The Gryffindor Table 2023-2024

Zeia sat there, transfixed, for a few spare moments. She had been sorted. She was here, now, it was real. She was a student in Hogwarts.

Stumbling down the hall, she settle down in the Gryffindor table. She barely noticed when food appeared before her. She mindlessly poked around her plate of meats. The walls felt more solid, the room more large and she felt... amazing.

Zeia had, of course, heard stories of the ancient building. Stories from her parents, whispered every night. But she can't touch words, they are somewhere far away, where she can only but imagine what they mean. No words can describe the stillness in the air, and for a few moments, there was nothing there but her. And it was peaceful.

But she was also tired. She never felt the fatigue until now, too caught up in the excitement and anticipation. And now it was weighing down on her, tempting her with the release of sleep. Maybe later, she thought.

Translucent ghosts floated across the lines of tables, sparing a few words with the occasional student. A ghost came over rather close to her, tipping his barely connected head like a top hat. Startles faded into chuckles as the students clothed in red feasted for the first time of their student lives.

Adella was confused. She had just been sorted into Gryffindor when her whole family were Slytherins. How did this even happen?Me, a Gryffindor? She wondered what her parents would say as she took off the hat and scrambled to the Gryffindor Table.

As she sat at the Gryffindor Table daydreaming, she suddenly became aware that the whole table was filled with wonderful food! She absentmindedly started eating. She looked at the Slytherin Table and saw her brother looking concerned. Immediately, she lowered her head and continued eating.

Hey, what’s your name! A bright voice asked. Adella turned her head and saw a boy with black hair and a cheerful face. A…Adella. Wow! Nice name! I’m David, nice to meet you!

As Adella continued chatting with David, she realised many ghosts were floating around the hall. She saw a ghost pulling its ear and stifled a gasp as the head of the ghost fell off. It was then she realised that the ghost was not fully headless, there was still a bit connected to the neck. That must be Nearly Headless Nick! Let’s go meet him now! David said excitedly to her as he ran off to meet the Gryffindor Ghost.

Lauren was hearing the cheering from the Gryffindor table and she followed the cheers. She arrived with a smile on her face and a few older kids coming up to greet her and welcome her into the house. She has never felt so welcomed in her life she felt the happiest she has ever felt. Her parents would be proud of her continuing the house like they did and there parents before them. She was looking at all the decorations and feast before her she was hungry so she started to eat eat when a boy tapped her shoulder and she turned around and he asked "Can I sit next to you?" "Oh... Uhmm sure" she replied. She made room for him to sit down. Lauren felt pretty great being here and didn't want the night to end. Just then she saw a ghost come out from her dish and it was the house ghost it was Nearly Headless Nick and it nearly gave her a panic attack the boy next to her had to calm her down. "So many surprises here tonight eh!" exclaimed Lauren in a shock. "Right the Bloody Barren scared me earlier" said the boy.

A new year, new students, occasionally new teachers and a fresh new start. Xyle walked into the great hall, with a feeling of nervousness and excitement. The pearly white ghosts floated below the bewitched ceilings and around the candles. Even though this was quite unnatrual and scared many other first years, Xyle kept calm because his brother, Jeff, told him all about the ghosts. Then came the ceremony. It didn't take long for Xyle's turn. Have you ever got that feeling when there's something that when you really really don't want to do something and there's still time or an activity that you're doing and then poof - time flies by. The last thing he saw was people staring at him, then all he could see was the darkness of the hat. He heard a small voice which said "You are quite courageous. But not a bad mind either... Lets see here... Ah-ha! I belive you shall be... GRYFFINDOR!" The last word was shouted out into the hall, with a loud cheer from the Gryffindor table. There were several people left, so after "Lowlon", "Davis", "Merron", two "Gearads" and a few other people and the sorting ceremony had finished. After the school song had finished, everyone darted their attention to chatting and food. They started talking about the special events. "Well," said a fifth grader,"Occasionally there comes the Tri-Wizard tounament, where multiple schools compete in three magical challenges, most of the time life-threatening...my brother competed in it once, y'know... my parents were really proud of him when he won it for Hogwarts..." Xyle didn't listen to much of the gossip, he was stuffing his face with roast chicken and mashed potatoes. After the feast, all the students went up to their respective domotories and had a great night's sleep. Xyle felt that it had been one of his best nights of his life.

Linda came to the Great Hall and went to sit with others at Gryffindor table. The sorting ceremony would soon be starting, meaning some first years arriving to see where they will go next.

Linda wasn't really interested in looking at firsties, so instead she was focusing more on her friends and food. Still welcoming new students though as she didn't need any misunderstandings to happen.

After a while doors opened and it was time for sorting to start. She still sometimes had conflicting feelings about how hers went, but overall was quite satisfied with been Gryffindor. She looked at other three tables to see her friends also getting ready for new comings.

The ceremony started and Linda was just generally welcoming others. It was until a moment she heard familiar name. Scarletta? Could it be...? Is she...? That was the first time during that evening she truly focused on those who newly arrived.

There, she noticed a girl who was looking like her pre-Hogwarts friend. Even sharing the same name, so maybe it was really Scarletta? Linda waited for a moment when hat would announce the house, giving her a better opportunity to look at this girl, who so suddenly attracted Linda's attention.

Gryffindor. The girl is Gryffindor too. Linda wondered if Scarletta already noticed her or would she have to try to catch up with her later, after prefects would take firsties to common rooms. Well, she was going to know it soon.

Scarletta Davis was at Hogwarts at last, and the first years were about to be sorted. She was very nervous, because she had-to-be-in-Gryffindor. If she wasn't, well, she didn't even know herself. Also, she was one of the first as her name started with D, so that just made everything worse. After the 4th person had been sorted, it was her turn. Scarlet took a deep breath as she stepped forward. She picked up the Sorting Hat and sat on the wooden stool where it had been placed. Then she put on the hat and waited. After a few seconds that felt like hours of dread, the hat finally called out: "Gryffindor!"

Gryffindor. Scarlet felt as any other first year who had gotten into the house they desperately wanted to be in, and that their family had been in for century's. She was so relieved! Trying to hide her smile, she thought a quick thank you to the Sorting hat before taking it off and joining the feast. As she stuffed herself with the delicious food Hogwarts had to offer, she met a few new first years like her. Scarlet loved meeting people. It made her feel like she was actually there, that it was all really happening, and that she wasn't the only one.

All too soon the feast was over, and their Gryffindor prefect was leading them up windy stairs, through long corridors, with moving people in paintings, and they even saw the Gryffindor ghost, Nearly Headless Nick(actually known as Sir Nicholas de Mimsy-Porpington). Finally, after being jeered at by peeves, they reached the Gryffindor Common Room.

Scarlet looked around, amazed at the sight. She was trying to take it all in, as she heard a familiar voice close by. Could it be? Scarlet thought. She spun around to see if her ears were deceiving her, or if she had really heard the voice of her old friend, Linda Ramirez.

The Great Hall was bustling, with loud chattering, clattering of tableware, laughter, gossip, all entwined.

The professors seemed to be in a similar festive mood.

I was at the Gryffindor table, trying to get along. I made sure to remind them all that I have a hard time remembering names and enjoyed the luncheon with lots of questions about who's from where and who we wished to be when we grow up. Seemingly not many seemed to find the idea of learning potions as fun as I find it to be, I genuinely was surprised how they feared the subject instead.

Some steaming hot meat was being served now, the aroma has me melting from its richness. I hardly batted an eye and went ahead gulping down huge mouthfuls of food. I believe everyone was doing so. Just as I was nearly finished and wished to have some of the pumpkin juice being served, nearly headless Nick popped up on my plate. I flinched, like flinched bad. I was truly taken aback and Sir Nicholas seemingly enjoyed my reaction heartily.

Well seems like many more such fun, joyous events shall keep me up and wondering of what magical thing am I to see next!

I sat down at the table. Shocked I actually did. I sat there in front of all those people. I looked around for a bit. "Wow!", I said. I sighed in relief. There, food appeared. Wow! This place really is magical! But I was too scared to talk so I just started munching. After a bit I finally waved to someone as I thought, "This might not be as bad as I thought." She started engaging in questions and laughing. This should be a good year!

I started to wonder though. Was this a good decision? This wonder grew bigger into fear and eventually anxiety. What if I'm horrible at magic? What if I fail all my classes? I started to miss my parents. My house was filled with warmth. And my mom's banana bread. This didn't have that feeling. it was more of a magical feeling mixed with eeriness. My stomach growled. No more thinking. I get back to eating my food and then soon after I reach for a brownie. Let me tell you those were some good brownies. Those smelt welcoming. I then soon hoped back into a conversation about where I'm from. Looks like I'm making friends this year!
