Closed I wish I Were a Dragon on the Loch SOLO

After a hearty breakfast of soft-boiled eggs, thick slabs of bacon, and toast with marmalade, Corinthia figured a little trip to the Great Lake before her classes started was in order. She'd been wanting to visit and explore the loch as soon as she stepped on the first year's boat, having camped beside many lochs in the Highlands growing up. Her mother and brother often took her canoeing and fishing on such excursions, although Corinthia doubted she'd do much fishing out here. The lake was full of dangerous creatures lurking beneath the surface, and as someone unfamiliar with the magic world she wasn't keen to test her luck. Still, it was always fun to dream of what lurked beneath the surface...

"Oof!" She grunted, throwing her heavy book bag down besides an enormous boulder. She leaned her back against its stoney surface, soaking up the warmth of the sun. It was an unusually warm day for a Scottish fall, and her school robes felt hot and heavy on her. She carefully removed her work robe and lay it out beneath her, sitting cross-legged on top of it. She was careful not to let her muddy Mary Janes (secondhand from her cousin) touch the robe's surface. It was already stained on the inside by a large, messy squash of treacle tart in one pocket.

She'd have to find a way to get rid of the stain soon. Perhaps there's a spell for it, or something, she thought. She was angry at herself for ruining her robes on her very first day of class, but nothing she could do about it now.

Pulling out her sketchbook and charcoals, she began to draw the lake and surrounding trees. The sun looked so wonderful on the scattered pine groves of the Hogwarts grounds, and the gloomy, massive pines of the Forbidden Forest in the distance added a mysterious backdrop to her landscape. Letting her mind wander, she added a large dragon flying over the lake, modeling it off of an illustration of a Hungarian Horntail she'd seen in her Fantastic Beasts textbook. Corinthia had heard from asking around that she wouldn't be taking any classes learning about dragons or thunderbirds or bowtruckles or kneazles until her third year at Hogwarts.

What a bummer, she thought, adding a wreath of flames shooting from the horntail's mouth. Oh well, at least she'd had the whole textbook memorized by then. The fierceness of the dragon she drew took her breath away, and she was proud of how formidable and realistic it looked. This would be one hell of a drawing to display in her dorm.

Feeling inspired, she flipped the page and began to write a small poem on the backside of the sketch, letting the wings of her imagination take flight:

I wish I were a dragon on the loch

And all the mortals down below could gawk,

And say, "Look out! A monster up above!"

And I could burn to crisps all that they love.

Rats! Now Corinthia was craving a plate of hot, crunchy crisps--home-made by her mother, of course. Wendy was an abysmal cook with most meals, but she was a force to be reckoned with with the air fryer. Stretching, Corinthia looked at her watch. It was nearly time for classes; she should get going soon. She stood, shook bits of grass and dirt off her robe, then put it back on. As she threw her sketchbook into her bag and made her way back to the castle, Corinthia's mind wandered again to thoughts of dragons and other terrifying creatures flying over the lake. Perhaps she'd have the chance to see one in person some day--or even ride one.
