling that seemed to open up and reveal the night sky. Thousands of shining stars creating an image unmatched by anything she had ever witnessed before. She turned to the girl behind her and told her about how she had read that it was enchanted. She may have skimmed through her new textbooks a few times. Or several. She just wanted to be prepared.
As the other first years gathered in the front of the room, she started to think. Why was she nervous? She already knew what house she would be in. Slytherin. It was almost guaranteed. All of her family had been in Slytherin. It was in her blood. Her pure blood. Right? Of course. No doubt. Soon enough she'd be wearing that green tie and snake emblem. She would make her family proud.
"Ann Taylor."
This was it. This was the time. She wiped her sweaty palms off on her robes and made her way up to the front. She felt the eyes of all of her peers on her. She took a seat on the stool and felt the oversized hat being placed on her head.
"Ah, Taylor. Ann Taylor. I remember your mother and your father. Both remarkable Slytherins. I suppose you want to follow in your parents foot steps, hm?"
She nodded frantically. That's all she wanted.
"Oh? But I see something else in you...a kindness and a loyalty...HUFFLEPUFF!"
Her eyes widened and her jaw dropped. She felt her heart sink to her stomach. She wasn't....she couldn't be. No. It wasn't right. The hat was wrong. It had to be. It had to be. . . She made her way to the Hufflepuff table and fought back the tears. She put on a fake smile, she had to make the best of it. The hat made its decision, as wrong as it felt.

The Sorting ceremony 2018-2019
Katherine stood in the midst of all the other first years, her eyes roaming the glorious sight that was the Great Hall. Every inch of the hall contained something that begged for Katherine's attention, and she found it hard not to become overwhelmed. Floating candles, moving paintings, tables extending the length of the room, and a ceiling that wasn't really a ceiling. It was all so new and unusual! When the sorting had begun, Katherine had been forced to peel her eyes away from all of these things to focus on the students now beginning to sit under an old hat. Even though she would never admit it, she jumped with her eyes going wide when it spoke for the first time. And the way it just knew where to sort students was fascinating.
The young girl had done some research when her Hogwarts letter first arrived, so she knew a little bit about the houses. She heard all their names called as students were called up to the hat. Gryffindor, Slytherin, Ravenclaw, and Hufflepuff. Other students had been murmuring which house they wished for, but Katherine had no clue. Hopefully the hat would know just where to put her. So she let the time pass by. Before she knew it, her name was being bellowed across the hall.
Katherine Miriks!
Trying to avoid the eyes that turned to her as she walked, Katherine slowly made her way to the seat that rested beneath the hat. Before, the hat had been intriguing. Now that she sat on the stood with all eyes on her, she realized just how terrifying it was. She swallowed the lump forming in her throat as the hat was rested onto her head.
"Hmmm. Interesting. Equally made for Gryffindor and Ravenclaw. A heart that yearns for adventure but a desire that stems from knowledge and literature. Quite perplexing." Silence blanketed the hall as the hat fell into deep thought. Katherine couldn't tell if seconds, minutes, or hours were passing as she sat beneath the hat, awaiting the decision that would affect her years at Hogwarts. Finally, after what seemed like eternity, it spoke again. "You give me a difficult situation, but I have come to a conclusion." A pause that was both instant and eternal. "Ravenclaw!"
Just like the other students before her, cheers erupted from the table that she had noted as Ravenclaw. A sheepish smile on her face, Katherine scooted off the stool and made her way to the long table. She sat next to the most recently sorted student - Annelise had been her name. Offering the girl a bright smile, Katherine too turned her head back to the sorting to await for more of her future housemates.

The Sorting ceremony 2018-2019
After the long boat ride across the lake, Ivy felt a little seasick. She got off the boat so fast and dry vomited in the bushes, trying to shake the nausea from her head. But that little problem didn't stop her from feeling excited about finally being at the castle. The train ride was awesome, and so was the boat ride, but actually being in front of Hogwarts was brilliant!
She stood incredulous for a moment, staring up at the large structure in awe, before following the other students into the castle. She had to go with the prefects to get a tour, which was a little boring but at least it would help when she had to find her way around. The most interesting parts were the moving stairs and the dungeons, Ivy knew she'd find her way back to those places soon.
Soon they finally went to the Great Hall and listened to one of the professors, or maybe it was the actual Headmaster, Ivy wasn't paying too much attention, talk about the school and what to expect. She felt her excitement grow, they were getting close to the sorting!
Finally it was time. Ivy grinned as she stood in line with the other first-years. All of the Houses sounded great to her, even Slytherin and Hufflepuff. She just wanted to be around people and make friends. Her mum said she would have a great time, and everyone would like her.
When it was her time to go up to the front, Ivy patted the hat, who muttered under his breath. She wondered how old it was for it to always sort each year.
The Sorting Hat looked through her mind, or that's what it felt like. He saw her good memories and all of her intentions. He made a lot of hms and I see's, mentioning Hufflepuff and Gryffindor. Ivy knew she probably wouldn't get into Ravenclaw or Slytherin, she wasn't interested in being the smartest, and she wasn't very cunning. But she was loyal and she tried to be as brave as possible.
Finally, the Sorting Hat yelled, "GRYFFINDOR."
Ivy leapt out of her seat and grinned at the sight of her classmates applause. This was one of the best days of her life, and she'd always remember, hopefully. She found that she forgot things often. Ivy gladly made her way to the Gryffindor table, proud and strong.

Jesse's hands were trembling, he could feel the goosebumps forming on his arms already. His bottom lip quivered and his breath became faster, the boy struggling to keep still. Finally...after all these years he was here. How even? How could karma be so much in his favor...be so kind to grant him such a wish! The level of thanks that he wanted to wish to the 'karma gods' would last a thousand years! No, a million!
Jesse watched as the fellow first years beside him got called up, focusing on them rather than the fact that a bunch of upper classmen were staring at him. Wait-not staring..simply observing. As more time passed, Jessie couldn't help but let a smirk creep onto his flushed face. He knew that his non-magical friends back at home would love to become wizards! Everyone would! Right? Before he could think any more about it, the Sorting Hat called him up, in which he walked up to the chair like a literal robot. He took a seat, clenching his fists a bit and struggling not to pass out. Jesse actually wasn't hoping for any house in particular, he had never been a picky person.
Ah, Mr. Hastings...I can already tell that you're a very kind fellow. Regardless of all the struggle you went through before you are quite resilient...not easily broken down, hmm?
Jesse simply froze, not knowing whether to respond with words or just nod.
You have lots of patience and loyalty too...you have a strong heart even though you may not know it.. Hufflepuff sounds like a good option for you but I must look deeper..
Deeper?? What did he mean by deeper?!
I knew there was a reckless side to you...not afraid to use your fists, hm? And there's something...something missing...Something that you want to fulfill in your life...you have a passion for this thing...but for some reason you cannot achieve it...
Was that true?..
However, I believe that with the right push and the right friends you can get to your goal...but remember...if you want to finish first, you must first finish...And for that reason I sort you in..

Being able to go to Hogwarts was Veronica's life long dream. Even though she already knew so much about the school, she wanted to prove the facts to herself, not only by looking and learning but by experiencing. I'm going to make you proud mother, father. You'll see, I'll be better than my siblings, maybe even better than you, that's a promise. Roni ran up to the rest of the first years just before they entered the great hall.
Once passing through the great hall doors, Veronica's breath was taken away by the wonderful sights and sounds. She stood to the side of the group near the Ravenclaw table, taking the sounds of laughter and joy filled voices of the older students. Her attention was then drawn to the enchanted ceiling. It showed the starry sky with candles floating through the endless cosmos. Her smile brightened as she stopped with the other first years who eagerly awaited for their name to be called.
As the sorting began, Veronica zoned out, only because her name was going to be near the bottom of the list. Her thoughts drifted to what house she was hoping for. Her mother was a proud Slytherin while her father was a courageous Gryffindor. Even though they were from completely opposite houses, the managed to find one another and get along quite well. All of her siblings, however, were sorted into either Hufflepuff or Ravenclaw. She wasn't afraid of disappointing her family, but she wanted the house that would suit her the most.
"Veronica Turner"
Veronica was pulled from her thoughts when she heard her name be called. Taking a deep breath she walked up to the hat bravely, not allowing any of her panicking feelings appear on her face. She wasn't quite ready as she thought she was. Taking a seat her mind instantly flew into a multitude of questions. What if I'm not sorted? What if no one welcomes me into the house I'm sorted in? How will my parents treat me if I'm sorted with my siblings? Oh no! What if I become all alone throughout all of the school years? A loud chuckle erupted inside her mind.
My my, what a quizzical girl you are Miss Turner. This time, I have the pleasure of sorting the last of you.
She was very confused. Last? What does it mean by last?
Child, I see great things in your future, many places you'll go, with new friends you know. The one place that you are best for, is none other than... Gryffindor!
A smile erupted on her face as cheers filled the hall from the Gryffindor table. Removing herself from the stool and the sorting hat, Veronica walked over to the table, receiving smiles, claps, and a few slaps on the back. She knew right away that this was where she belonged. I'm going to love it here!!! For the rest of the night, her smile never left her face.
Once passing through the great hall doors, Veronica's breath was taken away by the wonderful sights and sounds. The Sorting ceremony 2018-2019
All the bustle of the Great Hall was a bit daunting for Chris as he felt his hands began to sweat. He followed the new students awaiting to be sorted and felt his nerves start. Which house would become his new home?
Watching as each student was sorted, each one drawing closer to his own. His mind began to race thinking of the four possibilities. Then he recalled gossip of it being his choice, but some swore the Sorting Hat chose independently. Then the words rang out, "Chris Dragos".
The next moments felt like a blur. Trying to focus, he felt waves of anxiety rushing over. As the hat was gently lowered, it was as if another voice entered his head.
"Ohhh, what an interesting newcomer, we have here. Let's take a look shall we."
His mind began to race of his family and friends, even a brief flash from when his parents had him try a ghost pepper.
"The choice is plain for me to see, even if you don't know it."
Then out shouted the Sorting Hat, "Gryffindor!"
Another loud burst of applause came forth from his house table. Cheers and chants as he made a way to his new home and his new family.
