Only a few days have passed since the start of the term yet Harley was already overwhelmed by the amount of completely foreign concepts being taught in his classes. Transfiguration this, charms that, it was all too much. He never believed a day would come when he'd prefer maths to magic, but to all his shock and horror, it had arrived.

The young Hufflepuff walked through the many aisles of the library, picking up any and all books he thought would help him study. Not for one second did he consider that most of them would be way above his level, or that he'd have to carry them all the way back to his seat...

His tower of books teetered as began to walk back to his desk. It's astonishing, really, that they didn't tumble onto his face the moment he took a step. At the very least, that would have been quite amusing to watch.

As he sat down, Harley gazed at the assortment of books he had collected, unsure of where to even begin. Should he simply choose one to read? Or maybe take notes? Perhaps he could cluelessly stare at a fifth-year charms book and hope that all his problems would miraculously disappear. Well, that last option was certainly not the most efficient learning method, but it seemed to be where he found himself in the end.

Parchment, books, his quill. All carelessly scattered across the table. Frankly, it perfectly encapsulated Harley's fractured focus at that moment as all he could do was wallow in self-pity. No matter how long he tried he just didn't get any of it.

Skipping along her way to the library, Constance was in a very pleasant mood. It was the start of the term, and everything had been going perfectly. Constance could not have asked for a better start to her time at Hogwarts. Even if classes weren't challenging yet, she still made her way to the library to get in some extra studying. Can't be the best if you don't put in the work, a philosophy she constantly reminded herself to follow.

Walking into the library, Constance was met with a room full of students. It seemed there was almost no room for her to sit and study, with almost every desk being taken by a student with their nose in a book, or a student engrossed in their homework. Yet, Constance was determined to get some work done, and she certainly didn't want to trek back to her common room where she was certain she'd get almost no studying completed. So there she goes, with confidence in her step, walking around the library to find somewhere to sit.

While making her way around the library, Constance grabbed a book for the subject she planned to study: history of magic. To say that was her least favorite subject would not be too far from the truth, she just found it quite boring.

Looking over to a spot of desks, Constance spots a massive pile of books on top of one of the desks. Hidden behind said pile seemed to be a student. Taking a closer look, Constance realized it was a Hufflepuff boy. A Hufflepuff boy who seemed to be struggling. A lot. Taking note of the empty desk next to him, Constance makes her way towards the mystery boy. She was quite eager to lend a helping hand, and even more eager to try and make a new friend.

Putting her book down on the desk next to the boy and taking a seat, Constance marvels at all the books he's collected and lets out a small laugh. "What are you studying? Or should I say, is there any subject you're not studying?"

By this point, Harley had been fully engaged in the book in front of him. Though that's not to say he actually understood any of it. No, quite the contrary, rather, he was lost in his endless thoughts about just giving up. Something he almost never did was give up, but it seemed like he'd never get anywhere even if he kept trying. Still oblivious to the fact he was trying to understand a book intended for students four years older than him.

"What?" he yelped as the girl beside him spoke, startling him. Since when has she even been there? For just a moment he gazed at her with a priceless look of confusion before quickly composing himself. Harley hesitated for a moment, having to lift and check the cover of the book to even answer her question. "Uh, charms? I think." That was the best answer he could muster. In truth, he had no idea what he was looking at.

"Sorry." A sheepish smile crept onto his face as he quickly scrambled to try and create some semblance of order on his desk. Though it was not happening, everything still looked messy, even if a tad bit less so. With a defeated sigh, he left everything as is and turned to the girl with an awkward grin.

Constance giggled at the frazzled boy before her, how could he be so nervous about learning charms? Taking a closer look at the book he was studying, Constance realized that the Hufflepuff boy was working out of a fifth year charms book, something that is far more advanced than she's been learning in her first year class. Looking back up at the boy, Constance had a hard time believing that he was actually a fifth year. To her, he looked to be the same age she is. Constance points to the title of the book and speaks up. "Are you sure you're a fifth year? You sure don't look like it."

Turning back to the massive tower of books on the boy's desk, Constance decides to look closer at them. Upon further inspection, the books range from topics that would be discussed in her first year classes, to things she couldn't even imagine learning until her final year at Hogwarts. Putting two and two together, Constance concluded that he is in fact not a fifth year, and perhaps just a very confused first year. Did he not even check the title of the books he picked up?

Looking back to the Hufflepuff boy, Constance gives him a soft smile. He seems quite confused, and she wants to help him out. "Do you...need help?"

Fifth year?! What was she on about? Harley quickly lifted the cover once again to double-check. There it was. How did he miss that? Without missing a beat he stood up to inspect every book he had taken. A self-pitying smile formed on his face as he buried his face in his hands. It took every fibre in his being to hold back a laugh that would certainly get them both kicked out of the library.

"I'm such a plum, " Harley shook his head in disbelief, unable to suppress the wide grin on his lips. He had to admit, it was quite funny. At least it made a little more sense now, why he couldn't understand anything. Though, there was still the case of him not understanding first-year content either.

A heavy sigh escaped the young Hufflepuff, "Yes please," as he sat back down, closing and pushing the not-so-useful book aside. "I'm Harley, by the way. Turning to the Slytherin girl, he smiled awkwardly. "Or you can just call me a numpty," the boy chuckled quietly. Clearly, the books he collected were not gonna be of much use, instead he he reached for his backpack retrieving the book on 'Magical Theory' he purchased back at Diagon Alley.

Constance could barely stifle her laughter, how had he made such a simple mistake? Was it not obvious that the material he was reading was not of his skill level? Constance quickly turns to the bookshelves, her eyes skimming through the rows of books before plucking one out.

Handing the boy a first year charms book, Constance gives him a smile. "Nice to meet you Harley, I'm Constance." Putting away all the excess material he had gathered, Constance lets out a small laugh and turns back to Harley. "Don't use such harsh terms for yourself, I'm sure it was a simple mistake. Now that you have the material that you're supposed to be using, I'm sure everything will be much smoother and come to you easier."

Observing the study material that Harley had before him, Constance noticed that he was indeed mainly focusing on charms at the moment. Constance mentally rolled her eyes, charms most certainly was not one of her favorite subjects. She prefers something more exciting, with defense against the dark arts being her favorite. She'd even take something like care of magical creatures or potions over charms. But charms is better than history of magic, she supposes.

Sitting next to Harley, Constance organizes her own studying materials. "Are you really studying charms, Harley? There must be something more interesting you can do, something more challenging."

Looking up from the Magical Theory book he retrieved from his bag, Harley glanced at Constance. "Don’t worry I only jest. Didn't actually mean it." Though it had to be said, even if he was only being sarcastic, gathering all those useless books wasn't the most intelligent thing he could've done. "Ta," he smiled warmly, thanking her for helping him return the books. Truthfully, he wasn't thrilled to be doing charms. That's not to say he hated it, but he certainly didn't hold any love for it, although that could be said for most of his other classes.

"To be frank, I'd rather be doing anything else right now." That much was true, even if he couldn't afford to not study right now. As if that would stop him from seeing what she had in mind. "Why what're you thinking?" 'Something more challenging' definitely intrigued him, and terrified him. He was struggling as is, did he really need it to get even worse? Probably not but Constance clearly thought otherwise.

The Hufflepuff looked at the girl with a curious smile painted across his face. Whatever she was thinking it would probably be more fun than charms, or so he hoped. Even if it definitely wasn't flying, truly a bummer, it was difficult to beat charms on the 'boredness' scale.

Constance analyzed the books before her, taking note of all the different subject areas they cover. Some of the material was the basics of charms- the extreme basics. She came to the conclusion that maybe Harley needed a little extra help in his classes. Maybe more than just a little help. Taking a seat next to him, Constance begins to flip through the pages of his books, seemingly focused.

"Charms aren't the most exciting subject, is it? Me personally, I'd much rather study defense against the dark arts." Constance sighed and set his books down. "However, it seems like you're struggling with your basics. A lot. Perhaps we get the actual studying out of the way before we move onto the fun stuff."

Setting her bag down, Constance begins to gather notes of her own. The quicker Harley learned what he needed to, the quicker Constance could gush about vampires, werewolves, and banshees to him. She really didn't want to be looking at a charms textbook at this moment, but the Hufflepuff boy in front of her was in desperate need of some academic assistance.

Opening her own notes next to his, Constance gave Harley a smile. She was quite determined to make charms stick to his brain. By the time she's done with him, charms will be like second nature to Harley. "Let's get charms over with, shall we?"

"Tell me Harley, what are you struggling with the most? I want to help."

Well, she wasn't wrong. Charms was definitely not the most exciting subject, but she was also right in that Harley desperately needed to get his basics right before trying any of the flashy stuff. A slight chuckle escaped him in response. "You're not wrong." Baffled, he gawked as Constance began to get her notes out. They were really doing this. It was wholly unexpected for him to get any help, never mind from someone he'd only just met, but it was greatly appreciated all the same. As hard-working as he was, he totally expected to just throw himself at the material until he finally grasped it.

"Everything..." he smiled sheepishly at the Slytherin. It was true, although she probably wanted something more specific. "In class I uhm... Well, I kinda blasted the skeletons instead of repairing them." It was truly a challenge of the ages to keep his laughter back as a self-pitying grin spread across his face. "ACCIDENTALLY—" The emphasis was absolutely necessary. He didn't plan on that at all, but it happened nonetheless. Evidently.

He still wasn't sure what he did wrong though. Was it the wand movement? Maybe he didn't concentrate enough... Whatever the reason, here he was now as a result. Desperately trying to get better at it. Or at least understand it so it doesn't happen again. "Not sure what went wrong so I tried having a look and here we are." And that was that. In truth, he wasn't bad at charms as much as he was simply new to magic in general.

Shuffling through her notes, Constance notices the look on Harley's face. It could almost be equated to a sort of nervousness. Maybe he was unconfident in his own skills? No matter what he was feeling, Constance was determined to help him grow and succeed.

Listening to Harley recount his tale of charms class, Constances eyes go wide. Blasted the skeleton? That was almost unheard of to Constance. Perhaps Harley needed more help than what Constance originally thought. Laughing at the Hufflepuff boy's mishap, Constance shakes her head in mock exasperation. "That is certainly...a problem." Despite Harley's obvious struggle with simple charms. Constance believed that he had potential. Constance considers herself to be quite the persistent girl, but she had a feeling that her perserverance skills were about to be put to the test.

Constance neatly displays her notes from class on Harley's desk. "Whatever you did wrong, we're going to figure it out. And hopefully correct it." Constance doesn't have much experience in teaching her peers, yet she seemed to be in good spirits about this situation. She was confident that Harley would be a charms master by the end of their impromptu study session.

Stepping away from the table, Constance gives Harley a sweet smile. She was ready to do whatever it takes to make sure that her new friend succeeds. "Alright, Harley", she spoke. "Are you ready to get to work?"
