What does a detention entail?

Punishments are dependent on the prefect/professor giving the punishment. Regardless, all detentions have these things in common:

1. Thread is RPG (200 word posts)
2. You must post twice
3. Offending student cannot make new RP threads until detention is complete. Threads that are created during detention are locked until detention is complete.

Please note that the player is not barred from continuing present threads, joining other RPs, or creating OOC threads.  This is an opportunity to be creative with your character.  Have fun with it!
Dorothy stepped briskly down the steps to the grounds.  In one hand was her wand, pointed over her left shoulder in a careless manner, and in the other was a clipboard.  If she was going to be a successful prefect and run a successful detention, she would most definitely need a clipboard for... something.  On the clipboard were scribbles that would direct Dorothy throughout the detention session.  The clipboard also made her look super official and stuff, which was kinda cool.

The long, straight wand that pointed over her shoulder was aimed at a huge floating cauldron that trailed behind Dorothy like a reject balloon on an invisible string.  In it was five sets of bed sheets drowned in warm soapy water.  A few little black specks wiggled around in the water. Tadpoles.  The cauldron was filled with laundry and tadpoles.

Frowning, Dorothy set the whole thing down in a small clearing by a couple trees.  Earlier that day she had strung a clothesline between the trees and made a pile of clothespins at the base of one.  A bucket filled with water and a toothbrush stood nearby the area, and it would probably serve a later purpose in this sheet-washing endeavor.

This would be the first detention Dorothy ever gave.  It was odd, being the one giving the detention instead of worrying about receiving it.  However, the reason for the detention still made her upset.  Dorothy had been kind of bullied.  This both angered and humiliated her.  She wasn't used to anyone pointing out her large mouth or sharp chin, and being judged for her appearance was a new and irritating thing.  It was hard being a twelve-year-old to begin with.  Her figure had begun changing and she had experienced some unsettling symptoms she wasn't at all ready for.  Funnily enough, being a prefect and all, Dorothy could punish the people who would make fun of her.  She couldn't decide if that was good or bad.

One thing she often thought about was abusing her powers as a prefect.  Dorothy strongly believed in justice, and strived to apply it to her new responsibilities.   She had memorized the rules almost immediately and encouraged students to follow them to a T.  Luna Ludal had broken a rule.  So, she would receive an appropriate detention.

Dorothy spotted a figure moving down towards her set up.  She glanced around at the small area and made sure all was prepared.  The cauldron sat in the middle of the clearing beside a towel and some lumpy frog-spawn soap.  The clothesline hung between the trees, above the water-filled bucket and toothbrush.  Everything was ready.

"Hello Luna.  Today you're being given detention for being rude to a staff member, which breaks rule number eleven of the student code of conduct.  See that?" She pointed at the cauldron. "The cauldron is filled with the sheets of the hospital beds.  I want you to clean them with the soap provided, which you'll find has some special magical properties.  When you are done, you are to pick the tadpoles off the sheets and put them in that bucket, and then hang the sheets up to dry. Understand?"

She kept a stern expression, before speaking once more in a hard tone. "This isn't part of the detention, but you owe me an apology.  What you said was mean."

Little Note: Frog-Spawn-Soap causes tadpoles to be spawned into the water.  The more you use it, the more tadpoles appear.  Enjoy!

Scrubbing Sheets: Detention Detention
Luna woke that morning rising from her bed like a ghost. Early mornings and late nights were her life back home so she often found herself waking at this god forsaken hour far too often for no reason at all, to be particularly bothered by the time. No, what was weighing on her soul as she changed was having an entire detention with that snobby, spear chinned, prefect. Luna wouldnt describe herself as a rebel per say, but the girl gave off a feeling of general "high and mighty"-ness that had rubbed her the wrong way, but she deserved it. At least that's what Luna was telling herself. If she was being honest she knew the stress of having the letter she still needed to write to her father, detailing her failure to get sorted into the Slytheren house, and not only that, but being placed in Hufflepuff on top of that. It was a double blow to his pride Luna wasn't sure he would survive. So maybe she had lashed out at the first person presenting her with the chance, because if she was in detention then she wasn't staring at an empty piece of parchment wondering what to say.

Luna shook off these thoughts with a weak sigh as she drifted across the grounds towards Dorthy, and what appeared to be quite the load of laundry. She felt Dorthys eyes on her as she came ever closer, and she quickly changed her expression from "worried wreck" to what she hoped was a convincing aloof. No sense in letting some one who was in a position to make things worse know something was already bothering you. She just needed to focus on the job at hand for the moment. She could save her pity party, and wandering thoughts in general for after she was away from this menace of a prefect.
"Hello Luna." Dorthy said as Luna reluctantly reached her destination to see what "fun" the blonde prefect had in store.
"Today you're being given detention for being rude to a staff member, which breaks rule number eleven of the student code of conduct."
Dorthy said with a certain smugness, brandishing her clipboard in a very official manner.
"See that?"
She continued pointing at the cauldron Luna had seen on her approach. Luna nodded silently.
"The cauldron is filled with the sheets of the hospital beds. I want you to clean them with the soap provided, which you'll find has some special magical properties. When you are done, you are to pick the tadpoles off the sheets and put them in that bucket, and then hang the sheets up to dry. Understand?" A
gain Luna nodded silently. It was about what she had expected anyway. She turned to get to work when Dorthy spoke again with a hard expression, and tone to match.
"This isn't part of the detention, but you owe me an apology. What you said was mean."
Luna kept her eyes down as her shoulders tensed and she gritted her teeth in frustration. Apologizing was not something Luna did. While she had many of her parents good qualities, such as intelligence, a good work ethic, fierce loyalty ,and a genuine kindness to anyone willing to subject themselves to her abrasiveness long enough to earn her trust, and become her friend. She had also taken on a few bad ones. Like extreme pride and insecurity which were working quite seamlessly together at the moment and were preventing her from admitting she was at fault. Toxic comments were boiling in her stomach as she looked up at Dorthy and was about to unload a razor sharp retort telling her exactly where her need for an apology could be shoved. Then as her mouth opened she stopped herself as her eyes met Dorthy's and she saw her expression. She enjoyed this, and if Luna gave her another reason shed just be out here with her again, and Luna was quite sure Dorthy would quite enjoy that. She was so frustrated it almost brought her to tears. She even felt them well up as a tear almost began to trickle down her face. So she quickly took a small breath and broke Dorthy's gaze looking back down and wiping it quickly. "imsorryiguess.." she said almost through her teeth, so quickly and in such a quiet voice, it sounded like one word.

The girl arrived quite nearly on time, if not a minute or so late.  Punctuality was something Dorothy greatly appreciated, so it was with a small amount of satisfaction that she greeted the student. The girl had sullenly listened to Dorothy’s instructions before turning hesitantly towards the large, sheet-filled, cauldron.  She didn’t look happy, which was expected.  How many people enjoyed sticking their hands in tadpole filled waters?

It was hard to decide who’s role was more difficult.  The girls, or Dorothy’s.  The girl’s job was simple and laid out.  She had to wash the sheets, pick off the tadpoles, and hang them up.  She would be kept busy, get a little wet (and most likely covered in tadpoles), but really, that was the worst she would go through.  Dorothy would simply watch until the job was finished.  It would be boring, to say the least.  After all the work it took to set everything up, she would have to put the materials back too.  It would be tadpole free work though.  So Dorothy’s role was definitely better then Luna’s.

Now, all the girl had to do was apologize and wash the sheets.  Dorothy waited expectantly for the girl’s expression of regret.  A quick, “I’msorryIguess” was all Dorothy would receive, and all she desired.  “I forgive you, Luna Ludal.” Was Dorothy’s brisk response.  She gestured lazily towards the cauldron and leaned back against the tree with her sleeved arms crossed.  The bulky school robes swung lazily in the crisp autumn air, causing a few leaves to float to the ground.  The day was absolutely beautiful.  Perfect for washing sheets with frog soap.

You do not need to wait for me to post to finish the detention.  Since you've only written one post, I'm assuming you were.  One more and your detention will be completed :)

Scrubbing Sheets: Detention Detention
“I forgive you, Luna Ludal.” Luna nodded with a slight tilt of her chin. "I cant tell you what a load that is off my shoulders.." she grumbled wanting to tell Dorthy where she could put her forgiveness, but she had a task to accomplish and at least the blonde prefect hadn't made her look her in the eye and say it slowly. Praise Merlin for small mercies she supposed. Dorthy leaned up against a tree looking stupendously bored but even with the slightly unflattering expression that accompanied such feelings of boredom Luna couldn't help but notice she still was quite pretty set against the Autumn colors of the season even if shed rather have her tongue removed than say it to her face. She then noticed she was staring ,and quickly looked away with a slight burn on her cheeks that faded as she attacked her task with a will. The tadpoles quickly went from the sheets to the cauldron ,and soon she was on her last sheet. Her arms had become quickly covered with the little monsters, but they didn't bother her all that much as she picked off most of them ,and turned to tell Dorthy she was done. However, before she could even turn from the cauldron a particularly malevolent and stiff Autumn breeze caught the last sheet she had just hung up, balling up as it tumbled through the air almost in slow motion before being deposited back into the cauldron with a good splash. Such a thing couldn't happen again in a million years, and its effect was instant. The water wasn't so bad, but the tadpoles in the water were quiet another story as she now found herself covered in the wriggling little devils. She shook, with the cold of the water, and felt a couple wiggling on her cheeks and who knows how many in her hair. she sniffled as she felt tears of frustration begin welling up.

Normally she wouldnt have cared and at worst she wouldve been slightly annoyed at the fact a few were trying to make her hair thier new home, but with what she was dealing with now on top of her other problems. The thought of the glee Dorthy would undoubtedly find at the sight of heer misfortune made blood rush to her porcelain cheeks as she wiped away the tadpoles on her face along with the beginning of her tears with a sniff only to have the tears come back with a vengeance. "deep breaths...hold it in..not in front of Dorthy.." She pleaded with her tear ducts as they promptly disregarded her brains wishes and deployed ruthlessly. she felt her shoulders give a slight shake as she kept her back to the prefect. She sank to her knees as she choked a sob creeping up her throat back down as she picked a tadpole slowly out of her ear and chucked it back into the now half full cauldron. The fact that now there was much less water for the tadpoles to roam left in the cauldron every single one had attached itself to the lone sheet which no resembled a wriggling ball of yuck.

What me worry?
